Hmm, I think it was something more. The Sheriff wasn't trying to give the guy a ticket, only wanted to know where he was accused of speeding. He was more about letting the guy go and just wanted to get a pissing contest with the local PD. There's a pecking order (not sure about Georga) but it runs like Federal, State, County then City then your HOA (just kidding). If the city doesn't have a pursuit clause with the county, that opens a can of worms on who's bust it is. But the Sheriff is elected by the people. It takes to be voted out of the office or a judge to fire a sheriff. They actually have more authority than the state police.

I'm a retired journalist in this county. The sheriff was a career campus cop before taking office. There were well known issues with his hot temper, territorial tendencies, and other unsavory concerns at the college. The city officer was pursuing a vehicle that exceeded the city's speed limit. The law permits pursuit beyond city limits if the offense occurs in the city's jurisdiction. Neither handled the situation appropriately in my view but if you knew the history, it would make more sense. I investigated many problems concerning this sheriff, including unconstitutionally blocking critics from the agency's social media page, severe deputy misconduct without discipline until after it drew public attention, and withholding open records. He's all around bad news.
Edit: I forgot to add that his department not only arrested someone, but boasted about, a large amount of meth that turned out to be baking soda at the crime lab. Kid you not.
I looked into allegations against the city department on several occasions as well, but there was never any evidence of wrongdoing on their part.

More details would be necessary to foam an opinion. Did you find any information on whether the City officer was authorized by his commander to cross into the County limits? I am sure in there directives before going outside City limits prior approval is needed and other officials must be notified.
Sheriff is right you cannot run across City limit as you wish without notifying the other party. Could they have been been more civil yes….He had every authority to stop and check what was going on in his county noticing a outsider making stop. unless it is a state trooper he may ask if assistance is need. It is more complex than just saying GA law allows that, should be a chase then the county and state would take up the chase and the city falls back.

This happened about 10 miles from where I live. The sheriff has his hands full, trying to overcome decades of shady, good old boy-style, law enforcement practices. He's trying to crack down on the drug trafficking, and I'm not sure Hiawassee PD is being overly helpful, to put it gently. This area has been plagued with some HORRIBLE excuses for police for a long time. There are good folks enforcing the law, too, but, they need to cull the bad apples.

THE sherrif is harrassing a police officer in the middle of a stop the police officer is polite , doesnt curse at the sherrif and is explaining multiple times its on film with traffic cameras and the sherrif is cursing , swearing and trying to say the stop shouldnt of happend if anyones fucking shady its this sherrif guys out of control.
