I also saw them do this live with her playing the harp. This record wasn't out yet so it was the first time I heard this song. They're from Pennsylvania, and I saw them in Baltimore a few times. I think one time they played with Showbread, As Cities Burn, and Chasing Victory, but I went to so many shows back then it's hard to keep it straight.
Wow, as a guitarist (we are always feeling like we lead the show) that bass line is pure magic. Seriously, try this: close your eyes and focus on the bass line on top of everything else and prepare to be amazed
with this band, you can do it with every instrument. i have seen them just about every time theyve come to new england since maybe 2006 07? seen em open, seen em headline. seen em play to a packed house and an almost empty room. big stages, little stages, barricades or packed in close, inches away. it has never been disappointing, except when the set is done. this band ALWAYS delivers, always sounds tight and professional, well rehearsed, but the songs and the sets flow so fluidly and they are so in tune with each other that it is always a unique experience, always something there that can really catch your ear, if even for a moment. the bass lines. shit the base tone. a small crack in aarons voice or a sudden burst of screaming or gregs harmonies. and their ability to know and play their songs so well together that they can add in some theatrics. aaron dancing with his child on stage, the flowers on the mic stands, aarons rotating cast of tambourines, the accordion, acoustic guitar. "I hear there's someone new, an extra pillow on your bed"! My jaw dropped because I know those aren't the lyrics. Those are some heavy words, and I hope he didn't write them out of personal experience because it broke my heart. Did he come up with them on the spot? He has always been an angel in my eyes.
He uses those lyrics a lot in live versions of this song. Same with "Play for a passing prostitutes and an answering guitar". I prefer the extra pillow lyrics as well
That's what the entire song is about, a past relationship. While they've loosened up lately, Back in the day Tooth&Nail was very strict and I'm sure they wouldn't allow those lyrics at the time.
Does he sing different lyrics @ 01:07 ??? I'm pretty sure it goes take the fingers from your flute to weave your colored yarns and boil down your fruit to preserves in mason jars but now the books are overdueand the goats are underfed the trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead! But I distinctly heard some different lyrics.. though there was stuff i couldn't make out.. take the fingers from your flute to weave your colored yarns [couldn't understand] passing prostitutes ... Guitars I hear there's someone new another pillow in your bed the trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead Also sounds like he's closer to crying while singing than his passionate style generally does..
SHYKIE he’s saying he’s just entertaining random women while the women he speaks of has another pillow in her bed. I think implying he is playing the field while she settled?
@@stevenwood6939 yes, the first album was basically him healing from breaking up with the woman he always planned on marrying, he sings about how he comes to have understood it throughout the albums. i see this as him letting go and making room in his heart for his future wife, which he has achieved.
Long before this album came out I was collecting songs digitally. Started because of having iPods. I have over 22k songs, and some of those files are 18 years old or they were when I first got them. They've been copied across many hard drives over the years. Back in the day when an album came out on Vinyl you'd listen to the entire thing as a whole, and the album itself was a piece of work. With Spotify that doesn't happen anymore, and that's why I can't do it.
My best friend sent me video from the last show he'd see of them where he was on stage with them. He's the guy who got me into them all those years ago, and it was a really emotional thing for him to say goodbye to them. We played in hardcore bands, and 'Gentlemen' was the first mwY song we heard on a compilation disc. I couldn't have expected the album that song came on because it wasn't very hardcore, but it was absolutely amazing. The second album is my favorite though.
@@nephilimrephaim3949 its about him giving up hope on the woman he was planning on marrying and coming to terms with it, understanding he has the greatest love already.
For this version.. In a sweater poorly knit and an unsuspecting smile Little Moses drifts downstream in the Nile A fumbling reply, an awkward rigid laugh And I'm carried helpless by my floating basket raft Your flavor in my mind's back and forth between Sweeter than any wine, as bitter as mustard greens And it's light and dark as honeydew and pumpernickel bread The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead Go plow some other field, and try and forget my name We'll see what harvest yields, and, supposing I'd do the same I planted rows of peas, by the first week of July They should have come up to my knees But they were maybe ankle high Take the fingers from your flute to weave your colored yarns While I play for passing prostitutes on an out of tune guitar I hear there's someone new, an extra pillow in your bed The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead You're a door-without-a-key, a field-without-a-fence You made a holy fool of me and I've thanked you ever since And if she comes circling back we'll end where we'd begun Like two pennies on the train track the train crushed into one But if I'm a crown without a king, if I'm a broken open seed If I come without a thing, then I come with all I need No boat out in the blue, no place to rest your head The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead I do not exist, I do not exist, I do not exist I do not exist, I do not exist, I do not exist I do not exist, I do not exist, I do not exist I do not exist, only You exist, I do not exist
if i come without a thing, then i've come with all i need.

One of the greatest and humbling lines in the mwY discography.
Going through a divorce and this shit hits different.
Sorry to hear that bro but just a lesson on the journey. I hope this message finds you well.
