If you don't have attic access, check out my new video on how to install recessed lights: ua-cam.com/video/SSKP97hE1gc/v-deo.html Do you think this is the biggest update you can make to a house for only $100? Or what would you think is the best project for $100?
Just came across this video while researching this brand. Do you recommend them still? And, one question, if you set the color once, does it maintain the color when you switch the lights off and on? I’m not very interested in using the app every time I want to use the lights.
@@mostman Hey Mike, the lights have been great so far - we do typically just leave it on a normal yellowish/white (2700k) color and it stays that way when we turn off and on the lights - any color will stay where you left it. I did have to fix the colors when the power went out but it's not common.
Can I put dimmer switch with these smart recessed lights. It’s for aesthetics only as the dimming will be controlled by Lumary app. Also, should I keep the switch ON at all times and turn off each section of basement via groups and then turn it on via phone (for a group) via App?
This is great! I'm struggling on how you split the wire black to the ceiling fan and red to the recessed lights? Can you please guide me to what wires you connected for the split? I'm assuming all 3 ground together, all 3 white together and than 2 black (for the fan) and 2 red (for the lights).. and than you just capped off the 3rd red and 3rd black separately?
Yea pretty close! -All grounds together -All neutrals together -Determine how your switches are wired (is red wire light or fan). This varies depending on the electrician it seems. -Connect black fan wire to black switch wire (cap off red wire from fan) -Connect black recessed light wire to the red switch wire. The red and black coming from the switch are both hot and have power, you basically just separate one to fan and one to new lights. I'm not an electrician, but this is how I've seen it done and have been doing it. Good luck!
Nice video thanks. Question, if you want a guest to use these lights, can you share them the group and they can use the dimmer without changing any settings? Or they will need to do the whole thing on their phones?
I’m curious on how they are holding up. I’m planning to install 16 around my soffit. For season lighting. Orange/purple Halloween Christmas red/green, yellow white for New Years.

Any ideas or suggestions on where to go for instruction on this? Lumary themselves haven’t been the most helpful or I’m looking in the wrong places. Any thoughts would be very much welcomed. Thanks for your advise. I see your hole saw shown reads 6 5/16", but you say we need a 6 3/8" hole saw. Did you feel you needed 1/16" more clearance? Thanks.
Sorry, thats confusing. I usually go with 6 3/8th but needed a new hole saw and this 6 5/16 was just a little cheaper on Amazon so I grabbed it. Either one will work, but I actually like this 6 5/16 better.
I'm interested in these lights for my home theater project. Can they also be controlled using a smart switch such as the Brilliant Smart Home Control Switch? I have a few of these in my home and it's a deal breaker if I can't use my existing smart switch for these lights.
It's my understanding that they can't be used with any dimmer switches/smart switches. That is my biggest complaint with these as well looking back. It'd be nice to not have to talk to Alexa all the time.
@@KellyConcepts yup... that's my concern. However, I read a review somewhere that since these work with Google Home and Alexa, that if the smart switch such as the Brilliant smart switch has these apps also integrated, then the lights can be controlled. But I haven't found multiple sources to prove that theory.
Great video. By the way, you don’t need to search for studs. Even if you end up drilling a hole on the the stud, you can just put each clip on each side of the stud.
How do I control each individual led light with google or Alexa? I don’t want to say google turn on bedroom light and all of them turn off. If I need just 2 on and the rest off how do I do this ? Please help thanks.
That is a cool dust collector for the hole saw. Your little fellow is so excited. Alexa is confused here, because you did not say which bedroom. Hahaha. Nice job Shaun
So from what I understand you have to keep the light switch on from now on? And if you tell Alexa to turn the lights off the switch cannot be used to turn the lights back on? Or there a special switch you can buy with them??
that is the biggest problem with these - the light switch stays on and everything is controlled through Alexa or Smartphone at that point. They claim to not have a "smart switch" or anything yet compatible with these. However - after a while we use these more as regular lights with the switch and use the color changing on occasion .
Very helpful! Just a question though, I'm planning on installing recessed lights in a room where there isn't very much light and there is a ceiling fan, just like in your video, and the only other light is 2 wall lights (on the actual walls and not in the ceiling). My question is, if I will be supplying power to the new recessed lights in the ceiling from the fan, how will I turn them on and off without turning the fan on at the same time? Also, the fan is controlled with a special remote looking switch on the wall with 3 different speed option buttons and one button for the built in light in the fan. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, if you want I can email you pictures of the current setup so you know what I'm talking about?
Hey! I'm very late to this comment, but in a case like that, you'd have to run a new separate wire to your lights. It's not difficult but would require a couple holes in your wall and ceiling where you'd have to run a new wire. Ceiling fans that have both the fan and lights are the only time when you can split it off like I do in this video.
