Jeff, after months and months of watching different home renovators' videos I have been able to narrow down my choices of renovators that I go to for DIY videos. You, Sir, are by far, a cut above all of the hundreds of other instructional and informational renovators offered on UA-cam. You not only offer complete tutorials that cover every possible home renovation idea but you also give the DIY'er the options of materials that are available on the market, what to look for, and the Do's and Don't's when working on a project. As a 67 yr. old DIY female, whose only income is dependent on Social Security, I can honestly say that you have saved me a few hundred dollars. I am blessed. I only wish I would have discovered you a few years earlier and I could have saved several hundred more. Thank you, Jeff, for all of the brilliant information you share with the public. I couldn't do it without you! God bless you and yours!
I lost my passion for renovations. Your channel has actually inspired me to give it one more try and i fell in love with it again and for that i thank you
That would be me. First thing I did when I bought my house back in like 2012ish, 2013ish? Replaced every light with LED lights. Fricken way expensive, especially back then. But so worth it. Especially for my house. My house still has 100 amp service, and most of the house is wired to just a few 15 amp fuses. Yeah, fuses. I've had to replace like 2 fuses in the 7 or 8 years that I've lived here. I have LED lighting to thank for that.
I love LED lights! I'm building my house right now and I got like 60 6" lights for everywhere. Barely any power consumption, great lighting, pretty easy to install. However I didn't know all these options.
Im convinced you can read my mind Jeff. You ALWAYS COME OUT WITH A VIDEO THAT WE NEED AT THE RIGHT TIME!!!!! You’re sooo underrated. Don’t stop what you’re doing 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I changed all my house lights to LED's back in 2010 . I had several 24 inch Fluorescents in closets. I just changed them all to LEDs using just the new LED tube lights no wiring needed. I also installed Insteon dimmer switches back in 2010 as well so all lights are dimmable and programmable. I can even change where the switch is located without having to run new wiring . So for that switch thats across the room making you walk in darkness to get to it just mount a new switch at the entrance to the room, simple. Love your stuff Jeff . Having just one arm I've had to look for lots of tricks to do home improvements. Wish you'd been available 20 years ago... Cheers...
Just did an install using these exact model of light you first reviewed...in two bathrooms and four bedrooms...they are an absolute dream to install - they take no time at all! When I saw the switch for the color temperature, I nearly fainted with delight! Thanks for another great video!
Do you know of a video showing how these are actually installed, wired, completely - rather than someone just unpackaging and showing the fixture? Would help a lot to see the whole picture/ process...
@@5GNV Assuming that you're in search of content about the types of lights that I used (the first type of lights that he unboxes in this video) - try searching "how to install thin line light" on UA-cam - there are a few videos there that give a good look at the process of installing these. Also, I'm sure that Jeff will give us some good videos here soon using all of the types of lights in this video (he promised he would!).
Jeff I just finished 12 LED lights just like what you show here. I ran the hole saw in reverse and they all came out perfect. Thank you so much. God bless.
Can Jeff ever dance to the latest technology and UA-cam opportunities. Thanks for the good deals too. Plus, Jeff and Max have worked together for years now. What a team!
Lighting designer here; glad to see you having fun with some of the newest LED lights. A few points: In the US, variable color products are being labeled "color tunable" or "color selectable." Under cabinet fixtures flipped around and mounted flat to the header over closet doors make excellent closet lights. Spacing is a tricky subject. The fixture manufacturer publishers a ratio called the spacing to mounting height ratio. You might have to call the manufacturer or get your hands on a photometric test report. It is a simple ratio often called S-M or SMH. You just multiply the ratio by the height of your ceiling. A 1:1 ratio means you'll get even lighting in an 8'-0" ceiling with fixtures spaced no more than 8'-0" apart. 1:2? 10'-0" apart in that 8'-0" ceiling. The amount of light you'll get depends on the light output, the spread of the light, and the colors of the room it's in. Last, the tripod outdoor light was nicknamed the "Space Needle" fixture by one of my clients after the famous tower in Seattle, WA. =)
FYI - GTA Electric rebranded themselves as “Vega Lighting” for those interested. The link to their webpage is correct and on the RenoVision affiliates webpage.
This video just completely changed the game for our upcoming renovations. Thank you for another great video. I can't tell you how glad I am to have found this channel. You've given me the knowledge and confidence to take on what is going to be a huge project and I believe that I can do most of the work myself (thus saving a ton of money). On another note, I have an idea for a new drinking game: Take a shot every time Jeff says "brilliant". 😆 Cheers
Hey Jeff. Been watching for a long time, but have been so busy this past six months. Wish I had more time to watch. I do always recommend your channel to anyone who mentions doing some DIY home renovation stuff. They always talk about how great you are. I hope you and the family are doing well. :D
Jeff, you just seem like such an awesome guy. My bf & i have our own home Improvement co. When he comes over i put your videos on & we love just hanging out & watching your tips. Thx for such great content, you are a pleasure to watch
Thank you for this info. The timing was perfect for me. I ordered 24 pot lights and one with a motion sensor. (The 20% discount kept my final total under $500. Awesome!) I will have to spend at least the same amount to have everything installed but I will have the lighting I have wanted for far too long. Again, I thank you.
Thanks to this video I'm going to replace all the old kitchen lights in my house with these ultra thin adjustable LEDs, will be a nice top off for our kitchen reno
Bought like 20 of these previously!! EASY to install and very happy about the result. The only thing that took me time was to choose 3000k,4000k,5000k temperature.
I will second everything Jeff has said here. In the process of remodeling an older beach house and after watching all of his videos which are great by the way I used the affiliate link on his website to order every light from GTA electric. Saved a ton of money this route and note to mention GTA has a great customer service department, fast shipping and even helped over the phone during the weekend. The lights are great, easy to install, the brightness colors are consistent and the ones installed outdoors just recently survived going through a hurricane. I have these lights hooked to dimmers, 3 way switches and even motion switches. Buy one light and have incandescent in outside eaves, day light in living areas and bright lights in bathrooms and closets and be done!!!
Thanks for the great content! Just installed 12 led pot lights in my kitchen and 10 in my family room. Different light levels for each. The led lights with switches to change color are a game changer. I’m both cases I selected a different final temperature that what I would’ve purchased.
Jeff, you are AWESOME ... i can't stop watching your videos. You are super knowledgeable, you provide excellent information and your delivery is outstanding.
Just to thank you for all you do for us. I love your channel and I ordered 12 pot lights and the 8 foot led bar from GTA Electric and the honoured the 20% discount. Keep up the great work Jeff. You and your crew are fantastic.
Is there anything this guy can’t do. Love the content and he makes you feel comfortable doing home renovations well explained in detail. Your the man jeff my go to guy for home repairs and renovation
Hi Jeff....43 years as an IBEW ELECTRICIAN...(fckn great)...this video is so very helpful to everyone .. You must have been reading my mind...I just completed a lightning job. I used the motion sensor lights you have in your video. I want to meet up with you...and work with you.... Keep the great videos coming!!!
I put something like this in my basement. Having the color change is great since a room can go from a warm rec room to a brighter/cooler color for detailed stuff like an office room. Great video as always!
Certainly line the slim design and that gimbal light with a 87° angle, mind blowing. But what I’m really looking for is hidden lights for indirect lightening. Like light strips to span the entire perimeter of the room. Dimmable of course.
I used your link and wasn't able to find any of those retrofit LED lights that you explained were so easy to do on my own. Vega Lights only had something if you were going to buy brand new fixtures.
I happened to be watching a video at .75 speed… I thought you had gotten super stoned and really really wanted to talk about lighting and lighting temperatures… AMAZING!
These lights seem pretty promising. I clicked the link and noticed, they are down right affordable without the discount. I think I will be grabbing some of these to see how I like them. I could see converting my whole house to this stuff.
Right on time Jeff. I'm slowly finishing my basement and I am going to have a drop ceiling with 2x2 tiles. I was looking for lights, now it looks like I'm going to get the LED 2x2 Back-Lit Panel about 5 of them.
Great video as always, and amazing product selections, so you mentioned that in a couple of weeks you would be doing suspended ceilings, and that would probably mean pot lights etc. here is a suggestion, show us how you would use a push in wire connector with the (very thin) 18 gauge wires already attached to the LED fixture. thank you
Hey Jeff, could you do a video about how to install drop ceiling in a basement? Mine's totally unfinished at the moment and I'm leaning towards a drop ceiling for versatility.
This video has definitely changed my Reno. plans. Thinking or using the drop in panel in my drop ceiling in my basement. Is is a 2 x 2 or a 2 x 4 ? As for the rest of the house, I will be buying according the needs of the room. They’ve come a long way over the years. Easy peesy. Black to black white to white & copper to copper. May have to use a sparky to help with the 3 way switch going to the basement.
I'm so excited about the LED lighting options and even more excited because I live in the same city. Unfortunately, some of the lighting is sold out. Thanks for the enlightenment!
Lots of great information on LED lighting - thanks! With the lighting fixture you said you were installing in your driveway (about 10 min into the video) it was unclear to me how you were assembling the unit. Were you assembling it upside down or right way up? In other words, will the light be directed up or down when installed?
When the LEDs go out you may have to change the whole fixture. I haven't seen replacement LED light bulbs yet. -I have changed out fixtures for this reason.
Motion LED: Great olace is the lined closet. The only problem is getting power to those areas, especially if you live in a condo where the exterior walls are CMU.

I install a lot of these daily, 100 of them the other day to be precise, maybe not retrofit, but it's still recommended to have a vapour barrier. These lights are phenomenal though.
Thanks, ordered up some of the gimbals to try out in my weirdly thin vaulted ceiling. I've been trying to figure out what to put up there, and didn't like any of the flat LED lights. These gimbals look like they will suit my needs perfectly!
Love the videos as always. Great content and love the fact you take the time to show us all the options. Unfortunately here in B.C. under Technical Safty BC they state: If you are replacing the light fixture yourself in your own fully detached single dwelling, the Safety Standards Act requires that you obtain a homeowner permit.
then been around for some time, just need to look at the lite up displays,, for all the new stuff, see them in the big box stores but never buy them there
It would be awesome if you would do a video on led options like this but for use with sound deadening ceiling- like if I have a double drywalled ceiling, how could I mount something like this without putting giant holes through both slabs and not lose the sound deadening.
