If I were in your shoes and next semester at MIT was definitely remote, I would take a gap year. I can't imagine not being on campus for MIT... it's such a huge part of your education.

Honestly you're scaring me. I applied ED to Columbia and got in. Similarly, I applied to MIT because my mom wanted me to in the early round and was deferred (I withdrew my app because after getting into Columbia I did not give a shit lmao). I'm now wondering if it actually is the right fit. While I'm interested in computer science, I'm also very interested in the performing arts and after speaking with some MIT people I felt that it just wasn't as good for that kinda stuff. What if I would've been better suited for another school? Did I pigeonhole myself?
