4 years later and I'm glad I've found your quick start tutorials. I wanted a great compact camera for vacation instead of lugging a full frame DSLR plus lenses. The Sony RX100 VII met almost 90% of my needs for vacation photo and videos. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciate it. Cheers!

One more hint: Flip the flash with your left index finger upwards so it will fire at a ceiling. The result may be way more pleasing than direct flash.

    4 years later me too...
I bought the MVII recently and this video is one of the best about this camera in the channel and highly professional! No unnecessary talk and straight to the point, but very comprehensible at the same time.
Great thanks Tony, you have given me lots of inspiration!

Another way to turn on the camera, just to review photos, is to press the Play button on the back. That way you can look at your pictures without activating the lens every time.

I don't usually write comments but on this one i was compelled to. I must say that what a good fortune it is that a page like yours exists on youtube. I bought this camera recently and was desperate to learn all the things so that i could fully utilize all the benefits of this beautiful machine. Now instead of mountainous and time consuming task of reading everything in the manual all i had to do was watch this one hour video. Best way to learn and i also like how you setup a huge tv in the back for headings. By the way i love the way you deliver your speech, clear and precise.

AF-C and 'tracking expand flexible spot" seems to work really well. Once I focus, I can recompose, and it keeps that point more or less over my intended focal point. Pretty neat.

I am looking to buy the RX100m7 very soon, and YT recommended your video.
I love photography, but I generally keep things on auto on my Sony HX60. I'm familiar with what some functions do, but wouldn't know how to use them properly, so I'm so pleased that you went through each feature slowly, explaining them as simply as possible. I have clicked subscribe, and will definitely come back to this video to refresh my memory.

I just received my Sony RX100 VII and your tutorial came in handy. I just came back from a trip in the Antelope Arizona and instead of taking photos with a DSLR, I ended up just using my iPhone because the tour was going so fast, so a powerful pocket camera would have been really handy. Therefore, I decided to buy the Sony RX100 VII (instead of a mirrorless camera) which is great when traveling plus there is a great tutorial video(yours) to help me figure out on how to use and navigate the menu :) :) :).. Actually I watched this tutorial before I decided to buy the camera... and I am watching it again. Thanks

I did that and omg tried video transfer and was successful ...love the way you teach it’s clear and perfect👍 thanks again and stay safe❤️

Here’s a tip, if you have another camera, lets say a A6500 and the the RX100 VII, change the name of files it stores to RX1, then you know that the photos you took came from the RX. You can also change the A6500 to A65, 3 digits is max for both cameras.

Thanks for a straightforward trip through the basics. I usually RTFM, but when I got the RX100M7, figured I'd put the battery in and have it charging while I went through the manual. Except putting in the battery led to setting up location / wifi / and the next thing I knew I was on a screen that looked like a jet fighter dashboard, and couldn't figure out how to get out of that screen. And the manual wasn't helping me since I was already in the woods without having dropped enough breadcrumbs. Your video brought me back to understanding basic navigation - something the manual seems to have overlooked in their voluminous pages detailing each function.

The rx100 v was the very first mirrorless camera that I bought and besides from teaching me how to take photos, I have taken stunning photos that most people would think came out of a DSLR. IMO, the old f1.8-f2.8 is much better suited for the 1" sensor than the new zoom lens.

The micro HDMI is very useful. Get a HDMI to USB adapter and you have a very capable camera for live streaming or an ultra high quality Webcam. If 1080p30 is enough you can get such adapters for $20. If you power it via USB the camera can do that for hours and it will keep your face in focus very reliably.

Lots of great tips! Is there a way to set a Euro spec camera to 24p/30p? Mine has 25p/50p/100p as options, which annoyingly don't match the more common 60p used online... EDIT: Never mind! Seems you can swap between PAL and NTSC formats in the setup menu :) Got it set to NTSC now, much more youtube friendly ;)

Any idea how to change the down button of the wheel from "Switch Av/Tv" to exposure compensation?

Excellent review!!! Congratullations! One question that I've: What is the resolution of the pictures at 200mm? Can't find this information. Thanks in advance for your time and care.

The zoom is optical up to 200mm, so the resolution is 20.1Mp at the optimum aspect ratio, which I believe is 3:2. Top resolution is less for 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios. Past 200mm, digital zoom kicks in, and the resolution drops.

I also had problems with the new app. (Sometimes still do)
The old play memories app was great.
Anyway, I had the app for the same camera on several android devices.
Shut down all devices except for the device ur using..
    Retry.
    It should work.
U may have to restart your phone.

    Hi, Tony.
    Thank you for the tutorial.
One question: You explained how to begin a movie (video) but how do you end it?

I own an RX100ii, but I stopped using it a good while ago.
To record video, press red button.
To end recording video, press red button again.
While video is recording, if you press shutter button, or button to take photo, it will take a "screen shot" quality photo of video.
Rotating the dial that has aperture priority/shutter priority modes... to movie mode, that's supposed to remember your previous settings in movie mode.
