Depends your daily calorie index. To much cardio can break down and affect the synthesis of protein and recovery and hypertrophy and in some scenario you should not run daily, especially if your are gaining muscle and you are close to your fitness weight. That's why most of the runner develop a different kind of hypertrophy to a person that do exercise it in the gym, also runner usually have skinny legs, strong but not at the same level of a person that train in the gym.
Running it's the best exercise for cardio.

But in all honesty, it never did a ton for fat loss and ultimately effects recovery and sleep patterns. Trying to keep up the performance training and lifting was a losing battle.
Now I do 20 min of max incline treadmill walking not holding on 3x per week after full body lifting sessions. Other than that I walk outdoors 1-2hrs daily just to be generally active. I feel so much better, I sleep way better, I'm stronger, and way leaner with a much higher BMR and maintenence calorie intake.

Cardio is necessary to improve cardio. Strength training is necessary to improve strength. Eating and sleeping is necessary for living. Ur body adapts to stress from right stimulus and proper rest and food.
Gain weight = more calories in vs out. Lose weight = more calories burned vs in.
Cardio does use energy and help metabolism, but is not necessary for for bruning. A caloric deficit is. No matter how much or how little you do. It can help, but dont do it for the sole purpose of burning calories or else it becomes a chore as well as an unhealthy relationshipnwith food and exercize. Treat it as self care. Eat to live, stay healthy and inclue some enjoyment in both training and nutrition and dont fall for hype. Some people succeed despite what they do not because of it, and others say things to make money off of it regardless of if its true or not.

Hi Jay. I’ve been watching your content for about a year now. I’m 55 and decently built for a normal man that age. I’m 6’3” 240 and lifted all the time into my late 20’s. At my age now, is it possible to get a muscular physique if I do it correctly? I know I’m too old to obviously get anywhere close to a bodybuilder look, but I’m wanting to get muscular before my body gets too old to do anything. At 55 do you suggest heavier or lighter weights? At 53 I did 820 pounds leg presses three reps and benched 225 with just a few weeks of lifting . Thanks for any info you can give me!!!!

      Jay is 49.
What do you think? Is it possible to build muscle?
Of course need to keep in mind- he’s on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).
I would suggest checking your levels of testosterone. If on the lower end and have many of the symptoms, would suggest to do everything possible to do it without the needles. If no significant improvement, maybe go on HRT.
PS heavy weights is relative, depending on goals, injury history and strength.
For someone 225 on bench is 1repmax, for others that’s a warm up weight. Legpress is the worst example for strength, could be as well doing 2inch range of motion or going as low as mobility allows and doing 3sec pause at the bottom.
      Good luck.
Also, take a look on ketogenic diet/carnivore. Great for overall health, joints, mobility, chronic diseases, weight loss and even muscle gain.

As a coworker of mine who's about a third of my age found out if you like going to shoot hoops or something similar with your buddies without a good cardio foundation you're going to run out of gas long before your game is finished cause weight training doesn't help you with that.

I separated my days full body compound lifts only for 1.5hours or cardio for 1.5 hours boxing mma agility ladders jump rope hardcover stuff. I love crawling out the gym but I have to separate my insane cardio from my weight lifting days(train to failure). But you have to do what works best for your body we are all different. I'm 36, 14% body fat at 5'9 just trying to train for longevity.
