  • Garmin, who need no introduction to most have finally launched a sonar / fish finder. Although most associate Garmin with SatNav and FitBit products, they also have over 30 years worth of knowledge in marine products and sonar devices, but up until now these have been primarily fixed to boats or other vessels and used in for deep water situations.
With the brand new Garmin Striker Cast you have all that knowledge in the palm of your hand and are able to explore whats below the surface where you fish from the bank. Take sonar anywhere you fish with STRIKER™ Cast and STRIKER™ Cast GPS. Just download the STRIKER Cast app for Apple® or Android™, pair the castable sonar to your compatible smartphone, cast out, reel back in and see what’s beneath the water’s surface.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I bought one of these from Crowthorne Angling yesterday, and have got to say I think it’s going to be one of those things I will wonder how I ever lived without.
So easy to set up, really great small compact and rugged design, the app is super easy and you can literally start using it the moment you cast it into the water, or attached it to your bait boat (like I did)
Thanks Ali, I’m really excited to learn more about using this to greatly improve my watercraft skills

Hi, how are you finding the Garmin?
It looks great, does it give you any indication as to the bed type (silt or gravel)?
      Many thanks, Liam

Wonder how well it works on the ice?

i just tried it last weekend on the ice. had about 12-14 inches. i thought it would pick up the ice too much but it worked really well. When the hole started freezed it held in place perfectly too. it lasted me 12 hours of battery and still had 1 bar of battery left. was marking my bait going down perfectly and i could see it down below at 6 inches above the bottom. was pretty impressed

Was thinking of using this with my kayak tied with braid or something straight to the boat bet that would work right?

It even comes with some decent length braid in the box, ready to go.

Bluetooth is definitely gonna be less effective than wifi. For 130$ I would think they would have went w wifi

      Glad they didn’t use Wi-Fi. I don’t have Wi-Fi when I’m fishing, thank goodness

@@Gulagula-oc2wyit's wifi direct connection to your phone, you don't need a router or internet. WiFi has a longer range than Bluetooth, so you can say float a wifi unit down a river or let the current take it a ways and maintain connection.

Buyer beware! Unlike every other fish finder on the planet, the Striker Cast does not have a fish alarm. This makes it pretty much useless when tethered to a watercraft as you don't know if you're over fish unless you stop everything and look at your phone. So far, Garmin seems completely uninterested in updating the software to fix this ridiculous oversight. If you're planning on using it on the water, DON'T BUY THIS UNIT!!!
