In this video I will take you through an in depth comparison between the Garmin GT56 Transducer and its predecessor the GT54 Transducer. I compare the mega imaging settings between the two transducers while keeping the range set to 60 feet. I show you some common scenarios where the GT54 excels, and situations where it falls flat on its face. By the end of the video I show you how the GT56 is the better transducer in just about every situation. The GT56 allows you to better differentiate between fish, a rock, or a physical piece of structure on the lake bottom. If you are in the market for a fish finder or looking to upgrade from the GT54 transducer I encourage you to buy through one of my links as it provides my channel with the revenue it needs to continue to create videos. Thanks again for watching!
Well done! This video is the best comparison between the GT54 and GT56 Transducers I have seen on UA-cam. You certainly get my respect as an educated Garmin graph user. I just gave you a like and subscribed to your channel. Thank you!
Thank you!

I feel like even though you may have the settings the same, you may need to adjust the contrast on the gt54 to "brighten" the image to be similar to the 56 return.
That’s a good point. I normally keep the contrast around 50% especially for shallower water/softer bottom but increasing it could increase the overall exposure making the image overall easier to read. Thanks for the comment and recommendation!
Nice video! Great work! THANKS for your contribution!
I just picked up a 73sv and it came with the gt56 transducer and it’s amazing. I absolutely love that unit for kayaking.
Very well done video! Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!!
i wonder how much difference is caused by the differeent screen size, more pixels on the 9 inch.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this.
Hello, I have a question. Does the GT 56 side scan work at a depth of 50 meters in salt water?
It will work at this depth but you will have to go down to the 800 KHz on side scan to get a decent image.
@FishOclock89 Will the Garmin echomap 73sv UHD with GT 56 be good at seeing rocks and fish clearly in salt water. At 50 meters depth? Is it better than any other transducer? And better than the chirp feature. Because the GT 56 transducer does not work on chirp. Sorry for the long questions. But I am new to this device
@@abdulqader2573yes the 56 would be better because it has the 455 and the 800 kHz, the 54 only has 455 and 1170 KHz. I would use the 800 kHz setting (which is what I used when I was looking for ship wrecks offshore in the gulf)
@@FishOclock89 Should I buy the GT 56? The side imaging is excellent. I can get a clear image even at great depths of 50 meters to 100. I want your advice. Thank you for your position.
@@abdulqader2573depends on what other electronics your running. Do you have a trolling motor or other marine electronics ? I would go with the fish finder that’s compatible with the equipment you have.
Would the range quality increase if you were viewing only one side at a time?
No. I dont believe so. This is because when you select only one side, the transducer is still sending the same signal out you are only effectively zooming in on one side of the image.
You have some settings out of wack on the 73. My 73 looks a lot better than that
I have gotten better images out of my 73 in the past. I think it might be the location I was scanning. The 73 just doesn't do well reading over a soft bottom with lots of vegetation. Doesn't seem like the side scan has enough power to shoot through the vegetation.
Thanks
