    It makes sense. A cabinet impulse response is just a flat EQ curve with no dynamics.
    So anytime you create a metal guitar tone with an IR, you will have to content with a somewhat flat, sterile, uniform performance… until now.
    Supposedly the new IRDX Core from Bogren Digital helps introduce some of that analogue feel back into the digital world…
    How does it do it? Does it actually make a difference?
    Let’s find out.

    Once you hear it, cannot unhear it. This plugin is now a staple (for me).

    I wasn't convinced in the beginning about buying this because it didn't seem to affect the tone too much. But after experimenting and watching how other people figured out how to implement this plugin. I bought it. I forgot where I saw a video, but someone explained that the 'intense' setting is great for rhythm guitars and the 'normal' setting is better for leads. This might be tip of the iceberg, but I will be following how other people go about using this.

    "This is going to be for the last 5% of your guitar tone." I think that's an excellent description. To my ear it does add a subtle realism to IRs.

  • @IntheDAW
    @IntheDAW 4 місяці тому +3

    Honestly it sounds like a dynamic eq paired with saturation. It's not a massive game changing thing but I can see how it can add that subtle 5% extra to add movement. It's something that can be recreated but it's easier to just use a plugin that has an amount you can use.

    I got the MLC plugin because there was something there with the IRDX that makes it feel more alive like playing through a real setup. Great for practicing with!

    Bogren says add this plugin after your IR. So if you’re using an amp sim with a built in IR this does go after the amp sim. But if you're using an IR loader after an amp sim then this plugin goes after the IR loader.

  • @svarogstudio

    It for sure adds some mojo, but would be nice if you had an option to disable that high end fuzziness on intense mode. Now I'd like to try and see if you can get similar kind of thing using multiband expander on lows and highs for example to get more movement and life.

    I feel it just takes the place of a few steps I do in a mix by adding a little gain saturation to lower end with compression and boost in high mids. If you compared the same steps in a full mix I really dont think you will hear a difference then skipping these steps and adding the plugin.

    I really like it in my mix. I tend to do it dialed back a tad while playing/tracking though (throws my attack/palm mute off i think). I think I'm just use to flat/stale/digital guitar tones haha.

    If I'm using Bogren IR packs on a different amp sim that isn't a Bogren sim would I still use this plugin?

  • @armandolopez180
    @armandolopez180 4 місяці тому

    Just want to be clear - are you putting this BETWEEN the amp sim (with the cab section turned off) and an IR loader, or are you keeping the cab section of the amp sim on and then just putting the plugin after that?

    • @ChernobylAudio666
      @ChernobylAudio666  4 місяці тому +1

      The plugin should go directly after the IR loader. In my case, I'm using EN Hardball which has an included IR loader, so the IRDX goes directly after that. If I was using an IR loader instead, it would go after the IR loader.

  • @lenni-hazels

    I am currently trialing the plugin, and I fiddled around with stacking multiple instances to hear better what it does. Still not convinced that I would really need this plugin.

  • @hbomb495
    @hbomb495 4 місяці тому

    Can definitely hear a subtle washyness or slight warble effect going on like you'd get from a moving speaker when the plugin was engaged.
    I was skeptical going in but hearing the guitar solo'd I could hear a difference. It's very subtle, but it's there.
    Is basically the "humanize" function like you get on EZ Drummer for guitar.
    I recall Glenn Fricker once referring to IR's as a canned sound.
    Looks like Bogren may have found the can opener.

    I've been playing with an IR Loader that has a similar feature built in. The Cabinetron from ThreeBodyTech. It's very fancy. It has all the features of the STL Libra IR Loader but more visuals. I'm still new to it as a former STL Libra user.

    Wow, it really gives ''life'' to the IR. Irregularity is what makes it sound more human. It's exactly the same for synth sounds, you need movements, automations and irregularities to make it sound less ''computery'' hehe Sometimes it's cool to have something that sound digital and lifeless but yeah, this plugin is insane tbh.

    for me it only added more low end and made the guitars louder. I think it just fools you into thinking it sounds better since it boost db and low end.
    also this is what they tried to get rid of back in the analog days. and now we want to recreate it haha.

  • @Mike_Benz_
    @Mike_Benz_ 4 місяці тому

    It really did make the guitars come to life and made them less digital sounding. Made them sound bigger, fuller, more detailed and audible while retaining the clarity and detail of everything sound around them. Usually when something (in the digital domain) gets bigger and fuller it masks a lot of other things in the mix.
    I wonder how this thing goes with just using it as a mixing tool not on guitars after IR's.

    • @Mike_Benz_
      @Mike_Benz_ 4 місяці тому

      Ok, so I've been trying it out on programmed Hip Hop drums and VST Instruments, this thing also does a similar thing to all sounds run through it. Really quite a good plugin, only downfall I can see is the CPU/DSP load.

      Perhaps, but also adds movement and a 3D quality without degrading the guitar tone - which is a big deal. The last thing I want to fight with is rounding off my guitar tone so that is sounds soft and not aggressive... they've done some machine learning something-or-other... the effect is subtle, but it does work

    This one is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from that one that was included with that amp(obviously I can't remember shit). However when you move that big round button past the (IDR) mark, it puts a minuscule bump on the high end, and past I think 150 it puts a cut around 18k or some shit. the higher you go the bigger the difference, oh and I think it cuts some mids too, or maybe that's on the amp version of it. I can't remember shit anymore.
