Encore une belle performance de Gary ...on ne s'en lasse pas de l'écouter...un vrai régal....VIVE LE BLUES DE GARY!!
Absolute legend. Going to be telling my grandkids "Way back I saw Gary Clark Jr. live." And they'll say, "Wow, my grandma is so cool."
I'm very sorry to say that will never happen. Famous music is becoming every year worse, music styles like this will slowly become lesser famous, until only people with real good music taste will know them. I'll just tell you that my classmates don't even know who Guns n Roses are ( just to make an example ). Music quality is falling down, this is soooooo bad.
I have to disagree. If you look hard enough there is an massive amount of incredible music today. They just aren't the ones that are the most famous. There are so many artists that are taking lessons and ideas from the greats of the past and learning from them and expanding on them. People today seem to always believe that music is dying now days but I totally disagree, you just have to look a bit harder and I'm ok with that. Also, not all famous music is horrible, Bruce Springsteen's album is topping the charts right now!

I think we should all stop trying to predict the future and live in the moment.
The future of the blues is safe with Gary Clark Jr. and Derek Trucks.
I vote for a new reality show: get Gary Clark, Jr.,...Ben Harper,....Robert Randolph,...Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall, II, Keith Richards, John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl, Jack White, and The Black Keys up in a far away, wilderness northwest woods house for a month,...film/record everything,...and let the spirit of the Blues and real roots music pour fourth!
So much this! But Add in John Butler and Two Gallants as well ;)
They did a documentary with Jack White, Jimmy Page, and The Edge where they lived in a country house for a few weeks and jammed. At the end they had to play a gig together, it was awesome. If you put Dave Grohl in there he'd just disrupt the whole flow of things. He's said it himself that he's a control freak, he doesn't let anyone else write.
You forgot chuck berry and Clapton
Gotta let Buddy Guy go with em
+DoobTube71 I would want to be the french maid in that camp ;)
Best thing to happen to black music in a while! Awesome inspiration!! #sockittoembro!
I'm kind of stuck on you! I can. listen ALL DAY & NIGHT. IT'S sooooo frigging amazing.
I think its great how music can extend beyond the background of a person or the race..the focus in this interview is about the music..nobody's fighting about where they should categozize him.
I saw him at Coachella last year and he brought tears to my eyes. It was wonderful. Then I broke my leg a week later.
This was great--if he doesn't become a major music star in this country, we're on the wrong track! That last Chuck Berry-inspired tune was a blast.
SIMPLY AMAZING. How could you possibly dislike this?
Keeping blues music alive!
I was lucky enough to see Richie Havens at Blissfest, near Bliss, Michigan a little less than five years ago. I have never been so blown away, laying staring at the stars while his frantic yet collected rhythms danced through the air.
I had heard Clark's name thrown around, and had listened to him this past summer, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but had forgotten to give him a longer listen.
Tonight shall be dedicated to these two amazing artists.
Something about Gary goes past the song itself, like the soul of his song will always fill any room. he just always captures the mood and grabs my attention. Definitely one of the spotlight artists of this day and age
+Steve Pierce Well said, sir.
I just came back from a long night and this version of bright lights just saved me... thank you
Thank you, SPIN magazine. I listened to Bright Lights with the band for the first time and it blew my mind. This guys bringing back the good ole days. Clark Jr Black Keys Jack White, their all bringing it back. And its 'bout time
What a sound!
Saw this guy 9 years ago in Gruene Hall opening for someone, I forget who. I was blown away and wondered what ever happened with him. Very pleased to see him again.
this guy is fantastic, what a great sound, this is how music should be, its real, got soul, feel , guy plays with heart and passion...nothing is fabricated or pretentious...thankyou gary
Props to whoever was running the camera!
Best performance I've seen in years.
amazing..
Blues for life.
We're waiting Gary Clark Jr. here in Brazil in 30 april! Thanks KEXP for this "pocket show".
I moved out of Seattle a week before he played at the Croc! Bad move; I was pretty bummed I missed that show. He shreds man. My friend saw him at Jazzfest in NOLA this summer and he rocked it. Awesome video, thanks KEXP!
Gary get it. Pure talent, feeling.
This gig is so inspiring for me...I just bought an Epi Casino because of GC Jr. Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
I found myself dozing during the interview. It was interesting to listen to, but their voices are so soft-very relaxing. Diggin' the grooves 2.
The man is clearly a genius
KEXP thanks for the ride on all ya'll show
5:53 Don't Owe You a Thing
14:31 Bright Lights
20:40 Shotgun Man
Just because you don't like someone's music doesn't mean you can't acknowledge their talent
Gary Clark Jr, excelente!
This has brought me a lot of optimism... and I don't say that lightly. There are still musicians out there. DAMN that guy can sing...great performance....I wished I could play the guitar, or sing
Gary Clark makes Epihphone cool again!
There are very few artists who hit me like a lightning bolt when I first hear them. The first time I heard Jeff Buckley was one of those moments. When I heard Gary Clark Jr play Nextdoor Neighbour Blues on Letterman was another one of those rare moments. Can't wait to catch him live.
that might be your opinion. But i am a blues player myself, and I think he is mediocre, knows how to build a solo w stick licks w wall use. But doesn't shine,. its his look and the falsetto and lack of other commercially viable looking artists along w his relation to Texas blues artists that put him where he is,. He is not propelling blue forward, just mimicking it slightly better than the Black Keys,.Examples of better players, Robbie Krieger, Derek, Trey, Dweezil, Marc Fiord, Peter Frampton, Herring. Even jackie Green. But if you don't play guitar and not really cognizant of those licks first hand, i can understand how the evolution is not the same as mine . All of my solo sand my friends share the same aspects as his playing....same unison beds, playing the major w the minor....its all been done.....and gars who can play at that tolerance are many many,. Check out Frampton,on Midnight Special Feel Like I do..the playing is light years better,. Th either thing is great blues players have great control on vibrato, ands i don't hear that here. What i here are template songs, like in the vein of. Try Ben Harper Fight for your mind, or Will to Live Albums, or better yet his album w Innocent Criminals. the song is Woman in me, and Jah work
BEN LEVIN I think Gary Clark Jr. exemplifies well the idea that blues isn't all about complicated, mind blowing new riffs, but about the passion and power of the music. He may not be playing insanely technical pieces all the time (though i can assure you he does at times), but he's playing with a certain emotion and flavor that is pretty unique. Yeah most of us blues players can adequately play most of the classic licks GC plays, but few can play it with his level of passion and excitement and dynamics and really get the audience excited and on their feet like he can. In terms of vibrato, whether that specific technique is what makes or breaks a blues artist really comes down to personal preference. Maybe it doesn't really come through in recordings, but having just seen him play live last night (and having seen many, many other blues shows), I can tell you that this guy is one of the most passionate, electrifying players that I've ever had the pleasure of seeing on stage.
BEN LEVIN Spot on.

@@brett6786 Well you must be quiet a mediocre musician yourself to judge an artist by its look and the people he knows. Gary Clark Jr is where he is right now because of himself. He started playing on a garage with its neighbour, and learned everything by himself. He is my model since I'm a kid, and the only two people who can bring me joy and tears by playing the guitar are him and Jimi. Don't say a guitarist is mediocre when he can touch so many people's feeling so deeply.
I know your comment is 6 years old, but it pissed me off so much. Really.
Such an amazing artist. I love watching kexp because it has some real raw talent on the show
so good. so good. as a louisiana/dive bar/blues bar regular...you can't fake this. soul...
Great talent, awesome camera work, crummy interviewer. Keepin the blues alive!!! \m/ \m/
Who the fuck said the music is dead.
This guy is amazing.Amazing guitars.Amazing Skills.
AMAZING!
Hear my train a comin' .... Jimi his back with us . I love this guy :) Thanks
This amazing artist, is so talented.....i made music in my early 20s, gave up what was about to be a successful career for a life in the street...That didnt go to well, lol.....Jail aint fun, neither is drinking and eventually worse......Straightened my life out in my mid 30s........Thought about getting back into singing/writing, but I was under the notion it was too late, and more so, i love the blues and old music, and felt there was no way i was gonna break through in a time where music seem to lose its soul.....Not even knowing who Gary clark was, bc i stopped listening to current music....Completely oblivious that he broke through or even exsisted....then i got addicted to girls, that did go well, Until, i got married, lol, that didnt last....About 2 yrs ago im on youtube looking for old blues songs, and there he was, i was elated and facinated...I think i bought my 1st electric guitar and amp that day, then 7 more in that year, built a studio in my house and been working 12 hour days writing, and getting viscous on guitar...Now, at FORTYYYYYY almost 41, im finally doing what came most natural to me, and finally happy.....If i never saw Gary performing brigght lights, and ready when my train pull in? I wouldve never been making music today 1000000000% Now im a full time blues man.....And just about to start a blues record, do they even use that term today? lol Soon well have holigrams of our favorite artists in our living room, scaryyyyyyy! lol ROCK ON GARY!
So beautiful.
saw this guy open for arc angels and antones was lucky enough to stand next to his mom and dad . eric tessmer played to i believe . but what a show and to be filled in about this gentlemen by his dad was so cool. thank you for posting
He is classic! Incredible talent...and FRESH!
Thank you for keeping the blues tradition alive and well. Lovin your style!
the best thing in 10yrs, no one's smoother or cooler, listen up!!!!
i don't want to have to wait until september to hear the rest of this ridiculously amazing album
Thanks for posting! Great music with great feelings, I love it!
Won't let me like this more than once ;(
This guy is really good. Often he keeps it simple but so perfect though he can really cut loose and do crazy stuff. What he does is so full of soul and groove, his singing too.
Best concert I have ever been to in my life!
lol
Impresionante !
It's a cherry Korean made Epiphone Casino with a bigsby. There's an interview with D'Addario where he says it, and he says the guitar is all stock and his main guitar, although I think the interview was from a while back. He now has many different Casinos besides this one, including some made in Japan Elitists and a made in China 1961 reissue. He also has a 1967 Gibson ES-330, which he started using a bit fairly recently.
Many thanks to y'all at KEXP for this and the many other artists you profile to us, you rock!
I love Gary love the performance:-)
I love kexp. maybe one day It's my dream to play on this station. one day...
Agree with everything except Spin, but hell yeah with Clark Jr., The Black Keys, and of course Jack White with his old bands & now his solo work. So my friends music's not dead, and it is about time we recognize these and so much other talent! Blues/blues-rock is everything baby...
Saw him live twice: opening a EC concert in Rio de Janeiro and at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in NYC last year. This guy definitely has the blues.
We still have rock!
This is good. This is sooo good.
Never heard of this place, thank god for it. So many good acts to expand my music collection.....finally.

SPIN introduced me to this guy. Like I said I heard Bright Lights and got addicted. They recommended him, said guitar and blues and I tried it out.
you are real young but already a legend.keep it up.
Damn son, i believe you did sell your soul to the devil
Me gusta! Dicen que este Gary Junior es la nueva promesa del Blues. What do you think?
Beautiful. I love the more acoustic electric sound much more than his fast blues rock. To each his/her own but I loved it.
Absolutely amazing.
Amazing.
Natural and sincere! Good!
Finally someone mentions The Black Keys as a similar sound, all the comparisons to Hendrix and whatnot is nonsense he has much more of a Black Keys sound for sure, and KEXP is amazing when i heard Jordan Cook (Reignwolf) play i was hooked to your videos, Im in Oklahoma so i dont get the radio portion but Def keep up the awsome work.
Die Stimme ist der Hammer! Richtig geiler Typ!
Oh Man!!!!!
uhhh welcome to the blues buddy. You'd be shocked how many songs are repeated with shared lyrics and stuff, which is why the feel of a song is so important in blues music
Looovvvvesss............
