    Hey Cole, the drawers on the tool boxes open and close easier probably because you washed out the grease in the slides. Would be a good idea for longevity to re-grease them.

  • @santay2772

    Add one more thing to your list: Label all the drawers. People will find things easier and, most important, where to put them away. One thing I learned in my younger days as a warehouse manager is to once a week make sure everything is picked up, put away, and the floor is swept. If you do it every week it doesn't take long at all and nothing piles up.

      I’m not a label person because if it’s mine I know where it is but the clean up sweep is a must but with a place as large as Cole’s I would put in a vacuum air sweep turn it on and and it keeps the dust down from sweeping

      Labels on tool boxes are for people with poor work ethic and no self discipline. Do you label your kitchen cabinets?

    • @santay2772
      @santay2772 6 місяців тому +6

      Labels are good when multiple people are using the area, but not continuously enough to memorize the layout. My gosh! Work ethics has nothing to do with knowing where to find, or put, things away. I know where everything is in my kitchen, but when my sister visits she doesn't know which cupboard the mixing bowls are in. Duh!@@fishhuntadventure

    You should pick a color paint for each tool area/shop or personal tool and mark them so you know where they came from and where they go back to after you are done with them. You can even mark the toolboxes if you need to have a visual ad reminder for others. Lol. just a thought.

      He did have like 3 rolling tool chests, in 3 different colors, and that color was painted on all of the tools in that chest. I think that was in the main shop. He needs to do that in this shop as well. Then you'd know which tools go in the rolling chest and which go elsewhere.

    Cole, I've watched all your family videos with admiration. Your decision to streamline and upgrade has been a wise one. Time IS money. I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic that worked for a big name brand. Our shop was on an industrial level. The shop was spotless. Each mechanic was responsible for Thier own messes. Oil spills, dirt all had to be contended with. Then, they bought us a floor scrubber/ broom. One pass can make a filthy floor clean in five minutes. Not only that, but the grey water can be handled with waste oil easier. The dirt & grime collected. After pushing hundreds of pounds of dirt for years, our employer saved experienced technicians sweeping. It made a problem chore a non issue. Ask ANYONE that uses one. They are a real timesaver.

    Some solutions for the removal of sticky residue on stainless steel: Cooking Oil - Cooking oil is one of the most commonly used solvents for tackling sticky residues on stainless steel. Dip a clean cotton cloth in cooking oil and rub it over the affected areas, waiting for the sticky residue to loosen.
    Alcohol - apply a little alcohol (preferably vodka) to remove the sticky residue off the stainless steel. BUT the quickest and easiest to tackle nasty sticky residue with immediate results is to use WD-40 Multi Use Product. Spray the WD-40 over all the residue; wait a few minutes then wipe off with a rag and wash with dishwashing liquid to remove the grease of the WD-40... happy scrubbing

    Re your breaker issue....this is NOT caused by insulation under a terminal. That would simply result in no power to the outlet. If your breaker is tripping, that is due to a short to ground or neutral which would draw max current. It is important that you find the root cause of the issue or you risk injury and/or fire should the breaker fail to trip. The breaker is there as protection in case of a fault, not as a remedy to an installation fault.

      They do have small tool bags in most pieces of equipment and in their trucks.
      If not already, those also need to be color coded for each bag. That way the designated tools get back to the bag, and the others go back to where they came from.

    • @chrisdzisiak7540

      Dedicated tool boxes for each piece of equipment. Colour or brand coded keeps it organized and there is nothing like having a complete box in each piece of equipment. I say this after 48 years of seeding a crop. This will take up most of the extra tools. Use JD boxes with the mount and the plastic handles (they last the longest ie. fourty plus years for the box on my 4440) and it weighs 40 plus lbs.

  • @elizabethbottroff1218
    @elizabethbottroff1218 6 місяців тому +3

    Large zip lock bags. Each bag has a complete set of sockets of the same brand/grade metric vs imperial. Stash all of your bags in a milk crate. When you have a big project with multiple people using multiple sets, or when you need to work out in the field where things easily go missing, you grab up a bagged set rather than your newer and more expensive sets of sockets. You can also put a bag in each pickup or tractor tool box.
    Take all of the incomplete sets to your local high school, college, or trade school. They always need extra tools. Some granges also have a tool exchange.

    I recommend sheet steel for the top of your workbench. Get the steel folded to create an upturned lip at the back of the workbench (prevents stuff falling down the back of the bench) and a downturned lip at the front of the bench. This makes it nicer to lean against the front of the bench when you are working. Had you considered mounting the compressor above the man door? That space is otherwise wasted. Happy New Year Cornstar Farms!!

      I am almost certain the four prong plugs/receptacles were for three phase 220 volts and served by four wires. Three prong plug/receptacles are single phase 220 served by three wires. Dropping one wire at random is dangerous I believe you have three phase power on large motors on grain elevators on the farm which maybe 440 volts. A Keeping these powers separate usually means separate circuit breaker panels One thing is certain is you need a professional electrician asap

    Cole when you raise the compressor up off the floor, you need to have a pipe extendeed down from the drain with a ball valve , so you can drain the water out of the bottom. Most people forget about doing that and the bottom rusts out, and also you get excessive water in your air lines.

    Cole you can buy a tester that is designed to check if your outlets are properly connected. You simply plug it in to a live outlet and the device has lights on it the inform the installer if it's wired properly and if not what is wired incorrectly on the outlet. Most hardware or the large box stores carry the device.

    Willing to bet the field you plowed and ran the disc over will produce a lot better than previous years as long as you have a good rain season. I really hope you didn’t throw away those sockets just because they were loose. You can get socket trays much cheaper than the 20 dollars you mentioned. Guaranteed someone would be willing to sort through all of them if you didn’t want them. Some of them are probably pretty old if they were your grandfathers and potentially great grandfathers and potentially collectible maybe even a little value to them.
    Put your adjustable wrenches in a bucket get some good rust remover and soak them in it for a week then clean the rust remover off dry them and spray them down with your favorite lube and you’ll have a nice new/used adjustable wrench. You can do the same thing with your socket wrenches and pliers as well.
    You should build a shed on the outside of the shop and install the air compressor in it so you don’t have to listen to it run all the time when you’re using it. It will make the time in your shop much more pleasant.
