My thoughts on the inset of your bedroom ceiling; I thought a lightly patterned wallpaper that compliments the wall color would look really nice and cozy.
Great video Vivian, and very timely as my wife and I are transitioning our home of 18 years to a new look. We took your advice and banished the "Tuscany" vibe. Now the walls are bare, most furniture removed and we are in the "contemplation & research mode". Your videos have been an inspiration. Thank you.
You are truly excellent. You know your stuff. You know what you're talking about. I appreciate you taking the time to go into detail and do the research on these videos. It means a lot. I have been redesigning and building homes for years so I know you know your stuff and I just wanted to share that. Thank you for your videos, they're really well thought out and very well done.
I like when ceiling trays have a ledge type moulding with warm, dimmable LED strip lighting hidden above it to help the ceiling glow.. sometimes gives a skylight effect. Also just love ornate moulding on the ceiling in there.. 😍 I know you’re a moulding gal 😉
I like the idea of adding the trim/molding to a flat boring door. I've never thought of doing that. My husband and I have used it in our dining room. It really does add what I call class, for want of a better word. 😊 Love your videos. Will you ever be showing more room makeovers? I recently came across your rental bathroom makeover from a while back. You did such a nice job, and on a strict budget.
As a Brit I don't vibe with the obsession with panelling at the moment. I agree panelling can often be beautiful but in the UK, it's a feature that denotes a period home of a certain age and brings that context with it. I can see why people want to add a bit of grandeur and interest to their homes, so I don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but if overdone for me it can feel a bit out of place and like interior cosplay, much like how I wouldn't decorate Farmhouse if I lived in a modern apartment. Just my opinion ofc, and I'm not an interior designer!
agree! sometimes it can feel overdone/out of place and the topic of interior decor choices in combination with a home's context/age/location is a very interesting one!
I agree with you, it belongs in a period home. I think that slapping coving up can work in almost any home, there’s so many styles, but the panelling obsession is lost on me🤷🏻♀️
@@PoshPennies yeah I struggle with it. I don't think it's fair to be a snob and say to someone (for example) "you can't decorate your suburban home like an English country house." If you love it, do it. But equally it doesn't look as cohesive if your personal style is fighting the architecture of your home.
Great video! I love layering molding - I started doing this because the beautiful, wide molding I wanted was a budget buster. Now I find it creative, cost effective and the results are wow!
Im just finishing renovations in my place. Thank you for the advice about baseboards and door handles. Taking a break now, but back at it soon😅. Love all your videos, I'm always learning something new.
Me too! I am so happy that I too am changing out all my vent registers. I got two for the floor that allow me to put my new wood floor in them like linear drains and they look so high end for only $100 each.
Yes on the molding for the hollow junk doors. There is a vid here giving the dimensions from edge of the door, you want to have almost an inch higher on the bottom than the top, but top and sides should be equal and from the center line of the doorknob horizontally, it is 2" up and 2" down. Love the baseboard ideas, but personally I think the molding and all cabinetry should be one notch more glossy than the walls. Somehow that just looks right. Good to see you.
The moulding on the door tip is pure genius. I think I’m going to try it coz I’ve hmmm’d and haaaa’d about getting new doors with a little more character to them! Why bother??!! This is *so* doable….and much cheaper!!! ❤👌🏻 You can also paint your vents the colour of the wall. I’ve got dark coloured walls: dark green, dark purple and black. Especially if your walls are dark, you hardly notice them if you paint them (mine are quite small vents, however, high up towards the ceiling).
Last year I changed out the fancy trim over my half height TnG for a plain one and painted it and the walls white. It looks beautiful and more importantly timeless. The best part is that the corners of the fancy trim would catch your upper arms and bruise them if you weren’t careful. For $45 and the price of a nail gun, the lounge and dining were done (only TnG in the house). The hire gun at the local hardware store was broken so I had to buy one. Most ceiling heights in Australia are 8-9 ft so adding beams isn’t really an option but they look great in all those tall ceiling rooms.
I know most people prefer warm light, but I always swap out the bulbs to daylight when I move it. It feels brighter, crisper, and happier to my family.
I love your channel and the effort you put in picking photos and editing. I find your advices very smart and useful and also, you are funny! You go, girl! 😄
This was filled with great ideas, thanks! You've given me food for thought on lighting temps...I usually prefer the cool tones, it feels clean, and the warm tones look dingy. Maybe it depends on the room's purpose? Gonna be thinking about that now. Love your content!
Poshy, I wondered what happened to you. Great video. On my return air vent, you got me thinking. I have the slats, it's punched out sheet metal. I painted it more of a tan/beige to match the walls but still looks bad. I can cut out the slat section and glue that same stuff you used. Then, frame out the edges with thin molding around the fixed part to the wall, then again frame the raw edges of the "door" with another thinner half round molding. I did not know but that new sheet metal has a coating, you clean that off with alcohol, then a light coat of 'etching' primer, or any primer, like Killz. You cannot put latex over the etching primer. I found out the hard way with my mail box., you have to use lacquer over that.
Love every one of these ideas. I have done a few already. Nice to know I am on the right path. BTW... I agree with the color temp of bulbs. I like 3200 bulbs.
Renter friendly tips also, please. My downsized condo has moulding on the doors, high ceilings with good light fixtures, and new wood floors. My problem is blank walls. Thanks.
I absolutely love your videos and am in the process of figuring out what colors I want to paint each room since all the walls were gray when we moved in. I wanted to add some wallpaper for visual interest in lieu of a lot of art that will put holes in my walls. I’m a little frustrated with all the zillions of patterns I’m seeing on line. Should I use a small busy pattern in a large room, or a large pattern with a lot of blank spaces between the visual elements? What about for a small room? Do you even recommend any wallpaper?
if the color relates to other things in your room then it's being done in a more intentional way and there is less of a chance of it looking weirdly disjointed from the rest!
My house has wood ceilings, floors and walls, so i can't use wallpaper, and my parents don't want me to paint my walls, and i can't really use molding.how calling n i add more personality to my room?
Textiles (rug, window treatments, pillows, bed linens, throw blanket), art work/photos, and decor (things that you cherish and/or that reflect your interests)
Everyone says to warmen the lights but I just don't understand why would people do that. Like warm lights gives nausea and darken everything, it's not natural and makes everything yellowish like in a horror movie. Completely agree with most of the other advices though

You are one of the most intelligent designer/influencers out there. As a designer by training, I love your approach!

My favourite tip here was the vents. I love what you’ve done with yours, what a change! 😍
No don't stain the door! I love the variation in the grain and colour ❤

Vivian do you think wall molding would look silly over our lightly textured walls? How would you solve this issue? Love your style & videos. Thanks.

Interior cosplay - yes that's it! It absolutely feels like that.
@PoshPennies In the UK our housing stock is so varied. A lot of people tend to make interior choices based on the age and style of the building.

We’ve always invested in solid wood interior doors, a great upgrade to any house- almost as good as a kitchen or bathroom upgrade
Changing the interior doors was our first move but we went with shaker doors with frosted glass panels for privacy in our hallway.

I love your style and excellent tips as always 😊
Great video 😊 can you please make a video about mixing wood tones?🙏🙏 I struggle with that 🥴
Yes you should stain the door as it looks unfinished.
Renter friendly tips also, please. My downsized condo has moulding on the doors, high ceilings with good light fixtures, and new wood floors. My problem is blank walls. Thanks.
Maybe add some colorful paintings.
Lots of great tips, as always 💕 I loved some darker ceiling examples you've shown. I wouldn't have thought of that!
Love your videos ❤ I vote yes for staining the door. Such a cool find.
Brilliant ideas, Vivien. I´m going to finally switch the ugly plastic builder-made handles on our otherwise wooden windows 😀
Very good advice. Always enjoy your videos.
Always be inspired after watching your videos. Thanks:)

I have a double tray ceiling in my bedroom and plan to rip it out and convert it to a coffered ceiling. This could be an option for you.
What about adding wallpaper on your ceiling.
such a fun idea! 🤩
THANK YOU SO MUCH
These are great tips, thank you!
Yes! Stain the door.
Thanks!! ❤
Can you do an accent wall by painting a wall a different colour if you refernce that colour somewhere in your decor?

Most people don’t like to walk in their home and feel like they’re walking into their doctor’s office.
What is the color of the walls in the bedroom you are in? 🤩🤩
So many people bash the so-called “boob light,” but your suggestion for a replacement is no better. You simply went from “boob” to “blob”.
Don't stain the door
New name for your channel? Bye bye Posh Pennies. I love your content.😉
NO STAIN, just a clear coat.
I loved you video … great ideas … Thank you!! 😊🩷
