I think the campground where I am now might frown on me marking my territory. John already marked it though.
😀😂😀😂🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
Wife and I drive a class C, 30 foot, no slides, this was my reasoning on the no slides. I want to be able to Book if need be, and quick.Plus less to break, keep it simple.
@@RVOddCoupleIt might be a “John” thing😂 my John does the outside pee thing too🤩
If u ever come to vancouver bc area let me know!
we have a half-tank-rule: once you start getting near the 1/2 tank mark on the fuel gauge, start looking for a station.
Good rule👍
Actually, mine is down a quarter and I'm topping off already.
Always burn off the top of the tank.
Same here and with a Class A it doesn’t hurt the wallet near as bad
I added another 60 gallon aux diesel tank in the bed of the truck and it can trickle into stock tank....never worry about running out.
We travel back roads, very little interstates. Support small businesses this way!!
We did that most of the way. Slow but lots of fun
Yep...we stay off the interstate any chance we can!...never in a hurry to get anywhere!
Definitely - avoid big roads and big cities!
Travelling the back roads and highways lets you really see, smell, and experience the countryside. The interstate is so impersonal.
YES👏🏼
Another reason we like Harvest Hosts!
It’s not just big cities! This crisis is lurking everywhere!😞
Praying
Especially California
@@bobrouse8634 Yes, make sure you have your passport(s) when visiting California, or you'll be the song ....and you can never leave..."Hotel California".
Take a Garmin reach or similar in case the phones go down, one button gets you help. Also, put an air tag on your dog and a gps tracker on your RV. Your family can follow you and if someone steals your RV you can find it. Airtag bicycles and things that hang on the outside of your RV.
I have what I call my bug out list which I use to get ready for camping. One part is what we have to do for the house, one part for the truck, and one part for the camper. I also carry two spare tires after getting a flat in the middle of no place. There are still a lot of great people out there willing to help when needed. Safe travels.
We ran into a bunch of kind friendly people along the way….
Be honest, John. This is your entire checklist.
#1. Tell Mercedes we need a checklist.
#2. Relax. 😊
Truth!
😂
@@RVOddCouple Same for my John!! He relays on me,
I do the lists and planning!!
Also I miss the AAA Trip tics…. Always have a paper map!!
We also stay out of states/cities that don’t like my 2 A rights!!!
A paper map is priceless ☺️.
We typically use our RV GPS, but ALWAYS have a paper Atlas with us just in case. I’m glad I’m old enough to know how to read a map properly.
Yes, so sad when people pass by... they don't even say good morning or hello, or even make eye contact for that matter.
I think people are afraid of that connection....and definitely things have changed since ground zero covid... 2019 was the very first year we became full-timers and then with covid hitting shortly after...oh boy that was quite the experience.
I just pray that God uses me to brighten someone else's day.
As far as safety...it can be scary out there. Always be aware of your surroundings.
We set out in 2018 Carol. Things have changed so much. God bless❤️
So very well said,I was going to post but you already did it!
It's definitely getting rough out there... gotta pick your destinations and routes carefully for sure
Yes it is. Be ready & careful out there
@RVOddCouple bought a portable water pump and tested it out by dropping it in a river and fed it through a portable filtration system and it works like a dream.... looking into getting an RV WaterGen this summer as a backup. ... if close to Camp Gratitude - do you have a cb handle guys?
@@Greg-n-Simba We love our clear source Nomad.
As a widow having lost my navigator 4 years ago its hard. Can't look at maps while driving so I depend on phone. It would be nice to caravan with other RVers at least part of the way. You're right about new rigs. My 2021 is needing more repairs again (after I get my truck worked on). None of our campers ever needed more than average maintenance in the past.
@@tinaregeneratedlady3476 So sorry to hear that Tina❤️ Nothing like a good partner.
I live in my van in a mostly rural county with a handful of small towns. But I still keep a firearm (actually three) within arms reach. I haven't needed to use one, but there have been people in the area who have been attacked. I'm 71 years old and can't fight or run so thank God for the 2nd.
Thank God for 2a

A gun and shovel with a bag of lime.
It is a different world out there now. I didn't start RVing until after 2020. It can be scary when traveling... So i pray. A LOT! 🙏🙏
Praying works🙏
This was helpful. We not only live, but were born and raised in NYC, so we see and know what you mean. NYC has returned back to 1980’s 1990’s 😢 We are starting our RV life as most timers soon. Leaving the concrete jungle for country roads. As city folks, we are new to RV life, actually new to outdoor life that is outside of our big city. Talk about adventure. We are going to try to vlog our adventures for our family and friends. We have been watching your channel for a long time. Thank you for standing up for God and freedom.
Congratulations and enjoy the adventure! Thank you for your support l. 🙏❤️🇺🇸
RV Tip: (17 years full-timing) Propane use: This holds true whether in a campground or boondocking. Turn OFF the water heater. Plan hot water usage for once per day. Turn ON the water heater only when you PLAN for it. Reason: My Atwood water heater took an hour to heat ten gallons on propane only. During the 24 hour period the heater burned 10 minutes every two hours. That is 2 hours burn-time every 24, after the initial heating, just to KEEP the water hot (three hours burned). I am not even awake during 40 minutes of burn. Better to plan ahead. Using the elec plus propane shortens burn time, but the rate of heat loss would still require a maintenance booster every two hours, so this holds true. Plan Ahead. Turn it OFF.
Note: I used this Plan Ahead idea, using propane to heat water in a campground where each site was individually monitored for elec. The park manager commented that I hardly used any electricity. PS, under the Plan Ahead, I hardly used any propane either.
Awesome Tip Timothy! Thank you
I'm getting out of the metro area where I live as soon as possible. Great message!
You can do it!
Good information out to folks and using humor often. But most important as you said, "Get close to God and Pray"
Absolutely!
I work in mental health. There's policy's in some states where you have to be homeless for 1 year before you get the assistance you need for transitional housing. That means if they couch surf one time they have to start the whole process all over again.
So sad!
You would think having to sleep on someone's couch would still be considered homeless. Unbelievable.
@@tracymatherson8174 politicians and policy makers created this conundrum. I couldn't believe it when I learned about it this year. You wonder why so much squatting occurs.
All done by design...
Trump 2024!
Staying out of cities is really the best advice to give right now.
Regarding credit cars being declined, let the companies know about your traveling, that should clear that up as credit card companies do interstate/international precautions to prevent fraud. I rack up credit card points for extra cash! As far as doing laundry, detegergent/bleach pods are cheaper than buying products at the laundromat, less spillage. Be blessed!
Good tips
For laundry, I use laundry sheets. No spills, take up very little space, very little weight.
I also use the laundry sheets. Been quite pleasantly surprised with them. And they'll never leak and leave a gooey mess.
In Yosemite there are never any bathrooms. My Sisters would die when I said. “ you’re going to run up in the trees and here’s your paper. 😂 OMG That has nothing to do with having an RV. But.. You gotta do what you gotta do. 😊
Gotta do what ya gotta do 🤷♂️
Doo Doo 💩 too, if need be.
Just got back from week at Smoky Mtn National Park…..it’s pretty much same as it was 2,3,5 and 7 years ago. Great people at our campground. Great folks in town nearby. Haven’t had anything but good experiences these past 10 years. Look forward to more!
I absolutely LOVE my 25 ft. Class C. Late husband and I have had Class C's and a Class A. But, always loved the Class C. Like you said can just about go anywhere in this size. I also stay away from large cities. Such good advise for all people who travel.
I totally agree!
The only problem I found with the 25 ft class C is the slide for the bed area. Opted for 32 ft instead and love it. It is a little more difficult to get into some tight spots, but I've not really had a problem. Best part is I can get up at 4am, walk to the front and drive off. 👍
"mark every state"!! Love it!
It’s a good idea 👍
I like you two! We have a campervan and are "sometimers". We avoid cities like the plague. Living in cities is no way to live. It's so far removed from real life. People need to connect with nature/creation and grow their own food for starters.
Our checklists are on computer so we can print them out before each trip.
That’s good
Good idea 👍
Stay safe out there!! Glad you are enjoying being back on the road.
We’re loving it Bob❤️
Put your methods of defense on the list first. I live in Flint Michigan. It's very dangerous out there. I travel the entire state of Michigan everyday. Be aware of your surroundings!!! Most people who see you around towns think you are lost. ❤😂. Absolutely do not wait until the last minute to get the things you are short on. Thanks for sharing I always make sure I have paper maps. May save your life 💖
Stay safe Cat ❤️
Always my friends. ❤️
You guys are the best on RV travel tips. Love your channel and I watch it for learning the "what to do" and "what not to do" issues for safer road travel!!!😊
Ah, the best-case/worst-case planning idea is a good one! Happy travels you two! Keep up the updates.
We will Tim😀
Remember: Google maps lies!! The big old Rand McNally from Walmart is the best map around.
That’s what we use! Rand McNally. It’s Irish book
I couldn't find a rand McNally ANYWHERE last fall. No one carried them any longer, so I ordered mine off internet. Everyone told me they quit carrying them because everyone uses GPS now.
@@Lifeisgreat2023 I bought mine at Walmart back in the Electronics dept earlier this year, but it was $20. It use to be $5.99.
I have found in several areas of the country that we weren't able to get a phone signal, so we bought a GPS off EBay. It saved us several times. We also carry a Rand McNally, and highlight every road we travel on to keep a record of where we have been!
@@jonsiewers4693 That's a great suggestion!!
We bought our 5th during Covid, after watching you for months! We never stop in big cities, we stop before or after (if we have to go there at all). We carry lots of water filters, in different forms and I freeze dry much of the food we take. Thank you for all of your videos over the years, so helpful! ♥
You made my night❤️ Good to know we’ve helped. Hope y’all can make it to Thunder Canyon some day
All good rules. Portable weather radios are another useful tool. The whole reason I never got back to R.V.ing. Was, it was just one thing after another. The place I have, is high in the mountains. Only one way in, or out. Have a great time, all three of you.
High in the mountains is a good place to be Ken
I wanna join you
Loving this only one way in or out idea.
Only thing I'd worry about would be a wild fire 🔥 keeping you from getting out, and being stuck on a limb.
Some of those welcome centers when you enter a state are awesome!
I don't remember what state it was but we were stopping to use the restroom. This Lady put together a bunch of information for our kids. They handed it to use so they could do the activities while we drove through the state.
We do travel nursing and its getting harder and harder to find decent RV parks to stay! Especially where the contracts are good because its the least desirable places to be! High pay equals high crime!!
Stay safe out there
Never considered that, but excellent point!
Love you guys! Stay safe!
❤️❤️❤️
Don't hold back, John. Tell us how you REALLY feel!!😂
It was building up William!
@@RVOddCouple We both know that you can't say what you really think on YT. I know what you're saying though about the cities. We can barely drive around our small town because the homeless are walking in the streets like zombies and won't get out of the way of traffic. It's scary and, because we are in a blue controlled town, the police aren't allowed to do anything about it. Be safe and God go with you!!

Ah Ha!! I knew you guys were preppers!! LOL. Seriously, junk silver is the way to go. And good job having that dry food resource available.

Only one little problem with dry goods...
Mice. 😵💫
@@laurae.4285- Suggestion- I use old cookie tins, popcorn tins, candy tins, etc. In fact, people now know that I use them, so they give me theirs after the cookies and such are all eaten up. The tins are not heavy, and mice can’t get in.

Come, Jesus, come. I want to give my late mother a big hug in the presence of the Almighty. But, let me stay a little and love my wife before that.
You're kinda scaring me. I'm planning a 6 week trip this summer. I plan on staying off the major highways and big cities. I will be unable to bring my "pursuader" since i will be going into Canada to see family. But prayer is my weapon of choice. Joshua 1:9
Prayer is good🙏❤️
Thank you for posting this. You have just helped me decide to just stay home. Being a recent widow with just me and my son now leaves me with no desire to have to do all it takes including the cost and the risk of getting out on the road in what has become more dangerous than any other time in our history.
We tell it like it is. We love RV’ing but everything has changed
@@RVOddCouple I appreciate your honesty.
Great video guys. We sold, gave away, threw away EVERYTHING in 2013 from a 10 ac farm. Went fulltime RV in a 38 ft 5th wheel. It is a completely different world today. We recently downsized to a 20 ft bumper pull. Living space is a little tighter, but our maneuverability is waaaaay better now. Our only certainty is in Jesus Christ.
i used to travel through canada. if you want your credit cards to work, call your card companies and let them know where your traveling ahead of leaving. saves lots of head aches.

Great information thanks guys. I have a 2016 Winnebago View the discontinued G floor plan and am able to go just about anywhere parking is easy. Things have really changed in America I only hope we can get our country back on track.

You hit the nail on the head!!!
I used to mark my territory too. Now i'm kicked out of Walmart produce section
Great tips. Thank you. We live in the outskirts of Albuquerque, NM and really only go into the city for doctor appointments, and such. We love the more rural life. Yes, keep the tank as full as possible, have paper map backups, keep alert, and watch each other's back at rest stops, etc. Always assess your surroundings. Still have fun out in nature but stay safe. Oh yes, occasional 'pee stops' for men and ladies when out of the public eye. When nature calls, sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.
Love the rural life
Good stuff. Do we think things have gotten worse since you "hunkered down" in Thunder Canyon? Yes. But, we think you two have changed even more. At the same time you settled in Alabama, we settled on a ranch between Bison, SD and Hettinger, ND. What you and we found was SANITY, and sane people. And the longer we live here, the more the cities and city folk seem crazy and dangerous. And the more our sanity and clarity returns. God created us to live on Earth in uncrowded countryside. Government herds us into crazy-jammed metropolises. We are glad you are on the road again! Have fun! We have been home for 7 months and need to hit the road too. Also, since diesel is a little less more to carry extra, we do in our pickup bed. We don't let our tank get under 1/2 full for sure. God bless and keep posting!
You can put a vacation travel alert on all of your cards letting them know in advance what states you will be visiting so your card is not declined. I also have alerts on my cards to alert me of every purchase I make so I know immediately if my card is compromised.
That's a great idea!
Just started watching the both of you. You are GREAT!!! God Bless America!
Thank you 😀 God bless you as well🙏
I installed a bed fuel tank. I have 82 gallons. I can got about 800 miles before I have to stop. I plan for being outside the major cities. I also look at crime reports.

A complete off-grid solar system could be huge if things really get bad.....
Whether it's a small system to just keep enough power to stay connected to the outside world or a huge system to run all 3 A/Cs all day long.....
Glad to see u guys RVing again.....
I always bring my weather radar along and know what county you are staying in
We've been RVing for over 30 years now. Definitely have had to adjust to changing times with regards to safery. Doesn't stop us from traveling but much more aware of our surroundings especially when boondocking. Also always monitor " health" of our coach with regular air, oil, transmission checks. We do carry weapons but hope to never use them. Been seeing more crazier drivers that dont like rv'ers but we just let them pass without any incident.
The world is not what it used to be. One of the reasons I went full time. I agree with the points you made. But the most important thing is trust in your Protecter. I have had many 1st year issues and every single time I have learned something from it and God has sent me to exactly the right people to help me and keep me safe. No matter what city. One shop let me plug in for 3 days waiting for parts in their fenced lot and gave me a gate key, let me use their shower, and gifted me a dozen eggs from their chickens. I've had some scary moments as well but my mantra now is "Fear is a lack of Faith." Not that I'm not careful or have means to protect myself. My most important safety measure in my Class C is to just leave. But in order to process your situation effectively you need to stay calm. And God is helping me with that challenge. At the end of the day, it's all up to Him. And He has never let me down. Even when I forgot He was involved. Lol! Not preaching. Just sharing. Never give up on your mission guys. And John keep putting it out there. It's the reason God made you! Thanks to you both. God bless!
We were trying to buy a Ford class B with bed, bath, kitchen. 120k at the time. Three years later. Now I can get it for 65-75k. First warning sign.
Be careful and have an inspection done👍
Suggestion: pickup the most recently published Rand McNally road atlas containing maps for every US State and Canadian province (for those traveling to Canada) for navigation.
Thank you
You are so correct.
Good advice guys. God bless

The difference between urban and rural areas is the meat glue in the fast food. Makes ppl go crazy in countless ways.
If you are not in town and wont be seen by anyone why go inside and waste all that water to flush?
Exactly
You are correct. Before 2020 we never took protection. Now we do but each state has different rules. Illinois is the worst. We could not avoid it on our recent 3,000 friends and family visits.
We avoid IL like the plague
Don’t think you can just go by Red State. A lot of those states have Blue Cities. Places we don’t go to
Good point
There are many blue states, with safer red areas, usually bordering a red state, like MA and NH ..just be aware of surroundings, don't live in fear, as God did not give us a spirit of fear!!
If I read between the lines correctly, I agree with and love everything that you didn’t say , lol. Great message.
There are only two of us traveling, so for dishwashing, hot water to make our French Press coffee or hot tea at night, we just use a tea kettle on the propane stove, or an electric hot pot if at hookups. We rarely fire up the hot water tank. Also, if you have a little left over soapy water from dishes keep it in the dishpan for a quick hand wash (reduces some water use).
Great tips! Thank you
Lots of good advice, I've seen the changes too. I now avoid all medium and large cities due to over abundance of crazy people and crime. Due to gun restrictions in many areas I keep multiple cans of Wasp & Hornet Spray on hand for self defense. Just aim for the eyes. Highly effective on both 2 and 4 legged threats, stopping them in their tracks without killing them. Never letting fuel or water get below half of what your rig can carry is a practice that's saved many lives, could save yours if things go bad. And remember Cash is always King when you need something. Accounts get hacked or frozen, electronic payments don't work when the grid is down. Yet there is always someone ready to take a cash payment.
Any and all of the above, could be the difference between being a survivor, or a statistic. Most Importantly, Always Trust Your Gut. Even if you don't understand why, if something feels wrong, you don't want any part of what's coming.
In the areas where John has marked his territory....the bears keep their distance.
🤣😂🤣🤷♂️
I always plan and route from the gas station I just fueled up at to the next gas station that I will be at a 1/2 of a tank at.

Hi Ed & Lucy❤️❤️❤️
It would have been a clincher for me, if you had shown, in succession, 5 or so video clips from different states depicting the homless conditions you describe. In fact, this gives me a good idea for a video. Thank you very much Odd Couple.
A real down to earth video. Thanks. We keep our tanks full too. And we make sure to have tire changing tools. Even if you can’t do the work, having the tools means someone else can help! Be cautious and that goes a long way.
