Banger of a shoe... 2 things, break them in, couple 5ks then a couple of 10ks then went for a longer tempo effort... im sure like most it takes more than a couple of runs to get that lacing fit dialed in, they are an absolute baller of a shoe... getting better with everyrun, that eva bottom now tenderised a little... very addictive daily trainer!
I found that if you fold the achilles heel flap down around the back of the shoe, that seems to help with reduced rubbing. All this said, I've really enjoyed the Mach X 2. It's a shoe that is super rewarding to run fast in but one that also feels good when needing to slow the pace down. Great review as always!
I had issues with heel rubbing when I first got them and did a 5 K but didn't have a blister. I bought those pads you can get for high heels and stuck it in the back and was able to get the 10 miles in with no issues!
Appreciate you flagging the heel straight out of the gate. I really wanted to buy this shoe when it came out, but just cannot risk blowing up a training cycle with that heel design. Hopefully v3 will just be an upper update.
Shoe brand of the year for me. Skyward X, Cielo X1, and now Mach X2. I got my Mach X2 on release day and haven't had a single issue with the heel. It's what a "super trainer" should strive to be. Great at slow pace, with extra gears for higher pace, while being lightweight and comfy.
Hoka tried to make this version more like a racing shoe, which explains why they omit the padding around the ankle collar to save weight. They overlooked the potential rubbing and irritation some runners have experienced running in this shoe. Hopefully they fix this flaw in the next version.
Have to tell you that this shoe is just plain awesome. My running feels explosive in it and I’ll probably race in it (over my endorphin pros😮)! Heel is not an issue and they are stable for me (a need). For most runners I think it may just be taking the time to put these on at the heel- probably not a slower paced heel strikers best shoe - but I am a heel striker and the get you onto your forefoot FAST. Love them and chose them over Superblasts.
Another excellent review, Emily 🔥❤ I’ve never worn Hoka shoes but this looks good to me. Great choice of music for your run footage by the way 👌🏼 Oh and I’ve recently seen some of your posts on Instagram…I’m a massive basketball fan and have followed the Knicks / Liberty for a number of years. Loving your dedication to the Libs! 😍 Keep doing what you do 🙏🏻
i dont get who run tests these shoes and doesn't come back to Hoka with these problems during production, literally every single review has said the same problem with the heel so I don't know how they don't pick up on something like that during production
I used to love Hokas, the old Vanquish were a pre-supershoe favourite, but now they all seem to have those really high instep orthotic style supports that cause me enormous pain.
Ran a 10K race in these and they were fab, felt like I was gliding and they made me want to run fast! Had no heel issues thanks to using ultralight Balega socks and heel lock lacing, but it is a bit odd to have to compensate for this problem in an expensive shoe.
Did my first run in them this morning. It’s a great ride, but started feeling some irritation near the end. I’m going to see if some KT tape helps out or they may end up going back. Shoe is sooooo close to being an absolute banger.
Bougth this excited to have a training partner with my beloved Cielo X1...cut my heel up 2 miles in. Sadly had to send it back. LOVED the ride. Hate the heel.
Thanks for the review I agree with you on the heal I prefer padded one all around from the video I haven't seen them in person heal looks flimsy I could be wrong. You think the upper will hold up?. And hi ruby
Great review...I love the level and quality of advice, and I have to say that after all the negative comments I've seen on the heel issue, thanks to your review I AM going to test them, anyways.
What do you think about the toe box and performance when compared to the new balance SC trainer v2 vs Hoka Mach x2 or can you do a video on the two I’m a heavier runner and looking for a good race day should with a wide fit
Same. Wanted to save some money, but had to go with the Cielo x1. It's puzzling to me how the heels are similar, yet the mach x2 heel is messed up. It's like did not position those heel pads correctly.
Very curious to see the V3 sample in December - Gen 2 could be the killer for this model / series. Customers don't even ask what the price is, b/c they don't even approach the thought of purchasing it. SUPERBLAST sales versus MachX2. ---->> 110:1 in the last 15 days.
I'm one of those 110 people And just like the name suggests, the ride is super, and I'm having a blast running in them. The new black color release is 🔥
If weight saving was the goal with that minimalist heel collar, they shouldve just reshape the midsole outer design to look less bulky, at the gain of more comfort.
Watch out for your legs - your inner foot pronates while running (especially on the right side), it’s very obvious. You either need insoles or shoes with more support/stability.
The heel has been horrible for me. But I love the fit and midsole of the shoe, I’m trying to figure out solutions to the blister situation. Ordered some heel pads to see if that’ll help. If not, I’ll unfortunately return them for something else.
@@ramirezsmith9791Anatomically our feet are vary in shapes, volumes and lengths. Just because some runners experience heel rubbing, doesn’t mean you’ll have the ordeal.
@@ramirezsmith9791 unfortunately I tried them on and they felt great, but after a couple of miles in them, that’s when you start to notice a bad heel rub. So this isn’t rocket science right???? These designers must know how to make heels and ankle padding!?!? Why is there so often one thing that doesn’t work right?

KT tape on the Achilles Tendon. ❤

Absolutely agree. IDK why they always try to save weight in the upper. They give you a monster stack of foam and a flimsy upper.
This or the Cielo X1 that I just bought? 😢
Just tried them both today. Both shoes have a great midsole. But the heel on the mach x2 is soooo bad. I went with the Cielo.

That’s my concern as well. Some say they’re having heal issues and some are not! Need to try them on first.

Maybe they're just raising prices.
How did the idiots at Hoka come to agreement on this heel counter?
Maybe the testers they have running in this shoe didn’t have the heel rubbing issue, so they finalized it as a releasable model.
