    Speaking as a solidly midfoot striker and very light weight runner, the Mach 6 was an extremely fun and versatile trainer. I used it for everything from slow, easy runs to double-digit long runs, and it was responsive enough to use for up-tempo running as well. It was also quite durable and I wore it to death for a combination of about 250 miles of running plus too many additional miles of walking. The upper still looked brand new when I retired it. It’s the only HOKA I loved that much and while I haven’t yet replaced it with the same shoe, I happily could have and still might.

      I agree. But I really wore mine to death. 1000kms (625 miles) and they didn’t start feeling dead until 850km in.

    Time to get the discounted Mach X then! As a mostly budget runner, getting previous iteration that is still considered good and close to the newest version is the only way to keep running well without much (if any) sacrifice at all

      @@EdwinPohan They’re not comparable. The X2 almost has a different design philosophy from the X1. Two totally different experiences. You might find that the X1 leans on the side of comfort while the X2 leans on the side of speed.

      @@landaring But in this case, it’s not a matter of buying Gen A because Gen B isn’t an improvement. They’re totally different shoes, so it’d still be worth it to give the Mach X2 a try if you feel like it serves a spot in your rotation. I personally wouldn’t buy the X for the types of runs the X2 serves me.

    I got my Mach X2 last week and I have already put about 60 km in it. I love the feel of the midsole at any pace in between marathon and half marathon for me. Anything too slow feels a bit clunky. Love the shoe, I will use it for my upcoming marathon!

    My experiences are the opposite of Kofuzi quite often it seems lol I'm a bigger 200lb runner so maybe part of it. Love love this shoe at all paces actually and it fits me perfectly with little to no heel issue. I've tried so many of the top shoes and this along with skyward x also from Hoka have been fantastic. Among my two favs this year. Really haven't enjoyed Hoka for some years now but they're killing it lately.

  • @RyKnocks
    @RyKnocks День тому +10

    Have had the Mach X2 since release day and it's an amazing shoe. Despite its race trim construction, it still feels good at slow paces. Not sure what Kofuzi means about the lack of bounce, because this shoe has plenty of it. I think it's the "training trim" version of the Cielo X1 as it presents a lot of similar qualities. Maybe it really doesn't suit his foot strike, but it's plenty bouncy, light, and quick, while still feeling good at easy pace. Great all around shoe that trends on the quicker end.

    • @strawberry_iced_donut
      @strawberry_iced_donut День тому +2

      Like he said in the video. What might not work for him may very well work for others. Running styles is very different for everyone so his way may not be condusive of the bounce you are talking about while your running style may allow the bounce to manifest. If everyone had the same foot and running style, we don't need a variety of shoes.

    • @RyKnocks
      @RyKnocks День тому +5

      @@strawberry_iced_donut Right. The reason for my comment is to let people know that there’s plenty of bounce/crumple/energy return in the shoe. The video almost puts a negative shine on the shoe altogether. It’s no knock on Kofuzi, but it’s a pretty great shoe despite him not even granting a place for it in the Hoka rotation at the end.

    excellent overview.., thank you for addressing the overlap between a lot of shoes, in not only the Hoka line, but many shoe brands.
    I feel that some of these shoe brands could be not only more efficient, but could better serve the consumer, by not making it so confusing with so many shoes. Heck they (shoe brands), say that most of the ppl that purchase these running shoes, don't use them for running.

    I love this shoe. This one gets the majority of my harder training days to go along with the Skyward X as my recovery shoe. I will maybe throw something in for shorter distance intervals, but this can handle that as well if needed. I've got some races to close out the year, and I've considered using this for some of them (don't worry, no one is concerned about me placing in an "illegal" shoe).

    I also see this as an easy choice for many to race in. Isn't it as light or lighter than the Cielo x 1? A cheaper race day option that would work quite well for many. Protective and fast. It could be a trainer and racer and also for me works for slower paces so versatile. When you consider all that the price all of a sudden seems quite good. I think it's a possible shoe of the year for those that don't have any issues with the heel. I don't think I'm crazy so think that from many reviews I've come across as well as my own experience.

      I don't disagree. I just personally prefer the Mach 6 in each dimension you described.
      But for those for whom the Mach 6 may be too unstable or too soft, the Mach X2 could certainly be a great race day option. that person would also likely have a completely different preferred Hoka rotation than I do.

    Hi Mike, thanks a lot for your review! This is exactly what I'm thinking if Magic Speed 4 or Mach X2. I love SKy Paris, this is my best racing shoe, better for me that Vaporfly 3, also love Superblast, Superblast is the king of supertrainers in my opinion. so Asics seems like company of the year :) That's why I'm maybe more leaning towards MGS4. IS that better for speed workouts than Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 as well? I loved ES3, byt version 4 seems to me less propulsive than version 3 and I think ES 2 was the best fit to wokrouts/tempo compared to later version 3 and now version 4. So looking for something instead of Saucony ES4. :) Thanks a lot.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  День тому

      I prefer the Endorphin Speed 4 to the Magic Speed 4, but I agree that I wish the Endorphin Speed 4 had a bit more pop to it. And as far as your rotation goes, I'd still go with the Endo Speed 4 and then reach for the Metaspeed Sky Paris for workouts that need it.

    As a runner with marathon goal time is 4.00-4.25 hours, I am unsure I will get a full benefit of supershoes/racing shoe. Instead, I look for Supertrainer for my marathon, so I more excited to see the reviews of this range/class of shoe. Since X2 is too expensive for me (and yes, with the same price tag, I think I will look for another shoe), I got discounted price Mach X for about $127, so far so good for me, not as fast as Boston 12 or Endorphin Speed 3, but I feel it will be good enough for Marathon.
    Also tried Mach 6 in the store, and I instantly knows why people love that shoe, might be will be on my list for the when the next iteration out.

    I bought X2 especially for the marathon (Warsaw). I have Pumas with carbon, but they seem too hard for such a distance and Novablast 3, but that's for slow runs. After 35 km @ 4:49 (first easy run) I don't feel a nice return of energy in the shoes, I have the impression that the cushioning absorbs everything. We'll see what happens on acceleration, I hope it improves, because otherwise it's money down the drain :/
