Kool Aid Kids is so much deeper than the title suggests at first glance. I think it's up there with XXI Century Blood as far as powerful, deep meaning lyrics go. "Hey you, Kool-Aid kids, there's a traitor in our midst. Somebody's got a mind of their own" Think for yourself and don't just drink the kool aid being poured for you.

Kool Aid Kids, Z, and Disciple are some of the sharpest social commentary I've ever seen in music. It's really easy to write a protest song but it's a lot more mature to recognize the dangers of radicalism and mob mentality.

  • @FlashGeiger
    @FlashGeiger 6 місяців тому +40

While the term "Drink the kool aid" references the Jonestown mass suicide, the phrase has come to mean falling to any group think to your own detriment. I see this song as calling out any form of coercive conformity.

Fun prediction: TW will achieve massive success as a band, reaching legendary status in the world of Rock. Then, they will go their separate ways, perhaps to start families. Pau will continue with a successful solo career as a singer/composer. Once they are seasoned veterans, they will reunite and tour the world simply for enjoyment! I hope to live many years just as them to witness that! :D

@@AreliMusiK that's alot to digest. As band's member's get older it's harder for a band to be as committed. Family etc. takes some of the priorities. They either breakup or just get together less often. As far as popularity being the best doesn't always mean the most popular. Their popularity has certainly grown alot. But I don't know where it will end up. Different world musicly then it was

Don, I majored in economics and could have been an accountant, too, but I ran from that role because it doesn't give my creative side any energy. Ale has a great voice and can sing/has sung lead, but would rather not sing lead at this point. Maybe one day she'll have to do it for more than a few songs, and decide she likes it. Or maybe she'll be inspired to write a song that only she can express the way she wants it expressed. We can hope.

"Z" the show opener refers to "Kool Aid Kid" - "Kool Aid Kid" is another song where TW urge their fans to think for themselve, like "Disciple" and "XXI Century Blood". There are no bad song in their catalog - the last song you hear from them is your favorite until the next one and the next one.

It is not just the fact that they are masters of their individual instruments, or the fact that they write their own music and lyrics. They honestly love what they are doing. Yes, they are masters at creating great music, but they live for their on stage interaction with their fans. No band has ever had such a love and appreciation for their followers than do these three young ladies. All three of them sing, and they harmonize like no other rock band ever has. Their vocals are literally what gives them the edge over all other power trios that has ever existed! The Warning are destined to dominate the world of music for as long as they choose to do so.
    LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS!

it's my belief that they, especially Pau and Ale, were so young, and the immature brain is so malleable , it can, and does learn so readily, that their instruments are, indeed, extensions of themselves. Dany, being that important couple of years older may have had a slightly tougher time.. i. as many others have said, am SO proud of them..and mom and dad?? just WOW!

They just don't miss do they? I hear so many bits in their songs that remind me of 80's/90's rock. Love them! Their guitar sound is so good.
I was just thinking given your love of drumming you really should do a showcase (or reaction if you haven't seen that version) of Sultans of Swing (alchemy live) one day. I mean the whole thing is one of the best live performances ever but also quite possibly the best live drumming performance I've ever seen.

    • @MrSudeepdas
      @MrSudeepdas 5 місяців тому

      Good suggestion 👍
Although I like the studio version better as far as drumming is concerned. Terry Williams made it too busy compared to Pick Withers' recorded version.
My point of view is from the The Warning angle - its all about the song; whatever instrumentation is necessary to make a song work; nothing extra.

I know that Im a stan so my opinion doesn't hold too much weight, and well... yeah it's just my opinion.
But this is one of the most impressive songs in all of music over the past decade. It's a unique song that sadly isn't appreciated enough by TWA.
The groove is dark, sinister yet still very funky. The lyrics are some of the darkest lyrics penned.
To better illustrate what I mean by "dark": Some lyrics from other artists are like a horror film (specially in the metal world and all of its flavours). They're gruesome and hit you in the head with violence. This isn't that. This is a slow burn atmospheric thriller, that doesn't shock you with scare jumps or violence. But instead it keeps you in suspense and it seems like you're no longer breathing due to the tension.
This song is holding the mirror to society, it's mocking our cruelty and how easily we can be manipulated. The song builds and builds until the final choir as they all sing in unison. It's never let's down or slows down, it only amplifies and reinforces it's message.
    Dat groove tho.

And that masterpiece of a metaphor by Pau - "I need your daily poisoning".
When we think about it, the person we love, seeps into our soul each moment. Everyday we look forward to him/her eagerly. Like a "poison" we imbibe their existence on a daily basis.
Unbelievable maturity from a 14 year old girl. Never heard love being described like this before.
      Worth a Nobel.

Oh, we’ve suggested this one. Remember waaay back in the beginning when we said: “EVERYTHING!” & “just pull up Metropolitan theater & press play” 😂
But seriously, their catalog is (soon to be) 60-songs in a top 5 list. ‘Z’ & ‘Kool Aid Kids’ get overlooked. ‘ERROR’ doesn’t get the ‘AMOUR’ it deserves😉 & that’s just 1 album. Queen of the Murder Scene counts as 1 recommendation the entire album is just that good. & XXI Century. Blood … there’s not a skippable song on that one either. ‘Wildfire’, ‘Runaway’ & ‘Rivers Soul’ often get overlooked in recommendations as well. & of course there’s the EP. Speaking of, have you done any Liceo videos yet? Well, there’s a recommendation right there! 😊.

The Warning are playing a show in Japan with BAND-MAID in the summer. Both bands are big mutual fans of each other and met at a US Festival. Everything you said about The Warning in your intro, you can multiply by at least 5 for BAND-MAID - the way they 'rock', their obvious enjoyment on stage, their live shows being where they shine brightest (without casting any shadow on how good their studio recordings are), the musicianship, the bass, the drums....
Try 'Hate?' from their Yokohama Arena 10th anniversary finale but be prepared to be blown away.

i know many do understand the reference to "drinking the kool-aid" but i'm going to post this for those that do not know or understand it...
from wikipedia since it has the easiest to understand description of what "Drinking the Kool-Aid" means:
""Drinking the Kool-Aid" is an expression used to refer to a person who believes in a possibly doomed or dangerous idea because of perceived potential high rewards. The phrase typically carries a negative connotation. It can also be used ironically or humorously to refer to accepting an idea or changing a preference due to popularity, peer pressure, or persuasion. In recent years, it has evolved further to mean extreme dedication to a cause or purpose, so extreme that one would "drink the Kool-Aid" and die for the cause."
basically *Kool-Aid Kids* is about people believing everything that someone or some group tells them... they believe it so much that they blindly follow along with everything the group says and does... even to their detriment and downfall... this is known as "drinking the kool-aid"...
irony: TWA absolutely drink the DPA/TW kool-aid 😜😹
this is one of DPA/TW's songs about social media and how it affects people in ways they don't even know... *XXI Century Blood* and *Disciple* are two other fantastic original DPA/TW songs in this same vein... their song *Z* references this song in one of its verses, too... the first two of these have OMVs that depict hard hitting stories that are true in so many ways... if you haven't seen them yet, they are well worth the watch...

Red, I’m so glad you got to this song. One of my favorite TW songs of all time. Biting social commentary couched in a heavy, delicious rock groove. Try Queen of the Murder Scene (QOTMS), bearing in mind that it is part of a concept album of the same name telling a specific story, of which the song QOTMS is one of the climactic moments. I would recommend their Metropolitan Theater performance of it, the same concert as this Kool Aid Kids performance. P.S.: IMO, you’ve been part of The Warning Army for some time now. P.P.S.: In a nutshell, the QOTMS album storyline is: unrequited love leads to obsession leads to murder leads to madness. Intense; I know.

No, I don't think they are referencing Jonestown directly, but rather the modern meme version of 'drinking the koolaid', which I expect most people these days don't even know where it came from. But yeah, it is a bit of a savage song.

Without actually speaking about Jim Jones they are referring to blindly drinking the Kool-Aid, or blindly following a crowd without thinking for themselves.

It blows my mind that 3 sisters from Mexico composed one of the most profound metaphorical songs in rock, using a quintessentially American phrase. Assuming KAK was written in 2019-20, Ale was about 15 when she wrote this bassline that gets melodious in the middle. It requires multiple listening. Really don't know why fans are not into this song. Too profound maybe?
Wiki has this to say -
"Drinking the Kool-Aid" is most strongly believing and accepting in a deadly, deranged, or foolish ideology or concept based only upon the overpowering coaxing of another; the expression is also used to refer to a person who wrongly has faith in a possibly doomed or dangerous idea because of perceived potential high rewards. The phrase typically carries a negative connotation. It can also be used ironically or humorously to refer to accepting an idea or changing a preference due to popularity, peer pressure, or persuasion. In recent years, it has evolved further to mean extreme dedication to a cause or purpose, so extreme that one would "drink the Kool-Aid" and die for the cause.
While use of the phrase dates back to 1968 with the nonfiction book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test[citation needed], it is strongly associated with the events in Jonestown, Guyana, on November 18, 1978, in which over 900 members of the Peoples Temple movement died. The movement's leader, Jim Jones, called a mass meeting at the Jonestown pavilion after the murder of U.S. Congressman Leo Ryan and others in nearby Port Kaituma. Jones proposed "revolutionary suicide" by way of ingesting a powdered drink mix made from Flavor Aid (later misidentified as Kool-Aid) that was lethally laced with cyanide and other drugs.[1][2]

Red I don't think it references the event but it references the term as it evolved in pop culture. Drink the Koolaid; just trust me and do as you're told. As others have said below it's about thinking for yourself and not just drinking the Koolaid.

They are referencing a phrase that references an event. “Don’t Drink the Kool Aid”. Don’t fall for the lies. Use your coconut & don’t follow the crowd. ‘Disciple’ part 2.
