It might be not your thing. A good song is a song that a lot of people like and some do not like it. If everybody likes it. It is mainstream. Joost is himself and this is his style. Love it. Go Joost.

This song has quite some background. Joost lost his dad at 12 years old. His mother died a year later. His father told him that the world/europe has no borders. But where ever you go the pain of missing loved ones will always stay with you.
He promised his dad to one day be at the Eurovision.
One of the lines is "I've lost everything, except time".
At the end he shows how his happy childhood got distroyed.
But he ends with the promise to his father.
The music at the end is called Happy Hardcore. A very famous sound from the Netherlands.

This song plus video is a masterpiece, trust me on this one. Its not jumpstyle nor techno. Its 100% Dutch happy hardcore. The song has many references to our country and to Europe and to his life. You might not like the style, but you have to admit, it is uplifting af, and will guarantee a party at Eurovision. The end is not meant to be sad. The burning house refers to letting your past go and move on. He sings about being able to see anyone (in Europe, or even his dad?) without a visum. I think its freaking beautiful. The jury might not like it, but it will be the people's choice, you'll see. Never have i been more proud (well, EC soccer '88) to be Dutch. Happy hardcore at Eurovision (who would have thought), letsgooooo Joost goat, denk groot!

This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is happy hardcore - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, also called gabber music. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.

I'm Dutch and I'm still confused too. But I think that is one of the wonderful things about this song. It has so many layers even though it pretends to be a simple happy hardcore.

    {Lo sentimos, este mensaje se está traduciendo con Google Translate}

Just a tip, before you start to listen and get hooked: try lyrics [subtitles are available], and see the disconnect between those and the vibe and then value it as it is: a piece of art in a song.

Id you review and have the possibility to use subtitles why rate a song without understanding the lyrics or reading into the message. Even the musicgenres you mention are off..12 points❤

    {Sorry, this message is being translated using Google Translate}
    (Background story of the song)
This is what Joost Klein wants to convey with this song: “'Europapa' is a tribute to my father.
The song is a letter I wrote to my father, who died when I was a teenager."
'Europapa' is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and surrounding areas) to find himself and tell his story.
My father gave me a broad view of the world.
    Boundaries are made by people,
but my father told me that you can also set boundaries yourself by thinking out of the box.
At first people didn't know me,
but I continue to take every opportunity to show myself.
    When people see my act,
the first response should be, “What's going on here?”
and then at the end it touches people and makes them think.
'Europapa' initially seems like a very cheerful act,
but once behind that lies a deeper message.
