From the first time I started using any colour medium, I have always made single colour charts and kept them in binders as you do. When I joined an art group this past year, I was surprised that only 2 other members did even basic testing. I don't think it is a coincidence that the 3 of us who did this are better painters. I did the mixing of colours out of sheer curiosity after seeing how many additional colours you can get. This can save money on paint!

Thankyou Michelle from tropical north Australia. Our greens in the sea match your teals. Viridian is a bright unnatural green but useful when mixed with blues such as cerulean in the light reflecting through waves on the beach as they curl and break. Another green I use is quinacridone gold and ultramarine blue for our distant mountains covered with Aussie bush. It makes a dull heat green, which our eucalypts display ( blue gums). This was and interesting demo. Never thought of using Pthalo green with anything. It tends to get left aside. Will try it with others now. Thankyou again.

Thanks for this greens series after your video on the different petals. This is really great info.
I've heard from an instructor that phthalo green (pg7) mixes alot like a blue and it sure looks like that's true when looking at how you got that purple color mixing it with quin rose. I was expecting a more brownish purple because of the "green," but it acted like a blue instead.

green is my absolute favorite color so i'll admit, i have more than a few on my palette, but unless i'm doing a fantasy illustration they mostly get used as mixing colors. have you ever tried Phthalo Green Blue Shade (PG7) with Dioxazine Purple (PV23)? three different kind of cones in the retina of the human eye. The "green" and "red" cones are mostly packed into the fovea centralis. By population, about 64% of the cones are red-sensitive, about 32% green sensitive, and about 2% are blue sensitive. The "blue" cones have the highest sensitivity and are mostly found outside the fovea.
Green is a primary color, because of evolution. Monkeys and Orang Utan (and primitive human) lived in forest, and the sensitivity towards Green is a pre-requisite.
(I subscribed to the 4 primary colors hypothesis, i think MUnsell colour system give a big weightage towards GREEN)
