My favorite word is “because” and you use it A LOT in your videos. Excellent! If it doesn’t make sense to me it’s most likely not going to happen. Keep using it....A LOT 😁🦜
As in several of your videos, I've watched this one before, and I am still picking up things that I missed before, or forgot, or I wasn't paying attention. I like your step by step instruction. It really helps.
I've reviewed this tree painting video more than once. I find that every time I think my skill has developed (a little) I learn something I missed the last time I viewed the video. I think this is the 3rd time I've reviewed this lesson and I'm happier with my tree than last time
I can hardly believe how quickly my painting skills have improved in only a short time by watching your tutorials and applying them. Thank you so much!
Thank you very very much. I’m not an artist but I enjoy painting with watercolor. Your videos are awesome. I’m going to watch more of them, probably more than once. Then practice. Again thank you ❤️
My trees have ALWAYS looked like a kiddie drawing 😂 I've just picked up watercolor and you are teaching me so much... Thank you for taking the time to teach the basics such as this ❤
Love this vid, my son and i are just trying to learn watercolour and drawing, we spoke of trees just the other day when he was here. Strange how your video popped up today. I'm going to share it with him and then we can compare notes of how each other gets along. I love watching you teach, you have a lovely relaxed, and have a knack for making one feel how you can achieve beautiful pieces. Thank you so much. X Trish xx
Thank you, that is so helpful, you are an excellent teacher. It’s so refreshing to find someone who shows fantastic techniques as opposed to a copy them tutorial
I love your tree! I always thought I had to add the sky in bits between clumps of foliage…tedious! Your suggestion to start with a light blue wash makes so much sense!
I have learned much from your videos. I never thought I would be able to paint. I am a disabled civil engineer so I’ve been working with the other side of the brain. Boring. I always give you a “like” because I always learn something valuable. I am actually surprised to see so many comments because it always feels like you’re just talking to me!😅
I definitely enjoyed this step by step tree video. Now I understand why my trees didn’t ever look right. They were too straight. I’m going to try trees again thanks to your video showing me how. Thank you so much for this video🤗
I loved your video. I am a beginner and wanted to paint lovely trees but I did not know how. These tips really make a difference! Thank you for sharing.
Hi from Oregon! Our landscapes are very similar to yours. My favorite tree is the mighty oak so this is fun to do. I appreciate the lesson pointing out erasing the middle sections to create the illusion of gaps in the tree. I also use the stipple effect for the pines I draw from my old acrylic #2 brush. I like the colors mixing into each other on the paper. I learned that in one of your previous videos so it’s something I will try out. Thanks for the video.🦜
Very useful as I’ve arrived at trees & foliage on your course so, before progressing I watched the great tree video, thanks for the tips! Now back to work!
Terrific video. I learned so much about the branches, and appreciate the pointers about mixing colors. You are a very talented teacher and artist. I like that your videos are so well organized and to the point without a lot of unnecessary chatter. Thanks a lot!
Just "found" this video after watching your more recent on beginner subjects. Much appreciated! I live in the mountains surrounded by trees, and still overwork and struggle with the shapes.
Needed this video. I especially appreciated the tip to erase part of the limbs or branches. All excellent tips however, as they asnwered some of the unwanted results I've gotten. Thank you!
I can’t begin to tell you how you have saved my sanity during this Covid madness. I only decided at age 60 plus, and forced to stay at home more, that I braved attempting watercolor, though it has always fascinated me. My new daily routine is wake up, clean up, coffee, then watching and trying your ever so helpful instruction. I will never be great perhaps but I’m loving it, and color theory is also fascinating. I see the world through different eyes now. I love your style of instruction. I am slowly creating my own “wallpaper” with my attempts, lol. New focus for this old bird in her retirement years. Thank you!
Really needed this video. Working on my own with no class members or teachers per se, my biggest problem as a complete novice without any brush work, my need is how to work with brushes!
Ah ha! I’ve been adding the wide base at the tree trunk, but not applying that same technique to the branches. I now understand the straight line issue and why my trees never looked realistic. Thank you!
Trees are one of my favourite subjects if not my favourite. Here in Canada on the Westcoast, it rains a lot so you will find trees with moss growing on the bark. I never knew about leaving gaps in the branches before, thank you for your tutorial. I always find and learn something new. Maybe one day you can show me how to paint moss.
I just took a photograph of a tree that I want to paint. I’m a beginner with some talent, but no training. I enjoy your straightforward approach, your step-by-step tutorials and your sense of humor LOL. I found that the most important thing you said had to do with leaving gaps between the leaves. That will help deter me from overworking it. Thank you for posting. 🌵💙
Thanks for the step by step tutorial. Fairly new to watercolors, I have struggled with the definition of leaves. I particularly loved the tip for erasing part of the branches for gaps in the trees....and adding darker shadows to the center. You always get to the point in an organized manner that I truly appreciate. Loved this video.
Very helpful techniques Michele. I especially appreciate your ideas on color mixing for getting the natural browns and greens plus erasing the gaps on the branches. It’s a joy to watch you paint allowing the colors to blend on the paper. Laa-Laa! 😆
Yes, this was really helpful! I've painted trees before but only really far away ones and with a pretty simple dabbing technique. Now I'm ready to paint them close up but not every technique seems realistic enough to me, but this one does. I'll probably get to use my fun wisp, fan and sawtooth brushes. I also have this one brush I love. Its like a round brush with the tip cut off at a bit of an angle. So it makes these wonderful shapes when I dab with it. Like round shapes but with ragged edges. It was so cheap but its my best friend now!
I live in the Pacific Northwest in the US, we have beautiful rainforests with towering evergreens. These evergreens are beautiful year round and especially in the winter with snow on the branches. Could you add how to create evergreen trees too.
The tutorial has been very helpful for me, especially the colour mixing - thank you Michele! I have the same cat statue as yours, it's an Egyptian cat, Bast 🐈
Oh, wow, thank you. My partner was about to throw it out so I rescued it and put it in my studio. Its ear is chipped, I will paint the little mark out :-)
I'm just beginning watercolor, and I'm going through your videos. This one is really helpful, as I lean toward painting natural settings. I've been a nature photographer for years, and I am loving learning about watercolor. Your videos about paint are eye opening!
Saw a most wonderful tree this evening. No place to pull over with the narrow road that had a sharp turn ahead. It is a live oak twisted and gnarly probably hundred years or more old. Tree around here aren’t really tall but shorter fat and limbs start close to the ground. Aaaargh! I keep seeing wonderful sights but no place to pull over to snap pictures!
Another great video. I found your channel a few months ago when I started my watercolor journey and glad I did. You’ve been a great help. Thank you 🙏!!

instaBlaster...
Thank you so much, this helped me understand the process and has improved my ability to paint trees. I enjoy you lessons very much.
My favorite word is “because” and you use it A LOT in your videos. Excellent! If it doesn’t make sense to me it’s most likely not going to happen. Keep using it....A LOT 😁🦜
Awesome! Thank you!
You do such a great job of explaining how branches grow by straight lines and then kinks rather than curves everywhere! Thanks.
No problem Beth!
As a beginner I found all of the tips useful. Simple and underwhelming. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
As in several of your videos, I've watched this one before, and I am still picking up things that I missed before, or forgot, or I wasn't paying attention. I like your step by step instruction. It really helps.
Thanks I'm hoping to do more this year!
I've been painting trees for years but your never to good to learn from others thankyou x
You’re welcome 😊
My favorite Michele Webber video of all, although they are all great!
Wow, thank you!

Who would not like this vid? I love your tree! 😁🌳🌴🌲
Thanks so much!
I appreciate that you spoke about the colors for the trunk and branches and what colors can be mixed to get the sepia color.
Thank you. I'm a beginner. Learned so much about painting branches
Yes, this was very helpful for me to understand why I never liked the way I painted trees. I feel like I can rectify that now. Thank you so much!!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much, that was the most informative video for natural looking trees.....never was satisfied with mine,,,,.
You are very welcome
Very helpful. Michele is very knowledgeable and takes enough time to explain everything she is doing. Great teacher!
Thank you very very much. I’m not an artist but I enjoy painting with watercolor. Your videos are awesome. I’m going to watch more of them, probably more than once. Then practice. Again thank you ❤️

Because you demonstrate the WRONG way before the correct way, makes everything so much clearer!!!😊
I'm so glad!
Best tutorial I’ve seen yet. Thank you
Wow, thanks!
Excellent video as usual. Painting trees always was a scary thing for me. Not anymore. X
Thank you! Cheers!

Just "found" this video after watching your more recent on beginner subjects. Much appreciated! I live in the mountains surrounded by trees, and still overwork and struggle with the shapes.
Mountains are surprisingly difficult for such simple shapes!
Thank you, these techniques work for oil, acrylic, gouache, too.

Like your video very much. The color theory are very interesting!
Thank you very much!
This was very helpful to me. I have a bit of a problem getting trees right.
A good tip for drawing this type of tree is 1 third trunk and 2 thirds top paint wise light to dark always.
Thankyou, your tutorials are very helpful.
Glad you like them!

Yes, that's a great idea, we only have a few here in my part of the UK, usually grown commercially.
Thanks
