Actually Toothless was born with two tail flaps. That’s how he could fly at the start of the movie, when he was attacking the village. When Hiccup shot him down, somehow one of the tail flaps got cut off so he couldn’t fly anymore
@@Uta_Chandra.Hsame here but at the same time I understand, I get it, humans are kind of a sucky species, I'm Pagan and believe in the fay and dragons and that thousands of years ago they did live in harmony with humans but humans started to realize they could use them to gain money or items and started to use them for their own gain and so the creatures had to hide themselves behind the veil to protect themselves from humans. How To Train Your Dragon is a perfect trilogy in my opinion. I think about it a lot. The team behind the films poured their heart and soul into these projects, and respected the community of fans that built around the HTTYD world with each new movie.
Toothless isn't weak. He was injured when Hiccup captured him in the beginning. He lost part of his tail which made him unable to fly on his own. I'm sure he was in pain in the beginning too which made it hard to care for himself while healing.
Probably the best DreamWorks movie to watch in 3D. Mainly because of the flying scenes. A great movie with great animation, great characters, and a great story! This is definitely DreamWorks' Toy Story in terms of quality.
The last one (3rd) is amazing and it fully reduced me to tears. The music stays amazing through the whole franchise but Test Fight (when hiccup is first flying toothless) will forever be my favorite theme
I love this series; thanks for reacting to it. Hiccup took a part of Toothless when he shot him down, and Toothless took a part of Hiccup when he caught him up. Great symmetry.
"Is this dragon the weakest?" "Is this a Nightfury?" "It's born with a missing wing?" "Why is it flying drunk?" Maybe if you paid attention you'd know.
to be fair it wasn't until the second movie that i realised toothless lost his tail wing when hiccup took him down; also hiccup just thought he hit a night fury -- it doesn't really confirm right away that that *is* what happened. Also, after he's first released, we don't yet know he can't fly; so really all Billy's questions were valid. Bring your comments elsewhere if you're just gonna criticise (you're just boosting his engagement anyway)

@@logandupay9596 Well I would like to say that the How To Train Your Dragon movie franchise is overall slightly superior to the Shrek movie franchise...yes even better than the first and second great movies.
There's a subtle undercurrent to the entire movie which is masterfully done once you recognize it. Stoic is the Chieftain, which means that his personal feelings have to take a back seat to his responsibilities as a leader. Their relationship has often been compared to the football-star dad whose son is a computer nerd; they both respect (and even admire) the other's proficiency in their respective fields but they completely lack a common frame of reference. The moment that really drives this home is after he tells Hiccup "You're not my son" and walks out. He realizes the full impact of what he just said and staggers backwards, reeling from the internal blow. You see him glance behind for an instant, clearly wanting to go back and apologize, but his duty as Chieftain comes first. You see this same determination at the dragon's nest, when he orders Gobber to lead everyone to the far side of the island. Stoic knows that he can't possibly defeat the Dragon Queen but doesn't hesitate to go on a suicide mission to try to buy his people enough time to escape. Once you understand this, you can see throughout the entire movie how much he loves Hiccup. He wants his son to be free to follow his own path, but Hiccup's interests nearly always run contrary to what Stoic believes is necessary to protect their village. Furthermore, leadership of the village is extremely hereditary - Stoic's father was Chieftain before him, and Hiccup will become Chieftain after Stoic's time. This places as much burden upon Stoic to properly train his successor as upon Hiccup to become that successor, and you can see this conflict permeate nearly everything Stoic does.
You know a story is good when you go from cheering on the humans as they're killing dragons at the start of the movie to cheering against the humans as they tackle Toothless and put him in chains near the end and at no point in-between did that transition feel unnatural or forced. Looking forward to you watching the rest of the trilogy!!
Billy the advocate for treating people right. I’m glad he really pointed out all the misdeeds other people did to Hiccup. There’s a reason a ton of people write stories about Hiccup running off and living his own life.

Just everything. Honestly if it wasn’t for the nostalgia I have for Shrek, I will die on the hill that HTTYD is easily their best franchise and number 1 uncontested 💕 This was a perfect series and it was hit after hit each time, nothing felt like disappointment or a cash grab.

Hey Billy, just incase you didn't know, Hiccup was the one who messed up Toothless's tail wing. It happened when he shot him down at the beginning of the movie. It's also the reason Toothless can't fly all that well during the movie. He had to relearn how to. That being said, How to train your dragon is my favourite trilogies, I could watch the series forever
I am obsessed with HTTYD and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. A little thing you missed was that Toothless wasn't born without his tail fin, he lost it when Hiccup shot him down (he wouldn't have been able to fly on his own during that scene if it was already gone). Anyway, thanks for reacting, I'm excited for you to get into the next two.

"never seen a memorial for a bird" crows and jays hold funerals for their kind but crows do it to identify why the bird died so they don't die like that too
everytime billy called toothless "weakest dragon" "born with one fin" or some other stuff, my inner httyd fan was just filled with nothing but anger- for context. toothless and his kind was deemed "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself" because of how fast or a flyer he was before his left tail fin got cut and ripped off due to being shot down, from how he never misses his shots, and from how dark of a black tone he was(why he was called a night fury, because he was hard to see at night, and he was a dangerous and kill on sight dragon). he is THE strongest dragon and last of his kind (since most got either extinct or killed) and was also considered DEATH. A CHILD BORN FROM LIGHTNING AND DEATH. he could have killed hiccup sure, but he didnt since he was forced into a defensive state with only one tail fin. becuase you know, a DOWNED dragon is a DEAD dragon. he easily killled the red death, in exchange for him accidently biting of hiccups foot from attempting to save him. he couldnt have caught hiccup without having to grab his foot due to him falling head first. toothless is very independent, and can kill many with just one shot. DUDE. HE WENT FROM RESPECTING A KING TO MAKING ONE HIS BITCH. toothless is the king of dragons, having COMPLETE control of all of them. he only sticked with hiccup and didnt kill him because he was both in a vulnerable state, and because hiccup freed him. even when he captured and injured him. in summary, toothless is fucking god. he is powerful, he only had 1 fin because it got removed from being shot down, and didnt kill hiccup cause he freed him and was in a defensive state. hiccup lost a foot because toothless could only grab it to save him, but accidently bit it off. and was called the offspring of lightning and death itself was because he was a dangerous species, even at the start of the movie, hiccup mentions that the night fury was so powerful that they never missed, was never seen because they only attacked in the dark, and people say "NIGHTFURY! GET DOWN!" because NIGHTFURYS ARE CONSIDERED MORE DANGEROUS THAN A MONSTEROUS NIGHTMARE, AND THEY DONT THAT THAT FOR THOSE. toothless is both terrifying and wholesome. thank you for coming to my ted talk
I've been in love with this series for as long as I can remember. I didn't see httyd 1 in theaters, but I did see httyd 2 & 3 in theaters and it was magical. Last year I bought a $600 Toothless statue and it looks amazing
I really don't like that Billy doesn't realize that Toothless' tail got cut off by Hiccup's machine. This man saying Toothless can't fly because he didn't train. He did train and was an amazing flyer, Hiccup just cut off a part of the tail. That's why Toothless needs Hiccup's invention to fly again.
I'm a huge Shrek fan but I have to say this is DreamWorks best movie and trilogy! All 3 movies are pure masterpieces!! I always come back to these movies. They are up there with some of my fav cartoon movies
Billy, I love how you started the movie out as your usual sarcastic self, but by the end the movie won you over, just like the rest of us. I love Hiccup and Toothless because they're truly best friends who would die for each other. You have to watch the other two movies!
A few little details most people miss watching the movie for the first time: -Stoick regrets telling Hiccup you're not my son the moment he's out of the Mead/Great Hall (you can see it in his face), but he's too prideful to go back and apologize. Taking into account that his son literally went against everything him and his people believed for all their lives, I can understand why he is angry, what he did is not acceptable by any means, but I can undertand (more or less) Astrid's character isn't that deeply developed in the movie (not that they have time for it), but even in the little moments she appears you can see a lot: she's clarely a warrior (with some anger problems) who's trying to prove herself, she was the most promising of the teens to continue the legacy of their parents, of killing dragons (bc as explained in the movie, that was everything there), to suddenly lose everything to someone who never really tried (in the eyes of everyone), to someone who always messed up, she was angry and jealous, which takes us to the moment she confronts Hiccup. She's not dumb, it was weird that he suddenly was good after years of being a mess (again in the eyes of the village), and she's angry no one questions it. After demaning answers and taking her anger out on him, she sees toothless, her first instict is to duck, and she takes Hiccup to the ground with her, bc even if he's good at dragon training, he's weaponless at the moment, and they aren't at the arena, there's no Gobber to save them if something goes wrong. When the Night Fury aproaches she thinks this is another dragon that's trying to kill them, and she protects Hiccup than attacks. Then Hiccup tackles her and calms toothless, and her response here is running away, bc he is a traitor to everyone's beliefs. Then he kidnaps her yadda yadda, she says sorry, and then she opens her eyes to another reality she has never seen, and she's amazed. On top of that she also discovers alonside Hiccup that dragons were raiding bc they didn't have a choice, bring food or became it, so she understands dragons aren't what she believed all her life. (this is an analisys of the scene I found on tumblr, it's deeper there idk the account tho) I mean hitting a person isn't really good (it's bad), but she kinda lives in a violent village, so she expresses herself with fists
Hiccup is voiced by Jay Baruchel, who was in Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Is The End, Nick and Noras Infinite Playlist and Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian.
This is one of my favourite films, and favourite franchises of all time! I became obsessed with these films when they each came out! Thank you for you great reaction to it.

It's not anyones' "fault" that Hickup's different, he just has different set of interests and skills than the other vikings and the issue with how Stoick was raising him was that he didn't take it in account. You can't raise every child the same way, it just doesn't work. He was expecting Hickup to be like he was, but he should have found a different approach to raising Hickup when he noticed he was different. He should have been supportive but he wasn't.
When Hiccup took Toothless down at the beginning of the movie he injured his tail, and when Hiccup fell into the explosion at the end Toothless grabbed onto his foot to catch him-accidentally biting part of his leg off. It’s the same side too! Both lefties

I knew you would love this one! so glad to see you reacting. A couple things others might have mentioned but I didn't see in a brief scan of the comments. Toothless wasn't born with an injured tail and was not a weak dragon before Hiccup shot him down and injured him, impeding his ability to fly because he was flying just fine in the beginning when Hiccup shot him. He is one of the strongest breeds of dragon. But yeah! Glad you enjoyed. definitely one of my favorite trilogies.
Actually Toothless was born with two tail flaps. That’s how he could fly at the start of the movie, when he was attacking the village. When Hiccup shot him down, somehow one of the tail flaps got cut off so he couldn’t fly anymore
Can't wait! All 3 movies are a Masterpiece and I'm looking forward to seeing you watch the other 2 😌.
The 3rd one made me mad. Forced to give up dragons because of Dragonhunters
@@Uta_Chandra.H Well, you clearly haven't gotten the real and true meaning of the movie
@@elena_petrova fr
@@Uta_Chandra.Hsame here but at the same time I understand, I get it, humans are kind of a sucky species, I'm Pagan and believe in the fay and dragons and that thousands of years ago they did live in harmony with humans but humans started to realize they could use them to gain money or items and started to use them for their own gain and so the creatures had to hide themselves behind the veil to protect themselves from humans. We are a greedy species, I mean hell just in a few hundred years we made multiple species of tigers, elephants, and rhino's go extinct because of hunting them.
I just love the parallel from the opening phrase "the only down side are the pests. We have dragons" to the ending phrase "the only up side are the pets. We have dragons" 🥰
Yessss so happy you covered this. Please do the entire series. It gets better with each movie. There was no other movie out like this at the time.
The loss of his foot makes him a matched set with toothless. It’s a theme that carries in the series
Billy’s taste is finally coming back love to see it. This is my fav dreamworks trilogy ever. I’m still so mad at myself for not giving it a chance when I was younger because I thought it looked boring.
Definitely one of my all-time favourite series to watch commentaries of! Toothless and Hiccup are precious 🖤
It’s nice to see you so moved by Hiccup’s leg at the end. I wish you had heard the conversation after the fall to understand what was coming!
"Is this dragon the weakest?" "Is this a Nightfury?" "It's born with a missing wing?" "Why is it flying drunk?"
Maybe if you paid attention you'd know.
to be fair it wasn't until the second movie that i realised toothless lost his tail wing when hiccup took him down; also hiccup just thought he hit a night fury -- it doesn't really confirm right away that that *is* what happened. Also, after he's first released, we don't yet know he can't fly; so really all Billy's questions were valid. Bring your comments elsewhere if you're just gonna criticise (you're just boosting his engagement anyway)
@@jillianelizabeth7804 bro it showed the outline of the night fury, we also heard toothless scream on the way down and had visual cues as to what happened. It’s also implied that hiccup caused the injury . So yes my guy was right pay attention. It also is implied that it is one of the most dangerous in the first few minutes of the movie so lol
Great commentary reaction!
This is one of my favorite animated trilogies. This is one of those animated movie that I can watch over and over again.
I had my daily glass of water while watching this video. 👍
I very highly recommend the 2007 movie "Stardust". #Bingers
I second that request. " Stardust" is Fantastic!
Yesss Stardust I love that movie 😍😍
Probably an unpopular opinion:
How to Train Your Dragon is BETTER than Shrek…
Thank you for reacting
Yes, How To Train Your Dragon 3 is better than Shrek The Third but Shrek Forever After is better than How To Train Your Dragon 3 and the first two Shrek Movies are better than the whole How To Train Your Dragon trilogy.
that's, like, the universal opinion of everyone who's seen both series haha
@@logandupay9596 I said it’s an UNPOPULAR opinion, dude, chill!
Extremely unpopular opinion: I didn't like Shrek
@@logandupay9596
Well I would like to say that the How To Train Your Dragon movie franchise is overall slightly superior to the Shrek movie franchise...yes even better than the first and second great movies.
The fact he called her Machine Gun Kelly killed me the whole video 🤦🏻♀️😂
You know a story is good when you go from cheering on the humans as they're killing dragons at the start of the movie to cheering against the humans as they tackle Toothless and put him in chains near the end and at no point in-between did that transition feel unnatural or forced.
Looking forward to you watching the rest of the trilogy!!
Billy the advocate for treating people right. I’m glad he really pointed out all the misdeeds other people did to Hiccup. There’s a reason a ton of people write stories about Hiccup running off and living his own life.
Billy will forever have the best one liners during his reactions. "Oh snap he aint got no foot" lol I adore this movie though its a childhood classic
this movie is a cinematic masterpiece!
I’m looking forward to you finishing this series. It’s sooo good and so moving. I loved watching these movies as a kid
“He done turned his dragon into a Tesla” is the best line.
This movie has one of my favourite dream works openings because you can see the shadow of a NightFury (Toothless) flying across the stars behind the logo. I just thinks that's so cool
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS SERIES IN BILLY’S CHANNEL!
This whole franchise is amazing (we do not speak or SAY it’s name- HTTYD fans know what I’m talking about): the 3 full feature movies, the tv series, the video games, the holiday specials, the merch, the lore and OG books. Just everything.
Honestly if it wasn’t for the nostalgia I have for Shrek, I will die on the hill that HTTYD is easily their best franchise and number 1 uncontested 💕
This was a perfect series and it was hit after hit each time, nothing felt like disappointment or a cash grab.
7:56 Crows do gather around their dead freinds/fellow crows when they die.
You know Billy liked this movie when he called him Hiccup instead of Burp at the end there. 😂
When this movie first came out, im not gonna lie, I thought nothing of it. It took me being nearly 20 and rewatching it to realize how incredible it is. It's now one of my favorite movies ever.
The Soundtrack in this movie is beautiful.
My husband and I went down the Isle to "Testflight" (The sounstrack to their first flight where he loses the cheatsheet)
And our first dance was to "Romantic Flight" the theme that plays when Astrid gets her first ride on toothless and he takes them up into the clouds
That’s so cool
25:25 In her WHAT?!! He really said straight in her shoulder blade 😭😭
Actor who voices Stoick you may remember best from Ugly Truth.
Toothless was designed by the same guy who did Stitch-Chris Sanders. It is why you will find a lot of fan art of those two together. That and both are destructive little cuties!
Dreamworks has always been naughty #bingers Antz the jokes in that will be shocking you and making you blush billy.
Adding some more movie recommends #bingers Happy Feet 1 &2, Trolls 2, and the next two movies of HTTYD.
when i saw this my jaw DROPPED. billie i am SO SORRY i haven't been watching u recently but i am SO excited for this
23:21 "i can show you the world!"
“Wowwww, they got matching missing feets” DAWGGGGG I CACKLED SO LOUDD😂😂😂😂😂😂
Anyway, thanks for reacting, I'm excited for you to get into the next two.
you dont understand how much you are going to absolutely love this series, i cant wait for you to watch the rest!!
this is MY FAV trilogy of all time. its fire.
"never seen a memorial for a bird" crows and jays hold funerals for their kind but crows do it to identify why the bird died so they don't die like that too
everytime billy called toothless "weakest dragon" "born with one fin" or some other stuff, my inner httyd fan was just filled with nothing but anger-
for context. toothless and his kind was deemed "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself" because of how fast or a flyer he was before his left tail fin got cut and ripped off due to being shot down, from how he never misses his shots, and from how dark of a black tone he was(why he was called a night fury, because he was hard to see at night, and he was a dangerous and kill on sight dragon). he is THE strongest dragon and last of his kind (since most got either extinct or killed) and was also considered DEATH.
GET DOWN!" because NIGHTFURYS ARE CONSIDERED MORE DANGEROUS THAN A MONSTEROUS NIGHTMARE, AND THEY DONT THAT THAT FOR THOSE.
toothless is both terrifying and wholesome.
thank you for coming to my ted talk
my inner httyd of over 10 years really coming out, and im only 14 lmfaooo
I've been in love with this series for as long as I can remember. I didn't see httyd 1 in theaters, but I did see httyd 2 & 3 in theaters and it was magical. Last year I bought a $600 Toothless statue and it looks amazing
Really, cool
I love that you get so invested in the story! Watching this years later as an adult I totally agree with your commentary 👍🏻
Hope to see the rest of the series reaction, love it when Billy enjoys a good movie.
Oh yay! I was hoping you'd watch this! Can't get enough of your commentary and so glad you loved it. The sequel is a banger too!
I'm a huge Shrek fan but I have to say this is DreamWorks best movie and trilogy! All 3 movies are pure masterpieces!! I always come back to these movies. They are up there with some of my fav cartoon movies
I love that you can tell Billy absolutely loved this movie
this was my comfort movie in high school. i still watch it every time i need a pick-me-up. it’s just so so good. i’m glad you liked it!!
Billy, I love how you started the movie out as your usual sarcastic self, but by the end the movie won you over, just like the rest of us. I love Hiccup and Toothless because they're truly best friends who would die for each other. You have to watch the other two movies!
A few little details most people miss watching the movie for the first time:
-Stoick regrets telling Hiccup you're not my son the moment he's out of the Mead/Great Hall (you can see it in his face), but he's too prideful to go back and apologize. Taking into account that his son literally went against everything him and his people believed for all their lives, I can understand why he is angry, what he did is not acceptable by any means, but I can undertand (more or less)
Astrid's character isn't that deeply developed in the movie (not that they have time for it), but even in the little moments she appears you can see a lot: she's clarely a warrior (with some anger problems) who's trying to prove herself, she was the most promising of the teens to continue the legacy of their parents, of killing dragons (bc as explained in the movie, that was everything there), to suddenly lose everything to someone who never really tried (in the eyes of everyone), to someone who always messed up, she was angry and jealous, which takes us to the moment she confronts Hiccup. (this is an analisys of the scene I found on tumblr, it's deeper there idk the account tho)
I mean hitting a person isn't really good (it's bad), but she kinda lives in a violent village, so she expresses herself with fists
12:03 The reason he can’t fly is Hiccup accidentally damaged his tail fin.
Hiccup is voiced by Jay Baruchel, who was in Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Is The End, Nick and Noras Infinite Playlist and Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian.
He’s also in Tropic Thunder which seems to be popular as a UA-cam reaction movie.
Billy: "so is there a point where he won't need the mechanical wing anymore?"
Me: "I'm gonna tell him" *frozen meme*
Dont you dare
The soundtrack to this series is elite and is a blueprint for movie scores! I listen to it when I write and wish I could've played it in concert band.
This is an amazing series I'm so glad Billy is covering it.
This is one of my favourite films, and favourite franchises of all time! I became obsessed with these films when they each came out! Thank you for you great reaction to it.
Thanks Billy for reacting to this. When I first started watching your commentary, I did not know that your playfulness, criticism and laughs will be cheering me up.... thanks 🙏💜. Never stop🙂
This movie is a masterpiece and it's been my favorite animation alongside avatar the last air bender and i still watch it. I literally know every single dialog.
The series is also fun to watch i would really love to see reactions for it but i never found one.
I nearly coughed up my water when you coincidentally asked if we were drinking water XD. I literally just grabbed my bottle, opened it, and took a small sip when the question was asked to the viewer xD
Hey just wanted to say toothless wasn't born without a wing it tore off when hiccup shot him down also in the flying scene it was hiccup that was crashing toothless into stuff because he was getting used to flying
This series gave disabled kids everywhere a MC that they could see themselves in, it means so much to so many people.
"He was born with one wing?" Me going: "No no nonono, you got it wrong, he was hurt by Hiccup and how he has one tail wing left." In the background
Please watch all of them! These are some of my favorite movies! I love how as the story progresses in each movie, the characters clearly age!
Quick explanation
When hiccup shot toothless down at the start, that damaged his tail and then on of his tail fin ripped off or something in that context.
1:25 well he’s full name is Hiccup Hazardus haddock the 3rd
Him missing the part where he injured the dragon was lowkey frustrating 😭 but I guess thinking he was born disabled works too
12:39 If you're wondering when you can see these dragons , they aren't in the Trilogy, you can see more of them in the TV Series side of things ❤️👍 8 whole seasons of them in fact 👍
(At 6:05) no. Jonah Hill IS on this movie, but he plays the black haired kid with a curled-up goat-horned helmet.
This is the one who plays in _The Sorcerer's Apprentice…_ with Nicolas Cage and Alfred Molina.
I am just shocked that this is your first time watching this. Glad you're doing it now.
Billy my dude.... Toothless has one wing because Hiccup hurt him at the beginning that's why he was flying funny. Also, dragons don't train, they are smart. The dragons fought for survival, toothless spared Hiccup at first because he was freed, not because he was weak.
Fun fact! In the book, his name is Hiccup because he was a runt when he was born, and Hiccup basically means “mistake”! I’m sure you feel much better now!
I’m so glad to see you reacting to this one!! Such a fun movie, loved the commentary! Hope you do the rest of the series!!!!
The amount of things you miss cause of making actually fun jokes it's amazing... I kinda have mixed feeling about it. But I love your reactions man, please keep it up!!! :'3
This movie has one of the best Original Soundtracks of a movie PERIOD. I listen to the soundtrack when I study along with other movie scores and every God of War soundtrack.
Part if it’s tail was shot off when it was trapped in the net.
Toothless wasn't born with a misshapen tail. He lost part of it when Hiccup shot him down.
Billy my dear, this is probably my favorite reaction that you've ever done!
Billy forgot the title of the movie when captured Toothless was on the screen XD
Actually, Hiccup chop his tail wing off so he couldn't fly because of when he got shot down.
I love how Hiccup has a Canadian accent and the rest of the Vikings have Scottish accents but the real Vikings were from Scandinavia lol XD 😂
I can’t wait to see your reactions to the next ones! Loved it as always!
