Another aspect it took me a while to figure out is that the two injuries are likely directly connected. If you see how Toothless catches Hiccup from a (much lower-stakes) fall at the start of the second movie, you see that he rolls into a ball around him, tucking his tail under where Hiccup's legs are. Because Toothless was missing half his tail, the only part of Hiccup's body Toothless's fireproof scales couldn't protect from the flames was his left leg. It appears the writers really did think of everything.
I always thought Toothless accidentally ate his leg because he had to bite him to pull him closer. Like in the second movie when he Hiccup said toothless got him back for shooting him down.
@@getupegirl- I just took that to mean Toothless couldn't save his leg. I've never understood the 'bite' theory because even if Toothless had to use his mouth to grab Hiccup, his teeth are retractable. Also, if it had been a bite rather than a burn, Hiccup would have been bleeding everywhere when Stoick found him...
Hiccup actually *_wasn't_* brushing the comments off. He just takes them because he's *_used_* to them. That's what his life was like for 15 years. He's grown used to the insults and being ignored and pushed to the side. He's learned to use quips to bite back a bit but you can tell in his body language that they do affect him a lot. He uses sarcasm as a defense because the village has instilled in him that he's too weak to physically defend himself. He's also one of the very very small minority of the village who actually uses his brain to get out of a situation, the rest use mostly brawn. Hiccup is quite smart and that's something a lot of vikings didn't like because that made him more different. And thus they've put down his intellect just because he can't swing a sword over his head.
your mention of sarcasm reminded me of a meme i saw a while ago saying something along the lines of: apparently vikings invented sarcasm. i think we all know which one it was… *insert image of hiccup looking fed up with everything*
@@KurNorock i think you might be the sensitive one if you think simply being upset makes people weak. Also, he was not brushing them off, it's a matter of *_body language._* He would hunch his shoulders a bit, he would duck his head a tiny bit, wouldn't meet their eyes. Someone brushing them off literally would just not react at all really, they wouldn't care. Hiccup does care, that's seen in his body language. Also, having mental illnesses doesn't make someone weak and the fact you seem to think that really makes you a closed minded person. Actually, these moments make Hiccup strong because despite all these comments that upset him he still pushes through to save those who berated and belittled him. Strong and selfless.
Your "lambie" reaction was completely and totally priceless. The look as you lowered your precious lamb was one of horror, as if you had been holding your child up to see the carnage. I was sitting by myself watching and laughing like a total idiot. Thank you for those moments.
@@reactswithjax That, dear one, was quite obvious, as Lambie slowly descended from the screen. Your passion for this film was soooo engaging and sweet I am compelled to subscribe. Well earned, Jax, well earned! Looking forward to sharing more films with you. Although the next "Dragon" films are not as perfect as this one, they are well worth the viewing and sharing with us. I'll be there, I promise.
An important detail that people often miss is that the Monstrous Nightmare or whatever it's called that Hiccup is supposed to kill for his trial bursts out of the enclosure and into the cage and at first COMPLETELY ignores Hiccup and looks for a way out. Only once it realizes that it's trapped does it turn its attention towards the human.
@@reactswithjax No problem! I always think it's little details like that that make a story a little more believable, small things one doesn't pay attention to but add credulity :)
This is one of those trilogies where anyone could list any order of quality (ie they keep getting better or they keep getting worse) and I can find reasons to agree with everyone
42:35 That's the reason Toothless is really scary. For some reason, many people pay attention to his cute appearance, but completely forget his description from the book of dragons. He dropped to the ground a dragon that was 15-20 times bigger and heavier than him, who also stood firmly on all four legs, with one shot. If you start to look into the details, then you realize that Toothless is a damn scary combat unit.
Toothless has the traits of a cat; cats see you as a friend when you DON'T look at them; he's extremely fickle about food (which is fish); loves "dragon-nip;" chases a laser pointer; wiggled his butt when he pounced on Hiccup; ignores you when you try to get their attention...he acted a lot like a cat I had at the time (who was also black with green eyes).
@@reactswithjaxEven the weakest of the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, the last one, is a very good film. You’ll love them. Sympathetic protagonists, sympathetic antagonists (mostly), beautiful artwork, quality humor, and great climaxes.
Toothless can control the size of whatever he spits against the other dragons. For the little one, he used a little blast, like a spank, to get the other dragon's attention. For mama dragon, he used the extreme-force blast. And the other dragons were serving mama dragon, kind of like her slaves. They're free, now. And both the dragons and Vikings are happy with the new normal. Great reaction!
It also lit all of the gasses being built up by the big one to do even more. It looks more like the fall killed it than the fire, though. The fire just stunned it and burnt its wings
@@Heroo01 yeah, the fire in its mouth was mainly to make it angrier and distract it from noticing ground. And by the time it did notice the ground, its damaged wings were unable to stop its fall
@@Heroo01this. That’s why Hiccup waited a bit for the Red Death (I think that’s the name of the queen) to accumulate gas instead of firing just as she opened her mouth.
@@Heroo01 Don't forgot what happens when you force feed air into a fire. (suuch a bellows at a forge or if you are flying through the air at a high speed)
I think how fast Astrid moved on Hiccup is based on how dangerous and possibly short life spans are in their world. The next day, you can be killed by a great number of things, so don't wait.
VEry true, and she had, also, just seen how worthy and impressive he could be, and she moved in before anyone else could. Also, I love how she supported and pushed him out of his despair. She didn't tell him what he needed to do, she let him see it for himself. Everyone needs someone like that to support them in their lives.
Plus they're kids. It's like back in primary school there'd be kids who decided they were boyfriend and girlfriend at recess and then breakup lunchtime.
I find it fairly typical. She thought he was complete garbage in every possible way until she found out he was secretly the top dog of all vikings because he can tame dragons. It's like she thought he was driving a rusty tractor, only to realize he was driving the latest Tesla or something. "Okay, you're cool now, please marry me."
The lore behind it is as follows; Their entire group grew up together, and when the became older things became more serious to them and all became harder on each other and especially him because he showed less traits of being able to fight. Astrid doesn't despise him, but rather the fact that he himself is trying to put himself where he doesn't belong. He's trying to fit in where people expect him to, rather than doing what he really wants. When Astrid asked him, "...Are you serious?" And he answers, "Yes," she relises that he actually has nerve to do something that he chose himself. This is where Astrid begins to encourage him for the rest of the franchise. She's still just as competitive after that, as shown in the TV series, which kinda retcon the initial relationship and redevelop it, which is actually very good, considering that they were just in their mid-teens in the first movie. I apologise for such a random response, but it was an urge. All in all, Hiccstrid is priceless.
There are so many beautiful scenes in this film, from the shared drawings to the flight in the clouds to the pairing of the two friends' injuries at the end as they helped each other through the door to a wonderful new world.
One of THE best animated movies ever made. I could see your eyes starting to get wet during the iconic 'Test Flight' scene when Hiccup throws away the sheet, puts his faith in both Toothless and himself, and just _goes for it,_ even though it's not a sad scene, because that moment is just so POWERFUL. I tear up every time I watch it too.
I read the first book of the series on which this is (very loosely) based, and it explained the (in story) Viking naming convention that resulted in his being named hiccup. I don't remember it well enough to try to explain it, but I'm pretty sure that burp is a perfectly possible name as a result of it.
Hiccup is the real definition of a hero, he had all the rights to become the villain, but he still chose to be the good one and save everyone. This is the best trilogy Dreamworks could have done, amazing.
Yyyeeeaaah, agree to disagree. She hated Hiccup's guts, everything about him, until he suddenly proved to be the top dog because he can tame dragons. Honestly, from a certain perspective she just seems like a typical gold-digger, if we're being extra negative about it. The moment someone turns out to have the most power/wealth/skill, that's the horse she bets on. The amount of vitriol she had for Hiccup until he gave her a ride in his flying super sports car equivalent was through the roof. "Okay, you're rich, I take back everything else I said about you before." - The result of her thinking he was driving a rusty tractor, only to realize he's driving the latest porche.
@@LethalOwl No she didn't hate Hiccup's guts. Even early on in the film, we see she never actually bullied him, and even told Snotlout to knock it off when he was bullying Hiccup after the whole Monstrous Nightmare debacle. She was angry at Hiccup during training at the beginning because in her eyes, he wasn't trying at all. She was someone who always gave it her all, and so she disliked that Hiccup just flailed around, messing everything up. Perfectly understandable, in my opinion. They were fighting for survival. And on top of that, Hiccup was going to be chief one day just because he was Stoick's son, not because of any accomplishments of his own, something that probably angered Astrid to no end, given she's been shown to be someone who immensely values hard work. Again, very understandable. They were in the middle of a war. They need strong leader ship, something Hiccup hadn't demonstrated yet at that point. Astrid isn't a gold digger for liking Hiccup more because he's a dragon rider. It demonstrated to Astrid a side of Hiccup she had never seen before. It showed he was capable, that he was strong in his own way. Of course she'd like him more after that. It's perfectly natural to like capable people.
This is my favorite animated series ever. The soundtrack is amazing and i listen to it once a week because it always brings back the joy of watching these movies. They also do a great job aging the characters.
I couldn't stop laughing at the beginning. Jax's relaxed voice, her cup of Earl Grey, her Lamby... then sheep-pocalypse! 😉 I've watched this film many times, and seen a few reactions to it, but never had a better time. Can't wait for the rest.
Hiccup is actually a family name, his full name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third. Hiccup the first and Hiccup the second were know in Berk's history as great vikings. Stoick gave Hiccup that name so that the strength of his ancestors would be with him... It just so happens that "hiccup" also means "mistake." Also, I don't think you remember what Stoick's plan was the entire movie, find the nest and destroy it. If the nest is gone, the dragons would need to find a new home, effectively ending the raids. Quote from Stoick "If we find the nest and destroy it, the dragons will leave. They'll find another home"
I love this movie so much. It's always great to see someone else discover it for the first time. I love the narrative symmetry, the same questions, asked by different people at different times. Like when Gobber says that a dragon will always go for the kill, and then Hiccup says "So why didn't you?" Later when Astrid and Hiccup are standing on the cliff, Astrid says that the rest of them would've killed Toothless "So why didn't you?". Or how, in the early movie, Hiccup says "I just want to be one of you guys." Then, later, in the ring, he tells the dragon "I'm not one of them." It's little things like that that you don't notice on a first watch, or when Astrid first sees Toothless and she pushes Hiccup out of the way. She may not like him, but she's not going to let him be killed. Also the score for this movie is REALLY good. It's not always obvious when a movie has a really good score, but when it does, it can elevate a movie from being good, to being great.
About the "HTTYD" franchise: There are 3 main movies, which you surely need to watch! They all follow the same cute pattern of figuring out new stuff on the viking way. And then you have 3 short movies, like little specials. And there are 2 TV series, the first one is all about dragon training and learning about new dragons and stuff, really fun to watch and the second series is about the world around HTTYD.
@@reactswithjaxThere is a short mini-thing, called "gift of the night fury", which takes place between movie 1 and 2. it's maybe 30 minutes long or something. It's sort of a "christmas episode"? I can't stress enough how much i recommebd you watching it. It'd got some relevant character building, and develops the bond between toothless and hiccup. But more importantly: It is the MOST ADORABLE THING EVER. Like, seriously, you simply /must/ check it out, because i suspect you'll be all heart-eyes at the cuteness.
@@reactswithjax The tv series is actually pretty great - not only do you get more lore of the world and see Hiccup develop into who he is in the second movie, but it's also hilarious a lot of the time.
10/10 One of the most Breathtaking Animated Films of all time. I watched How to Train Your Dragon about 5 times now, and it never gets boring. It actually keeps on getting better and better with with more and more views. This is a huge accomplishment for DreamWorks Animation, it might actually be its Best Animated Feauture it yet. It is an amazing experience to watch this film in Cinema. The 3D is amazing and at times Breathtaking. I may of had the most fun that I've ever had in Cinema watching How to Train Your Dragon. The script is really good and is has a lot of dramatic depth. This movie is for everyone. Adults and Kids will enjoy it equally and will love it at the end. This movie will probably become a series like Shrek. But I'm hoping this film doesn't get bad sequels like Shrek 3 and Shrek Forever After. Anyways this film will be most recognized for its beautiful animation. 10/10 Highly Recommended
In the beginning, when she showed lamby after spotting the sheep, I immediately thought about what was going to happen next. The reaction did not disappoint 😂
this is the first vid of yours i’ve ever seen and straight up love at first sight looking at you🥴you’re just so precious, such a great reaction!! httyd is my sister and i’s comfort movie, one of our all time favorites, i love watching other people’s reactions to it. glad you liked it, the others are amazing as well. can’t wait to see more!!!!
This amazing movie teach to not be a follower of prejudice; or allow the opinions of others to define you; and also letting kindness be a part of any solution. Jax, thanks for the laughs.
Something some people miss about viking culture is that they were much MUCH less sensitive than modern day america. You ever hear siblings lovingly use every slur they can think of instead of eachothers names or how guys love on their male friends my insulting them? That's what their culture was like. Yes, for a dreamworks movie, they were insulting him and he was taking it to heart, but for the setting, everyone would be doing that to eachother at varying levels, and it would be affectionate. Their culture valued strength and resilience and bravado. Poking at your loved ones like that 1.made them less likely to be susceptible to it when it was real 2. gave them practice at being snippy back/intimidating and 3. helped curb some of the negative aspects of a valor seeking culture by consistently humbling people. "The tree that never had to fight for sunlight never grew tall or strong" is a quote I always liked about them. So yes, dreamwork movie, they are actually insulting him and he is taking it to heart/used to it, but the setting it's based in, that would be completely normal and they'd all poke at eachother like that too, if Hiccup was any more viking-like, he would be quipping back at them. Norse culture is where we get the earliest examples of people insulting eachother as a competition, flyting, the precursor to modern rap battles. Hell, Loki was the patron of it and apparantly was so good at it he once almost killed all the other gods by insulting them so bad. It's meant to built strength, and the insults are accurate, or percieved to be, but it's not meant to harm him, just to keep him 1.humble 2.less sensitive/manipulable to it and 3.to respond better to actual enemies doing it and turn it back at people. The norse valued strong tongues as well as strong arms.
Seeing you watch one of my favorite movies was very delightful. Toothless reminds me so much of my dog who died 2020 at the age of 14. I cry everytime watching these movies.
Since you asked, typically, the larger a flying animal is, the faster it has to fly to stay in the air. Flying requires airflow over the wing in order to create lift. The faster the airflow, the more lift. Large birds such as condors and albatross' typically cruise at 50-70mph. And ancient giant pterosaurs such as the 450 pound (30ft wingspan) quetzalcoautlus probably spent most of its time flying around 90-120mph.
And now you have to watch the second and third (they just get better). The guy who designed and animated Toothless modeled him and his mannerisms after his cat, which is a black cat obviously. Fantastic movie, and I really love watching it and revisiting it about once a year. Enjoy, and I look forward to your watching of the second ones, as well as more Marvel reactions.
@@reactswithjaxactually, some movements were based on his cat, but his behaviour overall is based on cats, dogs, horses and Stitch (yep, the blue alien 626)
Love the implication that Hiccup apologized so many times during his time bonding with Toothless that he figured out what it means and recognizes it when Astrid says she's sorry.
I think this is my number three all time favorite animated movie ever. Watching Hiccup and Toothless grow together and learn from each other, and how Astrid puts together the pieces and figures out what Hiccup is doing, and even joins his side after being introduced to Toothless and spending some time with him. The cinematography when they assault the dragon's lair at the end with the fireball soaring through the cave, and the gigantic dragon at the end exploding into flames are some of my favorite shots of all time, in any movies, animated or live action, ever. And multiple scenes of this movie will make me cry every single time I watch it. Astrid encouraging Hiccup to stand up to Stoic, Stoic freeing Toothless and saving Hiccup, and Toothless saving Hiccup. All of that gets me very emotionally worked up. I love this movie so much.
I first saw this movie in the theater. At the time it came out (not long after Avatar) the movie industry was really pushing their modern (polarization based, rather than color filters) 3D technology. Most major studio movies were being released primarily in 3D, though 2D was usually still available. Most of them were a mixture of really gimicky scenes and stuff where the 3D didn't really add anything. This was the one movie I saw that I felt really made good use of the 3D possibilities to simply enhance the experience. Of course, there was still a lot of the movie where the 3D didn't really matter much one way or the other, but the flying scenes were just amazing. I was maybe even more impressed, though, by the way they occasionally used the 3D in unexpected ways to enhance small scenes. For instance, as the Viking fleet is headed out across the ocean to find the dragon island there was an establishing shot which showed the tiny fleet all in a line in the midst of a vast ocean. I think they must have done an entirely different animation in the 2D version, because the fleet was so small that in 2D you'd very likely not even notice it, but with the 3D animation they were able to draw your eye to the ships so that you were sure to notice them while simultaneously really enhancing the vastness of the surroundings. Anyway, if you ever get the chance to see this film in 3D I suggest that it's actually worth it.
19:53 Hiccup has same trait as his mother who ended up becoming a dragon guardian and trainer which you later see in the second movie 👍🏽 Everyone thought she was killed by a dragon.
I’m too used to everyone having httyd as their classic childhood favorite movie. It’s wild that some people have gone this long without seeing it and I’m so happy that folks still get to have that first magical experience
I saw this twice in the theater. To this day I consider it the best use of 3d I've ever seen. Mostly cause the 3d just fleshed it out without being gimmicky. It made the "test flight" scene absolutely breathtaking.
"I've lost power on the Gronkle." .... story of my life. Lol. I had a blast watching this with you. It's one of my favorite movies. Your personality and raw emotions are everything. Thank you so much!! Your compliments have me smiling from ear to ear. This movie was so much fun to watch! I can see why it's one of your favorites. I'm hoping the second movie is just as fun to watch. ❤️❤️❤️
So, there's a video essay from Charles Cornell called "How to Train Your Dragon is a MASTERCLASS in Theme Writing," which talks about how they work with Toothless' musical motif and Hiccup's musical motif playing off of one another in the scene where they are first flying together, and how the music itself is telling the story every bit as much as the visuals, themselves. It is an amazing video, and it made me appreciate a beautiful scene and a beautiful song 100% more. I do hope you continue with the HTTYD series, they're all amazing! Also, at the moment, there are only three movies that are out, with a fourth one in the works. There are TV series and... the equivalent of TV movies, but there are only the three _core_ movies, with the rest just kind of building on them as a background.
The "fourth one" is not a continuation of the story. The ending of 3 is kind of impossible to build off of while maintaining the core aspects of the franchise. They're making a live action remake of movie 1
There are three How to Train Your Dragon movies and they’re all worth watching. Hiccup even gets a Steve Rogers like glow up over the course of the movies. Think of this as his “Skinny Steve” phase.
Hi i want to share that my moms name is Lammy. Its a nickname for an old fashioned name in Dutch but yes, its also what little sheep are called. So she collects sheep and lamb memorabilia and its so cute. I wanted to share bc ive never seen anyone call a sheep Lammy in english befor❤❤
After the 3rd one - the How To Train Your Dragon - 20min Homecoming short film - they may well yet make a 4th main film, who knows? And Hiccup should/could have been 1 of a set of triplets - Hiccup, Burp/Belch, and maybe Barf . . .
Great reaction as ever, Jax, you're so expressive in your reactions it's like watching with a big kid! I'll join the chorus of people who'll undoubtedly recommend both the second and third movies in this trilogy, altogether an amazing piece of storytelling. Also, as you mentioned you liked films with interesting father/son dynamics, I'd recommend Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has some amazing father-son story. It's not connected to the rest of the Spider-Man/Marvel movies either so you don't need to wait to watch it, and it's got a sequel out soon!
Thank you! I'm excited to see the rest of the trilogy! I'm so glad to know that the rest of the movies measure up to this one. Thanks for the Spider-Man recommendation! I'll definitely put it on the watch list! ❤️🎉
If we look at it from Stoick's perspective, we see that it all makes sense, right now we are thinking Stoick is a dumb father for not listening to his son, but, imagine this, you see your son befriending a what-you-believed DEMON, and of course, you are not going to listen to his begs, because, well, he just tried to befriend a dragon, who has been at war with the Vikings for centuries. Stoick, is still (and always have been) the best chief for his people that we know of.
I love the fact that I can watch a movie in half the time and still enjoy it. You cut the movies in such a way that I can still completely understand the story of the movie.😂It saves my time too👍👍👍
The talk with his dad where he creeps in closer smiling huge like omg tell me tell me 😂😂 kills me especially the good talk good talk I do that with my dad a lot anytime there’s a silence
Great reaction! This is definitely one of my favorite trilogies of all time. I can't wait to see your next reaction! Fun Fact: The animators modeled the dragons and their mannerisms after cats! That's why they share similar eyes, react to grass similar to catnip, and purr. Some behaviors were modeled after dogs but Toothless was animated based on the animation supervisor's cat.
That's so cool! Now that you mention it, he had much more cat-like mannerisms. I'm so excited to see the next movie. I keep hearing that it is wonderful! ❤️
20:20 This scene always gets me, because of the music. Charles Cornell does a great breakdown of why its so good, which is who I'm lifting from. But the gist of it is, at the start of this scene, with Hiccup flying by cheat sheet, its his Theme playing, all very technical and by his worry. Then the discord as they break apart and fall. Then, they rejoin, but Toothless takes control and snaps out his wings to try and break, and we get Toothless' Theme instead. And finally, the cheat sheet is lost, and both Themes now mix, and we have Test Drive. Its just so good.
I love how Jax feels she's officially in the "fold" of the MCU, which she is, don't get me wrong😅, cuz there's still so much I can't wait for her to watch, I guess I just like seeing reactions of people still being introduced into things I'm interested in, as far animated movies go, HTTYD is one of the best I've watched, and this is a pretty good reaction too, Dreamworks remains undefeated 💪🏾

Fun fact: at 14:10 when hiccup gets to pet toothless, there is a little jerk back from toothless ever so subtle just before going in for the pet. This was an accidental animation error but they kept it cause it was actually good and cute
Did you know that his eye being open after panning over his wing when Hiccup found him was an animation error as well? They thought it looked nice and decided to keep it in
44:20 True but when toothless shot the little one he only shot a tiny spark, not actually wanting to hurt it too bad. For the big one he was shooting like he _meant_ it. ( :
Yes, the father is Gerard Butler, and the smith/trainer is Craig Ferguson. We have Vikings with Scottish accents. 😆 Toothless was modeled after how a cat moves. If you look closely, you'll see his pupils change from cat's eye slits when he's angry or scared, to round when he's friendly.
There is a pretty strong theory that in order to save hiccup, (since he was falling head first) toothless had to bite off his foot to catch him. They both caused each other's injuries.
This is me and my 3 year old daughters' favorite movies to watch. The dragons nature was based on cats. My girl and I love cats. So it's only natural that we love this movie. Toothless is my favorite dragon ever. Gobber gave him the best advice ever telling him to strop trying to be something you're not. It's literally the basis of Hiccups' individual path, which changes everything for the better.

And thus they've put down his intellect just because he can't swing a sword over his head.
your mention of sarcasm reminded me of a meme i saw a while ago
saying something along the lines of:
apparently vikings invented sarcasm.
i think we all know which one it was…
*insert image of hiccup looking fed up with everything*
He's like sokka
Stop it. Hiccup absolutely was brushing the comments off. Not everybody is as weak and sensitive as you.
@@KurNorock 👈said the oversensitive person him/herself... 🤦♂
Your "lambie" reaction was completely and totally priceless. The look as you lowered your precious lamb was one of horror, as if you had been holding your child up to see the carnage. I was sitting by myself watching and laughing like a total idiot. Thank you for those moments.
I had no idea they were going to be killing of sheep in this movie! Haha! I'm glad you got a kick out of it 😂❤️
@@reactswithjax That, dear one, was quite obvious, as Lambie slowly descended from the screen.
I know right? Her expression cracked me up. She had no idea 😂
Thanks for pointing that out!
@@reactswithjax No problem! I always think it's little details like that that make a story a little more believable, small things one doesn't pay attention to but add credulity :)
Awe you’re right😢
This is one of the best animated trilogies I’ve ever seen. The movies keep getting better and better. (IMO)
well my rankig would be the opposite way, with the third the "worst" while that "worst" one still being really good....
My ranking:-
2>1>3
I can't wait to see the rest of them! I'm so glad you think they are just as good, if not better!
@@reactswithjax And I cannot wait for to watch for that reaction.... please don't let us wait too long for the 2nd movie reaction....
Can I just say how AMAZING all these voice actors are? Like, even the extra characters in the backround, all these voices are perfect
So true! Everyone did a great job!
I have a deep, abiding love for Pixar, but this and the Kung Fu Panda trilogy are truly marvelous, and I watch them over and over.
I am so excited to continue this trilogy! And, to see Kung Fu Panda ❤️
@@reactswithjaxEven the weakest of the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, the last one, is a very good film. You’ll love them. Sympathetic protagonists, sympathetic antagonists (mostly), beautiful artwork, quality humor, and great climaxes.
Soon to be quadrilagy 😅
And the dragon crashed into the ground at break neck speeds. Literally.
I tear up every time I watch it too.
hiccup having a sibling called burp would've been hilarious and perfect lol
edit: 10:48 she was asking her twin brother not the dragon 🤣
Omg! Hahaha! I thought she was talking to the dragon! 🤣
I read the first book of the series on which this is (very loosely) based, and it explained the (in story) Viking naming convention that resulted in his being named hiccup. I don't remember it well enough to try to explain it, but I'm pretty sure that burp is a perfectly possible name as a result of it.
@@hkpew yes its the thought that that uglier the name the safer/more powerful the person
Well the twin’s dragon with 2 heads has 2 names, one for each head, one head is named Barf and the second is named Belch
In the Nickelodeon spinoff it’s explained as hiccup being slang for runts.
Hiccup is the real definition of a hero, he had all the rights to become the villain, but he still chose to be the good one and save everyone.
This is the best trilogy Dreamworks could have done, amazing.
Once Astrid said "First to ride one tough" the fans knew she was a solid wife, you'll see it in the other movies.
She ended up being the perfect girlfriend, perfect wife and perfect mother. And soon enough perfect grandmother.
*though
Yo these comments wild 😂😂😂
This is my favorite animated series ever. The soundtrack is amazing and i listen to it once a week because it always brings back the joy of watching these movies. They also do a great job aging the characters.
The music was incredible! It made the movie even better!
@reactswithjax next time you feel a bit down, just start this soundtrack. Can still give me goosebumps.
I couldn't stop laughing at the beginning. Jax's relaxed voice, her cup of Earl Grey, her Lamby... then sheep-pocalypse! 😉 I've watched this film many times, and seen a few reactions to it, but never had a better time. Can't wait for the rest.
Yes, the beginning of this movie was very... unexpected! 🤣 But I had the best time watching it and I'm so glad you had fun watching with me! 🎉❤️🎉❤️
Hiccup losing his foot is not only realistic, but it gives representation to kids teens or even adults who are similar. the beauty of Pixar. =)
This trilogy was produced by DreamWorks!
@@drakensberg.multimedia this! My bad
Agreed! I had no idea DreamWorks made such heartfelt and relatable films. This was such a gem!
Representation, representation, representation...
It’s dreamworks 😑
6:36 "There's _never_ enough bread-making Vikings"
That actually sounds like something you could put on a shirt if you ever decide to do any merch! 😂
Or how, in the early movie, Hiccup says "I just want to be one of you guys." Then, later, in the ring, he tells the dragon "I'm not one of them."
It's little things like that that you don't notice on a first watch, or when Astrid first sees Toothless and she pushes Hiccup out of the way. She may not like him, but she's not going to let him be killed. Also the score for this movie is REALLY good. It's not always obvious when a movie has a really good score, but when it does, it can elevate a movie from being good, to being great.
This movie is one of my fav movies ever.. and yet somehow the next two movies in the trilogy managed to be even better. How did they do that?
Really!? Wow, that's awesome! Can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy!!
That's so cool that this movie inspired so many more films and TV shows! I'm excited to see the next movie!! 🎉🎉

One of the most Breathtaking Animated Films of all time.
Duude you talking about getting bad sequels? It already has 2 sequels that are on point. If you haven't seen them you gotta see them already!

I felt bad for Lammy when you brought her to watch the movie, just when I knew on of her relatives was going to be picked by the dragons.
Hahaha! I was shocked when that happened! Thankfully, Lamby survived the movie unscathed! 🎉❤️🎉
I am really excited to see 2 & 3! Toothless does seem cat like! They did a great job with him mannerisms and personality. ❤️
This is such a phenomenal movie. You pointed out some of the best parts of it! It's an emotional movie for me too. The score also gets me emotional.
The 3D version sounds wonderful! This movie must have been such a joy to watch in theaters! ❤️
19:53 Hiccup has same trait as his mother who ended up becoming a dragon guardian and trainer which you later see in the second movie 👍🏽 Everyone thought she was killed by a dragon.
01:00 - I had to stop the video and then I laughed for a few minutes 😆
I’m too used to everyone having httyd as their classic childhood favorite movie. It’s wild that some people have gone this long without seeing it and I’m so happy that folks still get to have that first magical experience

While the queen dragon was never named in the final film, the script refers to her as "The Red Death".
I saw this twice in the theater. To this day I consider it the best use of 3d I've ever seen. Mostly cause the 3d just fleshed it out without being gimmicky. It made the "test flight" scene absolutely breathtaking.
Holy shit that Hiccup/Burp joke got me so much more than I would have thought.

You’re the first and only reactor I have seen so far that didn’t hate Stoick, Hiccup’s dad. I love that.

After the 3rd one - the How To Train Your Dragon - 20min Homecoming short film - they may well yet make a 4th main film, who knows? And Hiccup should/could have been 1 of a set of triplets - Hiccup, Burp/Belch, and maybe Barf . . .
44:21 the tinier one was fireproof so I guess that made it easier for it to block out the fire
"If Hiccup had a sibling would he be Burp?"
That was so dumb I literally laughed out loud 😂
Haha!
When Toothless picked Astrid up while she was trying to run back to the village, you looked like you were about to burst with excitement.
That hicup and sibling burp joke almost killed me 😂😂. I suggest third and fourth siblings called sneeze and snort.
Haha! Yes!!!
Literally my favorite movie of all time, just found your channel and it’s awesome!

Not only was Hiccup training the dragon. But , the dragon was training him as well. It was a two way street.
im sorry but when the sheep in the beginning got snatched as she was bringing lamby to her chest is so funny 😂😂
The talk with his dad where he creeps in closer smiling huge like omg tell me tell me 😂😂 kills me especially the good talk good talk I do that with my dad a lot anytime there’s a silence
I love that there is a hero for children with physical challenges.
It's so funny that you made a joke about Hiccup and Burp. Billy Binges literally called him burp through the entire series 😂

This scene always gets me, because of the music.
Toothless is the sassiest being ever and I am living for it
He really is!
I love the scene when Hiccup called Toothless a Bad Dragon, because he is diving into the water and doing barrel rolls to mess with Astrid.
Haha! Yeah, that was awesome.
Good choice for a reaction! I'm sure you will love this trilogy. Always fun to watch your reactions!
Thank you!! ❤️🎉
Toothless did a nice cameo with Kitt Harrington for a Game of Thrones demo.
You have to see it because it is funny as hell.
Great reaction Jax your channel is fast becoming my favourite and my favourite animated trilogy ever and i can't wait to see you watch the rest!
Thank you!!! This movie was incredible. I have no doubt the other two movies will be just as fun to watch! ❤️
I'm all talk with the MCU! Haha, I know so little! This movie was so epic. I loved it! You are right that this is one of the best animated films ❤️
26:41 Or in viking mythology Bifröst or bridge to asgard.
26:55 They were rock spires that have been carved (my guess)
Hi!! I'm a new subscriber! I saw your wall-e reaction first and loved it! When I saw that you made a reaction to "How to train your dragon", I knew I had to see it! I'm looking forward to continue watching your videos and wish you a great month and furthermore!
Hi! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like my reactions. This film was so heartwarming, I'm excited to see the sequel! Thanks for subscribing! Hope you have a lovely day!! ❤️💗❤️
One thing to remember it’s not the fall that kills you it’s the sudden stop at the end .
This video reaction is providing me inspiration for a happy Friday! Your Joy is infectious!
I think this could be your best reaction so far! It's so great to see your channel growing so fast! Already ~16K+ (I sub'd when it was under 2K...) I know you'll be at 25K in a heartbeat!
I've always look forward to your weekly releases! If you ever decide to review a "Classic" movie, I hope you'll consider "Good Bye Mr. Chips" as one for your channel.
Thanks for sharing your hard work with us!
Cheers,
M-
Thank you so much for saying that! I really appreciate it ❤️ That's SO cool you were one of my early subscribers!!! Thank you for your support! I've never seen Good Bye Mr. Chips but I'd love to, so I will put it on my watch list. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! ❤️🎉❤️
The test drive and the romantic flight bits remains two of the best things that happened to animation.
The flying scenes were truly phenomenal ❤️
Thank you for selecting "How To Train Your Dragon!" This and "Megamind" are my favorite animated movies, with "The Iron Giant," Wall-E," and ""Up" close behind.
Oooh! I haven't seen Megamind or the Iron Giant but the other movies you mentioned are 10/10. I'll put the ones I haven't seen on my watch list ❤️
@@reactswithjax I hope that you haven't missed "Shrek," another great DreamWorks creation. I absentmindedly omitted it.
Two of this movie's voice actors, Jay Baruchel and T.J.Miller, are also in the live action, "She's Out Of My League."
Always enjoy your reactions. You express every emotion so intensely. 😂😢😮😊. One thing I'll just mention, is that for reaction viewers, when a reactor guesses what is going to happen, it's a bit of a let down, because it means one less thing you'll have a reaction to. I get it though...the temptation to show you've sussed out what's coming. Keep up the fun stuff.
My daughter loved this movie as a child (it came out when she was 10), and continues to be so obsessed with it she got a tattoo of Toothless around her wrist when she turned 21. She considers it her good luck charm.
That is awesome! ❤️
I love the word play they do. At the beginning he talks about the "pests" and at the end mentions the "pets". Very good movie!
Ooh! I missed that! That's great wordplay.
@Reacts With Jax took me a few times to catch it. Have seen it many times lol my son enjoys the dragons.
I love how the end credits sound and look in this movie. The song matches the movie so well, and the drawings and old paper theme will always be my favorite
The end credits are so beautiful!
The reaction at 00:58 was hilarious. It needs to be a meme.
Hahaha!
ive watched pretty much every single httyd reaction and ive never heard someone describe Gobber as "this little guy" that was hilarious
We're planning our wedding for this autumn and are totally using the soundtrack during our ceremony :D
That's amazing! Your wedding is going to sound epic! Congrats by the way ❤️
The face change at Lamy you're family 😂😂
9:42 If you're curious that you'll see these dragon somewhere in the Trilogy, hate to break it , but that fun is reserved on all 8 Seasons of "DreamWorks Dragons" Television series ❤😅😁👍👍👍
Fun fact: at 14:10 when hiccup gets to pet toothless, there is a little jerk back from toothless ever so subtle just before going in for the pet. This was an accidental animation error but they kept it cause it was actually good and cute
That's really cool!
Toothless was modeled after how a cat moves. If you look closely, you'll see his pupils change from cat's eye slits when he's angry or scared, to round when he's friendly.
New sub here.... The pure joy you showed was truly special.... Please continue with the sequels. They are just as good.....
There is a pretty strong theory that in order to save hiccup, (since he was falling head first) toothless had to bite off his foot to catch him. They both caused each other's injuries.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing that theory ❤️
This is one of those movies where if I'm channel surfing and it happens to be on, I have to watch it.
I can see why! It's awesome!
I normally search for reactions to eat with and i'm glad i found your channel, you are the sweetest ✨Really loved your reaction and going through the whole channel! haha
Thank you so much!!! ❤️
