Nonetheless I was happy with the heartfelt surprise of Hector being Coco's father and Miguel's REAL family, it made me love the movie even more❤
I normally don't like disney twists but the "remember me" song going from being a famous dude's song to his fans to really being a father's song to his daughter always punches me right in the gut. An actually well-done twist with earned emotion.

Probably hid it as a little girl so Mama Imelda wouldn’t throw it away. I can imagine her rummaging through the garbage to find where Imelda had thrown it, then hiding it with her father’s letters.
@@b.f.2461 It's implied that Imelda ripped away Hector's part of the photo and threw it away. My guess is that Coco snatched it out of the trash when her mom wasn't looking and hid it away.

I don't blame Mama Imelda for not forgiving Hector right away. I don't think it was a matter of pride either. Even though he wanted to come back to his family, he still left after she begged him not to go and had to raise their daughter alone while he live his dream. That's a heart break of being betrayed by someone you loved. Which fits the theme of the story twist Hector being betrayed by Ernesto.
Yea she deflee had this nigga chasing, fighting his way back into her heart, and kissing a lot of ass. She was not a weak bish by any means. She loved herself and her family more . That’s why she’s the one for him
I still cannot stand her because of how she brought up the rest of the family though. And the fact that she told Miguel to give a music otherwise she wasn't gonna give him his blessing? I would have called her out on that and said 'fine I am staying right here because I am not giving something I love just because you are angry and bitter!'. I'm still wondering why Coco didn't put her father's picture up after her toxic mom finally bit the dust.
I dont blame her either, but he didnt just leave her, he tried to come back to his family and give up his career, but that opportunity was taken away from him
Ernesto runs neck-and-neck for the top spot of "Dumbest Villain of all Time" with Mother Gothel. Nobody in the Disney fans community can decide which one is more stupid; Mother Gothel for telling Rapunzel her real birthday, or Ernesto for putting a murder that he actually committed in one of his movies.
He obviously thought he was invincible and that it would fly over everybody’s head forever lmfao. He didn’t think he would have a run-in w/ hector’s great-great kin who would change the game someday . Ha ! He wanted fame, he got it .
I would say he's stupid yeah but the way you're overreacting it is cringey. 😬 It's more likely about his narcissism. I wouldn't say he's as stupid as you say when he was actually able to take his secret to the grave, until our anomaly Miguel no one expected came.
It’s actually pretty common for murderers to give away themselves stupidly. They get away with something once and they think they’re invincible and untouchable, that’s why so many of them get caught. They let their egos run the show and it ends up slipping out what they really did eventually.
@@JavaJane87 nah, Frollo by far deserves top 3. @@BillyBinges I mean I know I'm predisposed after watching elderly family members go thru it, but those rare precious moments when you can glimpse the person you love still inside there - Mama Coco singing had me 😭
I cried cause a month or so ago my grandmother passed away, and she had dementia, like I believe Mama Coco did. It hit home when Coco remembered everything... My grandma never had a moment like that. She got better for a little while, but she passed away soon after... That happens a lot, people getting better before they pass.. Anyways, it hit close to home and it gets me every time.
I really like that the conflict comes from an event in living memory. His grandmother is so fierce about music because she got to see in her own lifetime the pain Coco and Imelda went through because of Hector disappearing. It makes the premise less ridiculous.

I'm trying to perfect my Spanish but I studied in France so I had a SPANISH education, not Mexican or any SA country... I did get the soundtrack for this movie in Spanish because it is *magical*
Coco destroyed me. Especially after what my Mexican girlfriend told me before watching. My mum passed away not long before I met her. She told me she would honour her on her altar for Día de Muertos, my heart was just, melted. I have her a picture of my mum and she honoured her as she did with her own family. I don't knock what I did to deserve my gf. But now we are together, we both keep each other strong. She's my whole world. This beautiful angel did this for me and I'll never forget it.
For día de los muertos you should make your mom’s favorite foods so that it can be left on the altar for her to enjoy along with your girlfriends family
As a latina who understands the importance of family in our culture, living with my sick grandma that we all take care of, this movie makes me cry so easily...
Totally, Ive watched like 3 times already and every time I cry. Recently I watched with my parents and even my dad who doesn't cry easily teared up. It's just a beautiful movie.
@@Author.Noelle.Alexandria wow. So sorry you had to go through all that & were victimized by people who should have be loving & supportive of you. I’m so glad you had a special connection with your grandma, though, & that you have kept your positive spirit. You’re very strong.
I’m a Carib Latina and this movie came out shortly before my grandfather passed. He was out of the country and we flew to him to try to bring him back to the US for treatment but when we realized that was not an option, we stayed by his bed in shifts until the last moment. This was a few years ago and I have the dried flowers from his funeral en mi ofrenda to this day. It took me a long time to watch Coco but it’s my favorite.
That movie always makes me cry, especially at the part where coco and his great grandmother start singing together. It makes me think of my grandmother and how much I miss her.
This movie show the magic that is music therapy with dementia patients. When they hear music that makes them happy or they associate with happy memories, I.e “remember me” with cocoa and her dad, it makes them remember things and they become more aware about their surroundings.
I love this movie, I still cry when Hector is singing Remember Me to Coco in the flashback and when they're all finally reunited in the Land of the Dead.
Same, i watched it with my dad "el macho" and i didn't want to cry cause i didn't want him to make fun of me and when i looked next to me he was crying none stop hahahahaha
I can't even watch a commentary of this movie without bawling, they really have been putting out gut-wrenchers with Moana, Coco, Encanto, Turning Red. All of them have the running theme of healing from intergenerational trauma, particularly with children being forced to do the work, and it just hits so damn hard.
2:25 you got it right the first time! then it went a bit down hill, but you said alebrijes perfectly the first time! I love this movie, I was studying abroad when it came out and my abuelita passed and I just wanted to go back and visit her.

When mama Imelda looks at Hector during her performance, the line she sings in Spanish (I’m not even gonna *try* to spell it out lol) means “I’ll never stop loving you”, and the way she looks at him in that moment proves she was being serious about it. 🥰
Did you notice that at the end when they're walking across the bridge, Hector is wearing shoes? He's wearing shoes! The fan cannon is that Imelda made them for him. I love it so much! I've literally seen this movie over 25 times, and I've cried every time. 😀 also, hug through the computer. I wanted to hug you during the duet scene at the end. I love hugging people during that scene. 😀 Forgot to mention: I love the line, "that's for murdering the love of my life." It's such a deep line, that you can't really digest in the first watch, and it's great. First you find it funny, and then the second time around it's still funny, but then you realize that she still loves him, and always has, and by the third watch, it makes you cry, and then you're feeling all the emotions and it's great. Oh! Also! For some adorable behind the scenes detail that makes the flashback scene even sweeter; the voice actor for Hector, his ACTUAL little girl plays little Coco, so he's ACTUALLY singing to his daughter. That is the best behind the scenes information that I have ever been given ever! It makes it so much better! End it was already amazing! God I love this movie! 😀😀😀😀😀😀
I didnt know he was singing to his actual daughter 😭 and I've never noticed him wearing shoes at the end and I've seen this dozens of times 😳 I love that cannon!
@@jessicamorgan2438 I know right!? I'm normally not for love stories, but this is my favorite, because it has other elements and it's SO good! You can understand why Imelda is still mad at Hector, even though he was murdered, he still left in the first place, so she still has the right to be mad at him. However you can also understand why hector would want to leave and play music. It was his talent, and he could probably make a lot more money off of doing that than anything else. Also, adorable behind the scenes info about Imelda's voice actress: Alanna's mom sang La Liorona to her growing up, so when she heard her daughter singing so song in a movie she cried. It was apparently a very touching moment for the two of them. How sweet is that! 😀😢
@@ZeldaWolf2000 I understand why Imelda was mad. She didn't know. I probably would be to if I were in her shoes.. Thats the tricky part about love. Of course you want them to be happy and pursue what they love but that selfish part of you kinda resents it especially if he's able to do what he loves and maybe you have yours on hold due to raising a child (especially on your own). Im not saying she didn't love raising Coco but hopefully you get what I mean..
Definitely. You feel bad for both of them. You understand why Hector left, but you also understand why Imelda was so mad at him for so long. Also, her denouncement of music ENTIRELY just shows how much she loves Hector. He hurt her so bad she couldn't even be AROUND music. I love writing that makes me have to read between the lines like that. It's great. 😀 Also, even though we don't see them as a couple for long, they are SOOOO CUUUUTE! 😀 They're one of my favorite couples in anything every. Dont get me wrong I love the old classics but these new ones that have come out in the past decade gets your heart into it as well as life lessons! I have really fallen into love with people reacting to movies like this for the first time. I found Billy's music reaction channel about a year ago and just recently found his movie one and I've been binging lol
10:50... Chorizo is basically marinated sausage, kinda like breakfast sausage, but in this scene it has a double meaning. Thats why his friends were picking on Hector in how he passed. Mexican humor revolves around innuendos so Disney did a good job applying it for the adult audience, especially for the Mexicans. He died bc he had too much d i c k which tbh, it's the sorriest way to die.
Honestly I really love how this movie was respectful about my culture and it made me so happy when I watched it for the first time. Also I love how they animated the catrinos and the catrinas! Yes they are supposed to represent the dead but they really look like the catrinos :)
I love how they represent my heritage so well. I love this movie so much and it still makes me cry. My dad passed away a year after this movie came out so watching Hector sing his song to his daughter makes me think of my dad when he would sing to me.
Miguel has great talent learning an acoustic by ear and watching the tv and other musicians. He wasnt traditional taught and you could hear him playing Spanish guitar notes. The plucking strings.
I don't think too many people pay attention to the fact that the _famous_ guitar has a gold tooth, foreshadowing that its proper owner was Coco's father, rather than the one best-known for playing it. And, in the afterlife, skeletons can't bone... They need their flesh for that.
Holy crow, I never realized that! Next time I watch Coco, that will probs be the 1st thing I notice when Miguel is finishing his guitar, cuz he makes it exactly like Hector's guitar that de la Cruz stole.
@@Delcattiy Miguel's guitar also foreshadows Hector's role, because it's worn-down and dirty-white, like Hector, while Ernesto's skeleton is white and clean.
The first time I watched this movie, I knew it was classic from the moment they showed the Disney castle music with mariachi instruments. The whole beginning was emotional for me, since I was immediately transported to my childhood by seeing Miguel be a boy in Mexico. Felt like I was watching myself, it was awesome.
This movie is something else when you rewatch it with the knowledge that Hector is the grandfather. ; A ; Suddenly you understand all of his grievances with everything Ernesto (like how quickly he shut down the idea of Miguel playing Remember Me at the show) and see the little ways in which you can tell he was once a father. What sticks out the most to me tho is their argument after the talent show. It seems at first that Hector is being unnecessarily mean about Miguel's ambitions, then you realize that he's basically trying to stop this kid from becoming what he himself has. 😭 A kid who left his family for music and died in the process, torn away from the ones he loves forever. "You'll thank me later," he tells him.
To be honest, I like the Mexicans views on life and death more than America's. They believe that death isn't the end of one journey, it's the start of another one and that the spirits of those you love will always be with you; as long as you remember them, of course. Whereas in America, most people follow the Brian Griffin (or Seth MacFarlane) mentality and believe "dead people are just plain gone;" even some circles of Christians believe that

In the Philippines, we also practised that kind of holiday instead of celebrating Halloween. November 1 for All Saint's Day and November 2 for All Souls' Day. We also offered food for the loved ones that had passed. This movie is close to my heart and it made me cry so much.
Same here, in Slavic we also do that but not on those days. We share specials food with our dead on a regular basis but then after they passed away every 1,3,5,7, and 9 years there is that huge traditional festival like situation in my mom's village where we dress in traditional outfits and prepare lots of stuff: we decorate corn stalks with candies, prepare cakes, food, drinks, candles, pictures of the person who passed away and we want to honor, and a big mirror. Then we dance on traditional folk music all night in a circle holding all those items for the dead. And we give colored scarves to the people who danced to mark the end of our grieving period. It's also a way to celebrate the dead's life and give them a huge party.
@@daniellac.7588 that's very interesting! From what country is that tradition? I mean I am Slavic too (Polish) and we don't celebrate it that way, for us is just two days 1of November (All Saint's Day) and 2 of November (All Dead's Day), we go to cementary and just put a candle on the grave of our dead ones. But! that is beautiful how Slavic culture is diverse! I would love to read about your celebrations more :)
Hey Billy I just discovered your channel by chance and started binge-watching on your reaction videos. You are so entertaining to watch and most of your comments actually makes sense 😂.. After watching this reaction you did for Coco, I do want to suggest a movie that you could react next. It's the Book of Life - an animated movie and has the same feels with Coco but different story

#bingers Kubo and the Two Strings! Everyone talks about Coco, but most have forgotten Kubo, and it’s just not fair... Kubo came out first, and it has a similar theme (remembering loved ones after an epic journey with the dead, all centered around an instrument), but Kubo is also a stop-motion masterpiece. They shattered all records for biggest pieces, pieces destroyed by wear and tear while filming... Someone remember Kubo...
This movie made me cry like a baby. Mexico has such a beautiful culture of honoring their family, and the music and art is so wonderful and unique. 🇲🇽 (please tell me I got the flag right 😅)
The end of this movie where Hector's songs were remembered and Ernesto La Cruz had a 'Forget You' sign on his statue was absolutely hilarious. I died XD.🤣
This came out about a year or two after loosing my great grandma to dementia/Alzheimer's. God the end when Mama Coco remembered and was singing, then when she was reunited with her papa in the afterlife. Omg my heart, I was sobbing. In my Nana's last moments apparently she remembered her mother (I wasn't there)
Another great tearjerker of a movie is a little British film called “When the Wind Blows” It may have endearing elderly protagonists and charming animation style, but it is most emphatically NOT for kids, not due to language/violence/situations, but because this movie is one of the darkest, bleakest, most depressing films you’ll ever watch, this film WILL crush your soul, push you past the point of tears, and into just plain, unrelenting *numbness* It’s available on that website named after the big South American River...

One of the best parts of this movie is early in the credits. Where the crew has the largest ofrenda permanently in the credits, their families will never be forgotten. Makes my wife cry every time :)
Abuelita saying "he's better off forgotten" should of been a clue when I first saw it because Ernesto was never forgotten but Hector was. I saw this movie the first time at a theater here in NYC with Lin Manuel Miranda and the people that wrote the music for the movie. And I cried fr.
When my granny died, we used Remember Me (Spanish version) as a tribute song. My heart couldn't take it, my eyes were watering, she was the best part of my life
I was not brought up celebrating Dia De los Muertos so I didn't understand the hype. COCO explained this part of my Mexican Heritage to me at age 58. I understand it now. Billy, you made me laff so hard cuz I do speak Spanish and your commentary had me rolling. You know about that fearsome Chancla. Lol. Abuelita don't play. Such a fun reaction. TY.
Billy, stop saying "oh my heart!" Because I think your gonna start crying, your like mentally messing me up! "Billyyy stop playing with my heart...heart" I'ma stop now 😂
This movie means so much to me. Not because it’s a part of my culture alone. It’s because in 2017 both my abuelas passed away. Both before I got married that year. When I saw this movie with my soon to be husband, my heart was pained. I cried so much when Mama Coco and Miguel sang together. I especially cried when I saw Mama Coco’s pic being put on the ofrenda. It’s a wonderful movie to watch and I cry every time 🥰

The writers/animators actually put in A LOT of research into this movie. My mom was born and raised in Mexico and my grandparents moved their whole HUGE family to the US. There is so much in this movie that reminds me of my grandparents, aunts and uncles. Knowing the culture and language from birth makes this an extremely touching movie. Glad you enjoyed it. How do you NOT show the moment where they put Coco's picture up at the end!!! The most emotional scene!! I remember the whole theater went "awww" in unison... Such a heartbreaking moment 😢
When you watch Hercules, be sure to listen to the song during the end credits. Off camera, if you must. One of my personal favorite songs in Hercules. Though the music video is better than just watching the credits roll.
#bingers “Over the moon”. This isn’t a Disney animation but it has Disney vibes, and it’s directed by Glen Keane who has worked on many Disney movies (Aladdin, tangled, the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, Tarzan, and Pocahontas). Also, the songs are SO GOOD!
Over the Moon is a pretty good film, but for Keane this was his first full length film to direct. He was not a director in those other films, the later ones he may have been an executive producer, but he is credited as supervising animator and character designer most times. He's the artist behind major characters like Beast, Ariel, Tarzan, Pocahontas, and Aladdin, (and MANY other character) but he is not the director. Most of the films you listed are actually a great team of Ron Clements and John Musker (their most recent works being The Princess and the Frog and Moana).
My great father, who was puerto rican, used to make shoes and taught a musician how to play guitar and he was in a band. So I relate so much to this movie, it had me in tears!
Remember Me definitely brought on the tears, but Hector playing Proud Corazon at the end with Miguel made me ugly cry. I have so many family members that I've lost and the idea that they could be around me like that broke me. Coco is a beautiful movie that I've watched many times now. I saw this in theaters and loved it since I am Mexican but two weeks later my Abuelita passed and she looked just like Coco. I haven’t been able to watch it since but I still do love it very much. Glad you enjoyed it!

Ernesto did what a lot of these rappers do irl so he was realistically stupid 😂😂
I would say he's stupid yeah but the way you're overreacting it is cringey. 😬 It's more likely about his narcissism. I wouldn't say he's as stupid as you say when he was actually able to take his secret to the grave, until our anomaly Miguel no one expected came.
@@FlyyGirl1000 also he’s so uncreative that he can’t even think of something original in his movies, just like he can’t create his own music
It’s actually pretty common for murderers to give away themselves stupidly. They get away with something once and they think they’re invincible and untouchable, that’s why so many of them get caught. They let their egos run the show and it ends up slipping out what they really did eventually.
Ernesto Delacruz is probably one of the scariest disney villains ever cause he's so human and real
He really is tho!!! Thank you for watching ❤️
@@BillyBinges Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this film!
And Gaston.
Ernesto, Gaston, and Mother Gothel are the WORST!
But frollo is even scarier. I would put ernesto in the top three though.
@@JavaJane87 nah, Frollo by far deserves top 3. He murdered Quasimodo's mother and tried to drown him as a baby in a well, and instead imprisoned him in a church bell tower for several years into adulthood, manipulating him to believe there was no good outside while he continued to abuse him mentally. Frollo burned most of Paris looking for Esmerelda and eventually tried to burn her at the stake for being a gypsy. The way he represents so much evil hiding behind the veil of religion and morality is so real and that's why he's so terrifying.

I cried cause a month or so ago my grandmother passed away, and she had dementia, like I believe Mama Coco did. It hit home when Coco remembered everything... My grandma never had a moment like that. I really like that the conflict comes from an event in living memory. His grandmother is so fierce about music because she got to see in her own lifetime the pain Coco and Imelda went through because of Hector disappearing. It makes the premise less ridiculous.
Dante is a Xoloitzcuintle, and that breed of dog is believed to guide the souls to Mictlan, which is the Aztec underworld. That's why he can see Miguel

Forgot to mention: I love the line, "that's for murdering the love of my life." It's such a deep line, that you can't really digest in the first watch, and it's great.

I don't think too many people pay attention to the fact that the _famous_ guitar has a gold tooth, foreshadowing that its proper owner was Coco's father, rather than the one best-known for playing it.

@@Delcattiy Miguel's guitar also foreshadows Hector's role, because it's worn-down and dirty-white, like Hector, while Ernesto's skeleton is white and clean.
16:56 “The Lies. THE LIES!” Yo, I was weak! That was so hilarious 🤣
Everytime I want to cry I just go listen to "Remember me" lol
Billy's reaction to this is just funny 😂 9:26- 9:40 I'm dying 🤣😂🤣 "She said Bequita and the dang gArGoYlE came out the Sky"
To be honest, I like the Mexicans views on life and death more than America's.
They believe that death isn't the end of one journey, it's the start of another one and that the spirits of those you love will always be with you; as long as you remember them, of course.
Whereas in America, most people follow the Brian Griffin (or Seth MacFarlane) mentality and believe "dead people are just plain gone;" even some circles of Christians believe that
In America we profit off of death instead.

Same as Haiti, November 1st is a day for the dead, to celebrate them, visit, bring food and all that.
@@daniellac.7588 that's very interesting! From what country is that tradition? Over the Moon is a pretty good film, but for Keane this was his first full length film to direct. He was not a director in those other films, the later ones he may have been an executive producer, but he is credited as supervising animator and character designer most times. He's the artist behind major characters like Beast, Ariel, Tarzan, Pocahontas, and Aladdin, (and MANY other character) but he is not the director. Most of the films you listed are actually a great team of Ron Clements and John Musker (their most recent works being The Princess and the Frog and Moana).
@@omoidashu oh I was super misinformed, thanks for clearing that up :)
Over the moon was too cute, cried almost three times when I first saw it!! I'd love for him to see it too!
Ohhh it was amazing...
I love this movie!
My great father, who was puerto rican, used to make shoes and taught a musician how to play guitar and he was in a band. So I relate so much to this movie, it had me in tears!
You had me in tears with all your comments. Mostly from laughing but some from when mama coco was singing. Your reactions are the best
Remember Me definitely brought on the tears, but Hector playing Proud Corazon at the end with Miguel made me ugly cry. I have so many family members that I've lost and the idea that they could be around me like that broke me. Coco is a beautiful movie that I've watched many times now. Pixar always knows how to tug on your heart strings.
I saw this in theaters and loved it since I am Mexican but two weeks later my Abuelita passed and she looked just like Coco. I haven’t been able to watch it since but I still do love it very much. Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh I love this movie you should do #binges Anastasia next

And, perhaps, "An American Tail," if it's available somewhere.
