I think the fact that the gimmick of Benjamin Button is more remembered than what it's actually about speaks volumes.

Nice that your Top 5 is my exact Top 5 as well.
    1) Fight Club: Pulls off as a Stern warning to an audience and a Satire that dosen't take itself seriously at the same time. A movie that was ultra daring and pulls out all the stops and it all works. Pitt's best performance of his career and Norton hits it out the Ball park as always. A movie so divisive Roger Ebert slammed the film for years despite admitting he didn't really get the film. But it works for me. Fincher's masterpiece
    2) Social Network. I was in College when this Movie came out. I laughed and didn't think it would be serious at all. Then Fincher/Sorkin got involved and I got intrigued. Saw it opening weekend and thought it was pretty good. Then got the DVD and got better w/ every watch. Watched it again. Man.....this film is brilliant. Great screenplay, cinematography and perfect performances all around. A pure tale of how money and power can ruin friendships. And how a revolutionary website connected people worldwide.....yet leaves them isolated at the same time. Great Movie that would be #1 But Fight Club is Superior
    3) se7en: 1st Fincher film I ever seen. Don't need to talk about cinematography, screenplay, performances and possibly the best ending to any of Fincher's films on this list. The 1 thing that makes it 3rd, and Hot Take, I think Brad Pitt was miscast in this film. I think he's a fine actor and enjoy most of his work. I did not like him here. His performance alone kinda pulls the film down at times. But the ending would not have happened w/o him so ill live with it. Plus yea, Kevin Spacey is playing himself
    4) Zodiac: The most underrated film in Fincher's catalog. I call this the "Jackie Brown" in his filmography. A movie that did decent Box office wise but was largely forgotten afterwards. But the 3 leads in Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey and Ruffalo all stand out. Has that gritty Fincher ascetic and feel that you get with many of his films. Plus a very daring ending to where there is no conclusion at the end. Plus the violence here is more subdued, but still effective. 1 death scene only lasts 10 seconds but is very haunting. Possibly the best death scene he's ever filmed. Only complaint is it kinda drags in parts and you need yo invest your time in watching. But patience will definitely be worth it
    5) Gone Girl: This movie shows how twisted my sense of humor can be. This is Arguably the Darkest comedy that's come out in 20 years. Fincher has been called "misogynistic" for years, I personally think he's pulling a joke on the audience: Make the most soulless, despicable character he's ever put on screen a suburban upper class white women, and watch if feminists actually will defend her actions on screen. This film is a test on forgiveness and choosing sides. You have 2 awful people who are together and a couple and a "scandel" happens. Who's side are you taking, and who's sins are you willing to forgive. I haven't seen this movie in a whole, but everytime I do I get a kick out of it. I think it's a pure satire of upper class society and how fake it truly is and filled with unredeemable people. And I love it. Also like the fact Fincher trolled his audience w/ this movie.
    The rest of his films:
The Game: Strong Beginning and Middle. Weak at the end. Almost a cop out ebding when the whole film was dark. But good film overall
The Killer: Seen it once. Honestly underrated. Dosent get the love it should
Panic Room: Generic home invasion movie. Fincher was a director for hire. Not bad but not memorable
Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo: Has everything that should work with Fincher and its......ok. Nothing exceptional here. Plus was a failed attempt at a Franchise because it was a Mediocre Box office. Need to see it again
Alien 3: Enjoyable from what I remember. Vastly inferior to the 1st 2 Aliens but better then the Aliens films that followed it. Pure Director for hire and the only film Fincher flats out disown
Benjamin Button: A Forrest Gump rip-off that dosent work. Only film of his I flat out don't like at all
