- Hi this is a video showing the parts installed into my BBF 460/523 engine build. she made 702HP and 647ftlbs of torque
what a monster
its going into my 1978 Ford Falcon XC
Great video and thanks for sharing. I learned so much.
Sweet, great power!!
I would of dropped a roller in there instead of those flat tappets . It definitely frees up the friction .
Yeah, flat tappet is old tech
Awesome vid mate, brings back so many memories.I built a Scat 557 BBF with Cobra Jet Heads 15 years ago with twin Holleys. Can i ask the cam specs please ?
Hi Matthew, please let me know what type of cam and the specs, compression, head and valve train info etc. Thank you !
What camshaft was used ? Specs Hyd cam or solid lift
Who made the timing cover?
Stout. I wish it was common to see wider dyno pulls but I understand you're tuning in a range by this point since that's what he said. I'd like to see a 0 x-y axis from at least as low as 2500. I wish it was a standard that this was the final dyno pull of any engine, across the widest range possible. The BBF does great at 'flat' power curves which just means more total power available across the range which means more than peak. Those CJ heads are actually great at it.
This engine has a really large cam I don’t imagine the hp would be worth testing that low? I think if you apply load below the torque band it will just stall
@@matthewpatmore7487 He would like to see the torque and hp down as low as 2500 and I completely agree. Especially those of us thinking street motors. Unless this is a race motor, it will not stall at that range.
@@Tenn1972 it is a race motor 😂 more than most naturally aspirated race cars including v8 super cars….. please do tell me what my engine stalled at…..
this was a wide power pull the Dyno started reading at 4000rpm 474hp and 614ft lbs torque - 4500rpm 546hp and 638ft lbs torque 5000rpm 615hp and 646ft lbs torque 5500rpm 657hp 627ft lbs torque 6000rpm 684hp 599ft lbs torque 6500rpm 702hp 567ft lbs torque 7000rpm 701hp 558ft lbs torque…… there’s 3000rpm worth of dyno… I still don’t understand why bother with what power it makes at 2500rpm if you seen how quickly it reved from idle to 4000rpm it’s milli seconds \ I could not put the car in 5th or 6th gear on the highway as it was below 3000rpm and the engine got very unhappy, so I would put it back in 4th gear and later sold the 6 speed manual and opted for a auto trans with a 4000rpm stall Convertor…… my advice you want a street car to idle around in… don’t have a cam that needs rpm… anyways I sold that engine to a mate of mine he’s throwing nitrous at it and upgraded it some more. I’m building a new A460 Motorsport big block 572 cubes with kaase boss 9 heads on it, I’ll post the dyno of it when it’s ready in the coming months
@@matthewpatmore7487 Very sorry to offend you. If it is a race motor, then a 2500 RPM figure is not going to matter at all. We have seen Street motors (pump gas) that made a little more power so it is always interesting to compare. What is the compression ratio? Are you able to run on pump gas? In the US we have 91 octane across the country but 93 is available in many places as well. Gas are always high. Thanks
@@Tenn1972 you didn’t offend me, alot of people commenting making assumptions without knowing, that engine was pump gas (I say was… because if you read my last comment I mentioned I sold that engine 👆) compression was 11.4-1 running our 98octane (equivalent to your 93octane I believe) I know street motors can make more but 7or 8 years ago when this one was built it was up there - my new big block being assembled atm is 572 cubes and will be running pump gas but should make 1000 up 🤞see how it goes
This build makes me excited to see mine will do. Similar build with same heads. Seem you said heavuly ported. Do you have images of the head ports and care to share?
Yeah I’ll show you the ported heads
Have to add me on Insta or Facebook to get the photos, cheers
Aussies Build Top Notch Shit as Well! Love It!
What are the cam specs and how much compression are you running? I have the same heads with stock rods and bore when 10:5 compression. Never had the engine on a dyno but am guessing I have around 500HP. I plan to get a stoker kit and up the compression along with a bigger cam and am curious to see how much power I will get out of that combo.
Comp is 10.8-1 cam is 270@50 the heads I have are heavily ported also
:)
@@matthewpatmore7487 nice, thanks for the reply.
Is this engine for sale ?
I have a 460
300 plus k on it so I stroke it
We’re did you find the Timming cover ?
www.bulletraceengineering.com.au/accessories
Man I want to build a 460 up like that but I don't even know where to start or how much it will set me back 😢🤣
Speak to a good engine builder they can point you in the right direction
This one ☝️ cost me just under $30,000
Yes I could have made 700 hp for less but you can’t put a price on reliability, I have friends with similar combos that drag race every year and only need a engine freshen after 10 years mostly cause they want more horsepower 😂
Just bought a 1977 Thunderbird with a 400 that I want to stoke. Is there any info on engine builders?
Where do you live? Also the 400 is a different engine to my 460 that I had built
Those 400 motors are CRAP. You need a real 429/460 block
what happened to the low rise twin 4 manifold?
It’s on the car now with Holley sniper setup instead of the fitech which I had problems with
where did you get the twin low riser intake an who makes it iv been looking for you for years.@@matthewpatmore7487
At about 0.40 seconds is that an engine fire in the background? Lol
I have a 72 Lincoln original 460 82,000 original miles what would it cost to build this motor or rebuild it like this one
Hi :) I built this one a couple of years ago, cost me $30,000 completed but prices have gone up since then 😳 I’m building a new bigger big block ford atm and the prices are scary 😧
Speak to your local performance shop for a quote or speak to other big block owners to see where they suggest to get your engine rebuilt 👍
I just built a 532 with the newer super cobra jet heads. the short block cost me around 7500 but that was with me building it after machine work. 15K is probably what I would have spent if I started from the ground up.
fuckin 30 and play with it /// that go well in my 70s f truck
I see a SCAT crank. Rods and pistons?
Correct it’s a Scat 4340 forged crank, Scat 4340 forged H beam rods and Probe SRS forged pistons. Cheers
Nice. FORD. First On Race Day. 💪💪💪
Is it possible to just buy one that’s already rebuilt just like this one
There are many performance shops that will build you a motor like this, where are you located?
@@matthewpatmore7487 I am located in Las Vegas Nevada
Ford Motorsport still sells a BBF crate engine that is I think 630 horse. It uses their A460 block which isn't even available bare anymore.
How much would you say you got invested in it?
If your referring to the engine alone? I spent close to 30 thousand when it was finished dynoed shipped and installed in the car
@@matthewpatmore7487 30k Aussie money?
@@superkillr yes
The guys at Engine Power, primarily (Pat Topolinski), built a 632 inch BBC and the dyno revealed
1022 hp. Jon Kasse built a 598 inch BBF 'with similar specs' to the BBC stated Pat, and the BBF made
1108 hp.The BBF made 86 more hp with 34 fewer inches. "Barely edged out" the BBC quipped Pat.

Hi, I’m sorry but what’s your point?
@@matthewpatmore7487 Hi Matthew: No offense intended; are you serious?
@@michaellee891 I’m not offended, it just doesn’t make any sense to post that link on my video ?
I have watched the SR71 Kaase build long before I posted my video it’s been out for years, I even have a pair of SR71 heads myself…. I was putting them on a 598 with exactly the same setup as that 1108hp setup until it didn’t clear my bonnet so have now got Boss 9 heads 🥳
I just don’t know what it all has to do with my old build ?
This was built 5 years ago by the way 😅 and I sold it to a mate to build a A460 block
@@matthewpatmore7487 Matthew It was more of a jab at Pat and the BBC. I'm surprised
you didn't see it that way. If Kasse's heads were around in the 60's the 385 series BBF would have been the dominant power in Drag racing. There are several advantages to
the A460 block, but the stock block has been making big HP for many years. Finally,
it doesn't have anything to do with your build mate; it was simply a plug for the BBF.
@@michaellee891 Ohk no worries :D
My new A460 block is added insurance since I’ll be pushing 1000 horsepower and even Kaase says that’s the limit of a factory block
I’m using a set of heavily ported boss 9 heads 🥳 I’m pretty excited as we recently dummy fit the whole setup into my 1971 mustang and it fits 😯 almost as if it was intended to have a boss 429 from factory 🤔 😂
bad audio. must be aussies
I am Australian… very good observation 👌
i watched. it was a good video
Get rid of the 30 Year old CJ heads and run the AFR's. You will be impressed
That will be a lot of money for minor gains I think 🤔 these heads have been professionally ported and flow 354cdm @ 650 lift
My lsx dr heads for a sbe flow 452.hahaha
Hmmmm, funny. No video of those LS heads. Always here people talkin 🤡… impressive power from your BBF! It’ll still be cranking out those impressive numbers when that LS is a boat anchor.
@@brianrichey7269 Who runs a BBF? Honestly? No I don't have an LS, I have a 434 SBF..
I’m running a little 521 now. used to run a 302. Early trick flow twisted wedge with a vortec. It made 609 back in 1993. 6.76/10.51 quarter. That was a daily driver. Fast back then. Now that’s not that impressive anymore. All my Chevy buddies that talked crap disappeared. I’d love to build a stroker small block for a 79 2 door box top Fairmont I picked up CHEAP. It’s a granny car. Still got the manual in the glove box. I’ve got a lot of catching up go do to start that build. You like the AFR’s. Bbf heads are evolving fast now. Seems small block heads are to.
I bought a F&^$TECH carb- a while back it would not work so I called the guys up he walked me thru- a few things then he said hmm check the fuss so I did it was blown so I only had a 10 amp I think it was a 20 amp in it cuz this was 6 year ago so I'm on the phone with this guy put in my 10 amp hooked power wire back to the batter and POOOF smoke came out of the carb- made a nice SHHHH sound and that was it. Then I was told send it back a my cost yep nearly $70.00 dollars of my money. Never buy from these &^$@holes. Buy the Holley Sniper cuz its your money your gonna be out of like me cuz those ^%# don't care about your bank acc only there's.
Thank you for the advice 😎 I actually never ran FItech I ran it in with a quick fuel 1150 dominator carby and it went so well it stayed like that for a while. I did purchase Holley sniper dual quad setup but never started it (sold the engine to a friend for drag wee) and commenced building a bigger Ford Big Block 🥳
