- In this video, I will show how to remove cistern lid. There are 3 commonly mounted cistern lid styles and I will explain how to remove all three. Watch this video to find out how to remove a cistern lid, so that you may carry out repairs.
after an afternoon beer, i finally got the courage to try fixing my toilet that hadnt been flushing all day, this video was the last one i needed to find to figure it out. Three cheers for not having to pay for a plumber🎉🎉🎉
Great - thanks, now how do I fix the cistern not filling up?
Sorry for the late response, it has been a super busy week. It could be one of two things. If you take the cistern lid off, is water flowing into the cistern? If it is, but the cistern isn't filling it will be an issue with your siphon. You may be able to replace the diaphragm if it's the older style of siphon, if it's a more modern style you will need to replace the siphon. Both require you to remove the cistern so in all honesty if it were mine, I would just replace it for new.
If there is no water flowing into the cistern, you will need a new cistern fill valve, these also have serviceable parts costing around £3/4 for a repair kit however, a new fill valve starts at around £8 so I would be more inclined to replace for new.
Good luck!
What if mine doesn't have any of these options work? It is not a screwtop, nothing to lift one button out, and the lid doesn't just pick up. I had to break one of the flushing mechanisms on the one toilet to get into the cistern. But I hope to find a non-brute-force way for this next one.
Hi, you've tried turning the whole mechanism?
@@DIYTipstricksandhacks I did. Stopped when I heard the plastic start to crack.
Are you able to email a picture to contactdiytipstrickshacks@gmail.com?
Thank you, seems simple but I didn't think it needed to screw out when most other youtube videos show the kind that need a screwdriver.
Güzel anlatım. teşekkür ederim
Σε ευχαριστώ πολύ αυτό ήξερα πως ανοίγει το καζανάκι
أهلا
Thank
Mine doesn't have a screw and still won't open. Won't turn either
Does the cistern lid just lift off? I'm trying to think back if I have ever come across another type before but I don't think I have. If there's not a screw and it doesn't just lift off then the whole button must unscrew, sometimes they can be pretty tight.
