I was very sceptical this would work as the water was running like a waterfall, but it worked!!! Thank you so much! I never had a dad around to show me or ask about this kind of stuff and your channel is very helpful :)
You're welcome!
I have a dad but I still don’t know how to do this 😭
@@dzuni_😂😂 don't let your dad see your comment ...
Was so stressed because my toilet stopped flushing. Watched this and did exactly as he did. And it started working. Can officially say I’m a qualified UA-cam plumber. This definitely saved me money and headache 🎉🎉
That`s great.
Great video - my husbands been meaning to fix our flush for months....I got sick of waiting, found your video and fixed it myself 👍🏻 Thankyou for your help!
You're welcome!
Great fix, although you put it back the same way.
I know. Was just checking you were paying attention ha ha.
just to show my gratitude to you because you gave me the confidence to go out there, bought my toilet parts for only £12.99...followed your instruction, changed the flusher....saved myself plumber fees! you empowered me...thank you!
Glad you sorted it ok.
This saved me calling a plumber to do a 5 min job. thank you very much!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much!
I'm on my own now, and pushing up on my 70th year. I knew how to fix the old ones, and my wonderful husband used to fix everything asap when he was still around, but this new-fangled push-button type had me stumped.
After coaxing and teasing with the mechanism to try to get it to stop leaking water, without success, I'd had enough and decided UA-cam was my answer.
And here you are! Bless you, Sir.
No problem 😊
Thank you!!!!!!!! Saved me from my wife!
lol
Haha 😂
these new age toilets are nothing but junk nothing is made of good quality anymore I'd rather the old fashion toilet
Yes me too Elliot.
Old is gold 😂
Most helpful video 8 years later :)
Glad to hear it!
many thanks, a five minute fix for what i thought was going to be a long fiddly job, cheers.
No problem.
hi there great vid , i need to replace 2 of these because the push mechanism is beyond fixing , what do i call them when searching online ?
Push button flush mechanism. girberit.
@@dereton33 ok nice one , il give them a search. cheers
Thank you so much! Husband was away and am so happy that I came across your video as the leaking was driving me nuts. Now I can say to the children, mum fixed the toilet. 😊
Same here! So proud of myself . Regular ol' certified plumber now 😂😂
Oh I’m so excited because I’ve just done this to my toilet and so far I can’t hear the annoying dripping sound that we have been hearing for the past few weeks 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Thank you so much 👊
That`s great well done Debs.
I’ve learned a lot from this guy over the years. Down to earth sort of chat and really helpful. Saved me a fortune in plumbers’ costs. Lovely English accent too.
Thanks a lot Barry.
agreed
Anyone know where he does his business???
@@chrisidakarunathilake4310 in a toilet that always flushes!! 😂
Great tip about the washer. Mine had raised lettering on the one side so I figured the raised lettering would prevent proper seal. Just cleaned it well and reinstalled it smooth side down. Also cleaned inside where it seals to the body inside the toilet. Looks like this worked.
Second issue was my unit does not screw off, there are tabs on either side that have to be released. Not much room for my gnarly hands so i used a boot lace, hooked under the tab and pulled. Replacement gaskets for most name brand units are available on line. If unsure, take the gasket to local plumbing supply or big box hdw stores and compare to get the proper one.
The boot lace tip is genius! Nice one.
Thank you, very much appreciate you share your knowledge!!! I was able to very easily fix my problem. Thank you again, save the hassle to call a plumber in COVID-19 times!
You're welcome!
Perfect quick fix. Exactly what I needed. Thank you for posting!
You're welcome!
Al, this video is genius! Took five minutes to watch your video and it was so well explained it took me only 1 minute to implement the fix!
No problem, pleased you fixed it OK.
What a great idea. Literally just bought a new syphon as mine while it does seal isn't snapping shut like it used to. Generally this is the beginning of the end. What I didn't realise is you could simply twist out the mechanism, I'd normally just disassemble everything / replace the lot. While not hard, it takes time and a new close coupler is required. For the sake of a few quid I'd always replace this, last thing you want is a leak on engaging the flush mechanism. Thanks very much, really love your videos.
Thanks Glenn.
You're a life saver, mate! Saved me a couple of Andrew Jackson's by just flipping that washer around. Much obliged!
No problem.
I might have to spend a couple benj Franklin :(
Thank you so much. I have had this problems for 2 weeks and with this video I just fixed mine. No plumbers can visit with the pandemic. Twas so helpful
Glad it helped
Great advice - fixed my drip in under a minute - thanks!!!!!
Basically did the same today and it worked
Great Brian.
dang he's so rough with that washer. imagine him operating his first gf
She might of loved it.
Can I ask a slightly different question as my syphin is slightly different but I am sure they work the same - I want more of a flush so do I adjust the orange tag height on your syphin or is it all in fill side to adjust ball cock height
You can adjust the Valve to put more water into the cistern. The slider also adjust how much water will flush.
How come there's no water refill pipe on this??
Maybe I misunderstand your question? The water fill is the dark blue and white valve to the left of the cistern. He mentions it at the beginning when he says if there is water going down the overflow, then adjust the valve.
Is there any way to fix a sticking "open" valve? Seal is fine (for now) but valve sticks open and I need to remove and pull down to stop the flush.
Not that I know of.
Thanks mate, saved me a plumber call out! Cheers.
Wow what a clever man , it took me weeks I couldn’t figure out the problem, watching you video I fixated in few minutes ,
Thank you so much, god bless you 👍🙏.
You're welcome!
Thank you so so much sir. I hope this fixes my leak.
Tyvm for this video & one of your other ones. My mother puts them toilet cistern blocks into the top of the toilet, and ironically that's what it did do, blocked the toilet. Underneath where you push the button the toilet cistern block was stuck in there, so this video educated me how to pull it out and fix it.
Excellent video sir! Simple and direct. Got my fixed under 5 minutes.
Are my hero ❤
Saved me both time and $ 😊
Turns out, there was just a chunk of debris stopping the seal from closing and there actually wasn't anything wrong with the seal at all 😂
But this vid gave me to courage to pull the toilet guts out rather than calling a plumber, so thank you very much 🙏
No problem . Glad you sorted it out ok.
Thank you! What an easy fix. I was dreading taking the whole thing apart. You’re a life saver.
You're welcome!
Thanks for posting this video Sir, worked for me!
No problem Sandman.
Ive not been able to afford a plumber and my toilets been running non stop for weeks, even after watching many, many different tutorials on how to fix it then just watched your little nugget of gold..and its fixed!!! The best vid ive watched on here, easy to follow even for a novice like me :-) Thanks!

Thank you. So many rabbiters over- complicating it. Exactly what I needed.

this totally worked! thank you!
Are these dual flush toilets a PAIN IN THE ARSE??? (Was thinking bout getting one)???
Thank you! We just moved to a house that we are renting and I couldn't figure it out on my own. Your instructions and advice worked great.
Al what about putting some silicone around in a circle on the washer ???
Yes worth a try.
Thank you so much, I was so worried that sorting this out would cost loads! What a relief :)
No problem Amy.
Salamat po Lolo! Madaling unawain.
Thanks.
It went back on the same way. WTF!?
HAHAHAHHA ikr how did no one else notice that? I think the principle still applies though
It was just for demonstration purposes, there was nothing wrong with my syphon. Just trying to help you all out and I get a comment like WTF.
FIXED! and DONATED... and subscribed. THANKYOU!! People ....if he's helped you DONATE! You are brilliant.. and very kind to share this...
Wow, thank you! Also for the kind donation. All the best Jill.
unfortunately, for my case the whole tube would came off. i did try turning left and right before pulling. wouldn't dare to try too hard
One of the odd ones.
Thank you for sharing ! I followed your instruction and It worked but still tiny amount of leakage is there but much better thank you so much ! 🙏🤝
No problem.
Thanks for this video, extremely helpful!
You're very welcome!
Been trying to get that Piece out, Thanks for sharing your Video, It worked for me, Great Simple Video, Thank You.

You're welcome!
Great video, so easy to follow. Great teaching skills. Very many thanks.
Thanks Chris.
This solve my problem because it wasnt the problem, but I did find what was really happening and able to fix, so i will keep this in my back pocket. Thank you so much!!!!!
No problem.
So I’m having a similar issue.Toilet constantly flows. I’ve replaced the Geberit flush valve with a new one. It worked for a couple of days but is back to where it started. Going to try and clean the bottom seal and see if that makes a difference.
Worth a go
So glad I saw your UA-cam video. I had this exact problem and after watching I thought I'd have a go.
2mins or less later it was fixed. Brilliant, thank you so much.
I do have one question though. Where do I get a replacement washer ?
Amazon do them or any plumbing shop
Thank you so much for this video!! Appreciate you!!
You are so welcome!
Saved me from a shitty situation!
I really thought I’d have to replace the whole unit, having to remove the cistern etc., I had no idea the mechanism could be removed so easily. Replaced the washer, and bingo, all fixed! Thanks so much, you saved me loads of time, trouble and money 👍👍
You are welcome!
Just watched your video and thought give it a go..... 58 year old female, no DIY skills.... but I've fixed my toilet! Thank you so much for such straightforward advice and easy to follow video.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh been driving me mad.
THANK YOU!
No problem.
Thank u for sharing. Very helpful infor. I'm going to fix ours....in the middle of the nite. The kids are saying" theres water in the cistern but it won't flush". So now...mum to the rescue n be the midnite plumber.👍😂😂🤣🤣 Gud nite all.
Good luck!!
Worked for me :)
i have a push button connected to a wire......it's different, the lid is attached by the wire to the cistern...
Many thanks for this, had a slightly different problem... constant dripping.....water torture😂 so saw how to remove the mechanism, clean up the siphon, washer and turn it round..... stopped the dripping 🙏
Great Ian.
Thank you so much, it is work. From Taiwan.
You are welcome
Oh, so close. I flipped the seal and turned the water back on. It filled up quickly and I thought "success!" Then I flushed and the same problem persisted. It takes about 2 minutes to fill instead of the 20-30 seconds it had, and it's considerably louder too. I will keep looking for the fix, but thanks very much for this one!
The valve has some debris in it from when you turned the water off.
My doo dar doesn't seem to twist off and I don't wanna force it... any other ways? I cant feel any clips as someone suggested. TIA
Yours is a fixed one. So you will have to replace the whole unit.
Hey Big Al a UA-cam video that just keeps giving..Fixed my problem instantly...thanks mate
No problem 👍
Thanks for this video. I think the push button mechanism washer is gone or something is in the way of the seal. But the overflow on mine is also active. Do you just turn the screw at the top to adjust the float?
Yes just screw it in.
Thank you! I tried this right now and it WORKED!!! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Great advice which worked first time. Thank you Sir.
No problem Lyn.
Thank you so much for your video it’s saved me a tonne of time and money, I feel so proud I actually fixed it all by myself
You're welcome!
WOW! , i just fixed my leaking toilet with this video ! This saved my day, time and $$ .. awesome !, thank your very much !👍👍👍
You're welcome!
Tanto les cuesta poner una llave de paso, en vez de un tornillo?
That really helped Sir. One question though, is the blue main flush or push release. Also how to adjust the cyphen?
Blue is main flush. There is a sliding rod lower down on the syphon that adjust the amount of flush.
@@dereton33 I just figured out that white is main flush. Blue is for push flush. That sliding controls the amount of water. White button is emptying fully. Blue is limiting in my case. It depends on the color code. If sliding button is blue than blue has to be the limiter.
Thanks for that. Will this stop ghost/phantom flushing? In my case water does not run down into the bowl. What happen, several times a day, is that there is flushing down followed by a big thump. It happens day and/or night. There are lots of videos for the American system to stop this phenomenon but not for the UK system. Help. Thank you
Check the ball valve is not letting by.
unskilled plumber quarrel with ehe components
Try not to swear too much. Ha ha.
Hi there. I’ve got a new system like your 2nd one in this video. If I take the cistern lid off the flush is perfect pushed manually. But from the actual push buttons, I think the prongs inside don’t push on the syphon is it ? Like they’re not reaching it as the flush stops short ? What can I do ? Had the plumber out already and he adjusted the flush to a longer one. The toilet is brand new
Adjust the push rods to teach the buttons correctly.
I have this exact toilet - How do I stop the button/flush from thumping once pressed? I have tried to adjust the pins on the underside of the lid, but no luck - at 3am when the family flush, it's quite loud!! Thanks
If you have a thumper, then the only recourse is to renew the syphon.
I tried this and it didn't work for me unfortunately. I could of bought a $25cdn replacement on Amazon or try some chain lube first. Chain lube worked like a charm!
Thats great.
Thanks mate watched a few videos & this was by far the best. For my toilet the black plastic screw part for the button had also come lose which also helped fix the issue, as before hand the button would spin in any direction
Great.
My flush valve developed an issue today (hence why I'm here). The bit that moves up and down, that the washer is on, is sticking in the up position and stopping the cistern filling up. I can put my hand in and push it down, but I don't want to keep doing that. Is there a way to stop it sticking, or should I just get a new one?
Get a new one.
After you’ve flipped the rubber gasket, and it STILL leaks, where do you get the part, replacement? rod
Amazon. It is a Gerbit part.
Thanks buddy ; very helpful !
No problem 👍
Hi, My problem is a bit different in the way I press the cistern button, but it wont always give me the whole 8 secs of flushing! It will just momentary flush then stop so i have to push it again or hold my finger on it. How can I fix this??
Thanks.Tim
A new siphon Tim. Cant fix that problem, too much wear.
Mine wasn't a drip issue but more of a button issue. Like the button gets stuck
Can get that sometimes.
Omg it worked! I have been turning on and off the water supply to save the flowing water. But i really couldnt pull that rubber because its too tight and im afraid that i would break the entire thing since its made of plastic that has been in water for a long time. Then i remember that i have another toilet that i didn't use in my house, so i switched them. Weirdly enough, both toilet are okay now! (?)
That`s great.
Thanks to this video i was able to understand the mechanism, figure how to remove and reconnect my flushing valve in 5 mins…valve had disconnected from the cylinder which is why it wouldn’t flush 😊
That's great
This was so helpful. Thank you! Brilliant
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome Man. I was dreading to fix leaking and this video has saved lot of money. Thanks heaps. God bless you
You're welcome!
Thank you so match, I got this problems for a months and I don’t have part to replace it found your video and do exactly what you did and it’s fix I hope it last
You're welcome!
saved my day. very helpful. thanks
Glad it helped!
You sir , are a gent . Saved a fortune and am now a d.i.y superhero . Right -- I'm off to build something .. ( aye right ! ) ;-)
Thanks mate.
I decided to go back to the single flush commode where fixing does not require a $250 call to a plumber.
Good idea.
