Nestor with his grandmother is too sweet. And I never knew a dovecote was actually for doves. I thought it was just an architectural term. Thanks for saving me the research Mapperton! 😉
I dont mind the lovely banter. I know those who have shown their disappointment and lectured Julie to treat her husband more kindly could and should just scroll past. One isnt required to watch OR even comment. I thoroughly enjoyed this segment and loved the hidden areas. 😊
I love how she's embraced her life across the pond and what's she's married into ... I also love that his parents have passed the torch so to speak and how these videos and channels are aiding in keeping the beauty and the overall appeal of the estate and it's grounds alive ... being here in the states we don't have this kind of history and tbh I'm truly envious of her but so happy for her at the same time, these two are such a wonderful couple together and not only are they but their children are all so very grounded ... speaks volumes on their characters. ❤
Julie you have to restore the adorable summer house ! It’s so special and overlooks the pool that you love. ❤ you always make your projects so special.
A man who shamelessly flirts with his in front of the camera is a keeper.😊

Super idea to show these hidden places ! And this metal detecting moment at 32:00 really thrilled us ! It's a really good idea to show the estate in different ways, For our next UK road trip we'll definitely consider a stop to visit Mapperton House! Happy New Year 🎉
I really enjoyed this particular vlog. The banter between the two of you is so entertaining. Your husband is welcomed to speak more as he has a wealth of knowledge and pride about his family and the property in which you both reside. I hope to visit one day in support of your ongoing projects at the estate. I have been binge-watching for the last few days. Thanks for sharing. You all are truly blessed for the opportunity to live in such a magical place.
Yes! Please! Part 6,7,8 too!!! I just love these properties, I’m absolutely fascinated at the history of families being anywhere for over 200 years, I’m an Australian, we just don’t have any buildings with the history here!!! I would be so happy if someone allowed me to walk around their ancestral home and just take it all in, my dream come true! I will get to England one day, and I know I’ll want to stay! I’m happy to live as a hermit in the garden grotto! It’s all I need! 😂❤❤
I truly enjoyed every bit of this episode! Nestor with his grandmother was just absolutely precious. Julie and Luke, you two with your teasing and banter make me laugh so much! You’re just so enjoyable all around.
Thanks Julie and Luke for a fascinating video.. I love exploring hidden places. I don't know whether it was William or Nestor with the Countess of Sandwich, but what a well mannered and well spoken young man . He is a credit to you !
That was Nestor. Last weekend's video had William in it, and they stated that it was his first time in a video. He and Nestor certainly have a strong family resemblance.
@@Maximusrex4575 Thank you, I thought he looked a bit young to be William. He's got some of Luke's mannerisms. I saw William in the video the other week. He is also a very polite and well spoken young man .
The farmhouse is a gem! Keep it simple! Natural old wood floors! Simplicity and quality! Open space for children to run! Hide away and be together atmosphere! Bingo!👏👍🥰
I can’t believe you have lived there for 20 years and not explored the house and the grounds. Every thunder storm I would grab my flashlight and would be gone. Lol
❤❤The Summer house wouldbe lovely cleaned out, heated and a space for you Julie to read, draw, do needlework... to paint... perhaps having a resident artist to do paintings of the gardens and for sale in your shop x and necklaces with that key would be lovely to buy❤
So very interesting. What I love beyond that beautiful estate is that you both are not afraid to do what it takes to manage, improve and discover your home and national treasure. I also love that Julie is a positive force and an American Gal we can be proud of. 😊
Marauder is an American word too, but kind of old fashioned. I have a feeling I learned it in the Nancy Drew books :) I am loving this content. If it is a rerun that's fine w me, as you can't have too much of a good thing, which is anything Mapperton. I adore Luke and Julie's banter, as it comes from a loving place.
I'm guessing you're American to assume that the word must be American? Per Google: The word marauder comes from the Middle French word maraud, which means "rascal". It entered the English language in the 17th century. The earliest known use of the noun marauder was in 1698 by Robert Ferguson, a pamphleteer and conspirator. The earliest known use of the noun maraud was in 1804 in the Sydney Gazette. The verb maraud was recorded as early as the late 1600s.
I had to laugh at Julie going through that bit of undergrowth on the way to the ancient fort. Like she was crossing the Darien Gap barefoot and blindfolded.
In the United States. Just found your channel and I am loving it! I live in South Carolina btw. I would love to see your home and stay in newly restored cottage. The views remind me of from where I grew up in South Central KY. Keep the episodes coming. Y'all are fantastic and entertaining!
Julie seems possessive of her vlog 😂 You should light those fireplaces when you have garden tours, that is such a neat feature. Especially if it is always chilly. Very cool feature. What was at the top.of the tower?! Restore that bath!... one day. 😂
As two warm bodies breathing hot air ascended the spiral stairs they prompted the air to rise quickly which caused the door to close at the bottom... sort of like priming the flue when starting a fireplace fire.
Viscount and Viscountess another fabulous episode of discovery, you two are so entertaining and make this Channel so great to watch and follow. Thank for the mystery tour around Mapperton Manor, until next week, be safe, take care and God Bless you both. PS - Nestor’s latest episode was great, he will need a decent Yacht to do the Volvo around the world event in 2025.
Enjoyed this beyond measure! All of these secret places are all so very special and brings even more uniquness to this lovely Estate. Look foreard to hopefully seeing a pt 2 and pt 3! You both are so sweet and together it is most humorous! Amazing all that "Ethel did" I had a greandmother called Ethel and ( well not the same one you are speaking of here LOL) But my mom was nicknamed that, but yet her real name was, Abbie. ) But you do not here the name Ethel , much anymore . Can just in my mind see thsi statley lady and all that she did and so artistic and interested in getting the best pictures she could, Loved going into the secret places . Was worried as you walked up turret and the photograoher was walking backwards yet and the steps were narrow. Then when Julie thought the door was locked and someone might have locked it, that was very scary ,as that is the last thing you want in a place like that. (seemed like horror picture then lol) Imagine reception is not so good ,and will never be able to let people know where you are. Maybe you would need to go out a window? (Luckily you would have all of us out here alerting help for you!!!lol) Thank you for this video and all of them! Thanks for sharing!
I am a British born Canadian now living in Mexico 😁. I absolutely love this channel. Takes me back to the rolling, green hills of my Yorkshire ❤️❤️. I must admit I do miss a good sweater and scarf as well. 🥰😍
Steven and Claire( who are long gone) !? ... Nestor as his very younger self !? .... Julie has already swam in this Elisabethan bath !? ... interesting. It's a 'do we have a theme within our old footage'... apperentaly they had. Nice though, going all over the place ... in space and time.
I loved the first 18 minutes of the video of Julie and Luke showing us the hidden places. I love Luke's sense of humor. The old electric box was so interesting, I have not seen one like that before. The Queen Elizabeth Bath was so interesting also. I loved the old fortress site on top of that big hill! So interesting and the views were so beautiful. I laughed out loud when Luke said the metal detector would go half a mile down. Julie nice to know you are vegetarian, I am vegan and also I LOVE YOGA! I was very impressed with Luke when they showed the clip of him in that hole fixing whatever that pipe was. It is so interesting to see all about Mapperton and the history. Thanks for the video.
City slicker Julie LOL 🤣. You'd think they were tromping through the Amazon Rainforest, constantly in danger of being eaten by all manner of beasties big and small.
The countryside is so beautiful. Reminds me of my native Virginia. I could live there. I visited The House of the Seven Gables and saw the secret passageway. Way cool. Not as cool as Mapperton. 😊
Loved the to see Nestor and his grandma together. What an amazing building. Julie I love your little caps where do you get them from? Greetings from Miami ❤
Fascinating! Does all your water flow in underground tunnels and into storage tanks? Who puts the water in the underground tunnels? Local government? From a lake? Do you have water wells which pump water out of the ground? Also, this is just a suggestion but I would like to see a segment on Mapperton doors. I bet you have some beautiful hand carved doors. What does the doors of the main entrance look like? How about the chapel? Do you have ancient medieval latches? Fancy Victorian door knobs? You could do up a video segment like the open credits to the movie, The Nineth Gate, except not so sinister. Perhaps you could sell posters called Doors of Mapperton - a gridwork pattern of interesting doors? Not sure there would be much of a market for it but you could put wreaths on the doors, for posters, then sell them for Christmas?
I love this tour so much please refurbish Queen Elizabeth’s bath! How great would that be as a heated pool or hot tub. The grottos are gorgeous I’d sit there and read all day
While in Ireland I climbed the stairs at Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney stone, the stairs were VERY narrow as we got closer and closer to the top. I too though the men must have been very short with small feet. I love that little studio size hideaway room Julie. Hope you spruce it up and utilize it. Just use spider spray and clean it up. Purging is so therapeutic and you get to see and know where things are for the future. This has been an interesting tour of your property. Loved it.
Boiler rooms are fascinating, especially those that transition old systems to new ones. Ethel's paintings must be somewhere, right? You two are so cute together. Nestor and Lady Sandwich in the dovecote...wow! Never seen the inside of one but have read about them. The ancient hillfort is very cool; learned a lot about laws of detecting and digging in the UK from watching The Detectorists and then taking a deep dive on the subject. Thank you, Martin, Suzi, Amy, Raymond, Beryl, and all Mapperton staff! Julie and Luke, thanks for the secret places tour. What a fascinating virtual vacation I just had. 🥰
Sadly, here in the U.S. we have the same Ash Tree die off from the Emerald Ash Borer. Also, chickens love a good dust bath and the trick is to use human grade diatomaceous earth, soil, and wood ash for them to roll around in. It will keep the lice away without toxins.
The stairs in the tower were made that way as a defense mechanism in other medieval towers, as a way to prevent the bad guys from running up the stairs after them, to throw off their step and hopefully cause them to fall
I really loved watching how you spend your day and all the projects going on. I'd like to see if the mansion has secret doorways and rooms too. There is so much to do! I'm wondering if you have a wine cellar too?
I am related to the Compton family. My mom did a family history and we come from the Compton family and Ashby Castle and Compton Wynyates. You mentioned a Reverend Compton so this brought my history to mind
Nestor with his grandmother is too sweet. And I never knew a dovecote was actually for doves. I thought it was just an architectural term. Thanks for saving me the research Mapperton! 😉
I loved all the the secret spaces, I could work on my cross stitch samplers instead of painting.
Seeing Nestor and his Grandmother was so special. Loved it!
I dont mind the lovely banter. I know those who have shown their disappointment and lectured Julie to treat her husband more kindly could and should just scroll past. One isnt required to watch OR even comment. I thoroughly enjoyed this segment and loved the hidden areas. 😊

You two are ADORABLE. I love your repartée. Thanks again for another gem.
I can not imagine living in a home so big, that even after 20 years I do not know every square inch.
Let alone running out of work to do.
I love your banter! You both are so cute and fun, and make the history easy and enjoyable to watch

Hello from the DMV in the USA. I agree wholeheartedly.
You get to live here! How amazing! Thank you for sharing all of it!

Living in a place that has secret nooks and crannies is like playing a mystery game in real life 😂❤
I’d never get one lick of work done. There’s enough to play with, look at and explore.

So glad!

Make the Summer House like a studio apartment/staycation room for 1…..❤
Usual bants 😂. Nestor and his grandmother are far better behaved 😂. Loved the video throughout as per usual. ♥️
What a fun, funny and touching show. Is that William with his Grandmother? Love it 😍
Nestor, the youngest. Very sweet young man.
I am so in love with the rolling downs around Mapperton absolutely exquisite ❤❤❤❤
Please do more! REALLY loved this. Even as a child I adored secret places :)
Great job steven! Thanks for risking the tower backwards!!
Julie is so funny. Shes cracking me up in that forest
Yes please. A part 2 and part 3 would be great 👍
Luke I am so impressed that you know the internal workings of your house. Bravo!!🙌🏼
Loved this one! I would love to see more of the beautiful and massive glasshouse besides the kitchen garden.
In the United States. Just found your channel and I am loving it! I live in South Carolina btw.
I would love to see your home and stay in newly restored cottage. The views remind me of from where I grew up in South Central KY. Keep the episodes coming. Y'all are fantastic and entertaining!

Every episode that you share, is more entertaining than the last one. Julie, you and Luke really are wonderful. 😊
Wow, thank you!

Ah, but they've had centuries to propagate and mutate 😁.
Love the grottos
Very good video. Great idea, perhaps this could be a series. Some of the other house you have visited, you could re-visit and do a hidden places.

❤️this! I enjoy seeing all the secret places!!
Miss Stephen and Claire.
At 15:00, It looks like she must've hung a curtain over the door to keep the heat in & the cold out. 😊
I noticed that too. And it was for one hecka heavy curtain
😂😂😂😂😂😂This family is so cool!!!❤❤❤
Loved this. More please👍
Fabulous episode. Love the secret places. The hill fort could take a whole episode if you have more history of there to tell?
You are both so funny! My husband and I have much the same relationship. We’re always teasing one another.

That is so interesting. How did you lean that?
They sell pavement attachments for power washers. Saves a lot of time and effort.
I love Time Teem! Was so happy to see it on UA-cam.
I really loved watching how you spend your day and all the projects going on. I'd like to see if the mansion has secret doorways and rooms too. There is so much to do! I'm wondering if you have a wine cellar too?

Thank you so much!!
I am related to the Compton family. My mom did a family history and we come from the Compton family and Ashby Castle and Compton Wynyates. You mentioned a Reverend Compton so this brought my history to mind
Julie- have we done a risk assessment???
Luke- bouncing on the bridge, “let’s go down together!” 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m with Luke!!
love you guys
Love the behind the scenes episode ❤🐢💚💜💙♥️🐢
I would love to see more videos of the kitchen garden!!
marauder is also an Australian word & means a person or persons unknown who are invading your land...
Adorable Raymond! Tricky Repairs Angel in the flesh...
