I know this will become my go to UA-cam channel. You are both great presenters and I'm glad you are keeping it real and showing the challenges involved in running this stunning home. Thank you!
Thanks guys I really enjoyed the video. Who does all the hoovering and dusting. Do you just do one room everyday and when you get to the last one you have a day off and then start again 😅
@@stevenmanns248 you need to comment under the video - you have responded under my comment so they will never see this comment which is a very good observation 🙂
I shot a scene for a student WWII short film here around 2 years ago called The Coward. Beautiful location and oh my what a building! Caroline was wonderful and super helpful allowing us to use multiple locations around the house (including oak room - my fav too!) just to support young filmmakers. I was shocked and thrilled to see it star in new series Rivals too! I'm in Malmesbury - would love to come back and have another look around at some point and very excited for this series [wish I was working on it]!
Love your channel, I watched the Poldark series and wondered what this manor looked like in real time. Imagine my surprise when your U-Tube channel popped up, I honestly couldn’t be more excited to subscribe, like & comment. I’m joining in for this castle rehabilitation, best of luck in your endeavors.👍🏻👍🏻
If anyone finds a floorplan, I would be very grateful! I'm working on a spooky tale set at Chavenage based on the well-known ghost story about the spectral headless carriage driver
I would love if you did a tour of the Art and Artists in the Manor. You could probably get several episodes on that alone. And then a few on the Antiques. This channel checks so many boxes including History. I thought I was clicking on a renovation project and am so pleased I was wrong ❤.
How interesting, so sorry for the loss of your grand father. I’m sure he will be very proud of you carrying on the family heritage. Good luck with everything ❤
So excited to come along on your journey. Please keep the avocado sink. So classic and vintage. The “playroom ” would be a great living room/media room with the wood paneling restored. Kind of a “playroom” for grown ups.
Oh my word, I've watched GCN for a few years now and loved watching James or should I say Hanks advetures on the show, Such a privilege to inherit and take over and care for his families historic home. Absolutely looking forward to watching James and Emma's adventures at the manor progress. Wishing you both all the best with this amazing project.
I really enjoyed this video. I would love to see a video of the staff quarters. The people who worked in the house are an important part of the history, and I'd love to see that side of the property. Also, any staff passageways, hidden pass-throughs, stories about staff members would be fun.
I like this couple! Will definitely return. Very down to earth and you just know they'll be realistic about the challenges ahead, therefore allowing us to invest. If I may say so you are lucky in one way, amid the challenges, you're located in the Cotswolds. But I have a feeling you will absolutely make the most of it and be knowingly grateful. Good luck to both of you :)
You are such a charming couple, it will be enjoyable watching your story unfold. I am so glad those beautiful estates are being revived and shared with the world! Bravo!
Loving your videos. Super entertaining - and no small part because you are both so adorable and witty. Can hardly wait to see future stuff. The old playroom could easily be a "family room/great room." What else would be cool is a contest to visit once the place is completely done. The poster that mentioned the floor plan is spot on. If you want room suggestions, having a floor plan to see where everything is would be brilliant. "This hall leads to that hall" doesn't do it justice. Love from Portland, Oregon.
Re your fly issue, there is a way to control them. They lay tay there eggs in the gaps, where the window frames open. In winter what you need to do it open the windows and clear our any debris, in the frames, then pipe down the frames with white vinegar. Obviously you have a lot of windows, so would suggest doing the worst window/s 1st, then slowly working your way around the building. Unfortunately though it will be like painting the 4th Railway Bridge, once you've gone around once, you'll have to start again. That large room make a brilliant Cinema Room. 👍
Imagine having some interior decor that you'd had to take down temporarily because Oliver Cromwell was coming round. Loving this walkaround although also totally confused on layout!
Love your videos growing up at Chavenage with mum (Della) and dad I have been in all the rooms you showcase. Mum would have looked after George, Caroline and Joanna in the nursery. Fondest memories of Chavenage, look forward to the next one.

Your manor House reminds me of my old school back in Worcestershire it was such a beautiful house you had to investigate it we had tours in school where we went to all the rooms the house was built in 1820 and became a special school back in 1958 what's a beautiful memory to have when I look at your manor House how I wish I could go back and spend my childhood there again
Renovating a 6 bed farmhouse from the 18th century took us 14 years and a great deal of money so I can only imagine the journey you are embarking upon. All the best, I’ll watch with interest.
It will be very beautiful when you restore the rest of the rooms . It's awesome ❤😊 the"Poldark" house was my favorite in movies and shows . That large room that was your grandmother's bedroom would make a great living room . Especially when you bring back the gorgeous wood paneling and cozy fireplace. 👍

What an absolutely magnificent piece of English history. This only furthers my resolve to move back to the U.K. after over 30 years working and living abroad. The Cotswolds is high on my list. I certainly look forward to more episodes.
A lot of history! Most of it unpleasant- for the serfs & servants. Too much emphasis on wealth of older generations. Made on the backs of undereducated, over-worked lower income class peoples. 🤢🤮
Thanks for letting us into the family home as well as the bit the public see. So much space and potential. The old nursery would make a superb upstairs living room
What a beautiful historic building. I am so envious she is absolutely stunning. This is my first time watching and I'm hooked, I have subscribed and can't wait for a full in depth tour of your fantastic home. Lots of love. Jill Birmingham, West Midlands, England. XXXXXXXX

Brilliant series of videos so far, i really wish more stately homes opened there doors and documented these masterpieces on video for the world to appreciate. I love English history and am fascinated by the shear effort to keep these places going, keep up the good work....
This is so cool!! I’m always fascinated by family history. My family moved to the US so we have no memorabilia from the past and I have no children but watching these videos really makes me wish I had a huge family that stayed in one spot for centuries
That finale room really would be a beautiful drawing room with a projector screen coming down from from the ceiling! Even the green fire place would bring in so much character

I CAN’T EVENNN this house is so perfect! 😍 with the snow it’s such a dream. The warthog needs some love get some embalming creams/oils, my grandfather was an avid hunter and his house was full of taxidermy. We had a leopard complete crumble because we didn’t know how to properly maintain it. Keep the sink, it could be designer stuff. The big room should be a gorgeous study or a drawing room. THAT tapestry is spectacular !
So wonderful to see such special heritage being passed on to a lovely couple. I liked how you went on deeper through the rooms and doors it seemed magical... Drawing room makes sense for the big one. I kind of really liked some bits of the 90s or 20th century memorabilia as much, it beholds a kind of Diana Spencer vibes to me. 👌
❤Good afternoon I have come across your lovely Manor home videos, I was a Poldark fan and truly enjoyed seeing it and now will keep up on the latest developments as you continue to film, have a wonderful day.
Oh my goodness! The tapestry in the Cromwell room is fabulous! I like your humor and banter, and look forward to seeing what you do with your private spaces. That playroom could definitely work as a home theater, with the columns and arched sections of the ceiling. Your little dogs are so cute.
Super excited to have discovered your channel at it's early development ! Looking forward to the historical aspects and intrigue unfolding. Cannot wait to see the playroom stripped back to the fabulous paneling- would make for a delightful family lounge room. With both your personalities I know this will be an awesome ride ❤

I have lived in houses dating back to the 13th century and I love learning about the history and how one deals with the challenges involved. The stories these houses tell are endlessly interesting. I subscribed watching my first view of the channel and can't wait to see more,
Thank you so much! being fairly new to the estate I have been learning so much and I agree, the house tell endless stories and have so much character xx
Amazing history! Can't wait to see the wood panelling in the "play room." Just needs to be well lit with soft light, and then it will seem warm and cozy. 😃
I love the great room that’s going to be part of your house . That beautiful , wonderful room cries out for a drawing or living room . Somewhere you and family can go and relax . What ever you decide I am sure it will be lovely. Make it your own contribution to the manor . 👍😊
Hi Janice, thank you so much! We think a drawing room would be lovely, somewhere we can relax in is perfect as life can be really hectic! We will keep everyone updated with what we decide to do xx
Key aspects to fix in a home like this :- Damp - rising (water table/foundations), ingress (roof, windows, walls, gutters) and condensation - leading to ventilation and heating (dry as in fireplaces and fuel types and wet as in central(ish) heating). Next, plumbing and electrical. Once these are resolved, life can continue. The issue is trying to fit modern appliances and lifestyle into a builidng that wasn't constructed to accommodate them. Sometimes using what is already there is better than trying to upgrade it. Having lived in a building that was initially constructed in the 14th/15th Century I learned a little, although my parents somewhat more!
Lovely to see the house is in good hands. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding reception at Chavenage almost 34 years ago, this has brought back some wonderful memories. I wish you well with your plans, it is a huge undertaking.
I have always been fascinated with English history as well as castles and old beautiful homes. I would love to hear more about the lives of people that lived here. I subscribed right away and I am looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful home. You two seem like a lovely couple ! 😊 -Holly from Wisconsin, USA
Im so excited for what is to come! You guys have a wonderful down to earth feel in your approach to something quite extraordinary. So so entertaining! Thank you for sharing ❤
As an Aussie I can only dream about living in a home like yours. Let alone one that Aiden Turner has walked around ❤ so glad you Brit’s are finding ways to keep your family homes for the future. I’d love to live with a ghost 😊
That is absolutely fantastic! The history, house, you both - all that comes together so well. Not to mention the quality of filming and beautiful artistic shots. Looking forward to the next episodes and keeping my fingers crossed for the success of your „little” challenge!
Enjoyed watching this and look forward to loads more in the future. Second the idea of the floorplan, would be great to keep track of all the rooms. Funny you should mention Dennis Taylor, saw him in a restaurant a couple of weeks back in Wrexham.
21.50 Jan. 3rd Just found your Channel about half an hour ago. Lovely Couple, stunning home. I would love a chapter on your Church? Chapel? Thank you. Every future happiness and success. Best wishes. Tony. Co. Louth. Ireland.
I love how you’re both still exploring places in the house, you seem genuinely amazed to see some stuff (like using the massive shutters in the billiard room!) even though it’s your beautiful home now I imagine that the responsibility of such a massive space is quite something! The wee historical snippets are so interesting. I wish you could do a portrait in Lycra, I mean, that’s a big part of your life and it’s also how many UA-cam viewers will know you 😊 is it not the same as someone being depicted with their gundogs or something?!? I love the way you both interact and present, so lovely 🥰 🥰 Thanks for sharing these wee glimpses into Manor life.. it’s so cool to see how you’ll develop it and make it yours, and wow, imagine being part of all that history and having grown up visiting it, now properly living in it 😊oooh.. Secret panelling!! 23:43 A silly thing- Can we get a dogs eye view of life in the estate?!?
Loved the tour, thank you for the video. It is a lot of work and fun to keep the mansion up and running, kudos to you both for sharing a glimpse into the mansion. 🙌🏾👍🏾

Ok watching from East Tennessee USA ... excited to watch this channel as you go along doing all the renovations!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Happy for you guys! Thanks for sharing. Interesting for an American like me to hear about such a long history in your home.
Thanks so much Jeff, lots more to come xx
Yes! Brilliant video presenters and fascinating history!
Glad you enjoyed it
Lovely to see the house is in good hands. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding reception at Chavenage almost 34 years ago, this has brought back some wonderful memories. I wish you well with your plans, it is a huge undertaking.
Thanks for sharing!
I have always been fascinated with English history as well as castles and old beautiful homes. I would love to hear more about the lives of people that lived here. I subscribed right away and I am looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful home. You two seem like a lovely couple ! 😊

Great tour of a very grand manor.
What a cool development, love the channel, I can’t even imagine being born into something like that, lots of obligations but so cool..
I love these episodes ,this is going to become one of my favourite UA-cam channels, Hank don't put on to much weight now ❤
As an Aussie I can only dream about living in a home like yours. Let alone one that Aiden Turner has walked around ❤ so glad you Brit’s are finding ways to keep your family homes for the future.
I’d love to live with a ghost 😊
Great fun watching you both. Exciting!!
Thanks so much!
Those bedrooms are absolutely spectacular! The tapestries are mind bogglingly beautiful.
This is so splendid 😊
Glad you think so!
That is absolutely fantastic! The history, house, you both - all that comes together so well. Not to mention the quality of filming and beautiful artistic shots. Looking forward to the next episodes and keeping my fingers crossed for the success of your „little” challenge!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed watching this and look forward to loads more in the future. Second the idea of the floorplan, would be great to keep track of all the rooms. Funny you should mention Dennis Taylor, saw him in a restaurant a couple of weeks back in Wrexham.
love the house and you guys! so excited for more, especially history and ghost stories
Cannot wait to see more. A joy to watch. Thank you.
Thank you so much : )
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful Home and I must say quite well kept. Your Grand Father must be so happy. Definitely worth every work and penny to be spent.
It really is!
The scale of this undertaking is daunting. Thank you for being willing to preserve it for the next generations!
Our pleasure!
21.50 Jan. 3rd Just found your Channel about half an hour ago. Lovely Couple, stunning home. I would love a chapter on your Church? Chapel? Thank you. Every future happiness and success. Best wishes. Tony. Co. Louth. Ireland.
The first one! Cool beans! Howdy!❤😊❤
So interesting to see all of the unique rooms in the house! What an amazing home, and packed so full of history!
I’m so excited for this channel’s potential 🔥
Love your home. It’s very warm and welcoming. Beautiful rooms!
I love the way you both interact and present, so lovely 🥰 🥰
Thanks for sharing these wee glimpses into Manor life.. it’s so cool to see how you’ll develop it and make it yours, and wow, imagine being part of all that history and having grown up visiting it, now properly living in it 😊oooh.. Secret panelling!! 23:43
A silly thing- Can we get a dogs eye view of life in the estate?!?
Thanks so much for the lovely message
This is an exciting series. 🎉 love old houses.
Happy to have you along!!!
Loved the tour, thank you for the video. It is a lot of work and fun to keep the mansion up and running, kudos to you both for sharing a glimpse into the mansion. 🙌🏾👍🏾
