Randy Pobst was invited to test the "Holy Trinity of Hypercars" - the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, and the McLaren P1 against the Pagani Huayra BC. Which car do you think comes out on top? The test was facilitated by Merit Partners (meritpartners.com) and the Driving Club at Road Atlanta.

One of the things I miss most about Motor Trend being free on youtube was Randy Pobst's explanations of cars just like this.
Exactly. He's one of the few "journalists" that I trust driving reviews from.
ME TOO. Best Driver's Car still coming, and I think MT throws it out on YT later. (I really should know this)
@@randypobstofficial we'll get you in some more supercars real soon for your channel!😎
@@randypobstofficial Oh look! It's "a personal friend of mine".
I miss it on you tube to but atleast they made it motortrend cheap u can get it for 1$ or 2$ a month
Glad to have Randy back in the interview chair. I have loved his contributions to our "What would you buy?" series but he is a phenomenal storyteller.
Hey Ed...i am a big fan of Randy! Road Atlanta used to host the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs...which was the biggest race of the year for sports car racing. 24 different classes (everything from showroom stock to open wheel formula cars) would compete in a 18 lap sprint race. Thats where i saw Randy run...and i remember him because he was that good. Followed him through the ranks as he raced in IMSA as well. Phenomenal driver! Thanks for getting him on the channel!
Of course you in my opinion the best story telling would say Randy is the best it's a lifestyle some will only dream of and you live it with our heroes.... thanks ED
Known Randy for many years. Great guy and probably the most humble true driver ive ever known!
he's as real as it gets cos he aint tryin to sell me some snake-oil
Ed, I love to visit and share with you and your followers. What a cool channel. Sorry about the food poisoning that one time, urgh. I dig the outrageous and entertaining Car Stories, too. Creating some for my new little YT thingy, too.
Hate to say this Ed, but this is the 1st time in like four months where I actually just sat down and watched a full episode of VinWiki.
So true
same
I love watching vinwiki videos I like to watch episodes when I play car mechanic simulator
Me too.
What was everybody's advertisement total? I got 951.
I love Randy because he is the Clark Kent of racing drivers. He has the appearance of a Certified Public Accountant but drives like the Devil was chasing him. ;-)
You sure he didn't just outbrake the Devil, walk away from Satan at the next turn and then offer ole Lucy some driving tips for his soul in the pits afterward?
but if you ask hims which are faster... he won't be able... but if you ask which had higher chance to be faster... he alway going for 4wd system since rear wheel are hard to be fast all the time...
It’s the other way around; Randy is chasing the Devil. 😉
He's also one of the nicest damn people you could ever meet
Here, sir, is your W...
Randy did more to sell Pagani's than I've ever seen anyone else do. The way he described how it felt and how impressed he became the more he drove it was great!
Unfortunately you can't be right.. As your comment is only a month old.
Well, it had to fight the whole fooking trinity in a racetrack and emerged victorious. You don't get more serious than that.
I always love listening to Randy. This is a real driver with the sense and tingle to describe the experience that make you feel like you’re driving.
He brakes way later then everyone else he just put brakes them
Randy is such a good storyteller. He is so good with his review even when he is currently not sitting in the car
Yeah I love hearing him too.
The way he's describing the track and vehicle dynamics is just beautiful
This guy seems like he knows what he's doing. He should try racing professionally
🤔
Yes but no one would take him seriosly
Ok
But he is a pro driver...
@@thatloudCG5 nO WaY!!!??? Really???!!!
Randy and tiff needel need a show together! Best drivers with personalitys out there!
I whole heartedly agree!!! That would be greatest car show ever !!!
Absolutely. They both are really good at understanding the personalities of various cars with the primary focus being on the handling and performance.
That should be really quite something! I wonder if Drivetribe could set something up? The world needs the seasoned gentlemen of racing to set the future hopes a proper example!
I never expected so much love on this comment! Seriously! Somebody make this happen!
They have a childlike enthusiasm.
Horacio Pagani is the Italian/Argentine Chirstian von Koenigsegg....incredible how they've both changed the hypercar game
A little more arty than engineering though
Apparently not.
Marius Ipad but he is though, was born in Argentina and his parents are Italian so that makes him Italian
Marius Ipad he has Italian citizenship and both of his parents are Italian
Pagani changed the style game I guess? Christian had done more imo
The Pagani Huayra has both a Master's degree in Art & Design AND Mechanical Engineering. She's smart and good looking. Rare find.
JUST how I like em... 😈
And apparently she knows how to dance!
It was great to have Randy out on track with us driving the hypercars and the Carrera GT, he was fantastic for the job and to interview.
Thank you guys for doing this. Next time I come back down to Atlanta I would love to stop by and see the collection!
Huge THANKS to Merit Partners Atlanta Burt and Jonathan for making this day possible! And for letting me drive your Carrera GT in anger at Rd Atlanta, too, Jonathan.

Thanks for the video Randy.
Are we gonna get any comments, and/or video on the Carrera?
If not: What would you say? Is it, still a super exciting screamer vs the other cars!?
@@Vampirebear13 The World can really suck, why make it worse?
"It's 3 million dollars, I DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT THE WALLS" hahaha, love it.
I was super engaged for this whole video, Randy is quite the storyteller and his experience really shines through in concrete ways. Great video!! Surprised to learn his current daily driver is the 4cyl camaro!
Thx a mill. Yep, don't forget 1LE on that Camaro. Light (for a Camaro) and so balanced, and quick without jail-time power. Sometimes I lack restraint...
I kept reading it as 'enraged' and didn't get why you were so positive :D Finally read it properly, the mind is weird sometimes.
@@Jeghedderikkejulian Good to hear - engagement is much better than enragement, at least in 90% of scenarios
Randy Pobst agreed!!! I have the SS 1LE and it is amazing!!! I added the ZL1 1LE solid rear cradle bushings to it , as I felt that was its only weak point.
Coming from a 16’ M3, the Alpha chassis in the 1LE form just crushes it.
Randy is the best. You must have him on here more often. I was so giddy when he was describing the Pagani. Unique driver, and unique story teller!
“And harder, and harder, and faster, and faster” 0_0 *me looking around at people swearing this is a safe for work video*

I'm so glad Randy started a UA-cam channel. Randy's the same in person, as he is on TV. He loves his job( only a crazy person wouldn't😅) and it shows. Always such a great storyteller👏 Excellent video Ed! Glad you made a UA-cam channel as well 😁🤙

Randy Pobst is that one old guy you see at the cafe and think “boomer”. When all of a sudden he hops into an M3 and starts swinging it at an intersection before drifting off into the night. Leaving you and your Civic Type R in bewilderment.
lmao you must not know much about randy... he would be getting into a Volvo wagon doing the burnout.

With you 100%. Would like to see Randy in a Koenigsegg
I'd imagine it's because there are less owners of those cars who would actually put them in a serious track situation, driven by a driver who will push the car. Obviously some do as we see here, but not as many as owners of the bigger brands.
Randy has to be one of the most genuine people in the whole car/racing scene
He just gets so genuinely excited...I love it.
Agreed. Randy just comes across as such an all around solid guy.
His passion and enthusiasm got me all damn excited lol like a child, love it
Randy is the car whisperer. He certainly knows how to illustrate what it's like to experience certain cars.
Randy has such an amazing automotive driving history and an incredible wealth of driving knowledge and skill
I would love for Randy to drive a Koenigsegg and talk about his experience.
It’s very interesting to hear from the perspective of a man with a wealth of experience and knowledge of car dynamics
You got Randy Pobst!!!!! Holy Crap this one deserves to be watched all the way through and on the 65" I feel honored watching this.
It's so validating to have Randy's perspective on the Pagani Huayra. It's the only hyper car I'd ever dream of purchasing and you really want to know that the thing you dream about is what it's cracked up to be.
Best break down of the hyper cars ever. Thank you Randy. That video can be the end of that whole discussion. You summed each up perfectly and as expected. 👍
I love when Randy tells a story, you can see him emotionally reliving the experience as he tells the tale. Thank you for another great episode!
Randy's use of vivid imagery, especially abt the Pagani!
Randy is the people’s racing driver
Correct 😎
Thanks VINwiki for all the posts during this time. I think I am speaking for most of us when I say it gives us something positive to look forward to in such a negative time.. thanks again
Well said. Thanks VinWiki
Yeah, I'm with you, Kevin and Mike, can't wait 'til it's died down and we can go get crazy again
Want Randy Pobst talking 24/7 and I'd enjoy every second listening to his stories and all his experiences. What a wonderful man!
The GOAT is back. Love Randy.
I love how Randy Pobst explains driving racetracks, it makes me feel like I’m in there with him🏁
I have watched and read so much about these cars.....but I have NEVER learned more about the real differences until this video. Thanks Randy
That Huayra's active aero (and asymetrically is even more beautiful) going up and down is like a symphony of perfection putting on a show while you drive. Absolute beauty.
You can hear the excitement in his voice remembering that day
It was an incredible day
I'm curious to hear what Randy's take on how a Koenigsegg's drive... Respect to Pagani for their performance and handling.
That's exactly what I want to hear too. I need to know whether Christian is legit
We would eagerly tune in to watch Randy Pobst's review of a grocery store shopping cart. Godspeed, Randy!
I met Randy briefly at a special Glacier Lakes Quattro Club track weekend in 2004. He is so enthusiastic and welcoming to motorsports fans. It's thrilling to see him continue killing it. I didn't sign up fast enough for a passenger hot lap with him, but I did get to see him drift my close friend's father around in his GT3. I'll never forget the ecstatic grins through those windows.
I remember that generous fellow with the GT3! He said go for it, because I asked permission first, out of respect for his tires. Slideways onto the front straight at Brainerd.
You can tell Randy really likes the Pagani cause he is really aggressive when he talks about it
He’s gotta be my favorite professional driver, he’s so eager for things to be fast and has driven and likes just about every type of car
Love hearing that Pagani nailed it, they have so much passion in their work. Randy gave awesome insight. I wonder, has he shared anything like that with the Senna and how it slots in with the P1 and 918?
love the in depth feedback of the car's handling. no journalist gives this sort of description or feedback in so much detail. love it.
Loved this video. As I watched, I was so badly hoping he would like the Huayra. I've always loved the design but worried it would be a trashcan to drive on a track. Now that it has Pobst's approval, I can freely continue to want one... while never being able to actually afford one.
Ditto!
I had high expectations of the Huayra after seeing it on Top Gear, and seeing it easily set the fastest lap time on the course at the time.
Randy is definitely the American Tiff Needell. Both the most down to earth, interesting racing legends that will ever be! Now we just need Needell in the vinwiki chair!
I love when Randy's here. Arguably one of the greatest race car drivers of our time yet he seems so down to earth and humble towards the craft of driving. You can see on the Motortrend shows that he truly appreciates and understands what the car is doing down to a science. Motortrend is lucky to have him as a driver
I love Randy. He is the guy you want to be your friend who understands and loves driving (and isn't so hung up on the car).
Can someone put Randy in a Zonda R?!👀
I'd love to see Randy drive the Huayra and a Koenigsegg back to back. CvK is great and all, but Horatio is a genius!
Randy Pobst is by far my favorite VINWiki guy.
so good, so interesting, so passionate and so knowledgeable.
He's just a pleasure to listen to.
Mr. Pobst has a way of speaking that transports the listener into the car with him. Awesome commentary.
C7 brakes might be their most impressive feature. Insane stopping power and feel.
Randy is so enthusiastic and it makes his story telling so enjoyable
Great storytelling about the road testing work!! I had never heard of Pagoni before but sounds like a fantastic car!! Randy Pobst is just an outstanding driver from everything I've ever heard - keep up the great work!!
Woah never new Randy Pobst lived in GA. My buddy actually saw that guy's LaFerrari in Sandy Springs not too long ago. Cool to know he has the whole collection 😯
This is absolutely amazing. Paganis are my favorite cars. Would have never thought it could hang with the holy trinity on track.
This was great. Would love to hear more from Mr. Pobst! Also a bit jealous-would love to feel that Pagani for myself!
Randy is a real joy to listen to! An experienced racer that talks and still get’s excited like a teenager when driving something new. Wonderful!
Last year Mr. Pobst was invited to come out west and hang with amateur racers at the Lucky Dog Racing event at The Ridge (Shelton Washington). Lucky Dog is a west-coast series that spun off Chump Car which, in turn, evolved from 24 Hours of Lemons. It is more serious racing and less goofing around than Lemons. Low and behold he showed up for some seat time. I thought it quite cool that a professional racer with celebrity status would spend his weekend with amateur enthusiasts driving their Craigslist-sourced cars. Hope you enjoyed it, Randy. It was good to see you there.
Hi, Michael, I love this stuff. And that kid in the Fiero beat me! Fieroline. He was so good into the chicane, did a sweet job of driving. And they even made me a team shirt. 👍
Wow I’ve actually always wondered this also about pagani compared to the others 😃 I guess now we know it’s more than rolling art! Thanks Randy 🤪
I would listen to this man talk for a 1 whole day!

The only reason I'd stop listening to his stories is to use the restroom and of course sleep... I mean, hes masterful in the way he words his stories, kinda wish he'd write a book...
hell yeah #diabolical
As a lot of people have mentioned Randy is one of the coolest cats on the block. Amazing talent and really seems down to earth, not to mention his love of bikes. No matter what channel or where I see him I always know its gonna be good, the excitement he has while telling these stories is intoxicating.
Randy on vinwiki is absolutely gold! I could listen to him talk about cars all day every day. It was very interesting to get to hear someone as knowledgeable as he, talk about pagani like that. I always wondered how they really were. Not just some idiot talking about aero grip while going 62 mph obviously not even getting remotely close to speeds that would have aero play a part in handling. Great video.

Randy in any video is an instant watch for me. I wanted to hear his thoughts on the "wild" CGT
Yeah, I think I ran out of time, was talking so long. Ed's edit is terrific. I drove the C/GT about 87%. It's tricky at the limit. So, respect, for owner Jonathan at Merit Partners.
@@randypobstofficial oh, and Jason recently did a video about CGT on ISSIMI. Did he actually ask you about your opinion about it?
I think part of what made Randy love the Pagani so much is he experienced what I call a "moment of wonderment" comprised of these emotions- surprise, delight, and joy.
It's great to finally see Randy back on the channel! He has such a great energy about him and it's infectious; at least to me. It's like every time he talks about cars or racing I'm 5 years old on Christmas morning again and going "vroom! vroom!" in my head the entire time!
I hope you can get him worked back into the rotation in a regular way!
Love Porsche's approach to this whole thing. PR is an important part of doing business, but at the end of the day the product's performance has to speak for itself.
I remember another comparison test article where they said something along the lines of "Ferrari brought multiple cars and engineers who pored over the car between every session - Porsche just dropped off the car and left"
Fair to say Porsche is the company who makes a car you can drive hard over and over and only change fluids, pads and tires for years.
Someone please put Randy in Pagani Zonda R; that is one hot lap that I need to see
