*Randy* :
*"When the car is flying in the air..... stability control can;t help much"*
*well.... you would know*
ouch!!
That's strange. I assumed from sims like CSR, you could control a flying car and things like backflips for extra swag points. /s
I thought you just hit the gas the raise the nose
brilliant observation. Had me in fits.
Randy is hands down a bad race car driver....he crashes every car. Did the same with the GT-R.
We're slowly learning that Randy is a part-time pilot in motorsports!
"I've been to pikes peak 6 times"
And get wrecked at a 33 percent rate... randy, you can do better
Hell yes
Yeah an Air Cadet.
If you drive fast on rough roads enough, chances are you'll fly a car too.
@@spacecadet0 I've been in a couple of situations like that, it's a *unique* experiences, to say the least.
Although I've also "Flown" a 4WD, *unintentionally*, at a low speed! I hadn't slowed down enough for a small flood-way. The exit side of said flood-way is steep and with around 45km/h of speed (50km/h max speed zone) my old Datsun 720 4X4 cleared all four wheels from the ground. I didn't realise it was airborne until I felt the thing "touch down" and compress the suspension all the way to the bump-stops.
I'm just thankful I didn't turn the steering wheel at that moment, I hate to think about what could've happened if I had.
Still, I had to check my pants afterwards because I wasn't sure.
Randy has the best stories. He’s like that cool uncle who’s got plenty of good stories to tell in the garage while workin on cars
Absolute Legend
Who keeps giving this man cars? He has a high crash rate lol
@@411Adidas well, depending on how much he races, I'm willing to think he has a low crash rate. He just has a lot of crash stories. 😃 When you're on the precipice of the edge of control - arguably you're the fastest. It's just there's a lot to go wrong and it goes wrong fast, faster than folks can react. Sometimes you can save it, but others, it's just best to hold on. You can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs. And you won't get better without pushing yourself to be better. With that push, you're liable to make mistakes and that's just racing. Learning from it, and owning it, is how you get better.
Wish i had an uncle like him
Randy is the best part of this channel!
"I don't get scared in crashes, i get depressed" this guy has awesome quotes lmao
That's very true
I get angry. Car repair is expensive.
Lol
@@afroman5531 It's been true in my experience as well. I've never felt scared while flying off track necessarily (happens too quickly), but I have felt sad and embarrassed. I once got knocked into another car (I was hit by another driver), and I felt terrible about the car I hit (even though it wasn't my fault per se). I totally expected the other driver to be pissed at me and at the situation, but he was very calm about it. Even though he said that he couldn't really afford his repairs at that time, he was very gracious and understanding. That's one of the things I love about the auto racing community: everyone I've dealt with has been super nice and humble.
I felt that quote deep. I flipped my car once at highway speeds and I was instantly depressed the moment I felt the car flying. Lasted for months after..
Elon after seeing this: We need more stability while in the air!
🤣
He is already on it
ua-cam.com/video/reMTcjw_Tcw/v-deo.html
Yeah, just pop some of those grid fins from the Falcon 9 on there. Let the computer handle it. :P
The plan is for cold gas thrusters for the roadster
Don't give him more ideas dude
"Sounds like a hail storm in a tin shed"
😂🤣
That's so savage: mentioning that he beat the lap record at Laguna seca during testing just as a side note 😆
Randy is the opposite of James may, because if James is captain slow, then randy must be Sargent speed!
@@AibohphobiAband you mean Randy is “major quick”
He Said about the Record because he broke the Record at Laguna Seca so many times in MotorTrend that probably he dont care anymore 😂
yeah the record for an EV....
@@carholic-sz3qv That's still a significant record nonetheless
Rich Rebuilds when he hears the original car is still somewhere out there:
*is for me?*
Be pretty funny if he did, and put a E1 setup in it.
😂😂 accurate
@@VitoHGrind don't get it😐😣
I love how casual he is about just violently crashing the tesla.
And just buying another one, randomly out of pocket.
@@Happymali10 wasn't his tesla and he didn't buy the other one. I would be more casual if they weren't my cars that got crashed either lmao
I mean he was gonna either land in the hill or fly off the mountain. I’d rather hit the hill than fly off the pit.
Well it wasn't really his car. Nothing drives like a "rental".
I think race teams, drivers etc just accept that things literally go sideways sometimes.
Just part of the deal. However it would freak me out to spend that much effort and crash.
It's incredible how easily he can break down the entire sequence of what happened even though it was all in a split second. Most people would just think everything went wrong at once, but he's able to specifically break down everything and make it easy to follow.
Oh its easy when you've been in a serious wreck. Life runs at 10% haha.
He's an animal, or maybe a falcon.
Very fast eyes, very fast hard-drive too. A great guest here.
It's not that hard, once you don't turn on the radios and really feel the car. I'm not a racing driver, but to every spins and accidents I had, I could tell what happened right after. Mostly it's me being a dumbass, but you can really tell what part of the car did scraped, which tire loosed traction and how the car went sideways after a blind elevation. At least, on an old analogue car w/out electronic steering.
@@JMDrives was about to say this, you put it well. I've been in various "Oh shiiit! *boom*" scenarios and I know exactly what happened in what sequence, with one exception which was a really bad one and doctors at the time did not think I'd pull through, I needed to have my face put back together with titanium pieces, there wasn't enough bone left. I had a concussion so bad they thought for sure I would die just from that, if not all the rest.
They would also have done a proper post-mortem over the accident, before the interview also...
Randy talks about crashing at 80 mph irl like I talk about crashing in forza
Honestly..
while very narrowly missing going off the edge of a cliff...
That's so savage: mentioning that he beat the lap record at Laguna seca during testing just as a side note 😆
Tesla heard you'd modified one of their cars and decided to deactivate your steering
LOL ironically the opposite happened. Tesla sent two In house Technicians out to save the car in 2 days. They actually completed the hill climb. I found that surprising.
@Real M Jokes are only funny if they are abit of truth and clever. Silly Falsehoods are just lame.
@Real M So you are a LIAR got it. I'm a BEV Fanatic before Tesla Cars existed. Worked on a BEV conversion project in 2004 and got hooked. Tesla just happens to be a Subset of BEVs. You just fall in line with what ever is lazy popular. Don't be a sheep.

The best part about this story is he is still around to tell it.
Randy was just trying to fix the panel gaps on the Tesla 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
When I saw the picture of the car up in the air, I thought it was one of my valets who might be behind the wheel.
I am so glad randy is ok.
That's after it left the road. I don't think he was going to make that corner traction loss or not, he went in way too hot.
Randy i saw your tesla driving here in the springs. I tried to catch up and got pulled over... thankfully just a warning

You too?

Im in a Black 2.5rs lol
ah, you used the ol' I saw Randy Pobsts excuse huh? lul
This Chanel reminds me of when my grandmother used to tell me these awesome rugged stories of her childhood.
Randy could talk about prostate health awareness and I would watch it.
That 8:30 maniacal laughter gets me 😆
"Now we going the wrong way in a hurry..."
Glad you alright Randy!
Randy Pobst flying in a car: reasoning, evaluating, questioning.
Me flying in a car: *FUUUUUUUUU*
What I’d like to know is did that lack of engine sound have any effect on the speed of the reaction?
In a car with a combustion engine you can hear the revs rise when the tyres lose traction and therefore react accordingly.
Just wondering if this is a factor in an electric car having never driven one.
With the silence of EVs, you can pretty much hear *everything* that goes on with the car; you can hear the tires physically engsging with the ground
Additionally electric cars aren't fully silent - you do still have a little bit of motor revs, especially on race EVs with gearboxes (like Formula E cars)
Straight cut gears do make a lot of sound aswell
I like Randy, that's it, I just really like how he talks and the words he says
"When the car is in the air, stability control can't help much." Pobst 2020
Amazing how relaxed and carefree he is about crashing someone else's race car. I would want to crawl under a rock and hide. 😎
Race insurance
That won't achieve much
Oh sweet! Some of my footage being used on vinwiki!🤓 I've made it!!
I may be a bad person for saying this, but Randy couldn't have picked a better time and place to wreck as far as the channel is concerned😳😂
As long as he's ok I can say that. The world needs @randypobst in it. Love the videos Ed!🤙
Owner: ok Randy, don't wreck the car
Andy: ok, wreck the car...
"i dont need no stinking practice" after he destroys a car...
Randy's way of telling stories is something else...
Pikes Peak lost it's charm to me with the tarmac, wish I'd been able to see when they threw the group B rally monsters at it.
Oh it was a time, very fun to see. I think I was almost 30 when they raced those
very unfortunate. dirt is the best. luckily nascar is bringing the dirt back as well as colorado has some grassroots rally stuff thats fun
I have seen movies of Super Modified Sprint cars on the dirt. They were only straight for an instant between power slides. Going into the corners. Great fun.
Jesus Christ... how many people’s cars has this guy crashed for them.
Well when you are maximum attack its not an uncommon thing to happen
@David Br "1% of the time these things happen"
Yeah, you mean 33% of the time Randy, 2/6 times at pikes peak in someone else car.
Are electric race cars the way of the future?
I hope not, I like the sound of cars🥰
Yes
I hope not, but its the future
I hope not
No.
He's so humble and candid. "We made it to the top." What he didn't say- he finished second-- after totaling the car and without practice on most of the top half of the run. Dang! Am now a fan of this guy. Can't wait to see him at the Freedom 500 this weekend.
11:29 "I don't need no stinkin practice"
Welp, there is your problem.
Exactly.....over confidence sucks.....and have even been warn about that spot.
Intelligent guy would listen ...
You need the guy from Garage 54 channel with the awesome interpreter . You know he has some crazy russian stories about cars
Garage 54? How about “Car 54, Where are you?”
What is it with this man and insane crashes. Love the stories though!
When you've raced at the level he has, for as many years as he has, there are bound to be some incidents and accidents along the way! :P But yes, he's got some great stories. I also had the pleasure to briefly meet him at Watkins Glen many years ago, and he was every bit as nice as you'd think, from these videos. A true gentleman.
@@jonesRG I am somehow facebook friends with him, and we chat occasionally. He's so freaking nice!

Who in the F disliked Randy's story after 8 minutes??
must've been the guy who ran into him at the race in florida 🤣🤣🤣
No shit! Wtf is wrong with ppl?! Randy is like the coolest guy ever!
I wouldn't take it personally. There seems to be a tribe of trolls on UA-cam that go around downvoting everything under the sun. And, to be fair, they're a minority that doesn't affect anything. At the time of this post, there's 1.3K upvotes and 16 downvotes. So, why give yourself an ulcer over something that 1. is relatively minor, 2. out of your control either way, and 3. doesn't affect your life. :D

The owner of the car he crashed?
Love seeing you on Pikes Peak - America's Mountain Paul!
It will nice in 2021, to have nearly everything back on schedule.
Elon: we going to space
Randy: I'll try with this model 3
This is the first time I'm learning why it's called Plaid. Thank you.
"CCC"...Civil Conservation Commission. A 1930's Great Depression era work program from the Roosevelt administration. My dad was in it as a teenager and was stationed in Colorado building trails, or whatever infrastructure was needed. Whatever money was earned was sent home to feed the family. Tough times they were.
They need to bring that program back ASAP.
Might have been WPA, though, since I think they focused more on roads. Though the CCC did more in federal lands from what I'm reading, so it could have been either. And yeah, we could do with some new infrastructure projects. Mainly just fixing the old ones.
@@roaddog7542 it was a huge failure economically. We certainaly do not need more make-work programs.

Genuinely a nice guy too. I was able to meet him after his run up Pikes Peak last summer.
When you google a guys name and all it is is car crash after car crash you kind of wonder why he's even still able to race.
90 wins talks
He has so many crashes because he pushes cars to the limit chasing milliseconds.
Problem is when you're at the limit it doesn't take much to go wrong for you to crash

High praise, I grew up watching Jackie Stewart.
Hey @richrebuilds new project?
The only car I totaled was my 2001 VW Jetta, for the same reason. The apex was also the top of a hill. My tire popped off the rim during the slide and the rim dug in to the pavement, becoming a pivot for a nice flippie de do onto the roof.
I drove Pikes Peak in a Chevy Cruise lol took 15-18mins

Tribute to the Tesla that it saved the driver and the battery ( seriously dont want to be stuck in a car with damaged battery. )
Though sounds like battery had a fault now lol.
Gives me confidence that I would be at least as safe in a Tesla as would be be in ice car if not safer.
So inquiring minds want to know... what was wrong with the battery on the "second" car?! Was it damaged internally from the wreck?
Probably a squished coolant line?
Because the New battery did not have the modified extra Cooling the original battery had.
Having a couple rc cars as a kid. Yes we know they have most power when fresh charge.
Seems like everyone messes up on practice laps always the damn practice laps
Way too much Teslas a** kissing for my liking
"Sorry I crashed your racecar" has to be one of the toughest parts of being a racing driver. Most racecars cost a PILE of money.
This main sound was the sound of the gravel hitting the bottom of the car.....My God, I would miss so much the noise of a race engine.’’’Nothing such as a traditional combustion engine 😀
For pikes peak electric is awesome because you have no decline is horsepower as you go up. But this much horsepower has never been seen near the top of the climb.
