      @@spacecadet0 I've been in a couple of situations like that, it's a *unique* experiences, to say the least.
      Although I've also "Flown" a 4WD, *unintentionally*, at a low speed! I hadn't slowed down enough for a small flood-way. The exit side of said flood-way is steep and with around 45km/h of speed (50km/h max speed zone) my old Datsun 720 4X4 cleared all four wheels from the ground. I didn't realise it was airborne until I felt the thing "touch down" and compress the suspension all the way to the bump-stops.
      I'm just thankful I didn't turn the steering wheel at that moment, I hate to think about what could've happened if I had.
      Still, I had to check my pants afterwards because I wasn't sure.

      @@411Adidas well, depending on how much he races, I'm willing to think he has a low crash rate. He just has a lot of crash stories. 😃 When you're on the precipice of the edge of control - arguably you're the fastest. It's just there's a lot to go wrong and it goes wrong fast, faster than folks can react. Sometimes you can save it, but others, it's just best to hold on. You can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs. And you won't get better without pushing yourself to be better. With that push, you're liable to make mistakes and that's just racing. Learning from it, and owning it, is how you get better.

      @@afroman5531 It's been true in my experience as well. I've never felt scared while flying off track necessarily (happens too quickly), but I have felt sad and embarrassed. I once got knocked into another car (I was hit by another driver), and I felt terrible about the car I hit (even though it wasn't my fault per se). I totally expected the other driver to be pissed at me and at the situation, but he was very calm about it. Even though he said that he couldn't really afford his repairs at that time, he was very gracious and understanding. That's one of the things I love about the auto racing community: everyone I've dealt with has been super nice and humble.

      It's not that hard, once you don't turn on the radios and really feel the car. I'm not a racing driver, but to every spins and accidents I had, I could tell what happened right after. Mostly it's me being a dumbass, but you can really tell what part of the car did scraped, which tire loosed traction and how the car went sideways after a blind elevation. At least, on an old analogue car w/out electronic steering.

    What I’d like to know is did that lack of engine sound have any effect on the speed of the reaction?
    In a car with a combustion engine you can hear the revs rise when the tyres lose traction and therefore react accordingly.
    Just wondering if this is a factor in an electric car having never driven one.

    • @skyscall
      @skyscall 3 роки тому +24

      With the silence of EVs, you can pretty much hear *everything* that goes on with the car; you can hear the tires physically engsging with the ground
      Additionally electric cars aren't fully silent - you do still have a little bit of motor revs, especially on race EVs with gearboxes (like Formula E cars)
