Same here--Called Malibu about the tires and rims and they laughed. Called Malibu about the motor and they laughed. They just laugh at anybody buying one of those boats.
My friend was a mechanic for Malibu, they used to laugh so hard at these useless things, especially the one time every 2 years someone actually used one and needed maintenance...
99% of the time I'm a big go out and drive your shit person, but I don't really think this is the boat you buy to use in this way, it's more of a take out for a sunday or late afternoon speed run and then put back on the boat lift. If you really want to use a boat, any early 2000's malibu can do all the same things, just slightly slower and less unique, but they still sound amazing at WOT and are plenty fast. Having had a 2003 malibu sunscape since new in the family I can say I've always wanted one of the corvette boats too though!
I totally agree.. I had a 2004 Malibu response LX and currently have a '99 response LX. Very little trouble, mostly just normal maintenance. They do most everything well (except surfing). Killer wake for slolam.. excellent wake for barefooting... very practical... but not a single cleat! Plenty of other places to tie up to... I thought the Corvette boat was cool but glad I don't own one!
My boat has four of them! They’re made by Seven Marine. They’re called 627s. It’s an outboard. Basically an supercharged LS adapted to an outboard. I love it! For my boat I didn’t trust impellers. I put a thru hull fitting in my engine compartment. I got a 200 gph electric pump and tied it in with the cooling system. If I’m out and the impeller ever quits I just flip the switch.
I miss having a boat I grew up going to Maine every summer and my dad had an old lobster boat with some engine mods since it wasn't being used as a lobster fishing boat, had to sell it when he got diagnosed with brain cancer, I miss him and the as he would say, the vessel known as the owl
Stuart D the fact that it had no cleats whatsoever really proves that it was really just built for show. After hearing about the black interior, the carpet floor, and power windows, the regular “dry” speakers weren’t as surprising... at least they were “covered” in the front storage area!
6:20. You don't need to replace an impeller unless the blades get damaged. The wear ring, on the other hand, should be replaced every year for best performance, but does not have to be replaced that often. None of that matters since your boat uses a propeller and not a jet drive, though.
Always wanted one of these Malibu Corvette boats. I remember seeing the ad for the first gen in Waterski magazine back in the 90s. Very cool to see this.
I actually sold one of these in 2008(work at a dealer) It was vin #26. Only time it was ever driven was when we put it on, and took it back off the guys lift. He never drove it. Scared the hell out of him. I drove it twice, absolute rocket as far as ski boats are concerned.
I remember the 70's show car/ boat that was a banana yellow stingray and drag boat in matching yellow. They had done it up with a roll bar to look stingray-ish and had the seats and ash as well with tail lights across the back the back that plugged into the car lighting. Both the Corvette and boat had matching blown big block motors. Both looked really cool but I'm willing to bet the boat was best on the trailer.
There is a real aqua vette near Seattle made of real 67 vette, parts acquired from various wrecking yards, it's powered by a 50HP outboard motor. it has a real front clip, door skins, quarters, trunk lid, tail lights, everything, it sits atop what was once a 14 foot fiberglass row boat
So most all boats around that time came with carpeted interiors, that is pretty common so that I don't think is a design flaw of this boat in particular. Also the tires more than likely blew because they were the original tires and were just old, expired, and dry rotted. Many new boats, including mine, come with 18" rims and low profile car tires on the trailer. I've logged over 10,000 miles on mine with absolutely no issues. Heated seats and heaters are also a common feature of tow boats, especially for people who live in up north who many want to get an extra month or two use since their summers are so short. The LS7 is small block so I am not sure how it would be much more difficult to work on space wise than any other small block in a tow boat. I have a DOHC 6.2 V8 from a Raptor in my boat with fresh water cooler and there is ample room to reach everything.
there is a show out there where they normally build cars, but they got hold of a boat, and made it look like a corvette. It has TWO engines. They made a piece for the back that looks like the old Split window desgin, corvette tail lights, all that, but still is a boat.
Someone who lived on the pond near my house growing up had a Corvette boat. This was in the 90s, so obviously the original. It was on the water all the time, and I remember thinking it was so badass.
i was going to buy one of these c6 boats at one point. i even drove 16 hours to look at it, did a once over, got back in my truck and drove another 16 hours home.
