Churchill had won us the WWII? News to me. I always thought he was intractable old fashioned political operator who did not mind sacrificing 50% of British Air-force men in order to level completely many cities in Germany which only hurt women and children. Britain participation in WWII was irrelevant to the war final result. If Britain stayed completely out of it like Sweden the outcome would have been exactly the same. US and RU won us WWII, not some fat slobbering fool who made loud pronouncements and sent his men to pointless deaths. Churchill is Charles de Gaulle of Britain.
The RAF defeated the Luftwaffe ln 1940 and then the UK defeated Rommel's forces in north Africa.The SBS(1SAS) attacked Axis forces in Italy,Croatia and Greece from 1943-45 with only just over 100 men.Britain provided a strategic foothold to launch the D day invasion in 1944 led by the SAS. Without this small island the world would be a nastier place.
@@paul7233 exactly , churchill was not perfect and had many faults (he was as racist as the day is long) , but was not genocidal , wanted the colonies to prosper and flourish, rather than just simply be exploited and from the beginning called out nazism and communism as the evils they actually were. Without the british empire , there is no D-day, without the british empire germany would have faced the soviet union one on one instead of having to devote the bulk of it's airforce and navy to counter the RAF and RN and germany would have conquered the USSR. A german victory over the USSR would have gifted germany with an economy the size of the united states or possibly larger after germany inevitably subdued britain and the entire hemisphere would have been lost to Nazism. There would have been no way for the allies to defeat germany after the USSR fell.

Some of your heroes were colonialists and killers. They were not gentlemen for the colonized.
