"M4 Ultra will outperform any Nvidia GPU" This cannot be further from the truth, even a mobile RTX 4070 wipes the floor with every Apple GPU in existence, let alone a Desktop 4070 which is 40% faster than its laptop variant, and a Desktop 4090 is 4 TIMES faster than a laptop 4070, Apple simply have no hope with M4 Extreme, and Nvidia is not sitting idle, 5080 and 5090 are rumored to be released in Q3 or Q4 this year, and they're rumored to be monsters, 70% faster performance in rasterized games, and 200% faster in ray traced games compared to a 4090 which is already beyond Apple's wildest expectations. It's good enough for MS office, Facebook and e-mail, anyway... Really want to work? We can sell you 8Gb Ram and 256gb of SSD for a price of an iPad. Want a 24Gb and 1Tb? We sell that for a price of an iPhone Pro! Too expensive? Buy our overpriced PRO machines. At least it comes with 18Gb of Ram and 512Gb... Want more RAM and SSD? We sell that for the price of an iPhone...

Same! But M3 Max instead of M3 Ultra. I cannot see Apple skip M3 for all these Macs: Mac Mini Mac Studio Mac Pro Right now... M3: MBA, MBP14 low-end, iMac M3 Pro: MBP14/16 M3 Max: MBP14/16 Only one Mac got Pro and Max. That makes no sense. Apple wanna make as much money as possible from the M3 lineup??
I’ve been waiting on fire for the best M3 Ultra Studio to move my serious pro work from my M1 Pro MacBook Pro which is connected to a Tri- monitor setup in a clamshell mode. But I need the highest number of CPU and GPU cores with most importantly double the ANU cores. The Max chip is not an option for me as it has only double the GPU cores in the Pro, while keeping the same amount of CPU and ANU cores, and probably the same amount of encoders/ decoders. Not a good upgrade in my case. From first rumours I was hoping the M4 Ultra Studio will be released this year skipping M3 Ultra. I have to wait for the M4 as Apple always give the worst version when introducing new node design then follow it with the best version in the next generation, like they did when introduced the 5nm in iPhone 12, but perfected it with a big difference in the iPhone 13. I need the enhanced ANU and the perfected 3nm chip, and now I have to wait longer. It’s very frustrating, I am in the same boat. Very excited hoping the wait will end any minute as I’m currently struggling with my M1 Pro, but won’t pay the Studio premium unless it’s the right machine that I’m gonna stuck with for the next 3+ years, and prices are ridiculous, especially if you want to upgrade the RAM for example. Just want to mention that Microsoft believes that all new AI PCs will need 40 TOPs to be considered AI certified or ready so they can run LLMs locally. No current M2 or M3 based chip has that many TOPs, so I think that Apple needs to make sure all M4 chips have that many TOPs to remain competitive and will revamp their AI processing.
That said though the M2 Max, M2 Ultra and M3 Max chips are the only consumer products in the market that have enough VRAM for 70b models. They are not the fastest, but to do that with traditional GPUs you need to buy either 3 4090s for $6000 or an A100 for $40000 + the PC cost. So yeah currently for local LLMs apple is one of the best options, despite not being the fastest.
AI is a marketing spiel to sell you a laptop. Most people using AI will not need that level of performance. Apple also measures its TOPS using FP16 (16-bit floating point), which differs from 1:1 compared with rivals. FP16 is obviously different in machine learning to FP32 in many ways. These include less memory use and faster but less precision without balances.

I'm wanting to upgrade my 5K 27" iMac, but refuse to go the current 24". I reckon if they released say a ~30 inch M3 (or better) iMac, not even going "Pro", it would fly off the shelves, but I guess Apple must feel the market/consumer desire just isn't big enough (yet) ?
I believe it was for design reasons, cheaper to make a 24 inch with high PPI than a 27. But you could instead get a 5k display or even bigger with a Mac mini or entry studio. I agree it’s not an all in one but you would get better performance on the other hand
This is kind of counter to what your brother was suggesting a few days ago, where he believe Apple may release the higher end chips first, before releasing the lesser M4 and M4 Pro chips, being that Apple hasn't updated the Studio or the Mac Pro in quite a while, and the M3 Max has been out for several months now.
@@adredy Because Apple seems to introduce more „odd“ RAM amounts like 18 or 24 GB. More possibilities to let people pay extra for slight RAM size increases. Instead of just putting in 32 or 64 GB in everything and be done with it.
It’s not just that e cores aren’t necessary on a desktop computer, it’s that some developers are struggling to get their software to perform well in Apple’s asymmetrical multi processing architecture, when their code was multithreading extremely well with x86’s symmetric processing. Some apps, like Handbrake execute very well across e and p cores. But there’s a certain classes of apps that are still struggling with thread management, task, distribution and load balancing. macOS is mainly responsible for this but applications can be optimized for parallel execution, and multithreading. I’m not sure if removing e cores will help developers with this issue, but it may help with thread affinity preferences by if MacOS isn’t having to make decisions on distributing workload across heterogeneous processors.
I need one, have to get one. But I want it in a smaller Mac studio box. The Mac Pro box is just pointless. It's not like it's a custom built gaming PC where we can upgrade every part of it individually, so why do we need it to take up all that room.
Many users would rather prioritize CPU over GPU performance when specifying a system for their purchase but Apple seems to include large numbers of GPU cores with systems that include large number of CPU cores. The extra GPU cores do have a cost not only monetarily but in terms of precious die real-estate which could be used for more CPU cores. In the PC world, one could buy a system with a high end Threadripper processor with a mid-grade GPU so mixing and matching is possible in the PC world.
Just bought a 16 inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro for 2450 Canadian. Was going to sell for 3k and grab an M3 Max for 4000 canadian so essentially into an M3 Max for 3450. But you are saying hold off on buying the M3 Max (which means wouldn’t sell my M3 Pro) and wait for the M4 to drop ? Could easily sell the M3 Pro for 2 k and not lose all that much.
Huh, I was thinking that N3e was meant to be a mainstream node, but it sounds like it isn’t? I think one of the biggest challenges is bringing more RAM to the architecture without increasing power or latency. A lot of people wanting the power of the MacPro also want really massive RAM, and I don’t think just doubling the maximum to 256 GB is going to be enough.
I just upgraded from a 2020 intel MacBook Pro to an M3 Max a month ago and its been a game changer for my audio production... Im sure the M4 will be more powerful but I don't see myself needing anymore power than I have now unless I'm planning on recording a thousand tracks, which I will NEVER do lol.

It’s crazy that in less than a decade we’ll have chips manufactured at the angstrom level. Chip manufactures will need to be able to manipulate individual atoms, and deal with the quantum effects that are introduced when manufacturing something so small and so complex such as a CPU at these incredibly small sizes. It’s almost unimaginable. Just creating the tools for sub-nano manufacturing alone will change the world in ways we can’t yet imagine.
The reason they are doing the Extreme chip is not the Mac Pro it is about using this chip in their data centers. Mac Pros are just not sold in substantial quantities. They can be cheaper and more power efficient than NVIDIA.
I wouldn't consider anything confirmed until Apple actually ships it.... Until then, it's just a rumor... Maybe a well sourced and triple verified rumor, but still a rumor... Fun to speculate about the future of the M series of chips... 😀
I believe this is staged(not that i say the vulnerability is fake but they knew from the begging and they just wanna see the saturation of sales) and to make more m4 sales coz all has same similar performance
I said at the very beginning of Apple Silicon that they were focusing too much on mobile use and basically putting laptop CPUs in desktop computers. Not that the CPUs were bad, but desktops just didn’t see much, if any, advantage over laptops, vs. x86 PCs that had far better desktop performance against laptops. The only advantage of a Mac mini is cheaper price due to no built-in display…and arguably better cooling. It’s nice to see Apple is supposedly finally serious about desktop-only CPUs and not just the kludge the Ultras are.
I am in the same situation, I need a Mac Studio but I don’t want to buy an one year old one, at least at the actual, the base model in Spain is starting at $2550…
Have to admit the reason I don’t ever upgrade is because the new version gets hype a couple months after launch and rumors pop up soon then the new iteration happens 10-12 months after the version you just bought. We have no time to enjoy anything without the new version being talked about and manufactured. We spend so much money to constantly have the old version
Welcome to the tech world! It's literally what every tech company does is update their devices every year (on most things, not all). It's only more evident for us when we are really paying attention on a product we really want and keep tabs on.
Thx for the report, M3/4 Ultra significant upgrade was more less expected to arrive as scaling of the M1/2 Ultra chips with Fusion IO wasn't working as expected. It looks like Apple is opting for MCM technology we can see now in the Nvidia's Blackwell which is overcoming these flaws and delivering true multi chip scaling. Apple with TSMC r clearly cooking something very similar to what Nvidia went with.

@@tuesdayswithed I also need a Mac Studio, now I’m using a MacBook Pro 16 M1 Pro 16GB RAM. The biggest issue for me is the RAM. In my next Mac I will put at least 64GB RAM. Personally I will wait until June, we can see a new Mac Studio with M3 MAX. If not, I will grab the M2 MAX.
Here's an important thing to note: The Mac Pro has literally zero reason to be that damn big if they aren't going to offer some legitimately compelling add-on cards or additional removable internal storage connectivity. Also, I'd really appreciate it if they treated it as an actually professional device instead of just a very expensive consumer device. Like, expandable storage is a no-brainer. A viable selection of add-on cards should be feasible given Apple's value as a company. And RAM. Professionals need the ability to upgrade RAM in the future as workloads continue to grow in memory requirements. It used to be that workstations could get by with 32GB of RAM. Now 64GB is pretty standard. If you want to work with 4K HDR at full bit depth, you'll probably need in excess of 128GB to be able to work with a reasonable amount of the timeline stored in memory. And rendering out 8K HDR with less than 1TB of RAM is just a pipe dream. I'd appreciate if Apple opted for something similar to Dell's CAMM technology to allow RAM packages to be mounted to the board with the shortest trace length possible for a removable package. Like, as long as they can be removed and the modules are supported for at least three generations, I'm even okay with them being proprietary. And, personally, I'd like the CPU to be socketed so customers can upgrade that as well if Apple decides to make some notable mid-cycle upgrades that make sense for customers to shell out a reasonable amount of money to upgrade to without needing to make an excessive amount of e-waste.

I have been putting off upgrading my son’s computer waiting for powerful M3 chips to come to desktop models. It’s hard because he is 15, interested in game design and constantly hinting that he would prefer a Windows PC. My plan was to drop a M3 with great graphics on him, hoping that would suffice for a time. Having a desktop Mac would help his mother and I manage a young person’s computer (we are both solidly Mac people) and then of course when he was older he could do whatever he wished, perhaps getting a RGB space heater… although I would be tempted to get him to pay for the extra electricity he used. 😂
*M4 Ultra would probably have two ultrafusion connections to allow at least 4x M4 Ultra chips to connect together. So you can choose between 1-4 ultra chips connected together, possibly even more.* *The single M4 ultra chip is going to be a massive die. i wonder how apple will get high yields with a chip that big.*
With so many M chips, it would be awesome to connect all of them together with thunderbolt to share processing power similar to how EGPU works. Especially would be helpful for exporting images or video.

The GPU on Apple sadly would remain a handicap and Nvidia would still be the performance king.
lol no, listen you're a gamer, there are no games on mac. In real tasks the 4090 cannot compete already or barely at 600watts vs 100 lmao. there is also little reason to compare it to ancient nvidia hardware. you cannot use it in modern computers like a mac anyway.
I totally agree when we talk about LLM and other machine learning tasks. Nvidias Cuda Cores are outperforming the apple chips at the moment
@@DoctorAthom except they don't in practice. plenty of benchmarks and tests, only desktop who use copious amounts of energy can beat it, but it's not really beating that way.

Sorry Vadim, you’re outta your mind if you think that they’re gonna compete with NVIDIA. They currently don’t have anything close to the H100 (let alone whatever Blackwell has brought) or the MI flagship AMD has made. But I’m sure you’ll find some metric that lets you declare victory, even though we all know what’s going on.
Which means basically 2 things. 1) We won't get any M3 Ultra/Extreme this year. 2) We won't get an M4 Ultra this year in June - which contradicts the previous video you did.
Are you surprised with this channel?
Apple: Let's pair M4 with soldered 8Gb of Ram and 256Gb slow SSD, to save a 1 or 2 bucks on our Pro machine, and screw our customers who want to work or game in our machines.

I need a M3 Ultra Studio now! I have been waiting till June now what! The big oversized Mac Pro is off the table literally for me. Both price and space wise! How about another IMac Pro with proper thermals. I still use mine every day. I know many pro users who feel the same way!
Same! But M3 Max instead of M3 Ultra.
I cannot see Apple skip M3 for all these Macs:
Mac Mini
Mac Studio
Mac Pro
Right now...
M3: MBA, MBP14 low-end, iMac
M3 Pro: MBP14/16
M3 Max: MBP14/16
Only one Mac got Pro and Max.
I wish the base M4 Ultra comes with more than 64GB or they reduce the RAM ridiculous upgrade price, but Cook will try to Milk us every possible way until it’s obsolete!

But will have to wait for the M4 which is supposed to have a significant speed bump in the ANU wether because of core count bump or clock speed bump.
A M4 extreme in the Mac Pro will not matter if Apple still lacks expansion options
There’s no Mac Studio Pro, lol!
It’s Mac Pro.
This will be true in the larger picture, mostly, but for certain specific niche tasks the Extreme Studio will outshine the competition. If the M4 Extreme studio will find mass market adoption is questionable for now especially considering the probable price point.
What exactly is an AI PC ?
We need this on the iphone

Of course you can scale the media encoders. Tell the first to encode 0:00 to 4:59 and the second to encode 5:00 to 10:00 of your 10 minute video.
*M4 Ultra would probably have two ultrafusion connections to allow at least 4x M4 Ultra chips to connect together. So you can choose between 1-4 ultra chips connected together, possibly even more.*
*The single M4 ultra chip is going to be a massive die. i wonder how apple will get high yields with a chip that big.*
With so many M chips, it would be awesome to connect all of them together with thunderbolt to share processing power similar to how EGPU works. Especially would be helpful for exporting images or video.

Gah, wish Apple would help the efforts to bring Linux to Mac hardware. MBPs and MBAs are physically the best laptops you can get but MacOS holds them back so hard.
Mac Pro is a "professional" platform, priced accordingly. What if Apple used this node to introduce a "gamer" product, aimed at a lower price point but with the graphics power needed for gaming in a simple package like a Mac mini, minus all the video production hardware, and appropriate accessories to complete the package? Would it sell?
The mere fact Apple was going to give you 'inferior' products as compared to the competition is embarrassing. So the 'shut-down' of M3 devices in order to get M4 products is upmost 🎉
