Instant Pot Beautiful Baked Beans

Baked Beans
-1lbs navy beans (soaked over night in cold water and 1-2tbsp of salt). Drain and rinse very well with cold water prior to use.
-Small-medium diced onion (I use red)
-2-3 minced garlic gloves
-1lbs thick sliced bacon (cut in pieces)
-1/4c molasses
-1/4c maple syrup
-1tbsp soy sauce
-1 & 3/4 cup cold water
-Salt
-Pepper
-2tsp dijon mustard
-1tsp apple cider vinegar
1. Crisp bacon on sauté mode, remove excess fat if you choose.
2. While bacon is cooking mix together the molasses, maple syrup, soy sauce, and water.
3. Add onion and sauté with bacon for 2-3 mins.
4. Add garlic, cook 30-60 secs more.
5. Add some of molasses mixture to pot and deglaze the bottom, scrapping up all the tasty bits.
6. Add remainder of mixture and the beans. Salt and pepper can be added also.
7. Turn off sauté. Place and lock lid. Set to manual or pressure cook for 20mins. Allow for a 20mins natural pressure release.
8. Remove lid when pin drops. Turn on sauté, add mustard and vinegar, allowing to simmer until thickens to preference.
My husband recently passed away and I am now cooking for 1. I recently purchased a 3 qt duo instant pot and I am cutting your recipe in half to cook for myself. Wish me luck, I certainly don’t want so many beans I’m eating them for a week. Thank you for this recipe.
I'm in love for a couple of reasons, You had me with easier just to throw them in a pot overnight AND the Bacon.AND the fact that you are Canadians. Must have onions and garlic lol. Thanks ladies. loved this video and will try today

These are the best baked beans were fantastic! Instead of bacon I added a teaspoon of smoked paprika and it was goooood!

@@hislamb4528 for sure! I ended up making another batch and froze in small portions so I can have a hot dog and beans when I want. They are just as good after they defrost and heated up!

This recipe was amazing. I added about half a cup of BBQ sauce and 1/4 cup of Ketchup. It came out amazing !!!! The last time I baked beans it took forever. No more!!!💕❣️💜

I tried this recipe and I’ve been using it for my instant pot beans. I do add a bit if brown sugar.
A little brown sugar never hurt nobody hahahaha Glad you enjoy it!
Love this recipe. 2nd time I tried it I subbed the bacon for a small ham hock. I recommend looking for ham hocks next time you go grocery shopping, adds a world of flavor at roughly the same cost as bacon.

If you put a "large" Office Clip on the rim of your pot, it will hold the pot from spinning and you won't burn your fingers when stirring.

looking forward to more of your recipes in the Instant Pot. I cook in it every day. I think I love the Sirloin Tip Roast, Pork Tenderloin and hamburg, cabbage and bows mixed together the best. . I can go on and on I'm a senior so that quilts, so when I make the supper with the instant pot I push the button and go and make my tops for Victoria's Quilts when it buzzes we go and eat.

I have family members that will not eat any food if they detect onions in it. I have a hack that works well, I've used it for many years. I use my 4 cup food processor to grind/chop the onions into a paste like consistency and add that to the recipe and have never been caught.😂

I am embarking on my first attempt to make brown beans in my instant pot. I’m going to turn 70 this year and my family have always eaten canned beans. Now the price for canned beans is so outrageous that the time has come. I will be carefully checking the price comparison of home made from scratch (although I looked for ‘scratch’ at the grocery store and couldn’t find any).
I am trying your recipe for 2 separate pots of similar. I am making what I cal Chuck Wagon by using hamburger in one pot and in the other I am using Beyond Meat for a vegetarian version. The first pot is almost done. Thank you. I enjoyed your video greatly.

I live in Vermont, so we have lots of good maple syrup here, too. Oddly though, I didn't add it into my beans. They are cooking in the IP now. Wish I watched this earlier!

will use oil to cook the onions etc not bacon to keep it vegetarian but nice to see real Canadian women cooking up a storm on you tube, nice video ladies. You look like you are having fun. will be making this tomorrow for sure. And I can vouch for... it's cute to be short lol
If I understood right in the early part of our New England coast in America they would use beans and make a sandwich from the barbecue beans I think that sounds delicious!
I really like the procedure. I got new instant pot and think beans should be soaked over night . when to add salt is logical. I have my own receipt but this procedure seems great .tks
I did as I was thinking with beans and they turned out great . There Was more liquid than I am used to( but I was expecting this) so I just mashed up half cup of cooked beans and this works great I really love my instant pot

Hey, I have made this recipe and you don't have to soak the Navy beans. Just rise the beans well, and Bob's your brother.
You do realize that Barbados molasses is the ONLY cooking molasses. Look it up to see how blackstrap is made. A hundred years ago (in the north) and still today in the south blackstrap is considered to be hog food. Blackstrap is what’s left after they bottle up the good Barbados molasses. The reason blackstrap has become popular is because it has more calcium & healthnuts claim it’s better for you. It tastes bitter & salty compared to Barbados. Please, google it. You won’t be cooking with sludge anymore after reading it.
Being a displaced Canadian (Cornwall, Ontario and living in Virginia) I was so pleased to find out that you are Canadians. I am definitely going to try this recipe. I just have one question - does the salt when soaking and adding it to the pot before it is done affect the beans. Everything I read says don't add it because the beans won't soften when cooking. Looking forward to hearing from you before I try the recipe. Can I enlarge the recipe to use it in my 8-qt Duo that my daughter gave me for Christmas. I have a 6-qt too so no problem if you say I can't.
I always add the salt to soak, but they are rinsed well. And yes, I have waited to end to add salt but haven’t seen much difference.
I have done this recipe in my 8qrt and 6qrt...and have doubled it in both as well.

Caroline Smitten I have doubled the recipe before. I just find with more bacon in the pot it doesn’t saute up as well, you could do the bacon in two batches then combine.

I think you would lose the sweetness, so I would sub in some brown sugar, or alternate sweetener of your choice.

902angelina that may take some trial and error. Maybe 1/4-1/2c. I would try the 1/4 cup and then add more at the end if you want to up the sweetness.
