Just curious. The recommendations for several years now have been from the name brands like Shimano, G. Loomis, etc. I get that these brands receive the pub for a reason. They are good. My question for you is do you consider the lessor known brands as inferior. For example, do you consider brands like Six Gill or Kastking. Even the $100 combos are brand names. I am a guy who is happy with lessor name products as long as the quality is there.
@@MichaelJones-bp7tl I’ve had good luck with KastKing products. Good price for good equipment. My pops is a big Shimano fan, and he sold me on them when he let me try his Aldebaran 50 MGL. That finesse reel is ridiculous at how well it handles weightless lures. Even when going against wind.
@@MichaelJones-bp7tl a little late here but I think I can give some insight. The reason that true fishing gear heads almost all recommend and run Daiwa and Shimano products is pretty simple. Most other companies are being made in the same factories by now and they’re very “cookie-cutter.” Lews, Abu, Pflueger, Quantum, Fenwick, Okuma...they’re all the same product. Shimano and Daiwa stay on the cutting edge with their own technologies and cater to the guy who wants high quality gear. Startup companies, like Sixgill and Kastking, are also having their products made in the same factories to cut expenses and make for an easier startup. There’s only two real competitors if we’re talking mainstream. Rods are a little different. Mega bass, Powell, Phenix, Dobyns, Kistler, and St. Croix all put out quality products.
@@MichaelJones-bp7tl Don't waste your time or money on either of those brands. I gave them a shot and it backfired on me. I was impressed by them at first, bought several because of it, then they started having problems because they are made from inferior materials with terrible quality control. ( cheap Chinese junk) Stick to the well known quality of the well known brands and you won't go wrong. They are well known for a reason. They are made with quality components and have higher quality control standards, plus better customer service if you do have an issue. That is something that you won't get with the other two.

I just recently rediscovered my passion for fishing after a 10 year lay off so I went out and got the new Curado DC reel and that thing is AWESOME!!! I paired it with a new St Croix Legend Tournament and wow what a difference!!!! Now I just have to figure out what my next rod and reel purchase will be. Cant wait for the higher end rods and reels video. GREAT VIDEO GUYS!!!!
I’m glad you profiled the G Loomis E6X series. There are only a handful of third-party reviews of that rod series. I have avoided purchasing that rod because there’s just too little information. So once again thank you.
Thank you for the awesome videos, I learn so much watching you guys. In the future I hope u do more videos up North, we have great fishing in Michigan and would love to see what techniques you would use here. Shimano Zodias and Curado DC is coming soon!! Happy Holidays!!
I’ve went 13 Fishing all out. I don’t own but 1 Shimano now. Big difference when you go to have one worked on or service it yourself or not. I’ve not had one 13 Fishing reel (concepts) make a sound or grinding feeling in a year so far. Butter smooth and casting is out of this world. Don’t even have to thumb the spool at times
Hey guys, thanks for info. I miss seeing CL vids but your channel is the envy of all others, admitted or not. Another one of my favorite channels just referred their subs to you for the “bible on jerk bait fishing” - well done - industry respect must be earned- you have done it!
The Loomis E6X swim bait edition is still my favorite rod paired up with a Tatula out my collection. Soo sensitive and only use it when the bite is extremely tough. Great for drop shot as well.
I started fishing at the end of 2017. I felt guilty for buying an $80 baitcaster combo and never dreamed of having gear past the $100 combos you covered. Fast forward to current day, I have 2 setups in the +$400 range and multiple in the +300 range...largely thanks to sales. The SLX baitcaster was a huge help to get a quality setup while saving some $$ to invest in better rods. The Curado DC is my new fav though. I despise that initial $80 combo but it helped me to appreciate the better gear even more and understand the value of it, beyond just better sensitivity or backbone.
Isn't it amazing what happens when you try quality gear? Its a whole different animal! The DC's are amazing, we find ourselves using them constantly as well. 😃
@@tacticalbassin i have permanent damage to my left hand/wrist from using that $80 combo nearly every day for months. It’s now my “quality check” when trying new rods. If they’re light enough and balanced well, it doesn’t make the pain flare up like the cheap gear does. Better reels require less effort to cast, reducing the wear n tear on my joints. Of course, you guys know this already...but I know now for myself as well. It made it easier to fork over the extra $$ for quality setups. I don’t want to lose any more time on the water due to preventable pain.
@tims_always_fishing t that was mu first setup but left it behind accidentally while bank fishin in a downpour. I went and ‘upgraded’ to a lews american hero combo for the rest of the first year. I hate that rod 😝
Kathy, you nailed it! So many will never realize the importance of this. You start dropping ounces off of something that requires repetitive motion and everything changes. I'm so glad you found your way! For years I believed that I didn't like flipping, but in reality I didn't like the shoulder pain. It was all in the rod! If the day comes that it gets worse and you need to get ultra light let us know and we'll happily help make specific model judgement calls so its not such a gamble.
I would’ve snuck in the expride and the slx mgl..I’m gunna do that combo for top water and jerkbaits. I’m pumped! It’s nice to have a slightly stiffer rod rated for 3/4 of an ounce to throw bigger baits on a medium. All other 6’10 rods cap out at half ounce but that flexibility of slightly larger baits is what I need. Great video guys and have a safe holiday.
Got a Curado K this year and couldn't believe how smooth it is. It's the standard I judge every other reel by now. Only thing is it struggles with lightweight baits. Hoping to try the new Curado MGL next season.
Not sure if you guys have tried the slx and curado 70 mgls but those are butter smooth! Cashion rods do great job buttoning those fish on, especially those headshakers!
If you like the cashion elites the new cashion icons will blow you away. Its lighter and all around sweet. I bought their 6'9" M jerkbait rod and it weighs 3.9 ounces!
Something is wrong with the UA-cam algorithm. My home page showed the $400 combo video, but it was the one from 11 months ago. Had to go to your channel to find this vid. Welcome to TN btw. If you ever want to come to Nashville for some creek smallies hit me up.

Awesome video as always. Still waiting to see you guys review a powell endurance though! A buddy of mine turned me onto them a while back. Hes been fishing over 30 years and used to fish the FLW circuit for a bit, and he says with that rod can hang with g. Loomis rods. I cant speak to that personally, but the performance of the endurance, to me, is unbelievable especially at the price point. Would LOVE to see your guys' take on those one day.

Got a 6’6 ML 2pc Zodias (JDM model) with the monocoque handle paired with a Tatula 100 that I keep in my truck at all times. That’s my favorite $400 combo (comes in closer to $350 and would be even cheaper on Black Friday!) - it balances perfectly on the locknut and is extremely sensitive and light weight. Great for weightless plastics, 1/2oz or lighter jerkbaits and finesse jigs. I even 1/8oz ned heads on it. My other combos are getting jealous.
I think you guys just made up my mind about the Curado DC. I lost an SLX in the water a few weeks ago on one of my last trips, and was wondering if the Curado DC would be a significant upgrade. Thanks for these vids!
Love the Cashion rods and just got a few Icons. They are lighter and more sensitive than the elite , they are showing. They need to put some time in with Daiwa’s. Especially the Elites are sweet reels.
Great job as usual. Like to hear more on loomis EX6. Cashion are great rods. As you're branching out, ever think about Level rods out of SC? Your feedback on products is something I pay attention to for sure.
I love these videos! I’m purchasing the curado 150 dc and I was looking for a 7’ rod but the one you recommend is not available. Is there another you recommend? Does the lure weight matter when choosing a rod? I mainly use worm mainly, some top water and jigs. Thank you so much for all your help guys!!! Keep em cranking!
I have my zodias/vanford combo on order and I can't wait. This will be my first real step up into higher end gear and I have a feeling that it's going to ruin everything else I own.
I have bought a ton of different brands over my life. I always leaned Shimano though. Now I’ve settled in on Curado/Curado combos across the board. I was fishing the BPS Carbolite rods but I had 3 break. I like the Curado rods way more than the carbonlie. Can just feel the higher quality. Only thing about Shimano DC I’m disappointed with is as you say, they still birdsnest.
Love this series!! Wanting to add an Aldebaran MGL 50 to my list. And I mean now that I know your buddy even frogs on it. 🤣 How can I say no. LOL Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
I get asked all the time about a one size fits all combo. Example: I have $300, should I spend more on the reel (which reel) and then which rod or action. I am a fan of Shimano due to the quality of their reels and regardless of price point, I alway recommend their casting reels. Normally recommend around a 6.4:1 ratio and a medium rod with a fast tip. Could you two do a mix match of all around combos at different price points for those that have a set amount that they want to put it all in that one do everything combo. Your experience with different products is way beyond what I can offer. I Appreciate all you do for the sport and look forward to your videos. Hope you and your families have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
I want a vanford in the worst way, im going to my local tackle shop this weekend to see if they have any and if not when they're expecting they're next order
Quick question guys! I preferred the dobyns sierra 7’3” heavy for flipping and frogs. Now I’m doubting myself because I originally was looking at the Zodias 7’5” Heavy! Which one do you think would be better for that?
Ha I just bit the bullet and got a dobyns champion xp 733 spinning rod, hopefully it pays off. Also I’m going to make a swimbait order on tw, I need a job to sustain this at 16. Keep up the content. 😂
I've been fishing the new Zodias for the past month and they are sweet! They are just as light (maybe even a little lighter) as the Exprides A's I have. They are not quite as sensitive as the Expride but if you get the models that are $199 it's totally worth it but if you step up to the Heavy rods that are $220 then I would suggest spending the extra 50 bucks to the Exprides... just my opinion
I recently bought my first $100+ rod and was blown away by the difference between that and my lower end stuff. Would you guys say money is better spent on higher end rods or reels? I'm still new and learning how to get after bass here in Central Cali.
Good video! I have watched all the buyers videos thus far. Having said that, I am sure you want to spread the love, but what about a Dobyns Champ XP and Tatula CT? Right at $400 too... Merry Christmas all!
Hope all is well for you man, tried to message you to ask if you had any baits for sale but noticed your profile was nowhere to be found and you haven't been active on universe.
Where would you guys place the Daiwa Tatula Elite SS (non-AGS) rods in comparison to the rods mentioned in your vid. Thanks guys looking forward to tomorrows video.
This is me speaking personally (Matt). There is a big difference between the fishability of the Elite and Elite AGS. Those heavier guides completely change the feel of the rods in the hand. If you can swing the extra to get AGS, definitely do it. Its not a sensitivity thing, its a feel and balance thing. I'd rank the AGS near the previous version of Zodias, with Non AGS one step down.
I've loved my 13 Fishing Concept reels...except the brakes have been really inconsistent for me. In this price range, I've been using the ALX ZOLO series rods. Blanks made in the US and rods built in South Carolina. Models are pretty technique specific and they are all priced just over $200. Paired with a Curado K, Curado MGL70, SLX DC, Tatula 100, SV or Elite to keep is around $400 for the combo.
The 13 fishing warranty backup is a disaster. Got reel that was defective when it came from TW. They basically told me to get bent. Won't buy any more of 13 products
@@georgeadcock2347 That's actually innacurate. What our entire customer service team does is recommend 2 options. Either send it in (or bring it) to the retailer where it was purchased, or fill out the form on our site and send it into us and we'll dig into it. We never turn anyone away without options. 13fishing.com/reel-warranty
Thinking about getting a G. Loomis E6X 843C MBR, with a Curado 70 MGL. Anyone have experience with either of these? Looking for a nice all around baitcaster.
Short review... its VERY good. We did a bunch of swimbait fishing for striper and big bait chucking for toothy critters with it and have been very impressed! Zero issues of any kind, extremely solid feeling, and it took a beating. I still lean to the Tranx with a power handle for ultimate power but that Curado 300 is phenomenal for its price and brings the low profile baitcaster back into the affordable range for a lot of anglers.
Give alx rods the zolo series a try. Better than my expride in my opinion and cheaper. Zolo toad face, zolo brawler are my two favorites. Underrated for sure
tatula spinning rod and reel is about 375 and in my opinion is as good as it gets. the 2000 spinning reel is 5.7 oz and the 7’ med- med light rod is 3.5 oz.
I tell ya what, a dobyns champion extreme and a daiwa tatula sv TW103 are hard to beat in this range too. Honestly you can get a setup like this for about 410$ on sale. Or come in at under 400$ with a regular champ XP.
Matt/Tim have you guys had a chance to try the new Megabass Levente rods? Also does Tacklewarehouse have the 20% Black Friday sale for Shimano rods and reels? Love the content keep them coming!!!
I need a little help on what to get myself for Christmas 🎅🏻 I’m pretty torn on getting a duckett (specifically the Jacob wheeler 7”2 cranking rod I also may buy the Silverado as well) and I’m wondering if you guys have tried them or have any opinions on them rods or duckett rods in general. If not I’m probably gonna buy the 7”2 m/h glass intenza. Any help will be appreciated I’m open to other suggestions as well.
Quick tip. Go to japanlureshop and get a Scorpion MGL for like $203 shipped. It looks better than a Curado K and casts better because it’s a 150-sized reel with a lighter spool. Everything else, including the hardened brass micro module gears and everything else is the exact same as the Curado K. On top of that they usually throw in a gift. I got an Evergreen Jackhammer when I bought mine and I’ve heard of a lot of people getting Megabass jerkbaits.
We play with JDM offerings as well, the issue though is getting service down the road. Most US reel shops won't touch JDM product. Just know that going in 👍
@@tacticalbassin I had an issue with my anti-reverse clutch and I went into my local tackle shop which is Fishing Tackle Unlimited and they sold me a new part for like 10 bucks. The would have taken it but they had a 2 month wait and I didn’t want to wait that long.
Matt Allen how do you like the New Zodias and Vanford? Do you think a 7ft Medium Action with the Vanford 2500HG is a good setup for drop shotting 1/8 to 3/16 and small plastics on 1/4 to 3/8 jig heads and keitechs basically some finesse and all around setup

It will, you wont want to fish anything less.
You're going to love it!!
@@tacticalbassin Seeing how excited you guys are about it really makes me certain I made a good choice.
@@titaniumcrayon3090 That's what I'm afraid of haha
How did that combo work out for you? Im waiting for the exact same combo to come in
the 13fishing a2 is my next big swimbait reel. I don’t need the size and line capacity of the a3.
Thanks for the videos guys. Have a good Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Yall should do a tour of all your tackle
Love this series!! Wanting to add an Aldebaran MGL 50 to my list. And I mean now that I know your buddy even frogs on it. 🤣 How can I say no. LOL
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
Please do a review on ARK rods would like to know what you guys think of them.
I love all of mine!
I haven't used the most expensive model but the Cobb Tharp and Invoker series are nice.
I have a couple of slx dc and my next reels I plan to get the curado dc.
I want a vanford in the worst way, im going to my local tackle shop this weekend to see if they have any and if not when they're expecting they're next order
Ordered myself the Dobyns Sierra 7’3” Heavy and paired it with a SLX 150 XT! Hope it’s nice! Got the reel in 8:2:1
Quick question guys! I preferred the dobyns sierra 7’3” heavy for flipping and frogs. Now I’m doubting myself because I originally was looking at the Zodias 7’5” Heavy! Which one do you think would be better for that?
Or I guess what rod do you recommend for the $200 price?
You might think you're cool. But you'll never be as cool as Tim wearing shades in the shade cool! Haha great vid guys!
The most expensive combo I’ve got right now is an Ark Reinforcer with a Lews SuperDuty. But I’m gonna get a Lews Pro Sp in the spring for my Ark.
Love these videos guys what would your recommendation be for a 400 to $500 combo for a good all-around crank bait fishing
All around... Zodias 7'6" Glass paired to a curado 200K OR Tranx 200.
@@tacticalbassin thanks
Thanks for the videos guys would love to have a dc reel but thats not going to happen but thank you again
one to add for around this price range is the Abu Garcia Revo Toro Best reel paired with the veritas toro rods
Garcia is all I use. Bass pro has the premiere $100 off this week. $250 reel for $150. Good deal
And I hope they add glass rods to the lineup because I have the older model Zodias 7'6 MH glass and it's light and fantastic for deep cranking
Thanks for chiming in, great feedback!!
Keeping in Tradition with Matt's a little bit more for $450. G Loomis e6x 845 crankbait rod paired with the Shimano curado mgl is a great combo.
Yes!!
How do you like the new curado mgl? I'm thinking of getting one, over something like a curado 200k or a slx dc
@@JoeWall157 I switched all my old curado 70's over to the new mgl they're way better
@@JoeWall157 if you want to get a DC reel I suggest getting a Shimano scorpion DC reel off eBay from Japan. They're way better than the curado DC
Have you ever used the Tatula? Looking for a good 6 speed bait caster.
Pre order? we have had the Vanford in Canada for awhile. Picked one up when we still had open water.
Thanks fam🙏🙏
Love the videos but I think you should do some close up shots or the rod and reels so we can actually see them.
Can't wait for the high end vid
If you're the Ivan Sanchez from swimbait universe. Thanks again for the baits! Didnt expect to see you in a comment section😂
@@tannerjordie2876 small world 😅
Hope all is well for you man, tried to message you to ask if you had any baits for sale but noticed your profile was nowhere to be found and you haven't been active on universe.
@@tannerjordie2876 yeah left fb a while back
Where would you guys place the Daiwa Tatula Elite SS (non-AGS) rods in comparison to the rods mentioned in your vid.
Do you guys have any thoughts on edge rods. Specifically the delta series
Thinking about getting a G. Loomis E6X 843C MBR, with a Curado 70 MGL. Anyone have experience with either of these? Looking for a nice all around baitcaster.
You guys should review the Curado 300
Haven't fished the new Levante yet, yes Shimano will be on the sale though not displayed as such. You have to complete your order to see the discount.
Haven't had good luck with 13 fishing gear. I will stick with my tried and true Shimano gear.
Hey could you guys please do something on the new curado 300 and maybe a comparison with the tranx
That's awesome! Where is the shop located?
@@tacticalbassin I know there are 2 in Houston, Texas
I’m just going to post the same comment every day
Luv these vids!!!
Can u do a review on the Vanford 2500?
Matt Allen how do you like the New Zodias and Vanford? Do you think a 7ft Medium Action with the Vanford 2500HG is a good setup for drop shotting 1/8 to 3/16 and small plastics on 1/4 to 3/8 jig heads and keitechs basically some finesse and all around setup
Have you used a scorpion dc?
Ah the good stuff!
Hey Tim and Matt, I was curious if you guys have use the Tatula LT spinning reel and/or Tatula spinning rod, and knowing your guy’s thoughts on that rod and reel combo
Not sure about the rod, but the reel is very good and very light.
Any interest in trying sixgill equipment? I'll tell yah, their stuff will rival anything in their price points, even above....and when you factor in the BOGOs they do, it's amazing. ... recently picked up their their 2nd highest rod (scythe, $260) and it out performs a lot of rods at that price or even above....give em a shot
