Wow, right before the guitar solo too. Spooky.
You can tell after all these years, Dave still loves to play this song.
Bro it’s timeless
Actually, its quiet the opposite. When kurt died he almost gave up music in general, the media kept requesting for him to play it and he kept denying it because it'd remind him of kurt. He finally decided to do it

Not quite.
"I wouldn't feel comfortable singing a song that Kurt sang. I feel perfectly at home playing those songs on the drums."
After 25 years of avoiding it…. Sure lol
@@RetroKingOGavoiding it publicly, sure, and it can be understandable why. However him, pat, and krist still get together and play as if they're still nirvana so... no, not really.
I remember he said in an interview I think that he stopped listening to nirvana because it's too sad for him. The fact that's he's playing the drums on stage with his eyes closed shows you he overcame that pain.
He learned through all the deaths that what was needed was community and so he plays
I’m just glad to see Dave enjoying himself playing nirvana songs again. For the last 25 years he’s avoided playing nirvana despite the millions of requests cause he just couldn’t deal with the emotion, he more than deserves to feel good about playing nirvana.
Considering Kurt was a blood sacrifice for Dave, I'm sure he's moved on
@@kidneystonermusic that's so woke! 😐
@@bryanmack7463 It doesn't matter how long its been, when you lose someone it always hurts.
I think that if David ain't missed Kurt, he wouldn't remember how to play that song.
He meets with his old band mates and they play Nirvana songs in private
Probably the first time playing with hearing Kurt again. You can see him smile as he comes in for the verse. Probably very emotional for him. I love Dave! This is amazing
Well I’m sure he’s jammed to the songs or even practiced a little bit, it has been 30 years. But this is the first live performance of him playing this song I’ve seen in a long time.
@@ronchee4121 They have actually played a handful of shows(one offs for special occasions) with Joan Jett, such as RNR hall of fame, and about 3 or 4 other occasions. The most recent being in 2018 as an encore for Foo Fighters. John from Deer Tick sang Sentless Apprentice and In Bloom, Joan Jett sang the rest. Look them up on UA-cam if you want something surreal. You’ll probably dig it
@@Endlessnameless803 thanks for the info! I’m glad these songs still get played!
Not the first..zzz
@@ronchee4121 Only on special occasions, but dude, you’re going to lose your mind when you see Joan singing with them. Pat is included, as he should be. To me, he is a member. No doubt in my mind he would have been officially if Kurt didn’t, you know.
Ps, nobody who reads this start with the Courtney shit, fuck off with that
I don't care who says otherwise, but playing any Nirvana song, on stage while hearing Kurt's voice sing the lyrics must still be a helluva emotional ride for #TheGrohl

Best times of their life.
It's because it's a fucking genius line xD I'm worst in what I do best
Then we can't be in Dave's heart but he always loved this part of kurt lyrics xD
Kurt and Krist...people always forget Krist Novoselic
@@garrettrains3916 yeah but krist didnt shoot himself
This is absolutely beautiful. The way he’s playing with his eyes closed, probably picturing being back on that stage with the legend himself… I wish I could’ve met him.
I got to meet I'm in the big day out in 2000 or 99 I can't remember, think I smoked a bit lol. Was at a t shirt stand, was talking to a beautiful t shirt sales girl, came over, had a chat, few others realised who he was, and made a stage left and high tailed it. But he has a very gentle demeanour and quite switched on, good sort of a guy.
Grohl is the legend.
He said in his new book that every time he sits behind a drum kit he sees Kurt in front of him
When his eyes closed... he come back again 27 years ago...playing this music with Kurt & Novoselic
Hate this guy
This is actually huge to see after hearing him say how much music was ruined for him after Kurt died. He couldn't bring himself to play it. I never thought I'd see current day Dave playing Nirvana again.
Are you kidding me? He's rode his Nirvana fame since 95, literally has been playing Nirvana shit since their rnr hall of fame induction in I think 2010, does reunions of Nirvana, and always speaks in interviews about his time in Nirvana anytime someone isn't speaking about his boring buttrock band. He seems to smile a little when Kurt starts singing, notably in the second verse. I can only imagine that for a brief moment while losing himself in the song, probably felt like he was back in 1991 next to Kurt and Krist rocking out a Nirvana show
I think that’s why his eyes were closed. If his eyes were open, Kurt wouldn’t be standing in front of him… his voice and guitar only through the speaker.

The StoryTeller sent me here! Gosh this performance was incredible! The drums have always been something that I have felt rather than seen. The drum set is usually tucked towards the back of the stage, but Dave plays his heart out, and I had no idea how physically demanding and complicated it is! Well said brother.
I would seriously consider Dave taking over on drums for Foo Fighters, he's still got it, Singer dies when he's drummer, Drummer dies when he's singer, that's some weird symmetry, He should at least play drums on the next album if not live, I wouldn't be surprised if Foo Fighters call it a day entirely, they were tight a.f, Rolling Stones kept going after Charlie and hopefully Foo Fighters do also, whatever happens we have a sh!t ton of music anyway.

@ghost mall I agree with Patrick. It is one of the easy ones to play. Doesn’t mean I am going to post but it really isn’t a difficult beat or fills. You could learn it in an hour.
@@PMurray2694 I disagree. It's not easy. Yes, technically the beat is simple enough but the way Dave played it was genius. It's actually slightly out of time. He drags the first beat of the bar and then kind of speeds up the rest. It gives the song real punch. Whenever you hear other people cover the song it just doesn't sound right. It's very hard to play a wonky beat with that level of consistency (very similar to Ringo in fact).

Is this the only time he played drums along to?! Pretty fucking INCREDIBLE seeing him play along to Nirvana!!
not the first time
Its took him a long time to play the drums to a full nirvana song. He wont do it in concert though.
Nirvana reunited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, have played 3 other times live. Look up Nirvana Reunion Brooklyn.
He won't do it in concert with the Foo Fighters. All they have done is teasers and left it at that. Foo fans would love to hear this at their concerts.
@@gottalight3574 autocorrect. I wrote “tune” but it got corrected to time.
Our little group has always been and always will until the end.
Thing is… music lives forever. Thanks Nirvana.
thank you for posting.. and much respect to Dave Grohl
Best thing I've seen ever on you tube ..thank you Dave
This is just another reason in a long line of reasons why I absolutely love Dave Grohl.
Waited 27 years to see Dave do this.
As fucking epic as it was all those years ago.
Fucking yeahhhhh!!!!!
Gets better with each viewing.
You'd really have to have the chance to analyze Dave's brain patterns during this performance. We would probably be shifted back in time during the recording of Nevermind or one of Nirvana's live shows. I really think Dave does feel he's being transported in time, being 23 again.
Or imagining listening to creeping death by Metallica instead. They all hated this song. Lol
@@johnbraucher1499 Really? That is news to me!
He'll always be 23 during the whole album, just like Kurt will never die as long as we can hear him. Art has a way of transcendence about it, how you cement yourself for eternity, irrespective of time
I love the look on his face pure joy. I think whenever he plays a nirvana song it takes him back to a different time.
Makes me sad… and brings back memories of the 90’s. Great times…
