Glock 23 Gen 3 .40 Caliber Unboxing and Overview

The Glock 23 is a mid-size Glock frame .40 caliber pistol. It is not the most recent revision (Gen 4 ), however the two have only a few minor differences. The Gen 3 doesn't have the dual spring recoil, no rough grip, no replaceable backstraps, and comes with 2 magazines instead of 3.

Always take the mag out *then* check the chamber!!
Had there been a round in the mag to start, when you checked the (empty)chamber and let the slide go back it would have then chambered the round and your gun would be hot. Then when you checked the mag it would be empty but at that point the round would be in the chamber already.
Order is important. Remove the mag then check the chamber IN THAT ORDER.
This is important because the factory does test fire the gun before sending it to you. In theory there could be a single round in the mag when they send it to you. Unlikely af, but possible.

No OEM dual spring will not sit correctly in GEN3.

I'd say so. The newer gens have more textured grip and changeable backstrap but that's about it. So it's all about preference at that point
