Great video Chris. I found you originally looking at fluid sims. This was very cool. My challenge is emulating Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) sims for STEM science-type videos. Would love seeing a tutorial on how to demonstrate airflow, high and low pressure interactions, etc., with propellers, wings, helicopter rotors, and rocket shapes. I know (or think) Blender can't do accurate CFD in a flight test sense, but for demonstration purposes perhaps there is a workflow that can get me close? Model profile view wind tunnel-like samples would also be welcome. Anyway, as I said, great stuff and thanks for producing it.
Thought I'm late to the party, I fully enjoyed this tutorial, and it gets me very interested in looking into CG Cookie's classes. You didn't go "These are the things I figured out so I'll just go with these settings. If you are trying this yourself just play around with them until you get what you like." You showed use a safe and easy way to test things out for using what we learned here on other things and projects which should be the point of things like this.
Something minor but worth noting is that the red text in the bottom left is wildly compressed, and it's hard to see certain differences (e.g. S vs. 5). One possible solution to this is to change the color of the text in the bottom left to green. Humans are less sensitive to red and blue than green, and so video codecs use fewer bits for those color channels. Some codecs even go so far as to block pixels together to reduce the data required to represent the red color channel. As such, red text becomes blocky and hard to read, especially when video resolution and/or bit rate is reduced.
do we need to bake before animating? Im curious as I added a couple more frames outside of the bake start-end after I played the animation (basically I want to extend the last melting bit) and I just want to animate the remainder without freeing all and then rebaking the entire thing again.
Troubleshooting Bake All: Hi @CGCookie- I've followed this step by step. When I get to 12:10 and I hit 'Bake All,' my domain does nothing. It's supposed to transform into those two ovals, but it does nothing. Every other setting is identical to yours. Anyone else having this problem? I'm happy to share my file if there is a place that I can upload it. Thank you!
great video. In my case I just want to make the object mold to a base. Let the object melt and only one frame will be saved, without necessarily animating the scene. How do I get just one frame melted?
Is it common that all/most of the actual settings are on the domain object? Instinctually, I'd want to set things on my fluid object (in this case the text). I'm only familiar with Blender so I don't know if that's how all 3d software works, or if that's simply a Blender "oddity." Nice tutorial though! Thank you!
OK as soon as I Clicked "Bake All" (12:02) my domain box did not disappear, I'm using updated Blender Unless this is specifically for 3.2.2 this tutorial has some bugs for 3.3.0_LTS.
@@TrillArtTV so I tried multiple times on my PC with my 3090, resolution 300 took 42 seconds the domain did not disappear, but I did try on my 1060 laptop GTX and on Resolution 32 the domain disappeared, then I then I increased it to 64 in the domain did not disappear, then when I tried 128 blender crashed, guess this tutorial was not meant for me😥
I had the same issue as @Trill Art and @Daemon Dickens. I had to crank up my "Resolutions Divisions" to above 72 to get any result on 3.3.0 LTS. I'm running a 3090.
Does the density of the mesh text have any influence on the fluid creation? I noticed the low density sim seemed to concentrate on the two highest-density letters. As always great stuff.
When I try to do with with a cylinder shaped object, the mesh will melt... but the cylinder object remains visible.. almost like its two separate objects. Do you have any idea how I could fix this?
Isn't there any way to make it a little more "thick" instead of being so liquid-like? Also red over gray is horrible to the eyes... might as well not use the Screencast at all.
Whenever I go to Bake the domain its still visible and the mesh doesn't take any of the particles. Any idea on why this might be happening? Followed the directions above word for word.
Just wanted to throw out a product idea for you guys. Well, a few actually. Would like "in-app" purchases, or similar - buy some credit and use, per individual item, especially procedural shaders. So, basically, a plugin, that lets you view the material render (perhaps cube and sphere renders), and lets you download it. Upon download, it takes points from your account that you previously purchased. Something like the adobe substance plugin, but all blender where you can actually edit the nodes. It looks like (from a demo) that (substance in blender) it always baked textures - not 100% sure tho. I wasn't even able to download their plugin (not sure how dedicated they are to it) - license "agree" button was disabled (could be any number of reasons, but I wasn't able to use it and though, while nice, you don't exactly get to change theirs other than params. If done in blender, we can go in, add nodes as needed, etc. Material packs are nice, but often don't want to have to "manage and remember" all of them, rather just search right in blender, find it, customize it, forget about it. So that's the first one. Second one is basically "masking related nodes" - so like some predefined shapes (stars, circles, pentagons, whatever). Perhaps material node groups, and means to combine in interesting ways relatively easily. Some time related masks (vertical swipe, horizontal swipe, circle out, circle in), which would certainly be useful in compositor also (a third area with big opportunity for custom nodes or grouped nodes with masking or other functionality.
Im getting some blue artefacts on high resolution simulation , using blender 3.3 , any ideas how to get rid of them ? Im not getting any at 200resolution tho, thanks in advance
I don't know if we had the same problem, but I had blue halos around my particles. I fixed it by going to the Particle tab, click on the Liquid particles and choose "None" for the Render As option. See if that works for you.
I'm working on this, and I'm using a phrase, instead of the word "melt". My issue is that when I bake, I get a bunch of blue (I guess I'd call them artifacts) sticking out of the edges of the letters. Any suggestions? Also, at the end you say you're going to "run the sim/run the render"...but how do you do that?
PLease be more descriptive, you you said press I and set a key frame i almost quit after 10 minutes of it not working, didnt know you had to hover the viscosity.
Hi! I really got lost at min 15:14, when you put the last KeyFrame, you play Start for the animation, I did everything you did and my animation didnt work, like, the cube stays there doing nothing, did you Baked All and then played Start? Or What? Because rly i cant continue :(
JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU, THAT YOU MISSED TO SAY WE NEED TO BAKE ALL, TO ALWAYS SEE OUR SIMULATION, its a little detail that can save lot of users frustration and confusion. Either way thanks
Is he intentionally mispronouncing cache so people will comment? Also he needs to get his mic off the desk or get it an isolation stand. The constant clanking on the keyboard is so loud in the recording. For everyone having problems with new blender, You have to scale the objects up larger than he's doing. It wasn't working for me until I did that. Make your text really large.
the information provided here is great for adding it to other things you have learned. this is a quality tut for free. they could have easily just put it behind a paywall.

QUESTION. my text is melting but it has another text "MELT" that is formed and color white.
I love this. Not just "use these settings" but rather actually TEACHING how to get settings since every render will be unique
THIS, it frustrates me when tutorials just tell you to use something that you can't find or get to
@@wulftea it's even more the case when blender gets a new version and things change.
@cg_cookie I agree! Very helpful indeed! just a heads up, "Cache" is pronounced "CASH" guys and gals. it's searchable online as well. 😉

You have to have the objects really large. Triple the size of everything then apply transforms.

just bad tuto..
they solved it here

Apply scale to all the objects then try baking (on a lower setting) for at least 250 frames, my liquid did go till frame 50 idk why
