looking great. I observed a lot of flowers and fruit set this year on my avocados as well. The rain this year must have helped
Should be an EPIC one this year for all of us...Thanks for watching!
Good stuff, looking good 👍🏽. The Carmen definitely flowered earlier here and heavily now. No more buying avocados for you. 🥑
Let me know if you want some avocado...
I have about seven trees that have fruit on them; the best is a Sharwil that I grafted in the spring of ‘21. I also have about 20 fruit set on my green gold for the first time! There’s at least one fruit on my older Yamagata tree as well but that is still flowering.
I hope to at least get one on my green gold, excited to try it. Congrats, it's a good feeling to know that you got fruit from something you grafted.
We're going to Maui again this year, can't wait.
Thanks for the video REM. Im always interested in seeing how the different varieties react with this crazy cali weather. My gwen is also flowering heavily and dropped more leaves than last year. Picked up a sharwil that also is flowering pretty hard but neither have set fruit
We should get some decent fruit set this year with all the rain we got this year. Hopefully it wont be too hot of a summer. Thanks for being a part of this fun journey to grow avocados...
Great video REM, looks like 2024 is going to be a great year! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Johnny, we appreciate all that you do to educate the avocado backyard community.
@@AvocadoTalk lol... I am definitely not an expert, learning as I go. I am really impressed with your care and attention to your avocado trees. Your Avocado trees always look amazing. Thanks for sharing REM, we really appreciate your videos!
Looks awesome, be lots of fruit next year.
Hi Derek I'm waiting to see if you get fruit out of your seedling and get a chance to name it...🤞😎
@@AvocadoTalk haha some day, be a while I think.
@@Derek_Wong You never know, I have a Reed seedling also that will probably take a long time.
Everything is looking great! My parents in fallbrook have the same problem with their mexicola grande. It flowers but only keeps two or three avocados. Also, their tree is super healthy and larger than yours. Don't know why it keeps dropping the fruit.
Exactly, that's one of the reasons I'm thinking of top working it to something else. Fruit with thin skin and not really my favorite. I like the idea that Mexicola can help prevent mites because of the leaves...
Costco has a deal right now $300 for fridges with many pull out trays and no freezer component. I’m picking up 2 for extra 🥑 storage
Went to check it out yesterday, they really didn't have it at my Costco. I think I saw your brother there 😄 shopping away
@@AvocadoTalk I went back and you know the damn things are freezers not fridges!
@@AvocadoTalk he’s up at my place right now and told me he was running though Costco yesterday
Your Jan Boyce looks amazing and so upright. I have a 5 gal that should fit in a corner of my backyard👍
Hi Andy, if you are around the area and need some scions, let me know.
I like how my JB is compact and not so wide, would probably make a good screen if I had a bunch lined up.
I'm getting similar epic flowering on all my trees. The best set is on Lamb Hass. GEM is doing fairly well too but dropped most of its leaves and it will be a while before tree will look pretty as yours. The worst performer so far is Reed which might be fighting a root root. Will have to spray soon with fungicide Reliant.
That's great...A little odd, Reeds are usually tough. Hopefully you get a lot of fruit 🥑 this year.
My seedling has lots of flowers, but no bees to pollinate, I tried the honey water trick and even manual pollinating, nothing so far
Takes a little time, the fact that you got flowers on a seedling is a great start. Bees and pollinators will eventually find it. Hopefully you get some fruit. If it's good, you can name it.
Forgot to mention that I got fruit for the first time on my Sir Prize also.
Funny, I seem to have the same weeds up here in Anaheim 😂. How tall do you think your Bacon is. That Esther looks very impressive holding a lot of fruit. Have you tasted those yet? I think I have about 3 growing in pots. I think I’ve decided to plant a Lamb Hass in my small front yard. And graft some type of “B” variety onto it. Keep us posted about the various varieties you have - you have quite a few. Thanks.
The Esther is good, I like the flavor, a mix of Reed and Hass tasting. It is very productive and small so I think it would be good for someone who has a smaller yard and just want avocados.
Congratulations on the Oaklando!
Not out of the woods yet, summer is coming. Thanks again!
Thanks for the update. It's good to see how well some of your tree are doing. You mentioned you're slowly picking your Hass. Do you wait until they turn black? (Will they turn black? ) Or do you pick them when they're dark green? I've got three fruit that look perfect size, but I'm afraid to pick one. They're not black yet. I'm in Northern California.
Hi Tom, when they're ready you can pick them when they're still all green, for me I can't eat all of them all at once, so I leave them on the tree to extend a season . some will start to get a little black blush, especially the ones that are exposed to some sunlight. This year for me the Hass avocado was ready earlier because last year the flower set came in earlier and it all comes down to hang time on your tree. So if your tree has avocados that started fruiting earlier, it's possible that even at this point they may be ready in Northern California. If you have the time and patience, it's okay to wait. Something to note earlier in the season when you harvest hass they take a little longer to ripen on the counter and later in the season they ripen relatively quickly on the counter. Congrats on the fruit! It's fun to grow avocados and thanks for watching
Thanks! I may just pick one - so worried a squirrel is going to nab it!
@@tpistor should ripen just fine, enjoy!
Similar results in my yard. Your trees just look better 😂
I'll take fruit production over looking good 😊... Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the video. In your experience, what’s the most compact Avacado with the most yield? Thank you
Gwen and Esther are both smaller trees and very productive. GEM also...plus the bonus is the fruit taste really good. Thanks for watching!
Did you spray with honey water or place any bee loving plants in the nearby vicinity?
Not really..I didn't do anything this year, didn't even do the special flower promoting fertilizer. Should be a good year for all of us.
Did you say you are in Sutter, CA or southern CA? Thanks.
Southern California...
I have a 4 year old tree from seed...its in a 7 gallon container. It has not flowered. Is it too late to dose it with a fruiting formula or should i wait til next year?
Yeah might be late. You may want to try to girdle in late October to induce flowering to see if you get good tasting fruit. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
You thinks it’s because of all the rain we got this year?
I think so, some of my avocados had a double flowering, light first and heavy second flowering. Should be a great year for all of us.
Also mild winter. In Bay Area south San Jose where I live there were no nights under 40
How is your Gem doing?
I have 4 that are all setting a lot of fruit this year. Still small so I'm not going to let it hold a lot of fruit. I'm glad I got them, hopefully you have them too.
Is the ester a foppy pattern of grower like a sir prize ?
A little floppy, also because a lot of heavy larger fruit. Before it had fruit, it did grow nice and straight. It's definitely productive...
@@AvocadoTalk ok I see perhaps as the tree get bigger with thicker limbs than maybe can handle weight of fruit better, how is your bay giant grafts did they take ?
@@RareAvoTrees 1 for 3 on the bay giant. The other 2 are still green so a chance it might take. All 3 Oaklando took. I just got Second Red grafts going 🤞.
@@AvocadoTalk Excellent your getting a nice wide variety of growing some uncommon types.
How’s Nimlioh doing?
It is doing OK, I need to get it into the ground soon.
