The line "I think he took care of us just fine" Destroys me. You worry about the quality of life you provide for your child. Turns out your very presence is the world to them.
It's the sheer simplicity that makes this scene so profoundly beautiful....just 2 characters somehow finding common ground to bond over in spite of their obvious differences and the difficulties they have endured......the music towards the end is more than enough to tug at the heart strings also.... Just a shame, cinema has become a lost art.
This scene is one of the most sublimely sad and precious I've ever seen. BBT truly did an amazing job directing and starring in this film. GREAT movie.
@@NickThorbjørnsen2207 why can't morons like you just give actors the credit they deserve? They are good at what they do, not everything is "improvised"
This movie doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s a real gem when you’re grown and understand the intricacies of life. We’re all in a web and share common ground whether we see it or not. Billy Bob Thornton was ahead of his time on this one.
That little boy grew up to drive cars in Tokyo, drifting all over. Real talk though me and him went to the same school in in Moulton Alabama we had a few classes together. We hung out alot during and after school. Hell he dated my cousin for a few years before he hit it big.
Billy Bob is from Arkansas and Lucas is from Alabama so those southern accents come naturally, not sure where Walter is from, but he is a fantastic actor.
@kyzor-sosay6087 Walton Goggins was born in the Birmingham Alabama area, Mountain Brook or Homewood I think, then moved to Georgia at a pretty young age.
Seen this movie so many times. And every time scenes like this one hurt my soul. The complexity of being so mentally deficient and murderous at one point, yet so calm, polite, caring and philosophically deep at the core.
Amazing performances from a strong cast. I appreciate the protective bond these two have throughout the movie, best pals. Great film with some powerful meaning.
There is all kinds of people that say they cry at various points of movies. Always found that odd because I never have. However, Frank talking about his Daddy and his very hard young life, made my eyes water a little. Didn't cry, but it was more moving than I thought.
I own a copy of this. I watch it every two years just to remind myself that Hollywood CAN make great movies every once in a while in spite of their proclivity to keep pushing out mindless crap.
Sling Blad is one of my top two favorite movies. It was mezmerizing to me. NOTE: I don't know why you bother with subtitles if you're not going to do them right! Many, many mistakes.
There's a lot of messages in this movie, but the most underrated message is how the American worker has been left behind for a very long time. Frank's dad sadly is a story that a lot of Americans have heard and been through personally.
@@varowan1 is one of those movies that I accidently came across, like Secondhand Lions for instance, that I scratched my head and wondered how did I possibly not know of this movie before? Is a relatively unknown gem. Is on HBO Max right now. I am contemplating a 3rd viewing.
this clip just about did me in. My son is 13 and his dad took his life 7 years ago. There wasn't a note, but he did talk a whole lot about SS Survivors Benefits being better for us that what he could do on this earth. He was wrong. Dead ass wrong
Current year is so awful...this scene is so lovely, but it just makes me think, remember the days when a grown man could just be a friend to a boy and not be accused of being a molester? Or have his mother sue the man for child support?.... Liberals like to act like we're so much better off these days and how far we've come but all I see is degeneracy and how much we've lost in the name of progress. We gained equal rights, and that's wonderful, but did we have to give up our souls, dignity, and decency to get that?
Both parties have long lost there way from the Reagan days and balanced budget with Clinton days. Not sure what future there is for either party. Need a third party option. I think technology and the demise of the nuclear family is the main reason for overkill you are referring to. Lots of ego.
No bad idea life in rural Arkansas is horrible. Notice there are no black people in the film. It's one of the most racist violent places in America. I lived there my husband was from there, not far from where this was filmed. It's a horrible depressing almost third world poor place. People are super sweet at first to your face, but the most 2 faced backwards back stabbing dishonest people you can ever meet. There nothing there worth seeing
the kid here, i remember seeing in lots of "feelgood" 90ś drama movies and he was always named "Caleb" whatever happened to him?? stopped acting ?? i actually think he was in like the first fast and furios movie too ?? ? named Caleb there to ?? Lol
He's still acting. He was 'Caleb Temple' in the TV Series American Gothic and also 'Connor' in some movie with a horse called Flash. He was in one of the NCIS shows - the New Orleans one for a while - not sure if he still is, it's not something I watch.

mmmmhmmm
That boy lives inside his own heart. That's an awful big place to live in.
he has hairy arms.
Maybe the best line in movie history
That boy was a terrific actor.
This movie slays me.
Lucas Black has gone on to be a successful actor as an adult. This movie was only his second role and he acted so natural, like a kid really is!
Don't you say nothin about that boy!
He had a lot of lines in that scene. I don't know how any kid could pull it off.
This sobering portrayal is so much like many children out there living with abuse and they are so powerless in that situation!
This movie is a masterpiece and well worth the full watch.
I'll never forget the first time that I saw it, it just blew me away.....
Same here. Still stands as one of the best films ever made imo.

I think too many good people die. So very true. This movie is a rare one. Movies this great don't come around anymore.
You don’t see anything these days that comes close to Sling Blade
@@brianmeen2158 I have to agree.
Movies like this don’t come around often. I’d want it again and again.
Great movie, great acting. Should have won all the Oscars!
Lucas Black had a lot of lines to remember for this scene.
Yeah.....thats actually what actors do.....remember lines

Lucas and Billy Bob have the most authentic southern accents in Hollywood. Well, and Walton Goggins.
Billy Bob is from Arkansas and Lucas is from Alabama so those southern accents come naturally, not sure where Walter is from, but he is a fantastic actor.

I love the simplicity of this movie. He reminds me when I was little. I miss it so much.
Its almost criminal this show is not available for us to watch.
The foreshadowing of this scene is so powerful and crucial to the storyline.
It’s crazy how that kid looks and sounds the exact same just older now
Lesson of the day: If you go with men instead of women, it makes you not able to fight too good lol
I mean it is true in 9 out of 10 situations
It's so terrible how some men struggle and come to see their family as a burden, instead of a refuge.

Best, most underrated movie ever
So, is it possible to write a better script than this? What a unique and touching movie. Killer acting - literally and figuratively.
