That’s actually their daily recommendation for “added sugar”. The amount of total sugar you eat doesn’t technically matter, if it falls in line with your total carbohydrate recommendation, but ideally, the added sugars should be as limited as possible, with complex carbs and natural sugars being the vast majority of your carb intake.
@@mariemunzar6474 see but that's where they get people like me I'll be asking for a milkshake 3 timez a week. At some point it's the consumers job to see videos like this and contemplate life
The problem is who would agree to the limits set. One organization recommends a daily limit of 25G, another org recommends a limit of 50G, I personally recommend a daily limit of 100G. All of us are reading the same research documents and accessing acceptable risk. Yes there is the least risk at 0G but risk skyrockets beyond 100G.
The limit of intake is all predicated on how much activity the person is participating in. The more robust your activities such as workouts hiking cycling swimming running etc would allow for more intake of food beverage sugar etc. less activity would signal to the person that they are not entitled to wine or cheese and crackers or any dessert. Pretty basic common sense.
While I think maybe some regulation would be in order I disagree with the "our country" framing, there's not some conspiracy against the populus. This is a buisness trying to make money, they're gonna sell what people buy, there's obviously demand for something as obscenely obesogenic and diabetes inducing as this. The question is why are people ignorant or they simply don't care? My guess is some of both and ignorance is all you can fix.

Do your homework, look up glycemic index. It'll tell you which foods contain sugar AND how fast that sugar is absorbed. The worst are syrups, juices and soda.
Make your own flavored coffee at home. Just as good and you control the sugar and/or sweetener. Have been doing this all my life. And it saves you money too.
It's easy to talk about sugar content, but one major factor that many (mostly Americans) don't realize is how numb our taste buds become after decades of consuming high sugar content. Our sensory to sweet becomes the norm, so we don't even notice it anymore. After traveling in recent years (thank you covid & remote work) I've learned to "retrain" my taste buds to identify when something is too sweet. Example, those McDonald's caramel frappes that I used to buy daily in the mornings, now I can't even handle a sip anymore because it literally feels like I'm choking on sugar.
Me when I tried the mcshamrock shake; I tasted nothing but processed sugar. I try not to let things go to waste, but I had to throw it away, I felt like each sip was actually ticking away at my life span
If someone doesn’t eat out often, they will find this food too sweet in general. People really should stick to cooking their own food/making their own coffee.
@@melissaherrera940 absolutely. I live in a country where I have access to lots of cheap veggies and meats and prefer to cook for my family. Finally I found someone else who sees this. My mother who's a traditional doctor has been saying this for so long and how people wonder how and why they get all of these illnesses, only for the doctors to give them pills to put off the issue instead of telling them to look at their diets. Those small issues you take medicine for is probably your body warning you before something bigger happens that's hard to reverse. Our bodies on the daily get a lot more than required and it's making them work overtime to throw it all off until our organs start breaking down. If our bodies weren't so resilient we'd all drop dead a lot quicker than we already do.

I used to work at a dunkin and I swear i overheard the manager once tell the assistant manager “if they ask for 2 servings of sugar and 2 of creamer, give em 2 1/2, tastes better”. Not only that, but Dunkin would also require the manager to profit a certain margin, and maintain speediness in the drive through. To bypass those requirements, our manager would smack a sensor right below the outside of the drive through window if the order was taking too long to make to trick it into thinking the car had already left giving us a better drive through time. Not to mention, to help with profits, they would undercut all of our hours to avoid mandatory wage raises to force us to quit to hire new applicants, starting them at minimum wage of course. Left over doughnuts? We were allowed to take the leftovers one day out of a week, the rest were not donated or anything they were just tossed in the trash Oh and if we didn’t quit because if the hour cuts, simple solution they’d just fire us over the slightest inconvenience. Dunkin was totally okay with this by the way. Issued a complaint about everything I mentioned, never heard back from Dunkin.
As a former Dunkin worker, this is 100% correct. It was always about speed. We didn't get breaks. I was 16. I was even told to find my own coverage when I couldn't work. At 16.

Agreed. I’m 55 and I’ve been drinking black coffee with no sugar since I’m 17. I like a piece of cake as much as the next guy. But I’ll only eat it infrequently as a treat. I stopped drinking soda at least 20 years ago and stick with unsweetened ice tea or seltzers. I’m not on medications, not obese, and just passed my physical with no big issues. What you put in your body definitely makes all the difference in the world.

Good for you! I stopped with the creamer in my coffee a few years ago and I’m never looking back. Always wondered why I felt groggy throughout the day and it took me far too long to realize I wasn’t addicted to the caffeine, but the sugar in the creamer I HAD to have in it. Just black coffee, no pop, and only seltzer water for when I have that carbonation craving.
Health is wealth... like you I enjoy the odd tasty treat, but no pop, no sugar, I'll use honey.. I no longer eat carbs and I feel great..

There HAS to be a legal limit to how much added sugar is allowed in products. This is absurd!

Dunkin: Go ahead
@@jamgrams3244 glad I'm not the only one! I once described it as "sugar burning my tongue" and people thought I was crazy

In the uk we limited the amount of sugar you can put in soda and it turns out it doesn’t taste any different, there’s a sweetness threshold that, once you’re at it you can’t taste the extra sugar. And the more sugar that is present the health markers keep nosediving. For reference my friend told me this and he’s a consultant endocrinologist.

We were allowed to take the leftovers one day out of a week, the rest were not donated or anything they were just tossed in the trash
