The reason for all of this is simple: Every test resulted in the bravest subjects being sent running in extreme fear. This fear isn't natural - the visage itself likely inflicts it and thus the fear is more intense than even in the most stressful url situations. The second exploration ended with the test subject being so traumatized that no medication has had any effect of the catatonic state that he's still in to this day.

I do agree that all of his videos have that debriefing feel to it, but I'd say it's closer to being a training video for low clearance SCP foundation workers, since D-Class are often chucked at anomalies with no explanation whatsoever.
That or a rookie member of an MTF receiving a briefing as part of the basic training. I imagine that all MTF members have to have a basic understanding of various types of skips they could encounter regardless of unit specialization.
excellent coverage of the classics, as usual. all i have to say about this one is....back when the dinosaurs roamed and i was a wee college student, there was a building on campus that was infamous for its cursed fourth floor - every time it was completed something would happen to destroy it. tornado, fire, whatever...but always only the fourth floor. for whatever reason the theatre department kept some stuff up there in storage and you had to climb a creepy staircase to get there and, you know what, i'm very glad i hadn't seen anything about this SCP back then. this kind of anomaly WOULD be on a college campus....
@nocna mara They could have always sent a team of D-Class. Even trained D-Class. Sending in one person at a time will only end in the same result. The thing clearly hates light so, if you send a team of D-Class they could possibly light up the whole thing and maybe make it all the way down to the base of the stairs without incident and perhaps do reconnaissance on whether that's a pocket dimension of some kind or dimensional loop of some kind like the Infinite Ikea. They could send drones too. So much potential wasted
Of all the SCPs this is the one I fear. It strikes at everything that worked on my extremely active imagination as a child. I used to actually see things in the semi-dark, full on hallucinations.

I mean there are Scps that can destroy the world and yet this one is more scary. Probably due to the fear of the unknown.

@@JuryRigged Yeah that sounds spooky. I also have a bit of claustrophobic tendencies. Won't say I can't handle small spaces, but in certain settings I can barely handle it. We don't have basements in our country but from what I've seen in movies and Google (had to check what a crawl space is) it's not a place I want to be. I know boiler rooms have a stigma. People when they where young didn't like it.
You know, one of the tests I kept proposing for a while, until that memo...not saying more, was that we should send a D-Class in with a high definition camera, equipped with a dimmer lens, as well as a few flash bangs. This place eats light, sure, but we've proven it takes time, and a sudden influx does have a noticeable effect on how much it eats at one time. We might even be able to find a ground state. Of course, this kept getting denied because it might cause damage to the skip or the personnel(Ha, Command worried about D-Class? Since when?). I think it's because they know something they're not telling us about the dash 1 in this case. Still, it's their secret to keep, I suppose.

Being demoted to D-Class has to be the worst assignment in SCP - They KNOW the fucked up shit that happens to D - Class. At least all the others are mostly ignorant of what will happen to them.

This is the main reason why it occurs at random locations. If you fail to observe this such of an obvious lore you will be declassified as D-Class personnel immediately.

They should send 4 D-Class together. All with light armour a melee weapon and team combat & formation training. Plus training in controlling fear facing anomalies. Personnel are loosely tethered to protect from falling. Also what if a test subject/ s decided to sneak down in the dark, no lights.

Followed by draining the campus swimming pool via an powerful industrial pump with 100 litres of detergent poured down as well. If only you could see the look on 087-1 when it walk up to inspect the noise. only to encounter enough golf balls to fill 3 houses being pushed along by a huge torrent of soapy water 40+ floors in length spiraling down. This particular SCP fascinates me to no end. There appears to be some sort of creature in there that is very dangerous, but the creature has done nothing. Every D class that has entered, has injured themselves trying to get away from a manifested head. I would really like to see one of the in MTF teams, like maybe the mole rats or somebody who's used to dealing with incorporeal manifestations. I think that would help to complete this file. It just seems like we're missing something big in there.
Yeah, and in the second case, it even could be indicated to have revived the individual who had fallen with the express purpose of getting it to leave the stairwell. The thing I like about this particular story is that there is a mystery and enough being teased to really get into, but never giving enough to lose the mystery.
087 consumes whatever enter it's domain, whether electronic or organic. That's why all the equipments from previous expeditions vanished and on the 3rd one, knowing how it causes fear, it went behind the woman to make her go down instead of allowing her to ascend. She and the 4th never made it out. It's also highly possible that many curious students went down the stairs before it was discovered by the Foundation and contained.
Notice how polite the doc is to people who must be death row criminals essentially doomed. THIS is how things are done. They will die anyway but your being polite relaxes them.
If i will be O5 i will send member of MTF tau-6 "Samsara" they have life support right? So they will be able to go very down. If they will see SCP 087-1 they will start firing. I think it will help lol. But mystery is what happened on exploration IV.. Did it reached end? Did next exploration found class-D of exploration III alive? What must happened here to make O5 delete it?
i was once inside a demon once and it blocked light like that... I suspect this is more than just some stairwell or story in somebody mind. This is a legit fear.

imagine a type green child, with powers to change reality but no control over them, one day he wanders off his mother maybe a teacher in the university, maybe a stundent, and he for some reason, ends up going down a stairwell and ends up thinking that the stairs are infinite, so they turn infinite, he keeps going and eventually, night comes, the university closes for the day, and light goes off, then he probably an infant, enters a panic, he has no strenght left, he is hungry, he its scared focusing on the darknes, so his realty changes and becomes darkness, he thinks hes doomed and nobody can reach him, so it happens, fueled by his strong emotions of fear, his powers trap him in an endless stairwell that or maybe some kind of entity like the one below the tunnels in antarctica waiting for his revenge maybe his revenge its completed and the one that killed this child dont reinacarnate ?

I always hated this SCP. Send in a small team of Mole rats or some MTF that doesn't freak out at the first sight of a monster and let them check it out. The face doesn't seem super hostile. And you'd think the research team would want to know more, especially if it is turning aggressive. That's standard, send in the D's then the Pros. But they never did that, just pad the door and pretend it doesn't exist, that's a "great idea". I get its an earlier SCP but seriously there is no reason not to have sent an MTF.
So... SCP will use D-class people in this, where radio transmission can be done no matter the depth, but will not use something immune to psychological attack like a Rover (ground moving drone) of sorts? Seems kind of short-sighted for a foundation with access to a LOT of money and a LOT of technology.
Yep. If you're precise enough about it you'd have a good way to test if coriolis effects apply within the stairwell. If they don't, an aerodynamically appropriate object should fall without ever contacting the rails no matter how far the stairs go down. Wonder how well SCP 087-1 would like having a few tons of super-bouncy-balls poured down its steps? :) Of course you could also rig a winch to lower or raise things (and people) the same way, albeit with some risk of getting caught on a railing. Good way to lower supplies to a really extended expedition, or raise (say) a crying child to the surface without having to carry her. Pretty sure we have an infinite ball of unbreakable string somewhere in the Safe storage we could use for the job.

I have such mixed feelings about this one. The inexplicable never ending stairwell is interesting and creepy in itself. Then it's like the author didn't know how to escalate or end it so they just went "idk then a spoopy appears and says Boo!"
what about 2 D-class personnel sent in there with flashlights strapped into jackets or whatnot and confirm that the face isn´t blocking either the stairs up or down, also trying to speak to the face or shoot it to verify if the face is the one causing it or something trying to scare people out of the SCP (with mixed results I´ll admit)
Need an over powered drone for exploration and see how long till the high tech signal lasts. And what would happen if u dropped a heavy object down the middle chute..... and designed it so aur resistance is minimal.. needs a plutonium power source and a broadcast signal thats able to pass through solid rock.. scp can be used as a tool to dispose of water to prevent sea level rise as the ice caps melt
This one always confuses me. They could send in drones, fill the stairwell with a team of people with lights, or just brick up the top of the stairwell and turn it into a actual room and forget the rest exists. He'll, they could drop high explosives into it and destroy the stairwell completely.

We don't have basements in our country but from what I've seen in movies and Google (had to check what a crawl space is) it's not a place I want to be.

You know, one of the tests I kept proposing for a while, until that memo...not saying more, was that we should send a D-Class in with a high definition camera, equipped with a dimmer lens, as well as a few flash bangs. This place eats light, sure, but we've proven it takes time, and a sudden influx does have a noticeable effect on how much it eats at one time. We might even be able to find a ground state.
Of course, this kept getting denied because it might cause damage to the skip or the personnel(Ha, Command worried about D-Class? Since when?). I think it's because they know something they're not telling us about the dash 1 in this case. Still, it's their secret to keep, I suppose.

This particular SCP fascinates me to no end. There appears to be some sort of creature in there that is very dangerous, but the creature has done nothing. Every D class that has entered, has injured themselves trying to get away from a manifested head. I would really like to see one of the in MTF teams, like maybe the mole rats or somebody who's used to dealing with incorporeal manifestations. I think that would help to complete this file. It just seems like we're missing something big in there.
Yeah, and in the second case, it even could be indicated to have revived the individual who had fallen with the express purpose of getting it to leave the stairwell. The thing I like about this particular story is that there is a mystery and enough being teased to really get into, but never giving enough to lose the mystery.
087 consumes whatever enter it's domain, whether electronic or organic. That's why all the equipments from previous expeditions vanished and on the 3rd one, knowing how it causes fear, it went behind the woman to make her go down instead of allowing her to ascend. She and the 4th never made it out.
It's also highly possible that many curious students went down the stairs before it was discovered by the Foundation and contained.

D-8432 is a 43-year old Caucasian male of average build and appearance and unremarkable psychological background. Class-D designation is a result of demotion due to mishandling SCP-2814. D-8432 is equipped with a 75 watt flood lamp with battery power capable of lasting 24 hours, a handheld camcorder fitted with a transmission stream, and an audio headset for communication with Dr. ██████ at Control.
D-8432 steps through doorway onto initial platform. Despite the wattage, the flood lamp only illuminates the first 9 steps. The second platform is not visible.
D-8432: It's fucking dark.
Dr. ██████: Is your flood lamp functioning properly?
D-8432 shines the light out the door and into the academic building's hallway. The light reaches significantly further.

imagine a type green child, with powers to change reality but no control over them, one day he wanders off his mother maybe a teacher in the university, maybe a stundent, and he for some reason, ends up going down a stairwell and ends up thinking that the stairs are infinite, so they turn infinite, he keeps going and eventually, night comes, the university closes for the day, and light goes off, then he probably an infant, enters a panic, he has no strenght left, he is hungry, he its scared focusing on the darknes, so his realty changes and becomes darkness, he thinks hes doomed and nobody can reach him, so it happens, fueled by his strong emotions of fear, his powers trap him in an endless stairwell
that or maybe some kind of entity like the one below the tunnels in antarctica waiting for his revenge maybe his revenge its completed and the one that killed this child dont reinacarnate ?

I always hated this SCP. Send in a small team of Mole rats or some MTF that doesn't freak out at the first sight of a monster and let them check it out.
The face doesn't seem super hostile. And you'd think the research team would want to know more, especially if it is turning aggressive.
That's standard, send in the D's then the Pros. But they never did that, just pad the door and pretend it doesn't exist, that's a "great idea". I get its an earlier SCP but seriously there is no reason not to have sent an MTF.

SCP will use D-class people in this, where radio transmission can be done no matter the depth, but will not use something immune to psychological attack like a Rover (ground moving drone) of sorts? Yep. If you're precise enough about it you'd have a good way to test if coriolis effects apply within the stairwell. If they don't, an aerodynamically appropriate object should fall without ever contacting the rails no matter how far the stairs go down.

Of course you could also rig a winch to lower or raise things (and people) the same way, albeit with some risk of getting caught on a railing. Good way to lower supplies to a really extended expedition, or raise (say) a crying child to the surface without having to carry her. Pretty sure we have an infinite ball of unbreakable string somewhere in the Safe storage we could use for the job.

what about 2 D-class personnel sent in there with flashlights strapped into jackets or whatnot and confirm that the face isn´t blocking either the stairs up or down, also trying to speak to the face or shoot it to verify if the face is the one causing it or something trying to scare people out of the SCP (with mixed results I´ll admit)

This one always confuses me. They could send in drones, fill the stairwell with a team of people with lights, or just brick up the top of the stairwell and turn it into a actual room and forget the rest exists. He'll, they could drop high explosives into it and destroy the stairwell completely.

The visual feed is black, and audio picks up only the subject's breathing and the continuous pleading coming from below. After 14 minutes and 32 seconds of unchanging visual and audio feeds, the sound of a rapid heartbeat not consistent with a human heartbeat, and a low cracking noise is heard. 7 seconds later, D-9035 gasps and revives, continuing his ascent of the stairs rapidly and wordlessly. The heartbeat and cracking cease, and nothing abnormal is detected on the visual feed. He remains unresponsive. D-9035 exits SCP-087 and sits on the floor outside of the entrance.
D-9035 then enters a catatonic state from which he has not yet recovered.
