SCP-217 - The Clockwork Virus

- SCP 217 is a Keter Class anomaly also known as The Clockwork Virus.
SCP-217 is a virus, incurable by current means, with a rate of infectivity at 100%. It affects all organisms in the kingdom Animalia, and can be spread via touch or contact with bodily fluid.
SCP217 alters the biochemistry of organic tissue, causing organic matter to re-arrange into a form of “organic metal”.
A subject will begin to turn into a complex arrangement of gears and clockwork, these taking over for the former biological functions.

SCP foundation motto: Make everything Euclid and Keter class if possible. If it's safe, let's piss it off until it starts killing.
Me to
Ok
. .. I can't even argue with this. I'm just waiting for 999 to get turned into a living blob of acid lol
You forgot the designation of Neutralized.
@@arikutin1032 yeah but that's so rare, that it doesn't even matter in the long run
The Adeptus Mechanicus: "Why are you saying that as if its a bad thing?"
It's funny how literally Dr. Gears is involved in most mechanical anomalies
Well when your last name is friction Gears, you’re going to deal with gears! Like with my own last name referring to a field of wheat, and in a story I’m a farmer
Nomen est omen.
@@Iraijus time to look up what that means
Dr. Gears: Look at this! A complete description of how this virus infects, corrupts and completely destroys the human brain! SCP Council: Cool! Now burn it
Why did they do that? It is a rather dumb course of action.
One potential reason could be to stop people from wanting to be infected
huh & here i thought they'd keep it & find a way to weaponize it /:
My guess is that a lot of the negative symptoms in the document are lies to stop people from purposefully contacting the virus, and the document on how it affects the brain would prove that it actually had little to no side effects. After all, the Church purposefully gives it to their higher members, if it really gave you dementia (which, note, is caused by failure of the brain) it would've caused the Church to collapse.
I guess they have to write their way out of letting the fight between the scps and the foundation get too one sided
Blood letting was based on "humor theory" and trying to balance the "humors" blood, phlegm, saliva, and urine were thought of as humors needing balanced. So if goute leaking one more than usual them you would want to try to leak others.
@@cameronrussell7365 oddly enough, i do have one. history is a fun class
what's a humor means in that theory? the first time I heard that familiar word really weirded me
@@silent0089 :each of the four chief fluids of the body (blood, phlegm, yellow bile (choler), and black bile (melancholy)) that were thought to determine a person's physical and mental qualities by the relative proportions in which they were present.
Uu
isn't that how George Washington died?
Did anyone else notice that during the part of the video where they talked about the zombie virus falling into the wrong hands, the non SCP scientists had the Umbrella logo from the Resident Evil games on their coats and building?
Yup, a nice little touch, although i don't think this is the first time they've used the Umbrella logo for "generic evil scientist group", i feel like i've seen it be used in another video.
Yes I did
I was also thinking of that
Yeah i was looking for this comment
Yeah, neat detail to be honest.
It's a nice touch.
it crazy how the foundation has so much tech and power on what they could do but still lags behind on most anomalies
It's hard to understand things that simply don't make sense, and without understanding there's bound to be one or two oversights here or there. It makes for a great plot if written correctly.
Americans, am I right
@@The-Branch Eric’s toy go *worrpgvifhebroto* (referencing the screeches and loud noises it makes)
It's the fault of the writers not fully understanding the material due to the unorthodox manner in which multiple stories are done by different authors with different perspectives. look at how inconsistent the flash became with each season
@@justinw1219
To coincide with this, the multiple writers means that continuity is practically a non-factor. Different SCP entries can all be considered their own canons, since the Foundation will go from having enough anomalous tech to build the Dragonslayer to struggling to counter a tree kid (because sacrificing kids for the sake of science is totally preferable to just killing it).
I never thought of it that way. It's not even killing you. It just robs you from everything what makes you a human. Your consciousness and your body. Leaving you as just a... soulless machine. And the fact that it's so f*cking slow that it's imposibble to even know where it came from, make it more disturbing. And my phobia from clockwork make it way more disturbing for me personally.
Phobia of Clockwork?? How does that work
@@shargo498 yeah I didn't even know that existed. Guess there's pretty much a fear for anything at this point🤷♂️
It does technically kills you tho
Ahey,i had an idea about an experiment:try removing someone's brain, turn it immune(in some way) to the clockwork virus and putting it in someone totally infected, does the brain continues made out of flesh or it phisically turns into clockwork but the consciousness continues intact?
to be perfectly honest, I'm not all that fond of being a human (or even an organic, mortal life form) myself. having sentience and sapience is really the only things I really like about being human, but I must admit I'd like there to be a reliable way to rise above even that, and for lack of a better term, shed the things I dislike about being human: i.e. being organic and unable to live forever.
Dr. Gears: Did you hire me for this because of my last name?
SCP: it’s not the only reason, but it could be a primary one.
Im surprised you guys haven’t made this SCP video, but yes!! Thank you for ur daily dosage, SCP explained
The term "daily dose" will always be ruined for me
What I'm surprised about is HOW DAMN LONG THE INTRO WAS! It was an EIGHT AND A HALF MINUTE INTRO!

@@Pistachio_cream Heh don't, I got a good medication that is working now and it's only a 4 year setback. I'll get back to things
Good luck buddy
That's the genuine horror of the SCP, the symptoms are common twitches, pains and aches that people often have.
@@MrSailing101 Well I can 100% confirm that if you haven't had pain like it, you won't be capable of understanding it. I say that because the pain I dealt with was higher than my previous self had imagined was even possible
Love the resident evil reference with the umbrella corperation
Why is being reconfigured to become more compatible with Mekhane's blueprint seen as a plague ? Hasn't the SCP Foundation ever heard of hollistic upgrades ?
Because of it being able to be spread.
Well, the advanced stages are said to be severely painful and it diminishes your mental state, so it's not exactly a good thing. Plus it has a 100% infection rate, can go undetected for long periods of time, and is currently incurable.
This channel was able to make roughly a sixth of the video not about actual SCPs and instead about real-world cases of viruses and diseases and I still listened.
The last 2 years has made me ready for this video, orrr maybe not...I'm feeling a tad metallic

Probably one of my favorite scps out of them all. Also sounds cool to become robotic as well
It basically kills you- but in all, it's a cool scp
Robots this really cool one
The thought of the scp foundation raiding umbrella and smashing stuff is the most comical thing I can imagine.
I love how you included Umbrella, they would most certainly be a big rival to SCP
Umbrella would basically be MCD but for viral diseases and not anomalous objects. Same premise, different merchandise.
Wesker and Dr. Clef meeting each other for the first time would be an interesting interaction
I like how the foundation is reasonable to do what is right but in a wrong way . If the foundation is real I'll really love to join it one day
agreed! i jwould love to just imagine it would be real or maybe it is real but in a alternate universe from ours either the foundation is overall badass
You know that even being something like a jr researcher can become extremely dangerous in a hurry, right?

Yayyy!! You guys finally made a video on the clockwork virus! I've watched other videos on it before but you guys are always my favorite to come to for my SCP knowledge ☺️
I wonder if the luck virus from red dwarf would be an scp? And yes as the name implies the luck virus makes a person very lucky like somebody says it would be nice if we had this item and you’d just find it on the ground lucky

I love that they start describing what the actual SCP is when you already watched half of this video.
My daily craving the SCP content is fulfilled by you guys
I love this channel so much, the content is infinite for and yet ur the only channel that utilize and produce it while still being true to the source material. This channel really got me into the scp story line.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EXACT VIDEO! AAHH, BLESSED MY DAYY
I love when the intro is 8+ minutes long. 😂
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine. Yes! One of my favourite scps!
Fun fact: Leeches have a legitimate medical use nowadays. They're used when reattaching a severed limb to a patient. They help to remove the stagnant blood from the reattached limb while blood from the rest of the body pumps fresh blood back in. From what ive heard it significantly improves the chances of the limb recovering.
1:14 Virus: YOU THOUGHT U GOT RID OF ME BIH
Political Man: Oh god
I actually forgot I was watching an SCP video during the intro and was interested in just the pandemic education.
Funny thing is when you read up on this SCP. The end of it leave you thinking everyone is infected with it. Telling you joints that crack and creek is a early sign of Infection
YEEEEES FINALLY
I do wonder what would happen if someone were to be infected by SCP-217 and SCP-610 at the same time.
Throw 008 in there.
2:31 Ahhh my favourite country, Europe.
Just joshing, great video as always x
This SCP sound appealing when you already heard about 1 = When Day Break
To be honest a society of clock robot organisms doesn’t sound that bad like “Oh you have a broken arm don’t worry I’ll have doctors make you a new one and it’ll be here by next week” and we don’t have to worry about viruses and stuff and we’d still (Somewhat) be human so doesn’t sound too bad
Think about the aztec gold curse, would it still be life if you couldnt eat, smell or feel? The two diferrences is the clockwork virus also erradicates the emotions and cant be cured
We've got a live one!
I’ve been waiting for this video!

Nothing save creating a counter virus that turns silicon based lifeforms into carbon based lifeforms. The use of nanomachines to actively counteract the changes would also be effective.

The fact this video didn't get slapped with an infobox marks the end of an era that lasted far too long.

Video game idea:
You play as a victim of the clockwork virus. Your infection springs about some unique results, such as having a hidden dagger in your wrist, or your hand turning into a pistol, and as the game goes on and the infection spreads more, you gain new abilities.
The overall objective is to reach SCP-500 and cure yourself.

it all sounds good until the part where you get dementia and your mind slowly forms into something birthed of unspeakable horror

So this fly in my house could be a clockwork fly, I'm hearing annoying ticking noise
if it is an infected fly, you have two options: 1. if you like what the Clockwork Virus does to people, let the fly land on you and embrace the glory of Mekhane. 2. if you don't want to become a machine.... run!

Fascinating!
I'd love to voice act one of these stories
I love anything to do with The Church Of The Broken God. This entry is in my top 10 SCPs.
I was not expecting to be this early
Magneto would be perfect for detecting this virus. And dealing with it.
Am guessing that it works by hijacking multiple cells(like a real virus)and instead of using the cells to procreate like normal viruses it turns them into gear, wires etc. Maybe that's how it procreate and that's just a side effect but in the end they hijack a lot of cell and merge them together to make the mechanical things. That's my reasoning but I don't know how to make a cure for that unless you killed the virus instantly before it does any damage I don't think it's reversible unless you just planted new organs after removing every single virus cell. Gl with that
This popped into my head. If any of you played tf2 you might be familiar with the red tape recorder. It's purpose is to deconstruct mechanical object such as robots and electronics. So would that work as an effective cure?
The sapper might have work as well in that case, but it could also just explode the patient
Loved the Umbrella Corp reference…
I love The SCP stories.... Is it just me though, or does the SCP seem vastly incompetent. We don't even know where most SCP objects originated.
They probably know a lot more than is declassified.
being a anomaly also includes materializing out of nowhere, just like an object popping in a videogame or an everyday object or being spontaneously changing to something different. It's basically a glitch in reality.

Day 284 of asking the O5 Council to use SCP-1968 to create a universe in which 682 doesn't exist.
Out of most of the diseases in the SCP universe that I have to be infected by, I'd choose this. It's bad due to you becoming a biomechanical drone, but at least it's not deadly and gross like the flesh that hates.
