Can't it be a ship, human or otherwise, that's been dead and adrift ever since the firing of the Halos, eventually crashing in to Installation 04?
I did think that. Which makes it another level of creepy. May have been flood occupied or just another species, the Halos fired, sterilising life on the ship, and it just drifts, empty. Everything inside kind of frozen in time, until it crashes on Halo. A true ghost ship, by any standard.

@@Installation00 Hell, could be one of the ships Mendicant sent out during his battle with Offensive. Wouldn't be a terribly exciting revelation, but it would make sense and leave room for the possibility of other aimlessly drifting Forerunner ghost ships just waiting to be stumbled upon.
Vex that would be very convenient to have a ship somehow crash directly on the ring itself while adrift in space.

The Endless ! HiddenXperia did a video on "The Meddlers" about 5yrs ago and has hints n Easter eggs leading up to their reveal in Infinite. His most video on the Endless being some version of the precursors or created by them
Dude, the mystery is missing from a lot of science fiction/fantasy these days. I think writers have become more obsessed with answering questions in the worlds they build than they are in asking them now.
LtDavidB312 writers aren’t intelligent enough to create mystery anymore. They resort to answering them with terribly thought out stories.
@@punctuationman334 The general audience isn't exactly a thoughtful lot, to be fair. Mystery is always expected to be explained nowadays. That's not how real life works, and that detracts from the meaning of a story... Or the feels, as they say. The Force has been over-explained too. It kinda takes away from the whole experience.
Having explained mysteries and unexplained mysteries can be good as long as it was well executed. For me at least.
@@punctuationman334 I think you'll find that writing is a reflection of the audience. Whenever we have a game, a show or a book that doesn't answer all it's mysteries people will rant about it online - that's probably partly to blame for the complete abandon of the unanswered questions are the best type of worldbuilding type of storytelling that used to be quite popular.
@@ButterBoyism the problem is when a game/movie OVERexplain them, not by people finding elements, quotes or hidden things that explain them if you connect things up, but literally explaining like a teacher to a child. (example: new star wars trilogy)
If you overexplain things, it takes away the mistery about it, a thing the character you are playing or watching, doesn't know yet. And when you are watching or playing something, you must feel as the character or at least inside the world they are on, with the laws, the physics, ethics of it too, if you don't feel like that, it becomes artificial, with no magic, uninteresting.
I think that ship is there to point out just how little we know since we think the opposite. We only know of a handful of species while there are hundreds out there. I think it also helps us relate to spark thinking “what is this thing and how did it get here?”
In-lore. Thier are 123 advance civilizations prior to the activation of the rings. Could be waaay more before the galactic spread of the flood.
Remember to that space of the former Covenant Empire holds no more that half of the orion arm, no more than 2000 light years across minimum with 12 species & a unknown of fringe species. While the UNSC/CMA holds no more than 100 light years across in a galaxy of 100,000 light years across. Halo defiantly has more advance species, 343i are taking thier time to set up the universe even deeper to add more species to Star-trek & Star Wars level.
@@tristanbackup2536 Im a year late to the conversation. But there were 123 civilizations that the Forerunners considered advanced. We dont know what their criteria for "advanced" was so it was likely that there were far more intelligent species out there.

@@midgetydeath yeah, kinda also points to how Guilty Spark was hamstrung by Forerunner protocol to the point of loneliness and basically rampancy. He even points out how they should have had 2 monitors on each installation.
It makes the Halo universe seem enormous- with all that goes on and everywhere the player has been, this whole other species stumbled into it without being directly a part of the backstory. Hinting that with all thats out there, maybe even the Forerunner were limited in what they knew beyond the galaxy.
Now that the endless have been introduced into the lore, would this imply that maybe the endless could have been the visitors?

Did Guilty Spark not say at somepoint he had been visited by species before the covenant and Humans but they were aggressive and din't want to talk? Could the ship belong to one of these species?

He notes the ship is short-ranged and has a distress signal. Maybe the others mistakenly (or correctly) thought he shot it down and attacked the ring only to be curbstomped.
Yes 343 please bring back the mystery. I concur whole heartedly!!! The awe and mystery in Halo comabt evolved made me enjoy it for hours wandering around, that plus the gregorian chanting... Now that it's absent from the series it all feels a little more common place. More ancient humanity please
Agreed. Once it was revealed that the Forerunners were just Star Trek-style Klingon-faced humans with bad dialogue instead of some unknowable technological wonder beyond comprehension of either Human or Covenant, I immediately discounted anything from 343 Industries as Halo canon. What a fucking disappointment. What a fucking waste.

Im very sure, this Vessel isnt Human. 1. The Design is just on the first View similar, on the second you see its much more like ancient San'Shyuum Design, but im sure it is not. 2. The Outbreak on Installation 05 goes to the account of a still unknown Species, for which it was very easy to bypass the Protocols and safety Measures. So it's probably the ship of this Species. I have no Idea why they visit the Halos, but there is a lot more behind it. 3. There was also an Elite (forgot the name) who reported that his entire Fleet was destroyed by a Ship of unknown Origin near a Shield World. so they know the Location of all Forunner Facilities. I wonder if they have any Connection to the Precursors. Sry for my bad English.

Or maybe its forerunners that survived the rings firing maybe from onyx shield world even tho no forerunners were found on onyx(or in) not all of onyx has been discovered just because of how huge it is
Response to people asking about the ship got the in-character written response to the fans that it looks like the designs of the seven client species of something that then is essentially redacted. It looks almost Covenant, there are seven Covenant species minus the Engineers (who are computers, not a species), and humanity is the children/inheritors of their gods. Perhaps the ship comes from an alternate reality in which the hierarchs did not hide the truth of the Reclaimer symbol from the Covenant, slipspace is after all a breach in reality. Or perhaps from the future.

Spark said something about this ship being a short range vessel and that there may be other ships nearby in the system. The ship being ancient human is definitely possible, but I feel that spark would be able to access forerunner archives and would know about ancient human technology even if he didn't remember his own past as a human.
I think pretty early on he was experiencing rampant signs. An at that time the domain was damaged.
Spark was a human? did his consciousness get transported into the Monitor?

Exactly it pisses me off that people still think the Halo array destroys the flood. The halo array only killed the floods food. It likely took 2-20 years for the flood to die off( decomposing matter ).

Perhaps Guilty Spark didn't recognize the unknown vessel because it was entirely outside his knowledge base. Another Precursor, perhaps? In one of their many physical forms. After the initial firing of the Halo array the Star Roads and other technology were screwed up just like the Domain was. So maybe it set about traveling in whatever it could find or hitch a lift on.
Doubt it, they were pretty advanced, crashing seems off.
Or it could be precursors coming to repair things some things that got fucked up
The existence of ark and forerunners in the lore pretty much proves there's life outside the galaxy.
So I'm inclined to believe your theory that it was a ship from such a extra galactic race.
I think the Ark was kept outside of the Milky Way to prevent the Flood from getting to it. But I would be interested to see what other species might be present in the Halo universe. Or even other kinds of Forerunners, as we've mostly seen the Didact and Librarian in the games, and the Didact was marinating in his hatred for humanity for the better part of 100,000 years!

I had a little nerd out to this comment. Can you imagine the Halo and Mass Effect Universes coexisting? I wonder how the two universes could feasibly coexist!?
@@Installation00 opposite sides of the galaxy or a nearby galaxy or mass effect turn it halo. The old humans were from mass effect after defeating the reapers then years later found the flood
There was a theory that this was a mass effect Easter egg but it’s unconfirmed. The reasons were that it looked like a reaper (or an artists interpretation), CE:A along with the terminals were released when mass effect 3’s ad campaign was in full effect, and that the achievement tied to it was titled “Hitch hikers may be escaping convicts” which is rather ominous (I know it’s also an ODST reference). The major counterpoint to this is that these cutscenes aren’t cheap and it would be a helluva expensive Easter egg and that it could very possibly be an unencountered faction from Halo’s giant galaxy.
It’s cool to think about anyway.
@@Installation00 There's a lot of great Halo/ME crossover stories, but unfortunately, there's virtually no way for the two to co exist in the same galaxy. The only way to make it believable is through parallel realities accessible through slipspace (usually via a drive malfunction or other anomaly.)
The closest I've seen to them both being in the Milky Way, in a good and believable form, is in On the Illusion of Might by evevee. In that interpretation, Halo takes place in the Milky Way, and Mass Effect in the Large Magellanic Cloud. They discover each other a few decades after the Great War.
Here are my favorite Halo/ME crossovers:
To Infinity (formerly The Infinity Effect): The UNSC Infinity and the Shadow of Intent appear in Earth orbit a few hours before the start of ME3.
The Lost Civilization: A group of ODSTs trying to escape Installation 00 crash land on Thessia, 90k years before ME1.
The Fighting Spirit: Jorge-052 surfs a third of the Long Night of Solace through slipspace and into the ME universe.
@@Installation00 what i like to think about is how the grave mind or grave minds would react to the reaper threat. would the grave mind be able to infect the indoctrinated? would the reapers be able to indoctrinate the flood?
I'd always assumed that it was a vessel of Covenant origin and that the crash was essentially caused by them being, as Halo 2 put it, "When you first saw Halo, where you blinded by it's majesty? ... Paralysed? Dumbstruck?" or something like that.
We are the ancient humans. The Halo rings have just been fired a couple thousand years ago. The galaxy is empty. We are alone

As we know, they were too stupid to just take the genetic data of all life which they doubtlessly had and then just create life anew from that. Most likely they threw it away or something, judging from how bad their decision making generally is.

If thats the case, we need to get on making our own cryptic unknowable ruins and leaving them on planets to mystify and confuse future alien species all over the galaxy.
Ever consider the fact when you're piloting a vessel on course would be in the blast radius of the Halo Rings wiping out all life, could be the fact wiping out all life on board leaving the ship functioning but abandoned under its own power before crashing down onto Halo. A unknown vessel with no crew is a mystery...
As is said at the end of Silentium the Monitors without knowing it was going to happen had parts of there memory erased, concealing secrets and hiding there past from even their self they are only left with the needed memories to run the instillation. That:-

Well the 'apocalyps' happened about 100,000 years ago _ the dinosaurs died out supposedly millions of years ago but then again I believe carbon dating is bullshit an not close to accurate.

The meddlers have a mysterious eeriness to them just like how in real life history. The Sea Peoples were there, destroyed Bronze Age civilizations, then they’re gone. No more records besides that.
The disappearance of mystery is a good way to describe how Halo has sort of lost what made it great' since 343i took over. There _was_ a great deal of it in Halo 4, but they explained most of it and wrapped up that game's plot-line almost entirely within the game.

Perhaps, it is an ancient human ship, but escaped from the galaxy prior to the firing of the Halo Array, and returned many, many, many years after? By the way, when I first saw that ship, I thought it was a Covenant Cruiser of some kind. And I do agree, the mystery DOES need to return to Halo
Video Idea: Could you perhaps do a video on how supposedly Bungie intended for the Forerunners to initially be ancient humans and not a separate species entirely? I've always heard that talking point pass around, especially since Guilty Spark tells Chief at one point "you _are_ Forerunner." Then somewhere down the line, the Forerunners were made into a separate species entirely. 343 solidified this in Halo 4 by telling us ancient humans and Forerunners actually warred against one another. It would be interesting to explore this and see how much truth there is to this supposed lore change by Bungie during the development of the original trilogy of games. It'd also be cool to see how the dialogue discrepancies this supposedly made in the games is explained away in universe.
343 said that to Chief because he has a forerunners geas put in him from the forerunner saga books

@@punctuationman334 They were toying with the idea, but decided against it when they were developing Halo 3. Before that, Bungie intended for the forerunners and humanity to be one and the same.
Guilty Spark was excited that humans/forerunners had survived.

I seriously hope Halo Infinite finally answers this mystery. I've been wondering about this little scenario since way back in 2011. Who or what was on this dang craft? And how did they manage to survive the firing of the Halo Array or at least recover and become space-faring again so soon?
Are they a threat? Are they allies? From beyond our own galaxy as you say? I must know!! 😁
I'm torn here, because half of me so badly wants to know who or what the mystery ship was, but the other half of me wants it to remain unknown. But then, that's what Halo did so beautifully during the original trilogy of games. The Forerunners sat perfectly on the line between the two. We knew just enough about the to inflame our imaginations, but not enough to make them feel familiar and known.

I just think some form of Covenant ship, given the ornate, rounded shapes and the fact that it's got a purple hull and glowing green lights in some spots.
What if the ship was shot downby someone else? It looks like that because the ship had burning parts on it and they do not look like atmosphere entry marks.
What if it IS in fact an extra-galactic species, independent from the Precursors, and about as advanced as the Forerunners, but with vastly different ideologies.
Perhaps they could introduce a conflicting history to the Halo universe that would lead to everyone--characters and players alike--to question everything they know about Halo.
Imagine if this species was somehow exempt from the Mantle of Responsibility. Or maybe the Mantle is just a lie, perpetuated by the Precursors.
Or maybe the flood's destruction at the power of the halo array was an illusion, and the flood truly is unstoppable.
@Installation00 you hit the nail on the head man. I miss the mystery and mystique of Halo CE. Bungie let on too fast with the mystery of the Covenant. Then 343 let on too quickly with the mystery of the Forerunners.
Well I think the covenant being explored in halo 2 was amazing. What 343 did was a bit less impressive.

@@basedlegionary6877 hmmm from what we know not all precursors turned themselves into dust and became corrupted some fled the galaxy etc. Possible they started anew? Maybe came back and visited again flood controlled was close to the halo firing and it crashed there? There are many possibilities here.

the reapers showed up to do their regular cleansing and found everything already dead, then they saw all the forerunner technology and were like "maybe we shouldnt come back here, we might have to deal with this shit if we do"
I'm a little bit late to the party, but this video made me think. If the forerunners used slipspace bubbles as protection from the Halo rings firing (I.E. Onyx), would ships (if any) traveling through slipspace at the time of the rings firing be protected from the pulse?

I loved it because it made sense in CE when GS told Chief “you *ARE* Forerunner”. Now they had to make some leaps and bounds to get to the story we have now
343, give this man a Fleet of mystery ships to speculate on.
The reclamation should be modern humanity recovery of their Ancient Human precursors technology culture etcetera to include the Forerunners if I recall the Ancient humans had access to Precursor technology and that should be included in future installments
I don't think they had access to technology on the same level as the precursors but rather they reversed engineered precursor tech to be on the same level as the forerunners. Something the forerunners did as well to an extent.
I think it was more put in as a way to narrate and explain Guilty Sparks dedication to his protocols. It also helps color in his fracturing of his mind over time. Without random events like that, we would just see him flying around doing mundane activities. Giving him this rare event allows the story to highlight his inner arguments as he gets closer to rampancy. I would love more lore than that but thats the more likely reason initially.
3. It’s the meddlers
It could be a Xalanyn ship. I think 343 will shed more light on this incident in the future. What I can say is this, it does not appear to be a Forerunner, Covenant, Banished, or ancient human ship. As you rightfully pointed out if it were an ancient human ship 343 guilty spark would not have been perplexed. Also the purple color of the crashed ship do not match ship designs/colors used by ancient humanity. The only possibility I can think of it is a San Shyuum or Xalanyn aircraft. We do know the Xalanyn as a species did not travel far beyond their home world and 343 Guilty Spark observed the crashed ship appeared to be a 'short range' ship. Firing of the Halo array must have fried the electronics of the ship inside and it drifted into Alpha Halo ultimately crashing down uncontrollably.

could be the endless ... seems like they can time travel or at least manipulate time and they were kept secret from pretty much everyone except a few forerunners + despondent pyre + cortana which could explain how 343 didn't know what they were at all and could also explain why they've disappeared and why their signal was for short distances.

If 343 intends to introduce ancient humans to the new Halo games, then maybe there were humans that fled the galaxy during the war with the forerunners, and they are only just returning home now.

I like to imagine that the cut enemies from Halo 2 refered to as: "Alien Trooper" and "Special Purpose Sniper" are these "Meddlers". They look more "alien" than any of the species of the Covenant, like if they're from outside our galaxy and they fit the aesthetic of the unknown crashed vessel very well.
Utterly freaked out aliens in a galaxy full of primitives and scattered hyper advanced super constructs and, if they look closely, they'll notice the simultaneous mass extinction of large lifeforms throughout the galaxy, the UNSC had noticed even before encountering the Covenant if I remember correctly. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
Watching this just made me wanna replay the entire series again for the 100th time. Halo infinite you better be LIT 🔥 WAS

Someone mentioned this today and and I hadn't heard of it before, so after doing some research I'm wondering if it could be the Endless. If maybe the forerunners thought they locked all the Endless up, but perhaps there were a few ships that escaped, and they were going to these Halo rings searching for their imprisoned species.
Its also interesting that hiddenxperia had also made a similar video to this but going more into depth
The story of recovering 343 GS from installation 00 is somewhat ret-conned by Halo Wars 2, which had 0 resolution to the fight between the Banished and the Spirit of Fire. So I’m more than a little lost here...
That image from Halo 4 is actually probably an ancient San'Shyuum ship, the one below it is a Human ship as it looks like the one found at Site Yankee-002-G3 almost exactly
I would love to have some mystery back in Halo, but unfortunately 343 can’t make a good story. They did alright in Halo 4 with Chief and some lore about the Forrunners, but 5 they messed it up so badly. Here’s hoping they add some mystery to Infinite

Noticed you used some unused stuff from the Halo: Combat Evolved OST at 6:00. Nice touch. For anyone who doesn't know, look up Halo CE Cut/Forgotten Music. A lot of it ends up in some form in later Halo games.
What if the forerunners that left the Galaxy went to one of these dwarf galaxies and met this advanced species, and gave them the location of the array? Idk why they would do it, but it could have happened.
Or maybe surviving humans of the war and they were trying to run from one Halo ring as it was firing. But doomed since their were others that covered the galaxy and they died, and the ship coincidencely ran into Installation 04. Plus unlike what Spark did with the Autumn and give them a warning their was no time for warning them cause of the speed they came in. Which they were coming at a high rate. There was also an emergency automated message just their version of an SOS.
Coming from the future of knowledge of Halo Infinite, it's an Endless Vessel perhaps?
You know how the covenant designs are essentially the San'shyum designs, well that ship looks eerily similar to covenant ships, so maybe it could be an ancient San'shyum ship.
Says the vessel was short range and there may possibly be more in the system, once the wipe happened I'm sure there was empty fleets of ships roaming through space along with other structures and planets
What if the mineral from the attack on sedra came from that ship
We've actually had more development on the Truth and Reconciliation's AI and it's talk of 'stone journey swarms that serve' since Halo CEA, as at least it got mentioned again in Halo 2 Anniversary. That was the other prominent new mystery.
So, was it under a Logic Plague? Is it speaking of the Flood?

In halo CE everything was a mystery. Humanity knew little about the covenant, nothing about the forerunners, what where the flood.
Now two decades later and everything has been awnsered. Even new questions are explained even as they are found (pre-acivation humans). We've been fighting the same aliens so long that they dont even feel alien amymore.
The games universe has become small in the same way modern world has become small.
I really hope infinity injects some new questions and doesmt rush to answer them, or it may be my last halo 😢

If the last surviving vestiges of the human race perished upon their crash landing on Installation O4 that would
be a gross waste of narrative since the monitor spent a decent amount of time illuminating this perplexing event which sadly has been relegated to a sometimes overlooked and unresolved mystery. Maybe 343 is playing the long game and eventually the mystery ship crash along with other subplots will be resolved in the future with the story’s denouement.

First, this event happen 60,000+ years ago or 40,000 years after the Halo Array fired. Second, who says the ship was destroyed? It was incased in a sarcophagus remember? That alone could mean its section or the sarcophagus itself is there in the debris of Halo Installation 04.
I think theres another possibility to it now that youve shown how much it looks like an ancient human craft. Much like how the sanshyum discovered and left their planet aboard the Forerunner keyship it could also be that another species discovered an ancient human ship on their world and tried to operate it but were unable to properly. This could explain why after such a short time after the firing of the array there was a ship because it wouldve been built by a civilization from before the firing and also why it crashed if another species found and attempted to operate it, that ship came crashing down fast and hard after all, and also it also so suddenly appeared on sensors instead of being detected on long range, possibly suggesting a very close exit of slipspace to the ring

I don't think it was some unknown extragalactic species. It just doesn't make sense narrative wise for the story to just introduce some random species that had no prior relevance to the plot.
I think one possibility that you're overlooking is that they could have been the San'Shyuum. Remember they shared an empire with ancient humanity and weren't devolved like the humans were.
Its discussed that all humans in the galaxy were hunted down and devolved and all Military assets destroyed. If its a human ship from before or during the human/ forerunner war it would have had to be extragalactic since before the end of said war and till after the halo array fired. I like the theory that the halo array attracted the attention of extragalactic beings whether they are known or unknown species.
Yeah but that relatively small ship doesn't really seem like it can travel between galaxies. The forerunners had to build a special ship to explore path kethona an even then they had to take plenty of jumps. That ship just doesnt seem like a ship you would send to another galaxy. The theory of a cleanzed ship makes sense. If one thinks bout it. After ring fired. Ship controlled by something was cleanzed and was truly a ghost ship. I believe it was flood infested but the human atmosphere was still working. Hence the gases matching the ring. What else can this be.
Response to people asking about the ship got the in-character written response to the fans that it looks like the designs of the seven client species of something that then is essentially redacted. It looks almost Covenant, there are seven Covenant species minus the Engineers (who are computers, not a species), and humanity is the children/inheritors of their gods. Perhaps the ship comes from an alternate reality in which the hierarchs did not hide the truth of the Reclaimer symbol from the Covenant, slipspace is after all a breach in reality. Whether it was a human or any other species ship. I don't think that the people on board survived the Halo fire. It most likely was a ship caught in the wave drifting for millennials until it finally crashed into the surface of the ring. Chakas was a low tier, effectively Stone Age human, like all others kept on Halos. It can,t have been a human ship, and 343 would have no memory of technological humans. Besides, the hull shape looks more early Covenant, so probably from Sanghelios.
As much as I’d like to hope that it is ship which belongs to a species that has not been encountered as of yet in the halo Universe, I believe that the information provided to us seems to imply that it is a an ancient human ship, presumably unmanned.
The Atmosphere leaking from the ship is identified as being identical to the atmosphere of installation 04. We also know that Installation 04 has an atmosphere virtually identical to earths.
The occupants were likely killed by the firing of the array, and the ship crash landed after millennia of drifting through space.
If on the other hand, there somehow were occupants 50,000 years after the firing, they would have had to of survived the array via Zeta Halo (for example) or elsewhere, and developed space travel once again. Or somehow the re-seeded human population regained the knowledge of space travel after the array fired, and somehow lost it once again before the 20th century.
There’s no other species in the Halo Universe (as far as I know) that has a homeworld with an atmosphere identical to earth’s, besides potentially the forerunners.
