Definitely agree with the other guy about the scripting and filler words, but also I kinda disagree with your take on the whole TF2:S2 situation.
It's true that there was a lot of misinformation at the start on how "valve used to hire modders, and now they strike them down". And now people are slowly realizing that it's a different situation, since it's a non-valve engine or whatever.
But here's the thing: *What Valve is doing is legally correct, but not morally correct,* and that's what our argument should've been from the start, rather than trying to pretend like we'd be in our rights to make a TF2 port.
Nintendo fans have been dealing with this for a long time, and they have a similar mindset. What Nintendo does is definitely legal, but it's not moral. And heck, those guys have made some superior fan remakes and ports of *PAID* games.
You also said that it doesn't do anything but steal TF2 without modification, but it's still in development, man. Once they get a bit further, we might have a better looking TF2, with less buggier code that could lead to easier community updates and bug fixes, and maybe even stronger security. This would be something of value that's different from base TF2, and it'd solve quite a bit of problems.
And quite frankly, both games are free, and they aren't making money off of it. I mean what revenue are they stealing from Valve...? I guess hats? But if that many players are leaving the real game, along with their inventory of cosmetics, just to get away from the horrible management, are you really the good guys?
I do agree with this year's rally being a lot worse and unorganized though. It definitely started as a kneejerk reaction with no date, and all the youtubers I've seen only gave it a tiny little brief mention on the sideline, rather than a whole dedicated thing. Kinda like "Ehhh, I'm making a video because here's what I think of it, _go sign the petition if you feel like it I guess"_ is the vibe I got.

I read your entire comments and I like it.(Even pinned it) Honestly you brought up some good points about Nintendo and their legal stuff. I really can't agrue with you (since I legit have a emulator and a USB fully of roms to transfer games between my gaming pc and school laptop.) Honestly you brought up a good point about it being legally right but not morally right. You honestly kinda made me question my postion. I still do think that Valve was in the right but now I kinda agree partly with the tf2s2 supporters that it still wasn't the best morally.
I dont often script videos or do any type of opinion type videos so I think that's why I did a bunch of filler words. Anyway loved your comment/take.

      @@Chris_Husk Some stutters and stammers:
      2:15 _"It's basically gee- Garry's Mod 2"_
2:27 _"The game is still inv- closed beta, and by closed beta, I mean peop- It's really hard to get access to"_

3:04 _"And fourth, I kinda feel like... It's kinda just... outright... stealing TF2... like"_
7:43 Pretty much everything here lmao (Though it was very heartfelt, which I can appreciate)
Some sentences that are still correct, but came out a bit awkward and might've needed a retake:
      2:23 _"andit's being developed by..."_
3:48 _"but when they combined that they both happen"_
      etc.
      -----
Though to be honest, I think my main point is more-so that a script with some better editing choices would help demonstrate your point a lot more clean and efficiently, without going in circles. (Admittedly the stutters are still a bit distracting though.)
I think some people like Zesty and Dane can get away with unscripted videos, because they have a lot more experience in these kinda things, and/or they simply may not struggle with public speaking.
But I've definitely tried making a video guide for my friends before, and I've also seen myself in instant replays. And I can safely say that I exhibit the same behaviours. All the way down to the awkward or incoherent sentences because my mouth is running faster than my mind, so I can understand you. Especially since you basically had to speedrun the video!
But a spoonful of sugar _does_ help the medicine go down, so I will say that visual edits are pretty good, and I think a lot of the points you made are good or interesting to think about!

  • @general_drakon773

I do agree that more tools to kick bots would be great, but there is a reason why you cant votekick when you first join. It prevents the bots from instantly calling a vote, giving players a window to call on them if they recognize the name. Something like a hotkey to call a vote, changing the vote kick screen to include a players class, and maybe a reduced time to kick if a votekick was successful. May also be worth it to allow f2ps to at least type, or better yet give them voicechat. You could set it up to automute someone that's sending too much audio or text, and allow players to undo the automute if they want.
I'm not sure about the third one as it might make it easier for bots to kick players if they have a majority, but if the bots have one they'll likely be able to kick everyone quickly anyways. I also havn't seen bots votekick as often recently.
Major reason why I think a vote kick that succeeded should result in a shorter timer is it's normal just 1-2 ppl bothering to actually kick the bots, so when 4-5 join a game they can endure the vote kickers.
I can live with only the rare update that adds just a little, but they should make some effort to continuely supress bots, and let us know if they do so we don't get mad at nonexistant inaction.
    I like TF2

    • @Chris_Husk
      @Chris_Husk  4 місяці тому +2

Yeah I think that the vote kick time should be reduced to 1 minute. 2 mins is a bit too long and allows bots to fill up the lobby

I think a big mistake people are making with the bots and Valve in general is that exploiters and bots are a treadmill problem if you don't try the super-modern ways, aka deep-learning algorithms and A.I., which mind you, probably isn't compatible with Source at all in the current moment.
It's going to be a REALLY, REALLY hot minute before the treadmill problem finally starts to slow down, so the best you and I can do is endure the bots and maybe help Valve in finding solutions to these problems, such as Megascatterbombs anticheat (yes he's still working on that).

Something to add about the TF2 Source 2 drama and how people say "Oh valve changed, they would have hired those people in the past and make it an official port!". Well yeah in the past they would do that because they trusted that the people they helped by giving them very important files to make games with wound't leak that, and if you look back at recent times many people went out and leaked so many assets and files that were never meant to be public,so I completly understand why valve would not want to share their files with people again.

I already thought TF2 was dead. I reinstalled it about 5 weeks ago and there were virtually no players scrolling through the server list. I might need to find a hub for all the servers that don't show up on the servers list but I could only find like 5 nearly full servers which made me feel like the game was dead. I stopped playing when Overwatch came out so it's been a while but I figured that's just how it was going for the game. 2 or 3 years ago I did the same and just found servers with just bots occupying them so I figured the playerbase was long gone now.
Hopefully the game gets saved, despite growing away from the game I have fond memories and the most hours of any steam game played still. I think it's closing in on 2k hours.

And when they don't everyone goes on the same servers which are almost always full. Tf2 is really active. On average it has 100k people online. Tf2 actually just reached New peak on their player count of 257k players. Most people just join on valves official servers

That valve doesn't wanna be on a treadmill does not mean there are no solutions to the bot problem. It would literally be as simple as hiring a dedicated anti cheat team or even one guy to go around servers and manually ban bots or just try to thwart them, don't even have to let him make judgements that lead to false bans, just let them only deal with really nasty obvious ones

THE BOTS ARE DOXXING PEOPLE. their no longer just a thing that disrupts the game or makes the game unplayable, their being used as a weapon. The item servers being down isn't the end of the world. tf2:s2 being dmca'd isn't the end of the world.
But having your personal details like your full name, Home address, and threats of real life violence or accusations of crimes. even having your voice cloned so people think you say slurs. THAT IS SERIOUS. valve needs to do something not just to fix the game. But to protect the people who are playing it, And the bot hosters that are specifically doxxing people and making threats and cloning peoples voices, need to face real life consequences. This has happened to megascatterbot I'm pretty sure quite recently. but its happened to other players and people within the community before. valve still does nothing about it.
valve needs to be made aware that their neglect of this game has caused this and be held responsible for their lack of action. And if they don't do something about it, The people who are trying to fix it on their behalf can have real like violence enacted against them.

Valve isn't doing anything with the game, TF2 itself started as a mod from another game. Valve stopping mods(or ports) such as this from being made severely cuts down on the game's lifespan. They having the legal high ground doesn't give them the moral high ground to do it and be on the right.
If the port did go forward we may have had a couple hundred new prople trying to play it, or an entire new section could've been formed around this port because of teh lack of bots, instead Valve went full nintendo on a game that they put on life support.
On top of that they could very well have done the same to the Cheat exploit that is up on GitHub, they didn't. The cheat is still over there open to the public while valve shuts down attempts of TF2's community to expand the game.

      My thoughts exactly!
He kinda painted TF2S2 as the bad guy, basically saying that they are copy and pasting TF2 with little to no care put into it. But seamlessly porting a super duper buggy game with spaghetti code dating back to 2007, is really god damn hard! Especially when you consider that the developers of the project weren't getting paid for their countless hours of work.

Sniper should be limit 2 in casual to slow down bots and not to have many sniper bots infested.
