      Have you heard about object writing?

      @tm5brown520 Рік тому +2

      @@LucaAnamaria no what is it?

    • @LucaAnamaria
      @LucaAnamaria Рік тому +7

      @@tm5brown520 It's a creative writing technique offered by Pat Pattison who is a Lyrics / Poetry professor at Berkeley. It basically involves picking an object (which can be a literal object like a book or a candle, but also a person, time of day, location, etc) and then brainstorming associated sensory words for 5-10mins. It's supposed to promote creative freedom and generate vivid imagery to help you tell a story. If you do it every day as a practice, it can help to keep the creative juices flowing. So, if you pick "book", for example, you ask yourself: "What do I see / smell / touch / taste / hear / how does my body feel internally / how does my body feel in space in relation to this object?" You'd come up with stuff like: "soft leather-bound, musty smell, pages yellowing at the edges, scrawled words in ink, my heart races as I turn the pages, eyes darting left to right, I can feel the warmth of the candle next to my arm, its light dancing with the shadows on the walls, soft footsteps of other students, I bite my tongue and snap the book closed before somebody sees me", etc. Sometimes all the sensory language leads you to a universal concept, which turns into a song. Sometimes not. But in any case, it's a really fun exercise that jolts your imagination, lets you play with ideas, offers you some very cool imagery, and keeps the creative juices flowing. It won't help you finish songs, but it will help you start more of them!

    I'm working on finishing writing my debut album in the folk-world-jazz genre. I've written six songs I'm proud to include on it and I've got four more to go. It's very exciting because I'm just over halfway done and I've never been this close to having a complete body of work. In addition to habits to promote discipline and consistency, I'd suggest monitoring your energy levels to find out what thoughts or actions actually fuel your fire vs. which ones snuff it out. It's important to be disciplined, but if we don't figure out how to genuinely make ourselves FEEL pumped up and motivated, we run the risk of burnout. That said, you shouldn't wait to feel motivated to write. So for me, a hybrid approach of discipline + passion seems to be optimal.

    • @AnnieDang
      @AnnieDang  Рік тому +4

      Hey Luca! WOW that is so awesome! I'm so proud that you're working through such a big body of work and have gotten this far! I'm rooting for you and wishing you all the luck for the rest of the journey!
      And so true! Discipline needs to be balanced out with passion or a "Why" of some sort or else it leads to burnout. I find that whenever I feel burnout nowadays, I bring myself back to my "why" and remember why I'm doing what I'm doing in the first place! Monitoring energy is a great thing to do, too. As important as it is to take in all these productivity tips, at the end of the day, we have to figure out what works for us and learn how to balance it! :)

    • @LucaAnamaria
      @LucaAnamaria Рік тому +2

      @@tm5brown520 I'm definitely dedicated, but not so much disciplined. 😅 I run on passion most of the time and substitute with discipline when the passion is low. There were very many YEARS of no writing. I've been learning music for 10 years. It's only been in the last 3-5 years that I've seen meaningful progress with my writing. So don't be too hard on yourself! It takes time.

    I'm going through a creative block myself these days. It seems like I haven't made a drawing of my own in years, it's always for somebody else. I think age also makes it harder, especially if you decided to have a "normal life" with an 8 hour job and bills and dishes to wash, but most of the time I use the free time that remains in a very irresponsible way and after a while I regret not working when I should have, when I had the time and didn'use it wisely. But your videos are uplifting :)
    I hope I could just get started!

    Dang (ਡਾੰਗ, 鄭, 黨, 唐, 滕) is a Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean surname. It can be found in both Hindus and Sikhs of the Punjab region in the north-western India.
    Nah, I am going to guess Chinese-Vietnamese-Korean instead of Hindu-Sikh because she looks more East Asian / Southeast Asian than South Asian.
    And I am going to guess she's more Southern Chinese or Vietnamese rather than Korean.

    My project of this year is to create a turnstile which has the ability of performing temporal pincer. After making that machine I will invert myself and study Data science till the day when the Nexus event occurred. With my knowledge of data science I will make sure Shamir's profile never appears on your Spotify, making Ameer's first contact with you, just another possibility. I am afraid that creating this alternate universe, when i return back I might not have any idea of an "Annie Dang's" existence :(

    Something feels wrong when you say there's always going to be someone better since that's really subjective to me and maybe it's just me but I don't really like to think about it that way. It feels better to say that I can be just as good as those people even if we're different. Idk I feel like I've gotten more confident so when I see someone doing something good I don't think of it as "better than me" I just think of it as good and inspiring and that seems to work well for me. Sorry for such a random rant but it gave me the urge to want to say this
