I’m telling y’all make a pretend ep or album and just write a song everyday and pretend like ur a famous singer already and writing music will be so much easier and so much more fun or at least for me it is
i do this all the time, and it really helps. it also helps to memorize your song because you will remember having fun writing it and also because you're pretending to be famous.
Although songwriting might work I'd suggest poetry for that, it really helps me with expressing feelings and there's also no such thing as a bad poem. Even two words on a paper can be a poem.
I make up little songs in my head all the time without even meaning to and they are actually quite good but then I forget them like a minute later but if I sit down and try to write a song my brain just goes blank. but I love music so hopefully one day I'll be able to write songs :)

It's okay. There's no such thing such as trully "authentic" or "original" songs these days (I've heard it from one of musician nowadays). If we're only thinking become different with others, the music won't be created
I’m 13 years old and I’ve been writing songs since I was 8. I’ve always loved the art of music and lyrics. I’ve wanted to be a singer/songwriter for sooooo long! I’ve written over 20 songs, some about my life, some about made up point of views. Even though I’m really shy, and don’t really share my songs with anyone, I really hope my dream will come true someday. Idk if I’m comfortable with sharing one of my songs on here, but hopefully I’ll gain the courage I need soon. ❤️❤️

The words aren't a problem for me, finding a melody is. I always end up singing to the melody of a song that already exists and that isn't what I'm trying to do lmao
I’m the other way around, I’m good at creating new melodies but I don’t have lyrics and I’d offer to work together but I don’t do good with teamwork as I just say “whatever… I don’t care…” to someone’s great idea of music but what I really think is “It sounds good but… it’s not really what I wanna do and doesn’t match with the style of music I create…”

It may take time but I hope you'll find someone to work with. Creating melodies is no no for me. I've just started songwriting and hopefully I think I'll improve.
Never give up. Keep writing songs because it's going to fall together. Timing is everything..Speak from the heart and write the lyrics. Picture something and write it down. You have to paint your stories then write them and add melody.

for me, lyrics have always come easy to me, but i struggled a lot with the music/instrumental part of writing a song (mostly because I don't have the patience to learn to play an instrument..). I have a tip for you- get a piano or keyboard because on some pianos or keyboards for example you can hit a button that says “drums” and your piano well sound like drums.

I mean, you can always make songs that don't have vocals. I listen to some bands that make music, without vocals - like just instruments. But if you're bad at instruments then let's suffer together
I use type beats of my favorite artists or genres and just write lyrics to them. I mean- I can't sing out loud, but my head is enough. Idk if u knew they existed, so I just wanted to tell u 😀
i’m 11 years old and i come from a very much musical family. my dad is in a band, my mom and dad met at a concert, my older brother’s made about 20 songs, my little brother is already making some songs with the older, my older half-sister is also in a band, my older cousins are really intuned with music and basically just EVERYONE in my family. my brother and dad are mostly my, yknow, inspiration since they’re related to me the most. i’m super close with them and i’ve loved the concept of music since i was little. in fact, my dad and brother(5 years apart) have been blasting music in my household since i’ve been taken back home from the hospital when i was 2. my mom and dad are separating because of different reasons, but mainly because my dad kept going out for band rehearsals and “wouldn’t take care of us.” anyways, i have a lot going on in my world right now. even though i’m 11, i’m super aware of everything that’s been happening around me, ever since i was little. my brother’s taught me how to play the guitar, piano, drums, cello and bass. but, i don’t quite get music theory. i’m really really good in school, so when i got into wanting to learn instruments at the age of 9, i said “yknow, i could do this!” but uh, yeah no. i have no idea why but i swear i have the intentions, the ideas and everything for a song. this helped me do it, so thank you so so much. 💗😽🤘

This is an excellent guide. Songwriting is so daunting for me as I'm the "logical" "math" type of person and come from programming. Just letting my creativity loose without a structured system can be hard, but I'm learning!
I've seen a song writer using that as his strength. He calculates how good it's going to sound and all that and he was always getting high evaluation by the successful professional song writers. I saw it in a song writing competition program on Japanese TV. Maybe you could do that too!!🌟

At 1:30 she said “There’s no right or wrong way to write a song,” which no joke inspired me to write a hole rap verse 😂 There’s no right or wrong way to write a song man just play some notes on your favorite instrument, get into it, listen it might be straight garbage but at least now you’ve started. Make some chords, add a beat, get that bass, that’s the meat. Now repeat. Every time it’ll be better than the last. Take your time, don’t go fast, enjoy it man, it’s a blast!
Woah. I’m actually listening to bts songs trying to have a small spark of inspiration come. 😅 I love Jimin’s song Promise and I want to write a song along those lines but don’t know how to. DUDE! That’s literally the structure I use for most of my songs! I usually like to make the chorus exactly half the bpm of the verse (I wrote garage rock/ grunge stuff) and then I do a chaotic guitar solo followed by a chorus and then like four chords that weren’t in the rest randomly at the end. I also do the stereotypical “soft chorus for the intro” and then I click on the distortion and there’s the song!

Dude first just play a some random chords or any beat. Listen it for sometime and take a vibe... Then go write a song after writing a song you can cut some words or lines. Or you can increase words or lines... According to beat And think as easy you can relax get into the mood just do it... Be stubborn
I’m an 11 year old child, and I’ve been trying to write songs since I was 10. I’m very good at singing however making songs is difficult because my melody comes from my signature song One Day. i used to write songs when i was your age. i wrote so many, i had a book of them. in middle school i threw it away because it was “cringe”. i wish i could still find them lol. but i remember one song i wrote with a girl i was friends with. i’m 16 now and i remembered the whole song. it popped into my head on a plane a bit ago and i rewrote it. don’t give up your talent! it’s awesome.

I decided to write a song, it isn't based on my personal feelings though. It's based on how my two best friends feel, mainly at school, and what I'm seeing as I grow up. something that helped me when coming up with a chord progression is to take the story you want to tell through your song and write down a bunch of words to describe it. for example, is it a story that makes you feel inspired, nostalgic, and content with yourself? find chords that make you feel the same. idk but i feel it’s easier when you have simple descriptors right in front of you

Bruh honestly same! Seeing that these absolutely normal guys were able to write these awesome songs made me realize that I could as well (with time and practice obviously lol).
For me, I usually write the chorus first because it creates a sort of base for the rest of the song to form around. That's just what works best for me :D

When I was just a little girl I used to easily write lyrics and sing them in my head. I think I have made a ton but mostly forgot them because they're weren't recorded and forgotten. My problem is that I don't get the musical terms, I'm not good at singing and I can't play instruments. I've tried the piano but I didn't have time to continue my passion in it because I'm busy procrastinating and honing my skills in arts.

I know I’m a bit late but I’ve been writing lyrics for a good couple years and my biggest tips are; 1) it’s ok if you think it sounds similar to an artist you like, originality will come later. 2) keep your syllables similar, but every line doesn’t have to have the exact same number. This especially applies to faster parts of a song, pauses and breaks for emphasis on a lyric. 3) write from the heart, don’t worry about crazy deep metaphors and things that ‘only some understand’ just write how you feel and people will see that, and love that. 4) don’t worry about it being bad or cringe, it will be. It just will be for a while. 5) don’t stress yourself out over needing the perfect lyric right now! It’ll come at some random point and you’ll go ‘that’s perfect!’ And rush to your notes app 6) just have fun and remember to show emotion, especially in sadder songs.

Personally, I basically do this whole method backwards. I have no idea what the song will be about until quite a while after it's written. But like you said there's no wrong way to right a song so it's always educating to see how other people approach it. It's unlike any other art process really. No one does it the same. (Which also makes it so hard to teach!!)

Although I prefer a very different genre of music, this was such a helpful video! I’ve been writing (very bad) songs pretty much my whole life and I’ve always wanted to get better at it, especially as a classical musician by background.
I'm a singer-songwriter too, and let me just say what I know. You don't have to squeeze yourself for the melody. I come up with melodies at the most bizzare times, like when I'm bored. When I find something catchy, I just find the chords amd build on it. While writing lyrics take breaks - you don't have to do everything in an hour. Quality takes time. If you built most of the melody already but are stuck with one particular part where you just don't know what to do, try taking some other part of the song as sample and build off on the same tune. Like if there's some instrumental with no vocals, take that with vocals and put it as a bridge/final chorus. That's it from me!

i do this all the time, and it really helps. it also helps to memorize your song because you will remember having fun writing it and also because you're pretending to be famous.

Although songwriting might work I'd suggest poetry for that, it really helps me with expressing feelings and there's also no such thing as a bad poem. Even two words on a paper can be a poem.

i’m 11 years old and i come from a very much musical family. my dad is in a band, my mom and dad met at a concert, my older brother’s made about 20 songs, my little brother is already making some songs with the older, my older half-sister is also in a band, my older cousins are really intuned with music and basically just EVERYONE in my family. my brother and dad are mostly my, yknow, inspiration since they’re related to me the most. i’m super close with them and i’ve loved the concept of music since i was little. in fact, my dad and brother(5 years apart) have been blasting music in my household since i’ve been taken back home from the hospital when i was 2. my mom and dad are separating because of different reasons, but mainly because my dad kept going out for band rehearsals and “wouldn’t take care of us.” anyways, i have a lot going on in my world right now. even though i’m 11, i’m super aware of everything that’s been happening around me, ever since i was little. my brother’s taught me how to play the guitar, piano, drums, cello and bass. but, i don’t quite get music theory. i’m really really good in school, so when i got into wanting to learn instruments at the age of 9, i said “yknow, i could do this!” but uh, yeah no. i have no idea why but i swear i have the intentions, the ideas and everything for a song. this helped me do it, so thank you so so much. 💗😽🤘

For the structure, i usually do:

DUDE! That’s literally the structure I use for most of my songs! I usually like to make the chorus exactly half the bpm of the verse (I wrote garage rock/ grunge stuff) and then I do a chaotic guitar solo followed by a chorus and then like four chords that weren’t in the rest randomly at the end. I also do the stereotypical “soft chorus for the intro” and then I click on the distortion and there’s the song!

something that helped me when coming up with a chord progression is to take the story you want to tell through your song and write down a bunch of words to describe it. for example, is it a story that makes you feel inspired, nostalgic, and content with yourself? find chords that make you feel the same. idk but i feel it’s easier when you have simple descriptors right in front of you

When I was just a little girl I used to easily write lyrics and sing them in my head. I think I have made a ton but mostly forgot them because they're weren't recorded and forgotten. My problem is that I don't get the musical terms, I'm not good at singing and I can't play instruments. I've tried the piano but I didn't have time to continue my passion in it because I'm busy procrastinating and honing my skills in arts.

I've been writing songs for quite a long time (i'm a music student xd), and honestly, this is the first video i've found that actually helps people who are starting in songwriting and actually explain the process that most musicians follow while writing, great video, you earned a new sub ☺️👍
this has really helped me! I usually don't struggle with the lyrics but the whole process of playing a song is super daunting
I know I’m a bit late but I’ve been writing lyrics for a good couple years and my biggest tips are;
1) it’s ok if you think it sounds similar to an artist you like, originality will come later.
2) keep your syllables similar, but every line doesn’t have to have the exact same number. This especially applies to faster parts of a song, pauses and breaks for emphasis on a lyric.
3) write from the heart, don’t worry about crazy deep metaphors and things that ‘only some understand’ just write how you feel and people will see that, and love that.
4) don’t worry about it being bad or cringe, it will be. It just will be for a while.
5) don’t stress yourself out over needing the perfect lyric right now! It’ll come at some random point and you’ll go ‘that’s perfect!’ And rush to your notes app
6) just have fun and remember to show emotion, especially in sadder songs.

Personally, I basically do this whole method backwards. I have no idea what the song will be about until quite a while after it's written. But like you said there's no wrong way to right a song so it's always educating to see how other people approach it. It's unlike any other art process really. No one does it the same. (Which also makes it so hard to teach!!)

It's my very first time on her channel and even on this topic of writing song so I just unknowingly clicked on her video and seriously I'm impressed with her video, they way it is, the way it's so immersing and her natural charisma and humour and also whatever she did in the video was so nice and very wholesome kind of!😊
I love the tips and the advices you gave ..I've been writing for more than a year now and I can tell you the only way you get better at it is just to keep on writing everything you feel.Whether you are so hyped or whether you are so down ,trust me the words and melodies will just start exploding right out of nowhere.

Although I prefer a very different genre of music, this was such a helpful video! I’ve been writing (very bad) songs pretty much my whole life and I’ve always wanted to get better at it, especially as a classical musician by background.
I'm a singer-songwriter too, and let me just say what I know.
You don't have to squeeze yourself for the melody. I come up with melodies at the most bizzare times, like when I'm bored. When I find something catchy, I just find the chords amd build on it.
While writing lyrics take breaks - you don't have to do everything in an hour. Quality takes time.
If you built most of the melody already but are stuck with one particular part where you just don't know what to do, try taking some other part of the song as sample and build off on the same tune. Like if there's some instrumental with no vocals, take that with vocals and put it as a bridge/final chorus.
