I grew up listening to that accent as a kid, its the generation of Americans I love and respect the most. I so enjoyed that video, thank you :) in my 50s and just getting into leathercraft.
Me too, I’m also in my mid 50’s and just beginning. I’m hoping to make gifts for special people in my life and make some things for myself. But one never knows where and why the Lord is leading to leather crafting.
@@Vanndam41 I know the lord will bless your new hobby with much excitement and satisfaction. All the best....
Same here ☺️
Amen to everything you said!
Im a teenager and Its the same way, Ofcourse I grew up in the middle of nowhere around people who were very old, Along with my dads side of the family who had amazing longevity.
Man, this takes me back to the 70's! My grandfather and I would go to the Tandy Leather store in Pennsauken, NJ and we'd get all this stuff and make belts and other cool leather works. Now I want to do it again!
Beautiful memories
I started tooling leather as a teen, back over 50 years ago. Intended to never stop this awesome hobby, but life got in the way, and I junda focused on a career and raising a family. Now that I'm retired, it's time to dif out the tools and pick up that swivel knife again! Thought Id watch a few videos and catch up on what I've forgotten iver the past 40 yearrs. Used to visit Tandy in Oklahoma City, now I'm using the Tulsa store. The people are still as awesome as usual, I was kinda shocked at how they prices on everything has gone up, but what hasn't over 40 years , tight, lol?
I watched 4 other videos on tooling leather and learned less than nothing, what I had learned nearly 30 years ago kind of became fuzzy and unclear. After watching this video it’s now crystal clear. Thank you. You’re a true artist in the purest sense of the word.
You explained each stamp and tool and I’m confident that I can do a test piece well enough to move onto embossing my daughter’s mounted archery arrow quiver.
I agree. This man is very experienced in the art of tooling. Will subscribe to all his classes. Thumbs up to him. At the Tandy site, he describes on how to make a cell phone case. Very well done.
George..... It´s so darn wounderful to listen/see a older person perform a craft.... There is so much lost.... Im a marine engineer, young, and when "old" guy left, it was a black hole in knowlege.... Im grateful to rake part of your knowlege... (Eng. aint my fist language)
I was scrolling through Instagram and just discovered that this is something I could learn to do. I'm so excited. I'm definitely going to learn how to do this and get a new plain saddle for my horse that I can carve! Thank you for the informative video!
This was very informative and also made me miss my sweet grandpa. Thanks for the video!
That was my first decor video. Excellent! Made me smile a lot!!
I was just finishing up a sheath for a knife I made(you taught me how to saddle stitch as well) and I was wondering how to carve lol! It’s a sign, thanks for another great lesson!
Amazing how he brings the leather to life! Fantastic work. I love Tandy leather

Did a bit of leather toling back n Highschol. This is a good tutorial on how to do the basics of carving. his man is very knowledgeable about the process and I think I will be subscribing to all his classes.
I recently 'heard' about leather carving. This video perfectly explained it, and showed me a ton. Thanks so much!
I'm very excited to carve a design into my guitar strap and y'all have taught me so much in this video.
Thank you for the wonderful instructions. This was really helpful. Beautiful job. I learned a lot.

You make it look so easy and I want to try it myself!!
I was able to up cycle a leather upholstered couch that someone threw away on the side of a road down from where I live.
I'm thinking about making something for family using it and some veg tan leather I bought from eBay awhile back.
I'm Always interested in learning something New and after watching Your Tutorial, I'm definitely going to try to make something (after a lot of practice) for My Nephew Chuck first, then more family members!!
Thank You for Your Inspiration!!
Amazing what you can do when you know what you're doing.
Thanks for the lesson.
THANK YOU! For sharing the secret of your sharpener strop! Cardboard and compound. That’s ingenious!!
That was amazing
This video is a keeper for sure. Thank you.
Wow! This looks like fun!
Outstanding tutorial... 👏👏👏
Thank you so much
Thanks George!
One of my neighbors was a civil war reenactor and leather worker. After his passing his family just *gave* me his entire stock of leather, patterns and tools. I'm not sure where to start, but the Tandy Catalog was a hint that this video would be good. It is!
Beautiful! Thank you
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing and educating me, I learned an awful lot from you video: I look forward to more of your videos/lessons.
This is a great tutorial!
Loved this video. First time watching a video on this. I thought this was harder than what I've seen. I used to think that one cut into the leather to chisel the images.
Really Enjoyed Your Video , Thanks ! 🐯🤠
I love to watch your hands create!
love it and thank you very much i will absolutely try it.
I had all these tools but had no idea what to use them for! Thought they were decorative stamps. Thanks for the tutorial!

Good , Show !!!!
My upstairs neighbors are going to love my new hobby!
What did you use to sharpen your blade?
Can this tracing can be done with something like a nail punch?
Thank you sir .I have a knife sheath I'm going to work on .
What skin are you using? Thank you.
I took out my kit here and wanted to get started just messing around. One thing I've noticed is that when I tool the leather with any of the different tools, the impression left isn't nearly as dark or rich, or noticeable. I've tried hitting it a bit harder, a bit softer, but haven't had any success reproducing the effect. Might the leather have been wetted too much or too little in the casing process? Also of note is the mallet is a very light, wooden piece.
It might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyhow: Do these techniques work on vinyl as well???
Does this work with chrome tanned leather????
Would an xacto? Blade work for this instead of the other one?
went to tandy leather today to go pick up some things
Wow...
Crazy question...can leather shoes have carving added ( which might means stripping the color off? ) then after carving; I could have that portion of shoes re-colored.
No it’s against the law
I don't own any leather tools nor do ever plan on doing leatherwork but I just watched this video from beginning to end
Was watching this for the first time and I'm thinking how there is one of these down the street from where I live than I realized it's the same store
How much cost of full tool kit(all tools)& send me link for buy this kit
What kind of leather is this? The weight?
Carefully aged and stretched Biltong yields a pleasantly scented material suitable for every purpose with minimal wastage.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can this be done on a basketball or football? my team logo
if its leather it prob would work just that it might make it weeker
George, what a terrific, crystal clear introductory video to leather carving! This is so helpful to me.
I used to do simple leather work when I was a teenager. I ordered a guitar strap blank and supplies to work it from Tandy. Its nice to have these videos online as a refresher course because now in my 50's I need all the remembering help I can get. Thanks
I could watch this guy forever. He's amazing and very talented from what I've seen.
That was fun to watch, thank you. You are a good teacher.
I really like how this video doesn't assume you know anything and covers the aspects of the project. Sometimes, without meaning to, instructors skip steps without meaning to and this one doesn't. Thank You!
I'm willing to bet he teaches classes haha
The Bob Ross of leatherworks. I enjoy your work much sir, I hope to begin my work soon.
