It's a tanto a battle knife . It's gana want blood . I got the sam mai and it also got me. My brother and one of his friends that wanted to look at it. I only take it out when necessary.
I appreciate ya man! If you have any other knives around the house you need a sheath for, don't be a stranger. Just screencap this convo and I'll remember to throw you a discount on the next one. :)
And the navy seals carry the sog seal pup..... not like it matters wtf any soldiers are carrying anyway. More important would be what are you carrying to maintain your blades.
Serious stuff man. Long term issues. That being said, it has been incredibly helpful so far as well. I'd say just make sure you have an enclosure built with some type of air assist for quality. 👍
On the "I like it more now that it's cut me", I'm the exact same with Cold Steel's 1911 folder. I just touched the blade while closing it and sliced to bone. Factory edge. My wife freaked but I laughed and pointed out "it works". 😂
I got one for myself for this past Xmas. 32$ on Amazon. I love the stock sheath also. It came wonderfully spark and I'm using it for Everything as a BEATER AND UTILITY. LOVE IT
I purchased this knife in April last spring. I used the hell out of it the rest of the year. If performed perfectly. It is a great batoning knife. The spine is sharp and square for scraping fatwood and ferrocerium rods. The SK5 steel is surprisingly resilient and tough. I rarely have to sharpen it, as a matter of fact i don't recall having to resharpen it at all season except for maybe stroping. I did sharpen it recently getting it ready for the next season and again I was surprised that it required very minimal effort to get it razor sharp. But mostly it was still sharp to begin with.
@@5MinuteKnives 14 months later and I still love this knife. Moved to florida and have used it to cut palm fronds and open coconuts. This knife is still a spectacular deal and an awesome performer. I have since picked up a couple Fallkniven X series A and S, a Bark River 3V, and a bunch of Coldsteels, a master hunter 3V, a magnum Tanto 3V, and a SRK VG10, and a bunch others. With these choices I find my self coming back and picking up the recon tanto SK5. The Recon is just perfect in all aspects! The weight is just perfect, the length is perfect, the kraton is comfortable as all get out. Coldsteel kraton handles are some of the most comfortable I have ever held. I have just ordered another Recon Tanto in VG10 to test how much of an improvement it is. The SRK San Mai VG10 is a nice knife, but the SK5 Recon is far and away a superior outdoors knife!
I just bought one of these on Amazon. Been eyeing it for a while. I bookmarked your site probably gonna be interested in a sheath that can be attached to molle for my chest rig. Something you can do?
Right? It really makes me like the knife a lot more. (The one I replaced it with at the end is even better.) Also think aboutmy subscribestar thing. Not pushing it, but there's a $1 tier where I give away free custom sheaths all the time. No one's over there yet, so your odds are pretty good. 🍻
I bought the same tanto last year and just bought some belt loop snaps on Scamazon, put them on and am not impressed. I rigged it for scout carry, which is not the best way to carry I realized afterwards, for this knife anyway. But I love the looks of your pancake sheath for it. I will be contacting you shortly, as I really love the one that you made for my Esee CM6. I haven't been able to show it off yet, but will soon as I get situated with my new job and relocating. I just hope that you are still open in a few months. Great video as always 👍, thumbs up, as both of mine are in tact!
For former customers, I'll prolly always be open. :) It's an honer that so many of you are happy with my work. Means a lot bud. Just take your time. (I always have some nice premades for this knife laying aorund I can ship immediately. :)
I've tested that knife (in SK5 also) against some pretty thick cardboard boxes : I was stoked ...this thing actually outperformed significantly bigger blades (in some superior steel !!! - 52100 ... ) SK5 itself is not bad at all - actually is kind of 1085 - japanese made ... Probably that performance on slicing has a lot to do with that continous curve of the blade ... It basicaly outperformed (at least in that test) its bigger brothers : Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist and Drop Forged Bowie (the large one - 9.5 in blade ) ... Both of those Drop Forged have rather straight edges close to the tip where they begin to have that curved line ... Bottom line : this Recon Tanto probably is one of the best soldier knife on the market ... Pretty tough, very capable and quite affordable ...
the day i got my rat 1 folder ,, years ago,, i had been watching videos of it for days previously, guys pushing the thumb stud with a quick flick of the thumb and the blade flying open, well, dufus me, didn't take into account break in time for the blade to glide smoothly, so,, with knife in hand,, right handed, i applied pressure with thumb, and said something stupid like , wham, or bam,, ?? but i felt a sharp pain, dropped my knife to the floor and looked at my thumb, the blade had " froze up " just below a 90 degree angle, a dime sized piece of thumb print skin about an 8th thick was lying on the floor, blood dripping like crazy, i'm squeezing my thumb with my left hand, yelled for my wife to bring a paper towel quick,, she came in, of course she cringed a little, but she says,, ahem, those guys in those videos,, are probably laughing at you right now in some universe,,, that'll learn ya,, we put the thumb print piece of flesh back in place,, man,, nerve pain from hell, for about 2 weeks, the first 2 to 3 days were the worst, but i was a leftie for awhile, i had to massage the area to get the feeling back and to get the sensitivity to stop, at least i know it was well sharpened at the factory,, so,, my point,, i feel your pain brother,, all to well,,
why did you pull that esee knife out ?????? no !!!!!!! , :),,, that is my dream knife,,, my wife thinks i have issues :),, cool scales on it too, you a bad man :),,, now i'm going to be pining away all evening for 1,, i just ordered the esee 4hm yesterday too, ugh !!!!!
I had a CS recon Tanto before & had to sell it during hard times. Now I'm finding it on Amazon for 43 dollars and it's screaming buy me! Oh yeah, I've cut myself with knives a lot. Usually its a very small knife like the Rough Ryder Cub lockback and I'm doing something stupid like cutting plastic towards myself. I've got a nice V shaped scar on my left thumb to remind me what happens when you cut towards yourself with any size knife. If i would have done that with a recon Tanto, the thumb would have sliced off. Safety 3rd. 😅
As the saying goes, if a knife draws your blood, it owns you so it's yours forever. Lol. I had the SRK also but the handle just wasn't right for me. Nice knives though and worth the money. I've cut myself quite a few times modding knives, especially when hand sanding them, so I feel your pain.. I'm not even gonna get into the "ninja" friend thing... 🤣 He was something else....

The dark green sheath with dark red eyelets is totally sick in a good way. Keep up the good work.
It's already healing to be honest by thanks! Isn't that a sweet color scheme? Totally hooked on it myself. Appreciate ya!
US soldiers have been known to carry this knife in the sandbox.
Lol no
Yes. There are pics out there. I am not saying it’s an official knife or that many carry it but it has seen the battlefield.

I prefer the Recon over the Recon Tanto. I have a few tantos but I prefer a drop or spear point knife most of the time.
Makes total sense. Both are great designs.
Very nice knife +sheth 😉👍
